5-0 out of 5 stars The Adventures Continue
I am really enjoying the Left Behind: The Kids Live-Action audio series. Well-acted and every episode has captured my attention. As an adult, one of the reasons which drew me to the audio series is because LaHaye and Jenkins intertwines the Left Behind universe and its characters together, so if you are reading or listening to the audio series of Left Behind, I highly recommend listening to the Left Behind: The Kids for a little bit more in-depth coverage of recurring characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, exciting course! Well worth the money!
Father Keating eloquently re-expresses timeless truths in the light of modern ways of knowledge, with humor and great clarity. He talks sense, and isn't afraid to question established ideas. He isn't afraid to challengeus. He employs modern approaches including developmental psychology tore-present the wisdom of Christ in ways which resonate deeply with themodern mind. His clarity on a par with Anthony De Mello"s"Awareness", but he goes beyond theory to shows us how we canincreasingly apply spiritual truths through our life, prayer andmeditation. De Mello shunned techniques, which he regarded as programming.Easy for him to say, but we deluded ones need to start somewhere, and Fr.Keating shows us how to start. As long as we understand that "the mapis not the territory"I think there is benefit in having a map of thepath we are to progress. Father Keating offers us what seems to be a goodone. Christians of any denomination who are stuck, or who cannot make senseof mainstream Church teachings in our age will I think come away with therenewed enthusiasm born of seeing things from a whole new angle.FatherKeating shows us that the genuine teachings of Christ have great meaningand power. They have undiminished validity in our age. But our world-view,our whole paradigm today is different from that of 2000 years ago. Metaphors which convinced people fairly easily then are often not nearly sopersuasive to our more questioning minds today. Some of the teachingsneed to be re-expressed in the light of modern ways of knowledge in orderfor us to be able to fully appreciate and participate in their validitytoday. Father Keating does this with startling clartiy. Others who areinterested in meditation and spirituality will no doubt be surprised todiscover what Father Keating has to teach. There is a commonality betweengenuine contemplative or mystical approaches to the ultimate which comesacross very strongly here. Jesus said to the (significantly, as yetunconverted) Pharisees "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you".(Luke 17) To me, this is one of the most significant passages in the Bible, and yet most appear to ignore it. Why don't we experience the Kingdom?Father Keating teaches us about our false self, and gives us techniques tostart to overcome its false programs for happiness, and turn ourselvestowards genuine spiritual values, the road to real happiness. It says inthe Bible that we must be born again. I believe this, yet many claim tohave had this experience, and some of them do not show the exemplarybehavior one would hope to see from such a person. I think Fr.Keating castssome light on why this is often so. Anthony De Mello tells a story of a manwho went to a village and showed them how to make fire. So for a time, everyone participated in this great miracle, and gained warmth and theother benefits of fire. But after the man was gone, the people made atemple to that man, and enshrined the fire making instruments, told greattales of the wonder of fire, perhaps had heated theological arguments overthe merits of different firemaking methods... But there was no more fire..It appears that people like the anonymous medieval monk who wrote "TheCloud of Unknowing" had developed the "technology ofenlightenment" which allowed humans to participate in the mystery ofGod, rather than just waiting around for posthumous salvation. I had longsuspected that Christian Mysticism offers "technology ofenlightenment" akin to Buddhist practices, butfound Christian Mysticwritings impenetrable compared to the clarity of modern Buddhist authors.Fr. Keating is however as clear as any Buddhist teacher, and amplydemonstrates that the Christian faith offers us a complete path tospiritual growth, not just a posthumous ticket to Heaven. This is the kindof course you'll want to listen to many times. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well Done
Pennington performs a valuable service to anyone who seeks to learn Hebrew on their own.The vocabulary includes the most common Hebrew words so that the learner will have the maximum benefit of memorization. Each is clearly pronounced enabling the student to recognize similar sounding words, which is important since much Hebrew Scripture relies on word plays and punning. It is a great resource.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hebrew for the Ears
These two CD's serve as another helpful addition to Zondervan's ever growing original languages library.Pennington again is the "author" who lends his voice to the reading of the Hebrew words and their definitions. It basically follows the same format as his New Testament Greek Vocabulary.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Particularly A Carlin Fan But Loved The Book!
