5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing Spirituality down to Reality
As someone who has always appreciated and been intrigued by the different religions of the world and the similarities between them, I love how this book makes them all relevant to my life & how I live it.One thing that most impresses me about this book is the author's thoroughness and conviction. In The Power of Now, Tolle basically describes the essence of Being - what it is to be in the now, and what it isn't.He successfully does this by addressing the major life forces that affect our ability to be present - the mind, the body, death, time, space, etc. - without straying from the heart of the book. His knowledge, appreciation and respect for so many of the ancient spiritual teachings, from Jesus, the Bible, Zen, Buddhism, Taoism, and more, is enlightening in itself and supports his message very effectively.Although I didn't agree with every concept in the book, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and compassion with which each is presented.Tolle is a true spiritual teacher who has much to offer in the practice of self-discovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book I go to when I want to become still.
Previous to the first reading of this book, the principles of present moment living, quieting the mind, and being still to become in touch with my intuition or the wisdom of the universe are some I have practiced, along with others, that have enabled me to experience serenity in my life regardless of the circumstances. Though many of the concepts of this book were not new to me, I find this book very valuable. It further expands the understanding of these concepts and adds its own voice to the discussion of these principles with great clarity. It is a book I have read many times and each time, though I may just read a page or two, it quiets my mind and I feel more peaceful.(In my second reading, it helped me to be more peaceful during a time when the doctors believed my son had an inoperable brain tumor.) I have since moved on to read his next book - A NEW EARTH and I am on my third reading. I highly recommend this one as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read It NOW
Francesco Petrarch wrote, "It is appointed to us to lose the present in expectation of the future," or--he might have added--in fretting over the past. Though Eckhart Tolle's message isn't new--it's at least as ancient as the Hindu and Hebrew scriptures--his presentation speaks directly to the modern mind. We are so bombarded by memories, momentary incoming messages, and fears of the future that we lose the only part of life that truly exists: the present moment. His subtitle says it all: "A guide to spiritual enlightenment." You will feel better immediately when you follow his lead into the now. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful and Well Done
Most who are familiar with the Bible are not familiar at all with the content of the major and minor prophets. The emotional impact of hearing the book of Ezekiel--especially in one sitting, which this set makes not only possible but enjoyable--is rather strong. In fact, it got me kicked out of my church, because the prophets give a sense of the extreme condition in which God finds us, and I applied it to Christendom. In this day of "luke-warmness", that did not go over too well : )Having this set on tape gives us opportunities that otherwise simply would not be there for getting the "sense" of what's in the most-admired and least-read book in the world.I'd advise buying it if you're in doubt.5-0 out of 5 stars Good way to spend time in the car
This set of tapes has served me well. I listen to them in the car. I read the Bible every day, and I enjoy being able to listen to the Bible as well. I feel that the Bible is God's word, and God is the only One that can provide security and salvation for mankind. God's plan for the earth is in the Bible. The Bible is more than a history book.5-0 out of 5 stars Always "Gentle on the Ears"
Scourby's voice was made to read the scriptures! His ability to match the tone of each passage is astounding!Without having to rely on dramatization, he is able to transport you to ancient Babylon, where Daniel is about to be thrown into the lions' den, or to Jerusalem, where 12 year-old Jesus discusses law with the priests and doctors. ... Editorial Review

Houston televangelist Joel Osteen is well qualified to write this book, having used the seven principles he shares to achieve his own "rags-to-riches" story. At the heart of Osteen’s message is that achieving a successful, prosperous life of fulfillment can only occur when we stop worrying about the past or future to make the most of each present moment by using our God-given strengths and talents to achieve our goals. The key to doing so are the seven steps Osteen outlines: Enlarge Your Vision, Develop a Healthy Self-Image, Discover the Power of Your Thoughts and Words, Let go of the Past, Find Strength Through Adversity, Live to Give, and Choose to Be Happy. Mixing biblical teachings with his own personal experiences, Osteen explains each of these seven steps in an encouraging, optimistic manner that makes them accessible to anyone interested in principles of personal growth. Although written with a Christian slant, the seven steps Osteen shares will have value to anyone wanting to know more about practical steps of self-betterment, regardless of their denomination.--Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 7 Steps to a new you
This is a great book and you can learn so much from it. Mr. Osteen talks about being focused on the future and not staying and dwelling in the past. You can't look ahead if you continue to look behind you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Audio Presentation
He is now doing intensives. Do a yahoo search. It would be great if the program was on CD or available through iTunes or a downloadable mp3 file.

