5-0 out of 5 stars A profound and moving listening experience
Ground Zero And The Human Soul: The Search For The New Ordinary Life is an impressively presented audio collection of six conversations with Lynn Jericho and Bethene LeMahieu who discuss personal spiritual growth; the ramifications of the September 11th attacks; and various ways to chart a future that rises above fundamentalism, aggression, and greed. A profound and moving listening experience, Ground Zero And The Human Soul is narrated with confidence, reflecting a primary concern with sharing a positive vision for tomorrow. 6 cassettes, 6 hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ground Zero and the Human Soul
Bethene LeMahieu and Lynn Jericho have fashioned a compelling exploration of our individual humanities and the responsibilities we bear in aspiring to a viable, thriving, and compassionate world for ourselves and those who follow. A provocative delineation of the four-fold human being and the three-fold soul provides a basis for nourishing both our uniqueness and our commonality with others as we rebuild from the ruins of personal andglobal trauma to construct a new ordinary life which transcends evil through truth, beauty and goodness. The six audio tapes document the human spirit and its potential while challenging to action those who long for universal justice and peace. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT, GREAT READ !!!!!!
This is her second I have read and I really enjoy Mrs. Brown's writing. She has an amazing talent for including crime, passion, betrayal, and so much more. Her attention to detail is wonderful, I felt like I could actually see the whole book as a movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Novel
I loved this book.Next to "Chill Factor" this is the best of the four books I've read so far by Sandra Brown. This book was evenly paced and believable. The good characters were lovable and the romance between Jack and Anna was electrifying.I suggest listening to it on audio to get the full effects of the tension and emotions between the two of them. This is more a love story than anything, but there are plenty of grisly details and intrigue surrounding the criminality in the story.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreadable
I too Love Sandra Brown. A close friend of mine gave me two of her books one day- I read them and was HOOKED. I own about 40, I've read about 10 thus far, and I have to say that this one was the HARDEST. I too found it VERY HARD to stick with and finish "Unspeakable," even though I had already made it half way through. I did finally force myself to finish, but did I mention how hard it was? There are so many stories to follow and so many characters to keep straight. It was very dry and very bla. I did not enjoy it AT ALL. The end is meant to throw you off, but it only left me flat. PLEASE SKIP THIS ONE. Read Two Alone (my personal favorite) or Exclusive instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Oldie But A Goodie

5-0 out of 5 stars This Edition is Fine, Contrary to One Reviewer's Misplaced Assessment
This edition (Modern Library, 1999, 640 pp.) of James' classic is fine, contrary to the review from "a reader" (Washington, D.C.).That reviewer is apparently criticizing a different edition, "William James and The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Centenary Celebration" (Hardcover) (edited by J. Carrette, published by Routledge in 2005).At 272 pages, the Routledge edition is seriously abridged. The Washington, D.C. reviewer's assessment of the Routledge edition may be entirely correct; however, it should have been appended to that edition's Amazon.com web page, instead of this one (i.e., the Modern Library edition).Misplaced here, it could easily confuse would-be purchasers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy a different edition of this great book.
Shame on Routledge for touting as a centenary edition this dog, riddled with egregious typos ("simiotics"? "ernestly"?), whose footnotes refer one to pages on which that which is alleged to have taken place does not, in fact, take place.

1-0 out of 5 stars kool-aid stock is soaring
I must admit that a misguided person gave me this book. Worse yet, she expected me to swoon and join her on my knees and pray for rapture.
1-0 out of 5 stars More hype, more hysteria . . .
. . . and more nonsense.
5-0 out of 5 stars What will it be like in heaven?
This book answered that question for me.I know that the writers of this book or anyone else on earth does not truly know what heaven will be like, but they did an amazing job of illustrating what heaven might be like.I have read the whole Left Behind Series and I have to say that The Rapture was one of my favorites. The imagery in this book gave me such an excitement of what it will be like the day the Jesus returns for his children.I absolutely loved this book and the Left Behind Series.I am not an Eglish major or anything close to it and I know some people may complain about plots, and charcter development, and all this and that, but if you are a Christian and want to read a great series, then Left Behind is for you.I also recommend this book to non-Christians who have any interest at all in Jesus Christ and his return. ... Editorial Review

Some reporters have all the luck--especially plucky, ambitious, determined Texas TV news reporter Tiel McCoy, who walks into a convenience store on her long-postponed vacation and finds herself smack in the middle of the biggest story of her life. A couple of scared kids--an all-American boy and his very pregnant girlfriend, on the lam from her powerful, wealthy father who's determined to keep them apart--hold Tiel and a handful of other customers hostage. While Ronnie's brandishing the gun, Sabra goes into labor, and a mysterious, handsome stranger known as "Doc" takes over what soon turns into a life-threatening delivery. Only Tiel knows who Doc is: a brilliant, innovative physician who disappeared after a scandal involving the death of his wife. And only Tiel knows the identity of the gun-wielding boy and his girl, who are at the center of a manhunt the size of Texas. But there are some secrets she doesn't know, including the murderous reputation of two men trapped in the store with the rest of the hostages. As the drama unfolds, it becomes apparent that the kids would rather die than surrender, and the police, the FBI, and Sabra's father will precipitate a volatile end to the standoff.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A Nauseating Book

