Good story gets better
I agree that the story is told better in the second book.In the first book, I liked the idea, but thought the execution just never got pulled off.The idea of animals being made smarter, humans being made more animalistic and what effects that would have on our world are fascinating.But the first book had long boring stretches for me that made it hard to read and push through.
Three Points About this Book
After reading this book, I would like to make three points about it:
Very creepy
as a sequel to fear nothing, this book is equally good. christopher snow is a very likeable character, so i'm hoping the talk of a trilogy is true. meanwhile, this is another one of those koontz novels that leaves the reader feeling a bit paranoid, which indicates to me that koontz has masterfully crafted his work. always the researcher, koontz successfully incorporated the military into this work without getting the reader bogged down in lingo. great read. just when you think things are okay, people are trustworthy, the situation is safe, you find out that you are wrong! very interesting look at possibilities. ... Breaking Fetters
Fetter means "chain or shackle placed on ankle and feet".
Finally Free
Many thanks to Neil Anderson and his book, The Bondage Breaker. I was in bondage to food for over 50 years, until this book set me free. Satan is very skillful in finding our weaknesses and creating havoc for us. The Bondage Breaker helped me to remember that Christ died for my sins, so I could finally be free. I have stopped believing all of the lies and started living again.I also lost 50 lbs. in the process. I would recommend this book to anyone suffering from any type of bondage. As Neil promises, "Take all thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus and the truth will make you free."

Neil T. Anderson is as pure as pure gets!
This book is very helpful and inciteful. I was able to understand that I was not along with things that I was suffering. Jesus came to set us free. Free from what? Why did the Bible say that? We were all under Satans power. Why would we not have something that we need to be set free from? Don't let pride keep you from reading this book. Everyone can benifit from it. Even if you are a mature believer, you will be surprised at the change it can help make in your life. Be willing, open and honest - Jesus will set you free. Jesus is the deliver. Neil is a servent. He helps guide you into deeper understanding of who we are in Christ, and what has to change. Read it alone with the Lord, or have another Christian read along with you. A Different View of Enlightenment
Anyone on the path of enlightenment should add this course to their studies. It can be daunting at first to understand where Stephen is going with this technique. But as the listener continues on this tutorial, the stories he shares can be enjoyed while gathering information during his discourse for use in the normal meditation disciplines.
Not very good.
I don't know how many times I can listen to this guy ask "If you don't use your thoughts, memories, emotions, associations, or perceptions, how do you experience X". I don't know what this question is supposed to do for you or why he thinks that asking it over and over for different experiences does anything for anyone.

We may never know
I read this book when it first came out and concluded there was too many questionable points that are hard to explain such as the gloves, the blood and 'his Bronco' leaving the scene etc.Since I am not a forensics expert, I will not attempt to decide guilt or innocence, evidence is there to prove the case, just too many questions.I am glad I was not on the jury.

Black Racism
All that this book does is confirm what everyone, (except a large proportion of the black population) knows - that Simpson butchered two people and got away with it. Excellent
What an outrage....if this case intrigued you, then I suggest you read this book and read the "evidence dismissed".Well written, and fast paced, I couldn't put the book down.It really puts a cast of doubt on the justice system.And to know this man is still out there walking around free, while two people are not, is unbelievable.I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves true crime! ... avoid the other reviews
This is a great book( here's the point where I would check the other reviews this reviewer has written to get a sense of where I'm coming from); the author is careful to point out that of course this is all part of the mystery of Jesus and he makes a fascinating case. It's a book full of great photos and research. The problem is that Jesus as the myth hits too close to home for most people. at least we ( at this point) don't have the Inquisition of the middle ages around.

I'm still wondering... what are the Jesus Papers?
The first chapter piqued my interest by describing an encounter of the author's with some Middle Eastern businessmen peddling old documents.However, after finishing the book, I am still wondering what this had to do with his story.
Unsubstantiated hype!
"It must now be self-evident that there is a vast gulf between the Jesus of history and the Jesus of faith."This is Baigent's theme in "The Jesus Papers."But does he succeed?Does he provide evidence to prove his assertion, or even lead a careful reader to consider his claim probable?No.Not even close.

