Although this is a truly wonderful production, the bible can hardly be less,I find the reader's "high" English, and somewhat Shakespearean pronunciation disquieting.Frequently it is very difficult to recognize the proper names and locations that I have become accustomed to hearing otherwise, as spoken by the reader. The concept is wonderful, but too often I am caught up in the speach, pulled away from listen to the words, which is what I really want to do.I would not purchase another of this version for myself or a gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Audio Bible
We purchased our first audio Bible about 2 years ago. Since then, it has become an asset to the whole family. I listen to it as I am retiring for the night and have found that a person still can learn while they sleep! My husband, being an OTR Driver, rarely has enough down time to spend it reading so the CD's are constantly playing for him while he is going down the road. He later can go back and read the Bible and have a better understanding of what he reads. Our 14 year old daughter loves being able to listen to these CD's and reading along with them in her Bible. She too is learning to pronounce the more difficult names that once hampered her in reading the Bible at all. Now, we all 3 have a better understanding of what the Bible is saying and our lives have changed dramatically over the last few months. God has blessed us with this knowledge within the pages of the Bible and now the audio Bible makes it all more personal for us. With having an understanding of what we are reading, we are able to worship with more confidence. We would recommend this set to anyone who wants to get more from their time spent reading the Bible. It is truly worth the price!! We have just ordered our second set and plan to order another soon so we all have our own without having to share since we never know what part of the Bible we may be led to read and it is difficult to read certain books/chapters if they are shared this way.Make this a part of your daily life and you too will see changes come about in how you feel about reading the KJV!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thishas been the...
best investment we have made in a long time. I also disagree with the review that it's a poor rendering of the Scripture. Even tho at places the reading does seem to speed up that's just a poor editing job of not leaving enough space between the passages. The main voice is Smooth and Soothing, and the others fit the parts that are read. The Audio is crisp and clean also. Small problems are the Main voice is always a little louder than the various other voices used in the reading, and I'm not really hip on the card-board sleeves that it comes in, buts thats an easy fix. The music, IF you focus on it, is distracting, but so are the sound effects. The point is the Word of God, not the extras. Even with these small nit picks I find it to be a great product, and overall the best investment that we have made in a long time. No store in the area had this item for less than $90, so this is the best deal going. Even with Super Saver Shipping, it got to me in 9 days. 64cds, over 75 hours of audio, I can handle that for a $40 savings! If you like the KJV of the Bible, GET THIS! You will not be sorry. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Clear, understandable, logical, and exciting!
Although he is a university professor, Dr. Hahn's explanations of each of the sacraments are crystal-clear and understandable to us "ordinary people" -- he speaks as much to the heart as to the mind.He gives lots of Scriptural references along the way in case the listener wants to look anything up, and it's fascinating to see the logical context he shows for each sacrament, so that everything falls into place as a cohesive (and very beautiful!) whole.I would recommend this for anyone who would like to know more about the Sacraments, the reasons for them, and/or would like to get more out of them.It is a great way to learn to see and love one's own connectedness with God and neighbor -- especially when feeling alone. ... A long and boring tale, much of the dialog is during meetings of various U.S. law enforcement agencies. Mr. DeMille has done much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great characters and pacing!!!
This was my first DeMille book and I'm an instant John Corey fan. This is a first person story told by John, a member of the Terrorist taskforce, and third person when Asad Khalil is on the scene. This is a cat and mouse genre story. If you like wise cracking narrators then you will enjoy John Corey who has authority issues, which he uses to full use to crack on the FBI, CIA, and who ever else that might act too important. He is also about the safety of the average person which makes his behavior tollerable and enjoyable. He and his love interest add just enough flavor to the storylines and lighten the story when needed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lion's Game is a fabulous read
Lion's Game is a fabulous read! The worst I can say about Plum Island and Lion's Game is that both books ended and I felt like a good friend left!!!! I am always in a mad dash to find out where de Mille is taking us, but sad when the journey ends, not because I am not satisfied with the outcome, but because the book has ended! Corey is a such a likeable rogue and I miss him when I am between books! Hurry up and write the next one!

1-0 out of 5 stars A weak case and a cheap trick
The author of this book claims to be a converted atheist asking tough questions from atheist perspective in forms of interviews with experts on Christiannity. However from the onset of the first interview it becomes very obvious that the whole thing is a pretense. After asking initial question (challenge to faith) and receiving first answer, any answer, he immediately assumes the role of wideeyed student and fails to give any real challenge in the follow up questions.Any freethinker could do much better job making those "experts" to work a little harder. The whole scheme resembles a martial arts movie where cohorts of opponents run towards the hero with thieir guards down only to be knocked down.
4-0 out of 5 stars Well done and an easy read
4 1/2 really. This is a very well written and researched book.I am very impressed with the quality and the style that Mr. Strobel uses. This is an excellent book for believers and new Christians.Skeptics should read this book as a basis for understanding the true defense of Christianity.Believers will be comforted and skeptics will find good challenges in the pages of this work.
4-0 out of 5 stars Another solid work
After reading "A Case for Christ" I read this book.Lee does an excellent job of interviewing the right people to answer each objection to Christianity. This book deffinately enhanced my faith.

