4-0 out of 5 stars Revived the Sword of Truth Series
For Goodkind fans thinking about giving up on the seies, this book should bring some of you back.
3-0 out of 5 stars A small step in the right direction
I promised myself I would not buy any of Goodkind's books, and I even hinted at quitting the whole series after reading Naked Empire.Alas, I have accomplished only the first of my two goals, because I keep telling myself that I need to see the Sword of Truth laid to its final resting place. My friend gave me Chainfire after she finished it, and I must say that the book is better than Naked Empire, but considering the ridiculous and highly repetitive propaganda combined with some of the most inhuman characters ever created (and I don't mean Jagang or Nicholas) almost anything could be better than Naked Empire.Chainfire seems to be a conscious effort from Goodkind to go back to some of his earlier Fantasy themes, such as the Boxes of Orden, the return of the "lost" Sisters of the Dark, and even a revisiting of Shota, by far my favorite character in the series, because unlike the usual suspects her motives are unknown and her actions actually surprise me.Also, splitting up Richard and Kahlan for the whole 667 pages was a good move. Think about it, the book would have been at least a couple hundred pages longer if Goodkind started describing how lovely Kahlan looked at dawn, how striking she looked and noon and how misty she seemed in the evening. In Chainfire, we only had to read about how righteous, strong, just, honest and life-loving Richard is over and over and over again, until I am almost willing to do the "devotion to lord Rahl" if only it would make Goodkind stop writing about Richard's infallibility, and give him some human features and character flaws. However, I kept reading, desperately wanting to believe that something surprising had happened to Kahlan, and maybe, just maybe, a real tragedy would befall the "perfect couple." For bringing back some great fantasy themes and for keeping my attention for the better part of the book, I must give Goodkind some credit, but for continually revisiting themes such anti-religion and anti-collectivism which were fervently introduced some 5000 pages ago in Blood of the Fold, I will refrain from buying Phantom. After all, having been disillusioned before, I am not in a rush to see just how effortlessly Richard will solve the problem of the beast, or how defiantly Kahlan will crush her kidnappers...but for now, at the end of Chainfire, anything is possible, and Goodkind can still surprise me, or so I hope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great start for the end.
Terry Goodkind begins this final trilogy by setting up the end.He makes us wonder if what we know to be true is actually true.He uses Wizard's First Rule to make us frightened that Kahlan really does not exist. The suspense has been killing me and trust me that this book is worth the read. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars He not only read it, he reads it aloud!
The Bible is probably one of the most famous sci-fi novels of all time. It's probably 150-200 years old and peolple (people) still freak over it like they did when MASH had that last episode. There's all kinds of fan clubs and everything even though it's all old.(Talking about the Bible still.)
5-0 out of 5 stars James Earl Jones Voice is Key
This is an excellent way to listen to scripture especially while driving. Fast delivery. Thanks.

1-0 out of 5 stars James Earl Jones should stick with Darth Vader.
I was excited to get this CD set, since I know James Earl Jones has a great set of pipes, and I have listened so much to Alexander Scourby's reading of the Bible that I was ready for a new reading.I was disappointed the first time I listened.Jones does not use inflection while he reads; the result is that the words sound lifeless. As a Christian believer, that abhors me.