I am not any huge George Carlin fan but I stumbled upon the book so decided to buy it and read it.The title "When will jesus Bring The Pork Chops?" caught my eye because it was a little different and sacreligious.Although the book has very little to do with this title it is very amusing. Its not a biography, you won't learn much from it and it has little continuety, it is just observational humor at its finest. Some of the things Carlin writes about you just have to stop and wonder how he came up with it and why he was even thinking about it.I didnt take offense to anything in this book (even those things targeted at my religion, profession etc.)This is not a book to be taken seriously, just sit back, relax and enjoy this quick read.

1-0 out of 5 stars mrvision
This is the 1st and last book by George Carlin that I'll ever read. What amazes me is that he found a publisher for this junk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Outrageous (3.7 *s)
There is so much bloat, hypocrisy, obnoxiousness, stupidity, arrogance, deceit, and nonsense in American society that it is easy pickings for a comedian of George Carlin's inclinations and perceptiveness. Of course religion, a bizarre belief system retained from the Dark Ages, is in for a flood of verbal dousing from Carlin. While the devout may find that appalling, there are crucial aspects of society that are more difficult to capture in humor - like subtle and endemic class warfare.

I am primarily an aural learner.Listening to this book on CD was a delight. The last two cd's were phenomenal.I had read them but listening to them was like hearing them for the first time.
5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical
I've never written a review before; but when I saw that nobody else had commented on this audio book (the four cd set), I wanted to enter an emphatic endorsement of it.I have read many books on psychology, religion and emotions. This book integrates all of them.I was originally interested the influence of meditation on controlling stress and negative emotions. That information is here and it is very compelling.(Consequently, I have also ordered many meditation and guided imagery tapes as well). But there is so much more in this book... so much interesting information, it's hard to even know where to start.I will try to give a couple of examples.5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing!
I definitely must concur with the first reviewer---Marquis Laughlin delivers the single finest New Testament narration I have ever beheld!Everything about it is simply splendid....NO, MARVELOUS.Why the 5-star review?
5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST AUDIO BIBLE EVER!
I say without any reservation or exaggeration that this Dramatic Narration of the Complete ESV New Testament by MARQUIS LAUGHLIN is the best audio Bible ever. I have diligently listened to them all. The English Standard Version is a beautiful translation that is made even more attractive by the soulful voice of MARQUIS LAUGHLIN. His passionte, powerful delivery of God's Holy Word is stunning!
4-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up for Diction... Clarity...but lost points on packaging!
Narration is clear, well paced, not overbearing or rushed. Some of the other rival recordings have passages/verses where the narrator rushes through for unknown reasons. (Note: This is only the New Covenant reading and does not include the Old Covenant books.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Soulful and Powerful talk
Ramana Maharshi one of the greatest spiritual teachers of last century, when asked about the number of spirtual teachers teaching various paths, Whom should one take for one's Guru (teacher)? He said to choose the one where you find you get shanti (Peace). Well Eckhart Tolle is the one that brings me the greatest Peace. Eckhart comes across as a gentle humble man with great insight and an extraordinary skill in bringing profound wisdom in an easy to digest format.
1-0 out of 5 stars truly a test to keep you in the present moment
If I was actually on this retreat, I suspect I would have daydreamed my way through most of his lectures, and ultimately the retreat would have been a wonderful opportunity to watch my ego as it said, 'Boring, get to the point,' or 'He's babbling again. God help me.' Why do I suspect this? Because it's exactly what I did while listening to the recording. All sorts of egoic garbage came up, and yes, that's something I do need to observe, but honestly, if his book had been this unfocused and tedious, it would have never been a bestseller. Not even close.