5-0 out of 5 stars truly an experience
I find myself listening to these over and over. Seldom have I found anything or anyone that has helped me change my attitudes and behavior to a greater state of mental health as profoundly or quickly. Not that it's overnight, but over the past month since I got them I've made a lot of progress. I've seen therapists over the years forthis and that, been to support groups, read other books. Some were decent but these tapes have been the most helpful in learning to love myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is right up there
Great books have a ring of truth to them. As you read, you can feel the truth resonating in your soul. Neale does a superb job of letting Spirit flow thru him into our hearts and minds. If you haven't read any of the CWG books, I recommend that you give them a chance. As to which, I have trouble distinguishing. It's like asking me which was my favorite time connecting with someone I love.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most dramatic and significant thing in my life.
I have been on several journies in my lifetime, most of them have been bitter experiences. I have been asking questions about my existence and reasons for being in this universe. I have questioned the authority of thechurch and christianity in my life and the lives of others.5-0 out of 5 stars the book is excellent. Walsch captures the essence of truth
in reading the first book of conversations with God it brought the realization to my inner self that we do have freedom of choice and why would God interfere with that choice. The book was so simple in thewritings and yet right to the point. It reveals all the questions thatpeople do have. It opens up our thoughts to realize that other personsexperiences are given to us and if we do not do it their way than we arewrong. The book was right when it said that there is no right and there isno wrong who are we to judge others. Very good conversation, the truth isthe truth and I am looking forward to reading the other books that havecome out. Someone gave me this book as a gift to me and what a gift it hasbeen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining romp through 5000 years of Western Civilization
Jews, God and History is a sobering but very entertaining romp through 5000 years of Western Civilization, which as Dimont so carefully points out, is in many essential respects, the invention of Jews. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply great
It's hard to believe this was Dimont's first book.As a fan of historical nonfiction, this is one of the best I've read. Its breadth is not limited to the Jewish people but also includes the many cultures into which their story has been incorporated throughout the past- this is one of the most engaging and easily readable works I have come across. It does indeed read more like a detective novel than a historical chronicle, yet it always maintains it's balance and factual integrity. It is about as objective as one can hope to get when it comes to so sweeping and potentially volatile a subject as Jewish history.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of Jewish history for the general reader
This is an outstanding overview of Jewish history for the general reader. It is tremendously rich in information and written with an underlying warmth and sympathy that move the reader greatly. It is a good introduction but should not be the only book the reader reads on the subject. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This novel reveals more about the Battle of Gettysburg than any piece of learned nonfiction on the same subject. Michael Shaara's account of the three most important days of the Civil War features deft characterizations of all of the main actors, including Lee, Longstreet, Pickett, Buford, and Hancock. The most inspiring figure in the book, however, is Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, whose 20th Maine regiment of volunteers held the Union's left flank on the second day of the battle. This unit's bravery at Little Round Top helped turned the tide of the war against the rebels. There are also plenty of maps, which convey a complete sense of what happened July 1-3, 1863. Reading about the past is rarely so much fun as on these pages. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Book Ever written
I despised this book! It was absolutely horrible! It was assigned as a summer reading book and it was just so bad! I enjoy reading books, fantasy, historical fiction, mystery, and even nonfiction! It was really really bad. I never want to read another book by Michal Shaara ever ever again! I never even want to hear or see the words Killer Angels again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning Novel of Combat and Sacrifice at Gettysburg
This novel won the pulitzer prize for fiction and for good reason. It's superbly written with a keen eye for military and character details. The commanders come alive in this book like in no other except perhaps Shelby Foote's brilliant (non-fiction) trilogy. The movie "Gettysburg" was based on this novel. If you love historical fiction and the Civil War you must read this fantastic book. The author's son has made quite a career (Jeff Shaara) out of writing a series of novels based upon this one - before and after Gettysburg (which is the setting for Killer Angels). Unfortunately, in this instance, the apple fell quite far from the tree as far as writing capabilities are concerned. Steer clear of the Jeff Shaara books and read the non-fiction histories instead. But, if you need a good/great civil war novel, you're likely to find no better one than this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Killer Angels