Piloting his 747, Rayford Steele is musing about his wife Irene's irritating religiosity and contemplating the charms of his "drop-dead gorgeous" flight attendant, Hattie. First Irene was into Amway, then Tupperware, and now it's the Rapture of the Saints--the scary last story in the Bible in which Christians are swept to heaven and unbelievers are left behind to endure the Antichrist's Tribulation. Steele believes he'll put the plane on autopilot and go visit Hattie. But Hattie's in a panic: some of the passengers have disappeared! The Rapture has happened, abruptly driverless cars are crashing all over, and the slick, sinister Romanian Nicolae Carpathia plans to use the UN to establish one world government and religion. Resembling "a young Robert Redford" and silver-tongued in nine languages, Carpathia is named Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Just REALLY BAD writing!
Ok, I don't mean to be rude, but if you think this is great writing you are woefully uneducated. It is almost a sad confirmation of the common stereotype of fundamentalist Christians being uneducated yokels that so many of them think this is great writing. Here's my take: I'd enjoy a good "end of times" story - this just isn't it. The Left Behind series is amateurish and poorly written and just plain astonishing to me that it has had such huge success. P.T. Barnum once said that no one ever went broke understimating the intelligence of the American public and this series proves it. Christians should demand better writing from their revered authors. Go read some C.S. Lewis or something - please.
2-0 out of 5 stars Christian fundamentalism dramatized
Even the avid "trekie" reader of the Star Trek science fiction novels, movies and television series must suspend disbelief, when he finds Captain Kirk saying "Beam me up, Scotty."But the biblical literalist reading this book need make no such effort, when he reads in this book that Jesus will effectively beam millions of true Christians up to heaven in the world-wide "Rapture."Though the characters and their roles are fictitious, the book specifically references the relevant biblical passages for the believer.
5-0 out of 5 stars The greatest out of all books...
Left Behind book one is by-far the best book out of the first five adult books that I have read. This book is science-fiction and is a fast reader. The Left Behind collection is about the Earths last days when Jesus comes from heaven and chooses the chosens one. If you believe in the bible and know Jesus is real you will not be Left Behind. It starts out with Rayford steele in countrol of a 747 passanger Jet flying over the Alantic. As he is doing that he is thinking about the Senior Flight attendent, Hattie Durham. She is young and atractive. But he is loyle to his wife, Irene, so he wont ruin there relationship. Rayford has two kids. Ray JR. age 12 and Chloe, coming home from college. When Rayford isnt working he never really goes to church. Only ray Jr. and Irene every sunday and Chloe is always at college. But to know the rest you must read the book. Left Behind is Kinda hard to understand and has some hard words in it. (Recommened age group 8th grade-13 years of age.) Craig- Monticello,Illinois ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Uh.....what's the problem here???
I had pretty high hopes for this item, and was glad when I finally got it, but it had several minuses going for it.First, the repeated (and annoying) introduction, "This is the New American Standard Bible!" before the start of each book. This is thoroughly UNnecessary.Stevens' pronounciation of the word "offerings" sounded like "offelings", something also slightly vexing. Why he can't just say "offeRings" is a mystery to me.Then, when I got to Numbers, the CD starting skipping BADLY.I checked the back of the CD, and there were NO scratches at all (hmmmm....?).I then experimented by burning the first CD in the set onto a blank CD, thinking that the problem was perhaps a scratch or two that I just couldn't see.Nope....the CD still skipped, and I was a wee bit perturbed.

