It is only in the last year that I've dug deep into my spiritual journey in this life.
2-0 out of 5 stars Think before you buy
I have read almost all of Sylvia Browne's book and out of curiousity decided to flip through the pages of this one. After reading a little bit of what she has written, I felt like I was reading one of her earlier books.Yes, she does get a very repetitive, but some of the topics recently have really made me question her validity.Either she has run out of interesting and new information to share with the public and is forced to make things up, or her ego has gotten the best of her and she actually believes that she knows EVERYTHING!
    4-0 out of 5 stars Same old, same old . . . .
I love this lady dearly and have seen her in person three times at lectures/book signings. However, nothing in this book is fresh - rather it rehashes material that she's had in print for a long while.Every day when I leave my home I ask Lillith to protect my pet and keep her healthy...it wasn't until I read this book that I remembered it was Sylvia's initial publication of the Lillith information that got me started doing it (that's how long it's been...that I'd even forgotten the origins of my request).Sylvia has been teaching us for so long, I have to wonder if there's anything left that she has not addressed. Anymore I just get her books from the library - then if there's something of interest that I want to keep for future reference, I'll purchase it.If this is Sylvia's way to keep her face and her ideas in the public domain, then more power to her.I'd rather hear her lovely renditions of Home than the fire and brimstone others choose to hawk. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A vivid, memorable account of a long-time psychic.
Sylvia Browne's INSIGHT: CASE FILES FROM THE PSYCHIC WORLD comes from a best-selling author who here provides stories about her career giving psychic readings. Some fifty years of such readings contribute to a well-rounded survey of how she's changed lives, how her psychic gifts work, and how she has built a career based upon them. A vivid, memorable account of a long-time psychic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A message for our time
I only have one thing to add to the other reviews about this book and it is this; I really believe that this is a message the Holy Spirit is sending out to the Church in different ways these days. I hope we will have ears to hear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good News (For a Change)
In The Myth of a Christian Nation, Boyd makes a direct challenge to those who call themselves Christians but have adopted Caesar (worldly) attitudes and tactics in a wrongheaded and tragic attempt to bring about the kingdom of God in America. The attempt is wrongheaded because, "[Christian] power to speak into people's lives and into the culture has never been given by Caesar, and it therefore can't be taken away by Caesar.Civil religion worries about such things, but not the kingdom of God."182."You can no more have a Christian worldly government than you can have a Christian petunia or aardvark."54
3-0 out of 5 stars Underdeveloped
In starting, I'd like to say that I really wanted to like this book. The title itself its appealing, and to an extent, I agree with some of Boyd's comments. But as much as I would have liked to nod my head in agreement through and through as I read the book, it turned out that I simply could not do so.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book
I love this book. I think this is the best book. This book is based on real life experiences. Every tenet is vital and has sense. I can reread this book a lot of times and find something new and valuable for myself. After reading this book I get very curious about biography of Sylvia's grandmother. I think it will be very interesting to know about her life, her responses to difficult situations. Thank you Sylvia for this wonderful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars MIND EXPANDING AND EDUCATIONAL
This book explains the tenets of Sylvia Browne's church "Novus Spiritus" and how she came to the conclusions about God, our purpose on earth, prayer, etc.Sylvia is definitely qualified to write such a book. She is a well educated, accomplished, life long student of world theology and history. You can't go wrong with this book, as it will teach you many things you never knew.Great reading if you want to expand your horizons and know more of the practical truth about spitiuality. ... I find this book so inspirational and read something from it every day. Brother Lawrence has tremendous insight into the question of how to get closer to God.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately boring
I'm a very spiritual person and I was expecting this CD to provide daily inspiration and help me to remember the very few things that are important in life.Unfortunately, for me at least, the CD is rather boring and not very inspirational.I'm about 30 minutes in to it and have decided to stop listening to it.Fortunately I have a Christian radio station that does a lot more for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Simple but Powerful Message
This little book packs a wallop. It contains a simple but powerful message: to live in contact with God, one need only hold Him in mind, or carry on a mental conversation with Him. The reason why Brother Lawrence's book is so transforming is that one can feel that he practiced what he preached. As he describes the process of practicing the presence, the reader is drawn into the gossamer web of the author's own experience. To begin this practice, all we have to do is read this book. We are given a boost at the beginning; the rest is up to us. Take this book on retreat, or pick it up whenever you are feeling spiritually dry. It will open your heart and nurture your soul. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Fitting Tribute
In reading Bonhoeffer's book, The Cost of Discipleship, I was impressed at the sincerity and depth of feeling Bonhoeffer had toward the subject matter. Knowing of his deep sacrifice and his own belief in being a true disciple of Christ, this made the book even more telling. His explanation of the cost and of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount was an inspiration to me and my own ministry. By his own experiences, he has laid out a model for a Christian to follow in becoming more fulfilled and living for Christ as He wanted us to live. This isn't the first book by Dietrich Bonhoeffer I have read. I found his "Spiritual Care" to be the best I have read for aspiring ministers of the word. The Cost of Discipleship takes off from that and emphasizes what a Christian is and how you should live your life to fully emulate Christ and all that He stands for. While the first chapter is a little long, the rest of the book comes across with definite concepts and hard-hitting thought. Again, this is a must-read for pastors and other ministers of the Word.