4-0 out of 5 stars what is a hero?
This novel is about David Fitzgerald, an above average teacher at New York's Coney Island High School. He is teaching his student's about character's in literature and what being a hero, or being tested is. David becomes a hero and then is tested by becoming a pariah. The media put's him on a pedestal and than cut's the pedestal down in a matter of hour's.
4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Audiobook Fare...
There was a lot more to this tape than it seemed at first "reading."At first, I found myself a little wary of a terrorist plot, given how the very subject is super-charged with anxiety. The plot, however, was more about a young man caught in very conflicting societies and belief systems, a teacher who wants to be better than he believes he is, and a sister's love of her brother making it near impossible to do the right things.2-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete
Having read this book post-9/11, I found some of the references to Afganistan and the mindset of the bomber and his comrades very interesting. However, I was disappointed that many of the characters were described so vividly but then they disappear and never are mentioned again. So what was the point?I gave this book to my mother-in-law.I told her that I didn't want it back. It's not a "keeper" and I don't recommend purchasing it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book.
I think that a walk to remember was one of the best books ever. I liked the book a lot better then the story, yes the whole plot for both were practically the same, but the ending was different. I liked the ending better in the book, rather the movie; I believe there was more depth to it. It was a very sad book, but I think it was a happy ending in a special kind of way. I believe all sad stories have a happy ending, even if it is sad and depressing, but it eventually turns out happy later on. This book really touched me, because in school most people don't treat people the way they want to be treated, but in the end when you actually get to know that person, and you listen to them, then you can get to see that they are actually human, and that they have feelings, and everything a normal person has.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
This author is terrific, and the book was very enjoyable.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insperational
I thought this book opened a lot of eyes, especially mine. It gave me the surprise that no matter what comes along, and how happy or sad you are, things happen for a certain reason. The book inspired me that each day we should live life like there's no tomorrow, because you don't know what tomorrow brings. I've learned to appreciate and be thankful for what/who I have because sometimes we tend to take things for granted. I've read this book more than once because it's one of the books I can actually say i've enjoyed. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Whole Bible!
The description for this item is a bit deceptive. It IS NOT the whole Bible, it is only the NAB version of the New Testament.I was a bit disappointed as I already have the New Testament on audio.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm really enjoying this narration!
This is a wonderful narration of the New Testament.I listen to it in my car on the way to and from work, and I really look forward to hearing it.The narrator is not unctious or overbearing, but very expressive and interesting, and extremely easy to understand. And of course, you can't gowrong with the material! The numbering of each Bible chaper is noted, soit would be possible to follow along reading your own Bible.I just wishthe St. Joseph people would come out with a narration of The Old Testament! This is well worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Needed pictures
This was a great book for a child who knows how to read. It mirrors the adult bible. We were looking for a bible story book for our 3yr old grand-daughter that we could read to her and discuss the actions in the pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Portable - the size of a paperback novel.
That's what I like best about this Bible. You can read it easily - it's not too big and heavy, the pages aren't too thin. Plus the cover is very cute and makes it look just like a regular book. NIV means it's been translated into easy-to-understand English. The Book of Revelation is especially easier to read than in other translations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good. Helpful.
It's hard for me to understand the extreme reactions to this book. You don't have to agree with everything a book says to get at least some good out of it. I found it to be helpful. It did a good job of making me think about life. Are we just specks floating about on the wind, or are we indeed here for a purpose. The book doesn't delve into theological tedium, thankfully. Mostly, it's just practical stuff. I tell everyone to read a book called The Strongest Defense of Christianity after this one. The Strongest Defense of Christianity seems to be the book of our time in its field. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Audio Bible
There are a few minor volume glitches in what I have listened to so far, but overall the quality is great. The one strange thing is that some chapters are split between two cd's, so continuity is lost in listening to it. Copying it to an ipod or MP3 player allows you to get the continuity back.

4-0 out of 5 stars What an adventure!
I liked this book a lot because it was a real adventure and it was very exciting. I kept reading because I kept asking myself what would happen next. It deffinately kept me interested until the end...except when it got to the end I was quite disapointed. The ending just left me hanging. Is there a sequel to this book? I wish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Koontz entertaining yarn.
I happened to read Seize The night first. I was still pulled in to this first book in the series. The charcaters are very likable and the book left me wanting to know even more about them. Dean Koontz is one of the best writers of our time.