One of the best books I've ever read.
I picked up this book not long after I made the decision to step out of the rat race for the rest of my life, to return to the way I once lived, namely simple.I've listened to Swindoll for years and he has, hands down, been the most influential man in my life so understand that I'm already biased strongly in his favor.
Get back to the basics!
New or old, Christians tend to think they must out-do, over-perform, out-tithe, out-memorize, over-volunteer the next Christian in order to prove how faithful they are.That's not what faith or Christianity is about!This book gets you back to the basics, back to the Sermon on the Mount, back to what Jesus said... not what the neighbor's said.If you're feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, or scared of the Christian faith, this is a wonderful book because it tells you what is the basics, what is required, what is called for by Jesus, so you can either leave the rest behind, or understand that you're doing it to (and for) yourself.

Simply a good book
This book really encouraged me in my faith.It is a Bible study on the Sermon on the Mount and Jesus' central message.There is a true peaceful feeling in the writing.Swindoll urges us to get away from the busyness of modern life, even in the church, to focus on simple faith and building a relationship with God.I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be refreshed in their spirit. ... It's a Good buy
It is a nice audio book.It does have it's flaws though.
Brilliant, and well worth the money!
I am not a "Total Ringophile", like some out there, but I have read the books three times and loved them. I lashed out and purchased this 46 CD set as I spend a lot of time on the commute to work. It is brilliant!Each CD has approx 15 "tracks" on it so that if you miss a bit as your mind wanders (as it does in the car..) you can just bounce back one track and hear that bit again, no problems. Rob Inglis does a great job, no question. It has added a new dimension to my experince of Tolkien's masterpiece, and I highly recommend it to all. BRILLIANT !

Ingles does a fantastic job
I did not realize what a wonderful job that Ingles had done in this reading until I began listening to other audio books. Ingles manages to give each character a distinct voice and as you proceed, you recognize immediately who it is that is speaking.

All the references in Phillipians are changed to laughter
This book is a prime example of how an able Bible expositor can sometimes rework a scripture text in order to make it say what he wants it to say. Swindoll does this throughout his book LAUGH AGAIN, which is a loose exposition of the book of Philippians. He substitutes the word `laughter' for `joy' and transforms the book of Philippians into a message that helps us to laugh about life. His application of the first eleven verses of Phillipians 1 is that we begin to laugh again when we place our full confidence in God (p. 44, large print edition).Moreover, his title for the chapter on Philippians 2:12-18 is "While Laughing, Keep your Balance."When Swindoll is determined to teach something that isn't in the text, his exposition tends to go awry, and that is exactly what happens in this book.
Pleeeeeease, Don't Take Yourself So Seriously!
Swindoll has written an excellent book encouraging the reader to not take him/herself so seriously that all joy is gone from life.
Laugh and Enjoy Life!
A person who experiences joy is not one who has an absence of troubles, but one who has learned to live abundantly in spite of circumstances. Swindoll tells us life was meant to be enjoyed, not merely endured. He advises us not to let circumstances control our emotions. On page 19 he writes "There is nothing better than a joyful attitude when we face the challenges life throws at us." We told to laugh in spite of, not because of circumstances. He tells us to relish the moment. Live life in the now.Read more

A quaint story
This is a nice little story suitable for reading by the fireplace on a snowy day.My 12-year old enjoyed it quite a bit.As an adult though I found it to be a bit too much like a made-for-TV-movie (which it apparently became).

This Present Darkness
The book was incredible. It really puts things in perspective. So often we lose sight of the little things in life that can lead us astray. This book helps to remind us all of how we should act and how others should preceive us as Christians. Thank you for selling this book and at a reasonable price. I borrowed this book from my boyfriends mother and had to buy a copy for myself to share with others. I hope many more people will find this book as inspiring as I did.