For history buffs, students and Civil War fanatics I would advise them to read this book and then see the movies "Gettysburg" that was made a few years ago.The books is about as sharp as one can get when covering the horrors of war.The characterizations are very sharp as and the story telling from the beginning of the battle to after its end is about as accurate as it comes.Sometimes one can actually see the action and often it is disturbing. This novel should be required reading in High School and College history classes. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars No Lonesome Dove
Lonesome Dove is one of the best books I've ever read but Dead's Man Walk can't hold a candle to it.The Rangers are portrayed as bumbling idiots who are captured or ambushed as easily as picking up a baby.I especially didn't like the ending.I thought Call and Gus would have it out with Buffalo Hump but not to be (I won't spoil the ending). It's still a good read but it's no Lonesome Dove or Streets of Laredo (an excellent read!!).If you find it at a garage sale or thrift store for a cheap price then by all means pick it up.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Lonesome Dove, But Enjoyable
This prequel to Lonesome Dove tells the story of Gus and Call, the characters you came to know and love in Lonesome Dove, at the very beginning of their adventure. They are newly minted rangers, really just boys. They hear stories of bears and Indians out in the wilderness, but do not have sense enough to quit the rangers before heading out on a mission.

4-0 out of 5 stars The classic classic... that I still don't get why it's one.
This is another of those books that everyone tells you how wonderful and incredible it is. I read it, and... okay. It's a book. And a not-bad one at that. But is it amazing? Is it the greatest, most thought-provoking book of all times? Is it truly just overrated?

1-0 out of 5 stars The Wheel of Time keeps turning...and turning...and turning...
This series has become a complete disaster.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wheel of Time, Book 8
The Seanchan invasion force is in possession of Ebou Dar. Nynaeve, Elayne, and Aviendha head for Caemlyn and Elayne's rightful throne, but on the way they discover an enemy much worse than the Seanchan. In Illian, Rand vows to throw the Seanchan back as he did once before. But signs of madness are appearing among the Asha'man. In Ghealdan, Perrin faces the intrigues of Whitecloaks, Seanchan invaders, the scattered Shaido Aiel, and the Prophet himself. Perrin's beloved wife, Faile, may pay with her life, and Perrin himself may have to destroy his soul to save her. Meanwhile the rebel Aes Sedai under their young Amyrlin, Egwene al'Vere, face an army that intends to keep them away from the White Tower. But Egwene is determined to unseat the usurper Elaida and reunite the Aes Sedai. She does not yet understand the price that others, and she herself, will pay.
4-0 out of 5 stars I agree with the guy who listed all the A words...
I bought this book a while back thinking I'd get to it eventually.I knew (because I faced this with number six and I'll probably have to deal with it in number 9) that I'd have to dig up the series and at least skim a few of the tomes to figure out what's going on.I also agree that this series just has to end.I started reading this series in college when it was already on book three in hardback.I've been out of school for a while now and while I'm still a big fantasy fan, I have to admit that there are places I won't dig in my bag to pull out my 700 page novel with the picture of the guy holding up a sword on the cover.I say all this fully aware in the knowledge that at the end of book three, when Faile comes over the hill with her army, I got chills and nerd tears welled up in my eyes.It was a moment fit for the society of creative anachronism, to be sure. But this isn't a review of the series or Jordan's life's work. It's a review of Book 8.So, where was I... I think I have to go back to the end of book seven and find out... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful and Fun but Not Mandatory
I liked this tape series.Robert Moss is no stuffy pedant and keeps the listener informed and entertained with his engaging personal style. The information presented is valid and useful but I wish they would make a CD version so you can go back to whatever bits you're most interested in more quickly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Gates: A Journey into Active Dreaming (Six tapes)
There is an immediacy to these audio tapes that conveys Robert Moss's natural abilities as a teacher and dream bringer. It is a pleasure to hear his voice tell stories and impartinformation on how to remember our dreams and use them for the benefit of ourselves and our society.I bought sets for friends interested in their dreams who do not speak English as a first language and who might have difficulty reading Robert Moss 's books (which I highly recommend).Any person with a visual difficulty would appreciate the audio cassettes. For those who like to learn from Robert Moss how to navigate in their dreamscapes and discover help and healing through Active Dreaming techniques, these tapes are a marvellous aid. They encourage and enlighten the dreamer within us all. Also on the market now is a video series with Robert Moss, which is very engaging and informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars So NOT a "book on tape"!