Editorial Review

Dallas Willard, an acclaimed theologian and professor of philosophy at the University of Southern California, fulfills the longing of many Christians who want to live as true disciples of Christ rather than distant dabblers. Likewise, he scoffs at consumer Christians who are simply banking on admittance to heaven as their payoff for attending church. Or worse still, those who use Christianity to advance their political agendas rather than their spiritual ones. But this is not a scolding book. Rather, Willard devotes his efforts to discussing specific and inspiring ways to develop a discipleship to Jesus--not as an act of sacrifice or even one of spiritual luxury--instead, as everyday people committed to the teachings of Christ. "The really good news for Christians is that Jesus is now taking students in the master class of life," writes Willard. "So the message of and about him is specifically a gospel for our life now, not just for dying. It is about living now as his apprentices in kingdom living, not just as consumers of his merits." 4-0 out of 5 stars Hidden Gems
This is my second attempt to read a Dallas Willard book. This is my first successful completion of a Dallas Willard book!He has a dense, dry reading style that is difficult to plow through. But I could see as I was reading this book that there were spiritual gems to be found throughout, so I plugged away through it.It took me about six months to finish this 400-page book, but I'm glad I made the effort.(Six months because I had to find times where I was in the right alert, diligent state of mind to read it.) 3-0 out of 5 stars Missing the mark
In this book Dallas Willard presents the life of the Christian as a disciple of Jesus. He attempts to mediate between evangelical and liberal perspectives and provide an approach to the Christian life brings out what both perspectives have missed. While containing occasionally nuggets, this book (from my perspective) misses the mark at several points.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book, Bar None, I Have Ever Read
This is a life changing book, not one meant to be a quick read, but rather, one to be read bit by bit, and then mulled over. It brings to life the Sermon on the Mount, explains so very well the kingdom of God and its characteristics. As I read this book, I began to understand God's overall plan for humankind in a new way, and I have begun to live accordingly.

In this series, Dyer's focuses on the power of manifesting what you desire. To him, there's a lot of truth that if you ask and believe in something you shall get it.Of course, this goes against the logic of the age but some things can't be quantified, can they?

This is a good book which gives you first hand impression about how laws are design by authority.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent review for our present members of congress and anyone with the interest to put in the time.
This is very interesting about Montesquieu.Every member of congress should read it and take it to heart. It appears that the majority of our founding fathers did read it and take it very seriously. It is something that all Americans who are interested in our government should consider reading. It is amazingly quite easy to read though, I would suggest having a good dictionary handy while reading it.Some of our members of congress I just do not believe would understand, even if someone was reading the dictionary for them. That is a sad commentary about the facts we all must face, however.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the great book people seem to think it is.
This is a book that could (should?) have faded into history without being a great loss to the world. Yes, there are a few interesting bits of political philosophy, but they're far and few between, and mainly either just thrown out as Montesquieu's personal opinions with little to no evidence or examination, or flimsily based on historical examples. As a reader, I didn't find most of his arguments (where he didn't seem to be contradicting himself, which happens frequently) very convincing. This was obviously written with the 18th century French salon crowd in mind, and reads as such. I'm sure it provided a lot of aristocrats with conversation fodder to make them appear intelligent and educated at the time, but these days it just seems like an antiquated bit of history.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love This Book
I read this book when it first came out and then loaned it to someone.I never got it back so decided to purchase it again. After reading it the second time, I was just awestruck by how much this book affected me.I have read most of the life after life books by numerous authors. Some are more believable than others but Sylvia Browne's is one of the most believable yet.It is easy to read and understand and you can actually visualize how things probably appear on the other side. One of my favorite parts is the appendix which lists the categories of Life Plans that we use when scripting our earthly incarnations. It is interesting to see how one specific category will jump out at you giving you a better understanding of why your current life is the way it is and also why other people in your lives make the choices that they do.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is exploring the afterlife. ... I read the 4 Agreements and loved it and even took a seminar series on it.Then I stumbled across this book!It is fantastic! It is a roadmap on how to be happy, how to experience heaven right now (love yourself unconditionally. You will be happy any time your love is flowing to others).Simple concepts but I didn't know them.I typically underline when I read non-fiction so I can quickly review the salient points later on... in this case I might as well plan to read the whole book again, as just about every page has enlightening thoughts.Wow, I am still reeling from the power presented by Don Miguel!Read this book!!!Best book I have read in years, maybe decades! And I am an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction.I liked best the allegory about the magical kitchen (if you have unlimited quality and quantity of food yourself (ie. love for yourself), you will not need to bargain with others for theirs. You will be content and able to just love others (unconditional love!)