No worse than 'Lord of the RIngs'
So, it's a load of poop! It's still quite entertaining. Obviously right-wing Chritians (as exemplified in the book) are a soft-target, but it's still relatively entertaining. I guess people get rabid about the Christian stuff, but if extremists want to be the muppets who buy anything by another 'christian'then let them waste their money - just get it out of the library (anyone know what a library is???) and have a giggle. ... A good place to start reading about leadership
Leadership books remind me of cooking, there are a finite number of common ingredients that make up the majority of dishes, but there seems to be an infinite number of ways to combine and present these ingredients.
Not so innovative
Maxwell's concepts of what a leader is is quite accurate.However, I don't think he needed to spend over 200 pages to define what a leader is.That's what this book came to be: one long, repetitive, obvious definition for leadership.I didn't see these as laws so much as nuances of what he'd already said.

Very helpful!
Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down.The author gently helps you pin-point your problem areas and sensitively points you in the right direction (to God). I loved the idea of imagining your mind as a control center and identifying who was really at the controls, then working to put God and you back into the control seat.

Rather weak and superficial
I am surprised by the high ratings of the previous reports, for I found the book to be very superficial. The main point of the book is that authenticity means to take control of your decisions, but it does notprovide any real help about how to achieve this goal. The discussion isvery naive and useless if you really have a problem. It may be of some useif you a strongbeliever, since the author builds a lot on christianvalues.

One of the best books on learning how to respect/honor self

After reading the first book *(which was catastropha) and reading the second which was really good, I thought that the series is taking off, I was mistaken, the third book is slow, and boring, you can see very well that Stephan king has no Idea what so ever where he is going to take that series

this author an awesome discovery!
In two weeks I have read books 2,3 & 4 of the Heathersleigh series.I am purchasing #1 to read.I got so involved in the characters of the series.The thing which impressed me was that, in the process of reading them, I began to be aware of people in my life - and myself - who suffered the same spiritual afflictions as the Rutherfords and their friends; and more painfully so, was brought to a point of reassessing myself and my motives in life.I would think "how could amanda be like that" and a gentle nudging of the spirit would remind me that I, too, have allowed such pettiness in my life..Not only entertaining and full of historial and geographical knowledge, but full of spiritual awakening.

Excellent Book!
Out of all of Michael Phillips' books, this one is my favorite!I haven't been able to put it down because it is so fasinating and captivating!If you want an excellently written book that has explicit research, this bookis for you.The characters are interesting and very real, whether it isCatharine and George exploring Heathersleigh Hall, the McFees visiting, orAmanda with her seemingly endless problems.I studied World War I inschool this year and all the events that happened previously are in thisbook, which makes the book very interesting for me as well.There isnothing in this book I did not like!Read it yourself!

Enormously Helpful
I was very surprised at how well I connected with "Purpose Driven Life".I'm not a born-again Christian; I'm just a regular guy.I never thought how all the little details in my life were created for God's purpose.But a lot of my thinking came together when I listed to some of the author's ideas.

After witnessing the recent horror (school massacre) inflicted upon the Amish community, "Everyday Sacred" is a timely reminder that they and the human spirit will endure.It reminds us to ask not what we lack, but to appreciate, daily, what we already have.
The Cure for the unnamed Problem
It's a great description of the Spritual Cure.... but we never analyze what was wrong in the first place... it's a type of Narcissism which in her case comes into conflict with her religious values and forced her to develop her spritual walk as a cure.
Inspirational!
This book fell into my lap at a time when I was "most ready" to hear it, so my review may be tainted.It was so inspirational to me, and I absolutely loved the analogies and word pictures that Sue Bender used.I refer to those illustrations in my mind nearly every day.I use this book as my nightstand "go to book" when I need a spiritual pick-me-up.It is beautiful, articulate, and powerful.I have sent copies to nearly everyone I know because I believe anyone and everyone, no matter what your spiritual beliefs are, can benefit from Ms Bender's eloquent writing. ...