1-0 out of 5 stars Contrived and insipid
Let me say right away that I found "Realizing the Power of Now" much less inspiring than "Even the Sun Will Die" by the same author. And it is definitely not the complete programme of lectures of a week-long retreat since many concepts handled by Tolle in the course of his speeches have never been explained before.

A lifelong pursuit of knowing God should embody the Christian's existence. According to eminent theologian J.I. Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Insipid spirituality
This book was given to me by a fellow evangelical when I was a member of the student union some time ago. While reasonably well-written, I deeply disagree with the fundamentalist presuppositions of Packer (he was part of the group of theologians who put forward the fundamentalist manifesto which included inerrancy of the Bible in all matters including scientific theory) and I don't find his vision of God inspiring or well thought out.He engages well with the bible but less so with Christian philosophy and tradition, something Alister McGrath seems to do much better in my view.
5-0 out of 5 stars Knowing God by J. I. Packer
Our small group at church is reading and discussing the book.We are older adults whose ages range from mid-fiftes to early seventys.None of us would call ourselves "intellectuals" and reading the book for some has been a challenge because of the depth of the subject matter that Dr. Packer addresses.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not Enough On Hell
There is not enough teaching on Hell. How can you talk about knowing God with out full-blown explanation on the nature of eternal damnation and hell. It's impossible.J. I. Packer fails in a great way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most gripping books I have ever read!
I have read this book twice now and I have to say, I will never forget it. It is one of the most captivating and utterly consuming books I have ever read. I could barely put this book down and when I did I was forced to ask myself challenging and ultimately life changing questions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
I liked the allegory in the book and many of the statements made are worth pondering. I enjoyed the spiritual warfare described. It was very enlightening. This book challenges the reader to have an eternal, not temporal perspective.
5-0 out of 5 stars Might change your life
Though this book imitates C.S. Lewis (Unashamedly so, the author admits it, all of his books pay homage to Lewis.)it is still an excellent read.If you have read "Heaven," Money, Possessoins, and Eternity," you will notice how he ties those books into this novel.Though this novel is fiction, he took what is in the bible and made a story out of it.The book nature of this book is factual. It not only gets you excited about Heaven, but also serving God here on earth."Lord Foulgrin's Letters" opens your eyes to the devils schemes, "Edge of Eternity" takes you a step a further in using your discernment for good and evil to best serve the Lord.Read, enjoy, and learn! ... False Memory by Dean Koontz is a study of terror...it delves into the deepest part of an individual's sub-conscious and the complexities inherent.
5-0 out of 5 stars Raymond Shaw
A fan of Koontz since I read Dragon Tears back in 1993, I would often allow my mom to check out audio versions of his other books for me to read from the library. I have not, as yet, encountered a Koontz book that I didn't like. Even the Taking, which I can admit wasn't necessarily one of Koontz's best works, is one that, when finances permit, I will probably add to my listening library. However, I have to say that one of his best works was probably False Memory.

Editorial Review

Why is somebody shooting Walter Clive's horses at Three Fillies Stables in Lamarr, Georgia? That's what toothy, patrician Walter wants the droll, hulking Boston detective Spenser to find out. Walter worries that his racetrack phenomenon Hugger Mugger, worth millions, is next. So Spenser goes south to a place where "the heat felt like it could be cut into squares and used to build a wall," as he puts it in the crisp Chandleresque lingo that made him famous in dozens of novels.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Comedy and light drama, not mystery
I've now tried to read several of Parker's "Spenser" novels and have to admit they are lost on me. The mysteries are trivial, and the characters one-dimensional. Plot development is meagre and sadly predictable. What makes them go along so quickly is the finger-snapping, fast-quipping humor of Spenser, Hawk, Susan and others, which makes me think Parker is writing something more like the TV show "Friends" than a proper Hammet, Christie or Conan Doyle mystery. I probably would recommend this to anyone who likes light reading to pass the time, but not to a diehard reader.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Entry
This was a good entry into the Spenser series. It introduced a few new characters, along with the old.No Hawk though, boo hoo!Parker seems to have a problem with the female characters in the story. If she is despicable, he will save her despite himself. If he finds her sexually attractive, she must be innocent of any wrong doing.I can't help but wonder if that is Parker's age showing in this type of stereotyping.Still a pretty good book.Lot's of horse stuff in it!