4-0 out of 5 stars love it
I love reading amazon reviews and it's astonishing how especially in Koontz' case reviews seem to vary between 5 and 1 star reviews all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most intense volume of AIO!!!
An old nemesis, a diabolical plot and a battle between the forces of good and evil - in Odyssey?! An unprecedented wave of criminal activity has broken over the town, and its citizens are stunned. Thefts, broken windows, graffiti...who on earth is behind this outbreak of Lawlessness?
5-0 out of 5 stars Darkness Before Dawn
this is the best A.I.O set ever. this set is very deep and makes for good discussion in summary: there is an out break of vandalism in odyssey. everyone thinks the bones of wrath are behind it. the church is hit. whits end is hit. jack has more weird dreames. jason gets an inspector to investigate the under- ground railroad tunnel under whits end. What he gets is the wicked Philip Glossman. Glossman has a scandal to have a recal election to kick tom out of office. we learn that Dr. Blackgaard is behind it. in " the return" dr. Blackgaard returns to odyssey to announce his candidacy for the election. Richard maxwell returns to odyssey to stop Blackgaard. maxwell finds out about the Dr's true plan: BLOW UP WHITS END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific - and it has depth
Those who have experienced the conclusion of the "Novacom Saga" recently have heard Adventures in Odyssey at it's best, but if absolute pure suspence is what you want, then I recommend this series. It has been building for a long time, every so often Dr. Regis Blackgaard would appear on the horizon, dark and sinister, first in Odyssey with his own "amusement house" for kids (and a nefarious effort to steal a top secret computer program from Mr. Whittaker-thwarted by Richard Maxwell who makes another appearance in this album)and then in Chicago where he actually kidnapped Connie, and finally in "A Name Not a Number" when he returned to Odyssey. 3-0 out of 5 stars Ilyanla Live!: Self Value, Self worth & Self Love
I enjoy watching Iyanla on TV, and I have read a couple of her books, this was the first time I purchased one of her tapes and was very disappointed. The sound quality is poor.I found myself turning the volume up and then down, and then at times I couldn't hear anything at all.It started out with singing, which I guess is alright if that is what you had expected, but I didn't see the connection in the overly long singing introduction to the tape subject. She had a few good points that she brought out, and made one think. There were maybe 20 min. of interesting subject matter to listen to: I would not recommend this particular tape.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I am a huge Iyanla fan, but even she has a bad day. This tape was a disappointment, expecially after being fired up with the "Faith" tape. The quality of the sound was not good, her singers were not on their game and the message seemed to come in the last 5 minutes of the tape. You found Iyanla rambling on and on mostly.I will still try the other cassettes but this one, you can pass on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remember to Love Your Feet
Iyanla takes us on a journey of the past and present on this cd.You willfind yourself in Rhonda ( the story she is telling throughout the lesson). You will step outside of your inner being and take a hard look within.Youwill come to know something that you have learned for years but never paidthat much attention to - "that you are made in the image of God." 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting introduction to the Dalai Lama's thoughts and beliefs
For anyone seeking a simple, introductory look into the fundamental beliefs and principles of the Dalai Lama, "The Art of Happiness" would be a great place to start. The book, authored by Howard C Cutler, MD, consists of excerpts and commentary from a series of documented conversations held between himself and the Dalai Lama.
5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best self help book
everytime when I struggle with some emotional problem, this book always helps me to feel better and resolves my problem no matter which page I flip to.How amazing? It is a must-have book!

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting debate
A bit of a tough read, but worthwhile all the same! It takes the Dalai Lama's views and mixes them with explanations from an American psychiatrist (East meets West). The result is a useful tool kit for creating more happiness in your life, but beware, it requires some deep thought - and some very active mental changes in your normal patterns of behaviour. Happiness, it seems, requires a great deal of mental discipline! But remember, its the end purpose we are working towards, not the short term pleasure...so put those chocolates away, and read the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars The return of John Avery Whittaker!
When John Avery Whittaker returns from a lengthy stay in the Middle East, the entire town of Odyssey turns out for a joyous homecoming celebration complete with fanfare and fireworks. But for Jack, Whit's arrival means an uneasy reunion-and a tough decision about the future. Then, the phrase "Fools rush in" takes on a new significance for Eugene when he neglects to seek God's direction in his relationhip with Katrina.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unbiblical and bad writing make for one star
This book is so flawed in every which way, it is hard to know where to begin. First of all, we are living in the end times, and when Jesus comes, that's all she wrote, folks. There's no seven years, no Christians being zapped up, etc. This is our Second Chance on Earth. No tribulation. This book takes figurative visions and tries to apply it literally, and does it poorly. Reading this book made me think that if this was true, then what's the point of trying to be a Christian. Why not just live your life the way you want to, and then when people zap out of thin air, change your life. It's ridiculous and sends the wrong message. Plus, the writing is for second graders with no redeeming characteristics to it. But I really don't think the author's care at this point (seeing how many millions they've made printing lies). My recommendation is to read the bible instead of this series; then you'll get truth and the bible is probably shorter (and much better writing). Man, not even Kirk Cameron could save this train wreck.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Least Favorite in the Series... Slow
I like Lahaye's bookbut I found Apollyon to be a plodding, slow rehash of earlier works... At least the first 3/4's were. Lessee Ben Judah preaches, Rayford acts holier-than-thou, various non-essential characters are killed, Chloe speed-dials buck, and Buck does his Indiana Jones routine. The Trib force stops and tries to convert every Tom, Dick, and Hattie they meet and have instant gratification by seeing the 'sign' appear on their newly converted forheads. Bingo! You've just won a believer!
4-0 out of 5 stars Destruction and pain are the formula for LB #5: Apollyon.
What a mixed bag this book was. it was typical Left Behind fare: 400 pages of theorizing, agonizing, and evil antichrist mischief in the face of God's chosen people; but still, things are slow in the LB universe at this point, so while it is entertaining, nothing really of note happens in this book. Nothing concrete, anyway. This is the book, though, where a LOT of things get rolling, though.