4-0 out of 5 stars Always a good read
Bonhoeffer has always been an appropriate challenge and reminder to the Western church about the incredible value of the grace of God, and how that ought to radically transform our mindset.

5-0 out of 5 stars Meaty enough to read this year and next
This is a great devotional book, and I am not usually one that finds devotionals set up like this very interesting. It is set up to have a reading each day during Advent, Christmas and through to Epiphany, and the readings are all written by people like C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L'Engle, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, Kathleen Norris, Annie Dillard, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, etc. This is no, "What was the innkeeper thinking" sort of advent reading book.It is thoughtful and insightful and has a lot to say that ties into the preparative nature of advent, that is the preparation for the messiah's return. The writings vary in length and type from scholarly writings to musings to poetry or introspection. The readings are meaty enough, too, that you could certainly read them this year and again next year and they'll still be good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much more than Advent and Christmas reading.
I really shouldn't write a review yet, because I haven't finished the book. I'm doing so in hopes that people will buy the book in time to use it this year. This is an excellent book of essays, a few poems, and some sermons. There are some very "heavy hitters" in the mix--check out the table of contents. I have only read through December 2 so far, but it has been a very rewarding journey just a few steps down the path. I particularly love the piece by Karl Rahner (1904-1984), a German Jesuit and theologian. It is very cutting edge theology for its time and even for today, and it reads beautifully and powerfully. Henri Nouwen is also excellent, along with Sylvia Plath's poem.

    Editorial Review

Edward Boyd's agnosticism rested "not ... too much on any positive position ... but rather on a host of negative ones" about Christianity. In an attempt to address these negative issues, his son Greg, a professor of theology, asked his father, a strong-willed, highly intelligent, and stubborn 70-year-old, to enter into a correspondence in which "all of their cards would be laid on the table." Greg would give his father the opportunity to raise all his objections to the veracity of Christianity, and Greg would "answer these objections as well as give positive grounds for holding to the Christian faith." What could be more touching? A son, brilliant and educated, trying to reconnect with his father via a series of touching, challenging, and thought provoking letters. Over a span of three years, the father and son try to reconcile each other's beliefs and in the end both of them experience an insurpassable victory in life, death, and God! This relatively short book is easy to read and will definitely capture the imagination and hearts of skeptics and believers alike. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful
The book was letters from a father raised in the Catholic church that had many questions and doubts about a loving God. His evangelical son answers all his questions, and in the end the father gives his life to Christ. This book gives insightful answers to some difficult questions like "Why is there suffering in the world?" And "Why would a loving God let people go to hell?"

1-0 out of 5 stars good book but all lies
i purchased this book several years ago and enjoyed it immensely.and after seeing her on montel williams and hearing her on coast so coast am with art bell, i was completely hooked. what a truly amazing gift she has, right?i even went as far as booking a reading with her.the reading came and went. . . and absolutely nothing she said came true.while the book was a fun read, i learned a rather expensive lesson and will never again waste my money on anything that has to do with sylvia browne.

I read this book when it first came out and then loaned it to someone.I never got it back so decided to purchase it again. After reading it the second time, I was just awestruck by how much this book affected me.I have read most of the life after life books by numerous authors. Some are more believable than others but Sylvia Browne's is one of the most believable yet.It is easy to read and understand and you can actually visualize how things probably appear on the other side. One of my favorite parts is the appendix which lists the categories of Life Plans that we use when scripting our earthly incarnations. It is interesting to see how one specific category will jump out at you giving you a better understanding of why your current life is the way it is and also why other people in your lives make the choices that they do.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is exploring the afterlife. ... I used to think the world of Sylvia Browne--until I started to read more widely about the paranormal. Now I can see how empty of content her books are. Whether its on paper or on television, Sylvia is obviously just spouting things off the top of her head--no validations or evidence needed.
4-0 out of 5 stars so far so good...
I didn't want to put the book down and i probably would have finished it but i had a newborn and a 3 year old wanting my attention.

enjoyed it greatly. it works well as a reference book... or even as a book to flip to a random page and enjoy a new definition with Sylvia's twist put on it. referenced something she presented as a fact with another book of hers and found an inconsistancy... not sure if that was a mistake in editing or what but- this book was interesting if nothing else. if the fantastic interests you at all i think you'll find this book fascinating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I will make this fast. This was my first Sylvia Browne Book and it had me hooked. I was excited every chance that i got to read it. It opened a few things up about dreams that i've had for years and some i've had as a child. She does not give you direct interpretation of every thing you dream but makes you find your own meaning after all we are all different. Boy some things that she stated hit me pretty hard, how i could have missed that myself. It really helped me see what my mind was telling me subconsciously in my dreams ~ and what i need to do to fix that. Now when people ask me what their dreams mean it's still hard to interpret them but it has become somewhat easier.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well informed book
This is very informative.Makes you take a look at past dreams that you've had. Very intersting about how children dream. Good book.