My sophomore year of high school I was very sad--depressed is more likely--and I had been for over a year. I didn't know quite what to do, but I was beginning to turn much of that into anger (i.e. I listened to bands like Reagan Youth, Crass and the Subhumans). I found this book on Amazon as I was browsing, and I decided I wanted to read it. As things turned out, I was talking with a friend of a friend, mentioned it, and she said she had it and would let me borrow it. The odds perplexed me, but a couple days later I was reading it, and Miguel Ruiz changed my entire perspective. I cannot forget the weekend I finished it-- I was in a sort of complete emotional and physical shock. That may have been when my meditation practice began, also. For weeks after I could never decide what music to listen to, so I listened to reggae (the likes of the Wailing Souls, Inner Circle, Bob and Ziggy) and also started reading eastern philosophy. Am I straying? I was just explaining the impact I felt at sixteen. As I am a sophomore now in college, I still keep this book with me, and I am about to read it again. Don Miguel's thoughts always enlighten, inspire and ground me inestimably. But I am going to go, to begin this book again. Enjoy, ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars i read this over and over again.
this book never gets old.i've had it for so long and now i'm off to college and i still enjoy reading it cover to cover.anne is a great character, one who is easy to love and who explains herself well.the other characters are also quirky.something about this book is very universal, which i think explains why even in this century i still find myself being able to relate to Anne.the plot, while essentially a love story, is not overly sappy.and while most people would probably expect the ending, the twists and turns throughout the novel keep you entertained and engaged.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful
"Anne of the Island" is my favorite Anne book, and the last chapters of my copy are worn and torn because I have read it so many times.I loved it as a young girl, and I loved it again when I read it from my college dorm room (in fact, I think it's time for another rereading!).Plus, of course, a college education makes many of the literary references more relevant than they were at age 11.
5-0 out of 5 stars ENJOYED THIS THIRD OF THE SERIES AS MUCH AS THE FIRST
The story of Anne continues with this work and the author stays true to her style, story line and character developement. This, like the other books in this series, have a rather timeless nature about them and a comforting charm. The reader, of course, must remember the time they were written and the style and syntax used at that time. From my own point of view, this is great.I enjoy this type of writing and certainly enjoy Ms. Montgomery's story telling abilities. In this work, Anne goes off to Redman College and her adventure continues.Recommend these books for readers of all ages.Wish there were more works out there like it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars About James Dobson
I Lived in Colorado Springs just down the road from focas on the family for several years and the review I read about what James Dobson was saying struck me as funny. This man claims to be a godly and rightgious man hiself yet he is only in this for the money as well. You go into the gift shop at focas on the family and when you go to purchase anything in there on it, it says donation price is.... So that Mr Dobson does not have to pay taxes on it. So Who is the hipocrite here????? I do not know if this book is true or not but I would like to keep an open mind. None of us in this world knows the truth that lies out there the greatest gift we can give to ourselves and others is pure love and I think that is what is trying to be said in this book. There is no wrong or right way there is just faith and the ultimate to except everyone and everything and to obtaine that higher level and to love one another unconditionally......

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally
I grew up in the church, l was bombarded with the bible and its endless threats of sin and hell. Finally through the Conversations of God books I have discovered a God that loves us all. Would you torture the ones you love for making mistakes? God is love. More love than you could ever understand. I am thankful to have found the truth, Finally! Thank you God.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Good Listen for Drive Time
I've only been able to get thru the first disc, but find the content good; sometime thought-provoking, sometimes humorous, sometimes sad, sometimes all of that. The music was a bit overpowering tho; I would find myself turning it down, then having to turn it back up when the speaker began. It tended to drown out the voice of the speaker at the beginning, or was too sappy-happy (I just don't enjoy some of the contemporary Christian music; my church worship as a child was all about a piano and/or organ, old hymns and a big lady with a big voice who could really belt 'em out!) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great meditation tape
I find listening to this tape over and over and over like a music tape, I am getting into Dogen's mind a little, and it is actually starting to make sense!!!! Egads, I should check myself in! It is really a different experience hearing it and trying to follow it, as compared to reading it.It has become sort of like poetry for me, I guess. Thanks to Gary Snyder and Kaz and Dogen. gassho.Read more

Editorial Review

This is not a collection of encouraging essays on simplicity, nor is it perky advice on how to get by with less. Timothy Miller, a clinical psychologist, sets out to uncover in recent scientific studies the roots of the insatiable appetite of humans. After establishing our instinctual need for More, he pursues its destructive consequences and then he outlines a methodology for transcending the cycle. His infinitely pragmatic advice centers on his elaboration of Compassion, Attention, and Gratitude. Here is perennial wisdom transformed into practical science. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Flawed Tone, but Solid, Livable Strategies
I first read How to Want What You Have many years ago, and I remember being incredibly excited by it. Miller's advice for practicing compassion, attention, and gratitude has stuck with me since. Upon re-reading it, however, I noticed a subtle dogmatic preference for Cognitive Therapy that turned me off just a little. Don't get me wrong, I have loved and used Cognitive Therapy in my own life ever since I discovered it in David D. Burns' Feeling Good. But I've also found other methodologies like Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Behavior Therapy, and Positive Psychology to be scientifically rigorous and just as effective. Whether a function of bias or simply the fact that a lot of progress has been made in these other areas in the 10 years since its publication, Miller's book seems to rely too strongly on Cognitive Therapy-at the seeming exclusion of other strategies.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical advise for the hectic modern world we live in
this is some very basic insight to living a simple, content, fullfilling life -- Miller points out, in humorous, interesting ways, the things we already know to be true, but in our haste to live up to marketing hype that surrounds us, we forget.
5-0 out of 5 stars Modernized Buddist Wisdom
Loved it! A thoughtful, wise, and uplifting modern reiteration of the best of Buddism, IMO. I read it years ago, and still treasure it today. ... Read more