2-0 out of 5 stars HUGGER MUGGER Mugs Itself
I have always look forward to reading Robert Parker's Spenser Novels and was excited to get this one in the mail. Usually I have his books read in a few hours. This novel of Parker's was the exception.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Joy of Educational Remediation
This is one of the books I wished someone would write. My knowledge of science past and present was wanting and yet there wasn't a single book written for (and by) someone in the same boat.Bill Bryson has written such a book and brillantly over-achieved in the process. In the spirit of full disclosure, I like nearly everything Mr. Bryson has written. He can be pedantic and peevish when describing the less than admirable characters and circumstances he encounters but he's always very funny.Having said that, this physically ponderous tome made me wonder whether he could sustain his humor while at the same time educating the reader over all those hundreds of pages.Miraculously, his choice of anecdotes and pacing is spot on.It is extremely readable and there are wonderful factoids and "ah ha" moments on nearly every page.Life is short and this book is not but it's absolutely worth the trade-off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and engaging history of modern science
Well written and fun to read.Bill Brysons style really creates a nice true story, complete with the quirks and oddities of the charecters depicted.Highly recomended if you are interested in the history of science, or if you just enjoy a fun and educational read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read for the Basics
This is a good book. And, like all Bill Bryson's work, it is wonderfully written with such a sense of humor! Bryson is very good at finding facts as well as funny historical anecdotes and idiosyncrasies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to comprehension of bin Laden
This is the third book I've read on terrorism and was the best by far. Not only does it take the reader through the important points of bin Laden's life and the historical events that surround them, but the author also analyzes the larger context within world politics. I particularly enjoyed the analysis of the strategic importance of Stinger missiles in the past and the future.
1-0 out of 5 stars Know your facts before reading this book
Warning, before reading this book make sure you are well schooled in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, US involvement with Somalia, the Persian Gulf War, and Islam. The more you know about these subjects the more you will realize that Bergen interjects his political opinions throughout the book with side comments; by selectively adding some facts and leaving out others; and by the clever arrangements of facts.Bergen is biased against the US and eerily; the net affect is some sort of weird admiration for OBL.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Was Good....But Bin Laden's Mistress
This book had a lot of technical stuff, but I still really enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Kosher/Mediterranean combination
Ok, I was kind of fat.Not fat, like that those people whose behinds they show on the news when doing stories on obesity in America, but I was in the process of going from thick, to fat."What Would Jesus Eat?" reversed that trend. What I like best about Dr. Colbert's book is that it provides information on how to achieve a real lifestyle change, not some sort of fad diet. Also, kudos to Dr. C for helping change my life while heaping praise on the Good Lord.
1-0 out of 5 stars Jesus and Me
Despite what T. Smith (another reviewer) states, Jesus was under no vegetarian obligation.God has made multiple covenants with his followers, and in each covenant the previous one was replaced. Thus post-Noah followers could eat meat, and post-Jesus followers had no obligation to be kosher.Which brings me to my main point: why should one feel any significance in eating what Jesus ate?He was still obligated to follow the kosher rules of Deuteronomy, while modern day Christians are not.If the book is kosher, it need not be, and if it isn't, it can't possibly contain what Jesus ate.Jesus was kosher.Basically, this is a pretty stupid premise for a book.Eat what you want - God won't care.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good But Incomplete.
If this book gets Christians to eat better, more power to Dr. Colbert, although I'm not totally sold on his premise.