3-0 out of 5 stars So many dreams so little time!
I bought this book hoping to gain some insight into my dreams because I have had the most vivid sometimes crazy dreams you could possibly imagine.I give this book 3 stars because I was starting to get bored reading it.There was some interesting stuff in the book like totems which are animals in dreams that we have "chosen" as "protectors" because animals are pure spirits and most sacred to God. I had never thought of them that way in dreams before and so this book did make me look at animals and a few other things differently in my dreams. But I started to become bored with all the account stories from other people about the content of their dreams. I found myself skimming alot when another dream was told here and there. I skipped to parts I was most interested in.Some one else might not become bored, as I did, reading other people's dream accounts in the book so that is why I did not give this book less than 3 stars.I did learn a few things and will look for other souces of information on those topics. So my search moves on. I hope this review helps. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A handbook for a practicing Christian
How do we know when God is calling us to do something, or if we are getting answers to prayers? Unless we hear God's voice out of a burning bush or a pillar of fire, we are all too susceptible to rationalizing something we really want to do or one of our heart's desires to be God's will. This workbook is the most practical offerings I have ever seen as to how to tell the different. The Bible tells us to "test the Spirit" of such a communication, and this book tells us how. Easy to recommend.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is awesome!!!!
If you seek to grow closer to God, this book helps you to start doing just that. This book has challenged me in many areas of my life.I'm only in Unit 3 and have already noticed a change in my life.I love the fact that the authors don't give you a methodical approach to experiencing God, but they stress that God always takes the initiative in our love relationship with Him.We just need to respond to His invitation.I would recommend this book to everyone!

1-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A BUNCH OF DRIBBLE!!!!
This is just another "I know what God is thinking" book.Doing the will of God???? Oh please...Henry T. Blackaby only focused on the things that are useful and sensible.God commanded lots of things most of which are vile, repugnant, or just plain idiotic. Is it any wonder Mr. Blackaby did not dwell on:

5-0 out of 5 stars Food for the soul
The book "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah" written by Richard Bach, is a must have for everyone. I have heard from time to time in the past that Richard Bach is Stephen King's alias. Whether it is true or not, i don't know for sure. Anyways, this book is very uplifting. I refer back to this book when i feel my life needs some adjusting.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Life-Changing Read for Humans 8 to 108
This is one of those life changing books.I first came across this while looking midlessly through my local "spiritual" bookstore and ended up reading the entire thing in the next two hours.
5-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT GUIDE TO LIFE
"Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah": A good novel and an inspirational book rolled into one. This is a very profound, deeply meaningful book, which takes the reader to a road of personal growth. It creates in the reader a sense of responsibility to mankind as it "demonstrates" that anyone and everyone can be a messiah, or live like one, or perhaps even is one, just because of the lives we, as human beings, are able to touch and influence day after day.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what is depicted with the cover view
In searching for this title I found there were 60+ versions out there so I had to rely on both editor and cover pictorials to determine the one I was seeking (which was modern English, full page pictorials, and covering both Christian's and Christiana's journeys).Since I had the one I wanted in hand, I put a lot of faith in the cover visual. What I got was as version without full page pictures, small print and in the older dialect. From what other pilgrims have told me, the modern English version is essential in understanding this work. I donated it to the local library in hopes it will still do good.

5-0 out of 5 stars We are born brainwashed
Anyone who is a serious follower of Jesus Christ and understands what he is saved from (the wrath of God) will find this book to be an immense treasure house of comfort and fatherly instruction. Those who think that this book is a tool for brain washing have it all backwards. The brainwashing occurs when we are conceived into this world in our sin and rebellion against our Holy Creator, by our very nature. Born into a vacuum, we'd all rebel. The gospel is the news that Jesus Christ endured God's wrath in our place and is ever making us more like himself. We are no longer in the bondage that we were born into. Praise be to God!This book is a wonderfully wise parable of a Christian's experience in this world.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A must have !

    Editorial Review

This book features 366 essays penned from a woman's perspective. Sample topics include gratitude, harmony, self-nurturing, positive body image, the importance of scented linen closets, and many others. Each essay sports a pithy quote from (surprise!) the likes of Kahlil Gibran. Viewed uncritically, it's hard to argue with