Editorial Review

Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas encounters one of her mostdifficult cases in this latest offering from J. D. Robb, alter ego of bestselling author Nora Roberts. With thevery first victim, Eve realizes that the killer stalkingthe streets of New York City isn't a run-of-the-millserial murderer. The copycat executions are imitating themethods and victim choices of an ominous list of notorious serial killers, beginning with Jack the Ripper. And when the killer leaves a distinctive note at the crime scene, it's clear that he's targeting Eve personally--a fact that worries Roarke, Eve's shrewd husband. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Imitation in Death by J D Robb
A killer is on the loose. The killer chooses a famous serial killer and imitates that killer each time he kills. It is up to Eve to find the killer before he kills again. The plot goes through the crime scenes and intertwines Eve's personal life with her job.Eve is all cop, but she has problems and a past that she will not let get in her way of finding justice for her victims.I enjoy her friends and co-workers as well as the infamous Rouke. It was a most enjoyable book and look forward to reading the next in the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I know the title for the review sounds kind of lame, but I'll explain. Although the book is good, it's not one of the best. Sure, it has everything an In Death book should have, but I found myself having a hard time getting through it and finishing it. And I always finish reading books, no matter how bad. (Not that it's bad.) This book shouldn't be a meter of all the books.
4-0 out of 5 stars "An excellent imitation"
A man dressed in fancy clothes, including a hat and a cap, shows up in one of the shady neighborhoods in New York in the year 2059, approaches a licensed companion and takes her to an alley to do his business. But his business is not what she is used to dealing with, instead she gets killed quickly and efficiently, and after that the man goes to work on her, taking one of her organs as a souvenir. He leaves an envelope behind addressed to Lieutenant Eve Dallas in which he acknowledges her ability to solve murders and challenges her to go head on with him. The note is signed Jack...can you guess where this is going?

1-0 out of 5 stars What a load
I heard this book while in a friend's car, and boy, what a bunch of bogus fear-mongering.Stupid, silly supersticion.Spare yourself the waste of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Left Behind
I listen to a lot of recorded books.Generally, I prefer fiction in the mystery, murder, military, and suspense genres.I was completely caught off-guard when I received, as a present, book one of the "Left Behind" series. After a bit of a slow start, I was so hooked on the story that I listened to the entire three tapes nearly straight through.Only very special books keep me glued to my tape player like that.Read more

Editorial Review

Lucas Davenport's boss is about to lose her job as chief of police, hisfiancée is distracted with wedding plans, and his house-remodeling project is ata standstill. So when the FBI and DEA draft the Minneapolis cop to head off hitwoman Clara Rinker's bloody murder spree, he's glad to oblige. The lady killerand the killer lady have tangled before in Sandford's Prey series, and theirpersonal history seasons this fast-paced story of mayhem, murder, and revenge. After Rinker barely survives an assassination attempt that destroys her unbornbaby and kills her lover, the son of a Mexican drug lord, she sets out todestroy the mobsters who ordered the hit, a journey that brings her intoDavenport's sights again and also puts him back in action alongside a womanagent with whom he was once involved. But it's the grudging respect and evenaffection Sandford hints at between Rinker and Lucas that takes this crisp, confident thriller beyond the limitations of the genre and makes the charactersflesh-and-blood human beings. A standout in a terrific series! Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The new master of the crime novel
Lucas Davenport is all grown up, with a big house and a wife. However, he's no less lethal on the street. Read one Prey novel, you'll want to read them all. Sandford does it flawlessly.