This audio set is a course in adventure! Yes, it is complimented by Mr Moss' book of the same title, but it is not some airy thing that you pop in the tape deck for distraction on those long road trips! This is a guide for the Roads to be found in Shamanic journeys. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas
Zig Ziglar definately gives alot of thoughts and ideas in the book. Some of the things he said, really hit home to me and I felt I could really apply what he was talking about.
5-0 out of 5 stars so what if hes christian?
a very ignorant thing to do would be to exclude everything he has to say because he would cite the bible or jesuses teachings.given alot of people are christian, alot of people dont mind.i myself am not christian, im a setian, however it doesnt mean that even when he cites the bible, what he has to say isnt valid or doesnt hold water.
5-0 out of 5 stars Right on Target Advice!
"In my own life I always pray for guidance as I choose my goals," writes Ziglar. In the margin I dated it and wrote "I do too." This book contains so much rich, practical, doable wisdom, not wonder it's a classic for achievers. Persistence leads to desired results. He quotes Robert Collier in making the point when he noted, "Success is the sum of small efforts--repeated day in and day out."Read more

I loved this book and all of Sylvia's other books. It has
4-0 out of 5 stars Demonic? I think not!
I read this book. It's helped me understand my purpose and that we're not all here for the same reason. 4-0 out of 5 stars Keep an open mind...
Actually, I am in the process of listening to this book on tape and am getting a really good vibe from the actual author as she reads. She definately says "take what you can and leave the rest behind.Unfortunately, conservative Christians come off as "holier than thou" and bascially to me their concepts of the Bible detaches from everyday life. What good is a religion in my opinion if it doesn't teach you how to be a better human being. As far as the Bible goes, there has been edits made by those in position to do so to disempower the people for their own selfish means.Sylvia goes into this in speaking of reincarnation as an example of the corruptness of religious authoritarians.Remember slavery was deem appropriate by so called Christians at one time. However, Christianity isn't the disease, but those who interpret and misuse its teachings are the culprit of evil and that goes for any religious belief. I believe we have so much to learn about ourselves, life, the afterlife and the basic truth of all existence and to think there is only one way of thinking hinders us as human beings and our awarness of the eternity of life. When our beliefs limits our thinking or actions how great is that, I ask?I say stop preaching damnation and the wrath of God, and show by example the power of what it means to truly human and to love your fellow person. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fairly Good Escapist Literature
Mikhail Razov is a Russian billionaire who claims descent from the Grand Duchess Maria, daughter of the last Russian czar. Razov now seeks to reclaim the Russian throne. His strategy includes the use of underwater earthquakes, tsunamis and a massive release of methane to trigger large-scale global warming. The latter will destroy much of the United States and make Siberia the breadbasket of the world. Razov also wants to locate the original crown of Ivan The Terrible which was reported to be on board the Odessa Star when it sank in the Black Sea in 1918. The Grand Duchess Maria survived the sinking of the Odessa Star.
1-0 out of 5 stars This is Cussler?
Are we sure Fire Ice was written by Cussler?I've been fascinated by his imagination since I read Raise the Titanic years ago, and I've read a number of his books since.First, it is too much a reworking of other novels and too little an adventure based on historical possibilities. Second, it appears to be written with Hollywood, not readers, in mind; one can almost read the script's instructions between the lines and the director's voice in the background.Too bad.It really was an idea with possibilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This is a great book. It is innovative and captivating. Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. That is what makes Cussler a great author he throws surprises at you to make you keep guessing and interested. I would recommend this book to anyone because it suits everyones needs in a story. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable but thought provoking
Unbelievable I say not as a skeptic, but as a true rational person. This same skepticism opens up other horizons in one's thinking - is this all true? Yogi Paramahamsa, the author, renders in this charming and lucid storytelling, facts he came across in his life - like his Master being able to 'know' that they will have guests arriving in the middle of the night; another yogi predicting the author's arrival and telling him of what he did miles away and many more such incidents.