2-0 out of 5 stars Meat and fat and "One life to live."
Don't laugh, but I picked this book up this morning because it was the slimmest book by Sandra Brown I could find. Maybe that isn't the best way to start researching the romance-thriller genre, but I'm only human. Anyway, after about a half liter of Bacardi silver, the book was perfectly palatable. Picture dialogue from "One Life to Live," and a plot from a medium budget TV-movie - nothing embarrassingly bad, but certainly little more than mediocre. That was the meat of the book. Unfortunately, there was fat in this book as well, and holy jesus was it bad. Not bad in the sense of being written by a team of underpaid monkey's in some far off region of Africa, but rather in the sense of having no actual relation to the rest of the story. Picture the movie "Heat" with 10 minutes of soft-core porn grafted onto the end. It's that awkward.

1-0 out of 5 stars Quite possibly the worst book I have ever read.
The story is quite ridiculous, characters wooden, and please do not get me started on the dialog. I could not contain my laughter when one of the characters actually said, "At whom are you pissed?"Grammatically correct, but has anyone ever uttered this sentence in real life? The 'love scene' is equally pitiable and completely out of place from the rest of the book - I read it out loud to a group of friends; we came to tears from laughing so hard.

2-0 out of 5 stars A lackluster story
I am not typically a Danielle Steele fan, but I thought I would try something new and on CD to pass the time at work. The story was just not my cup of tea.It centered around a man named Peter who lived a life where I think you could say he was satisfied, but not necessarily happy. The book wanted you to believe that he had compromised with his wife and her family throughout their marriage, but I never really bought that.He went on a business trip where he meets someone whose more legitimately in a lonely marriage and within a few days of knowing each other, they fall in love. The rest of the book deals with how that love affair affected them long term.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best book i've read so far
"Five days in Paris" has to be my favorite book of all time. Peter, the main character works for a pharmesutical company, he deals with many issues. His wife wants him to be some thing that he is not. and he is frustrated with her. While in Paris, he Finds out many things that were unknown before.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Days in Paris
Danielle Steel writes another interesting romantic novel about Peter Haskell, president of a pharmaceutical empire who meets Olivia Thatcher, wife of a famous senator. They meet in Paris and begin a love-affair that surpasses any expectations that they might have. Once they lay their emotions and thoughts out candidly to each other, they cannot go back to their old mundane lives. The book challenges all to seek for true passion and not settle for anything less. One of DS best novels! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Was Redfield on Drugs?
Te Celestine Prophecy is the only book I've ever read more than once. I love it. I started the Tenth Insight immediately after finishing the Celestine Prophecy for the second time and I couldnt beleive this was written by the same author. Did something happen to Redfield between writing these 2 books? Most of the first book is very believable and enlightening, but the second is a complete whirlwind of nuttiness and mostly, in my opinion, totally over the top. I found myself skipping page upon page of rambling. Very weird, and a little disappointing really!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first book, but still important
The Tenth Insight is not as good a read as The Celestine Prophesy and doesn't even seem to be written by the same person most of the time. It is full of important informatin and learning, however, so bear with it. The third book is great, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Tenth Insight
I enjoyed this book. If you liked the Celestine Prophecy, you will like this one also. Both are fast paced, full of action, and interesting. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars POWERFUL. Great insight, well documented, very disturbing

5-0 out of 5 stars The Comparisons are Glaring
This book obliterates simplistic, politically correct views about Islam. The word-for-word comparisons between the teachings of Muhammed and the teachings of Christianity, Buddhism, and other religions, are stunning.Take, for example, the famous story of Jesus' intervention when a crowd was about to stone an adulterous woman. His words, to let the person "who is without sin cast the first stone", sent the mob retreating in shame. He then told the woman to, "Go and sin no more."As the autor quotes from the Quran, Muhammed was confronted with a similar situation.A pregnant adulterous woman had come to him requesting that he pray with her for forgiveness. He sent her away until the baby was born. When she came back months later, he sent her away until the child was weened. When she came back as directed, he took the child and gave it to one of his men as a gift.Muhammed then ordered the mother buried up to her shoulders and stoned to death. It really is time for media pundits, college professors, and self-serving politicos to stop making shallow moral equivalence statements about Islam, the Quran, and the Crusades. This book needs to be read and studied by those who now are in a position to give away our birthright. It took the ancient Greeks, the Judeo-Christian tradition, the Magna Carta, the U.S. Constitution, and hundreds of years of Western Civilization to produce the most beneficent and free society in history. Here, Muslims and others can practice their beliefs without fear.We must insist that spokesmen and apologists for Islam demand that this "religion of peace" grant its neighbors the same rights the Western democracies have gladly given to them.Read the book. Its an eye-opener.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good information ruined by biased commentary
This is an interesting book in that it does have valuable information regarding Islam and misconceptions regarding Islam.

People say life doen't come with an instruction manual, well this is it. Why you are here; what is important; how to deal with departure (death), your own and others; what happens if you spend your life sidetracked by the 'immediate but not important' issues. Written in a way that compels you to move to action, beyond simple intellectual curiousity. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!

Reading the currently posted 75 reviews of Sogyal Rinpoche's "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" is an education in itself. Devotion, gratitude, and open-minded reading in the majority of the reviews are juxtaposed with ignorance, mis-information, and a desire to make points in other reviews. Thus is our human condition. There is a Tibetan saying, "When luck comes to the mouth, the tongue pushes it out." Let us see "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" for what it is: pure good fortune.

Editorial Review

Rarely does a book come along that tackles a perennially difficult human issue with such clarity and intelligence. Harold Kushner, a Jewish rabbi facing his own child's fatal illness, deftly guides us through the inadequacies of the traditional answers to the problem of evil, then provides a uniquely practical and compassionate answer that has appealed to millions of readers across all religious creeds. Remarkable for its intensely relevant real-life examples and its fluid prose, this book cannot go unread by anyone who has ever been troubled by the question, "Why me?" ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kushner Non-Academic Video
If you are looking for the academic lecture video by this same title (the one hour lecture delivered at UNC), this isn't it. This is a shorter video, with a pragmatic focus on individual persons and families dealing with catastrophic loss. A good primer for health care workers, but does not have the broad academic, philosophic, and theological applications that the earlier lecture video has.

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to this book BEFORE reading mumbo jumbo
I wish more people could see that their humanity in the world rather than try to be God, or relentlessly seek answers when none exist. This is a brilliant discourse on the sadder parts of the human experience. Rather than try to alleviate pain by trying to find out why a tragedy happened, etc ... it is often more healing to also see the humanity of an event when no real explanation is possible. Bad things happen to good people and vice-versa. This world is complex and simple at the same time. But most of all, this book is a blessing against the current wave of New Age blame game mumbo jumbo...
4-0 out of 5 stars Simple, well done and thoughtful
This book is an easy and enjoyable read about a difficult philosophical topic. It deals with the practical reality of the exisence of evil and ties it to a combination of random chance and people's free will. That is the underlying thesis and deep philosophical arguments are avoided.

5-0 out of 5 stars The World, Less Unravelled.
Well, I have yet to read a book by Dr. Peck that did not leave me grateful. This one is no exception. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not like his other books.
I give 4 or 5 stars to the "The Road Less Travelled", "People of the Lie", and "The Different Drum", but after reading 50 pages of fluff, I gave up on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW, I LOVE IT!
At the time of this writing, I am just over halfway through this Audio Bible and I just had to get on here and write a review for it. Max Mclean does an EXCELLENT job of narrating the Word of God! This ESV audio Bible is an awesome resource to have. Listening to Max has added a whole new depth to my understanding of the Bible. There is nothing like going on a long car ride while listening to God's Word, it provides time to just soak it in and marvel at the Bible's wonderful, unmatched, and infinitely terrific truths. Max's voice is alive and powerful in his presentation. I recommend this Audio Bible to everyone I can. I say with confidence, if you purchase it, you wont be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's New To Me Again
I generally have a difficult time reading ANYTHING as either my mind begins to wonder or I grow weary and fall asleep. Having the ability to listen to Max McLean's narration of the Bible has been a true blessing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mentally Stimulating, Spiritual, Informative and Scientific
Deepak Chopra changed my views about "self-help" tapes and books. Most of what I have heard or seen advertised, by others, has been very goofy or pretentious....Deepak, however, is not your usual fare. This man is an EDUCATED, Medical-minded, Spiritual, Philosophical genius. He explains Quantum Theories in a way that children can appreciate, as well as those who don't listen to Feynman tapes or delve into other Deep-Thinking ares. This man is Brilliant, yet he does not "go over your head." He is there to help you see the light...which shines brightly from his work. Chopra's tapes and books reveal much knowledge that has been suppressed and/or ignored for centuries. His work with Wayne Dyer is fun and jam-packed with life-altering views and helpful hints, all backed with psychological, medical and LIFE-Experience research. You will not listen to this tape once or twice and misplace the tape--however, you might loan it to a great friend (that will give it back to you!)--you will find yourself listening to his work often. You will learn something new, each time you play the tapes. Journey Into the Boundless is one of my favorites.A friend loaned the set to me and now I want my own copy! I believe this man's work is so important that I feel obligated to purchase a copy and share snipets with friends. Anyone interested in Spirituality, Healing or Physics would love Deepak Chopra! I cannot say enough good things about this man and his work. His voice is soothing and his words are enlightening. This is money well-spent, and the thought-provoking, intellectual material is priceless!

5-0 out of 5 stars Boundless Wisdom
In Journey to the Boundless, Deepak Chopra explains that we do not have any control over our jobs and relationships. It is a better not to have control in those situations, that way we won't be frustrated oversituations out of our control.Deepak Chopra also explains how we canbreak free of self imposed barriers to achieve our goals. I recommend thisaudio to anyone who wants to explore their intermost connection, betweenthier mind, their body and their spirit. ... Read more
