I found myself getting stuck in repetitiousthought patterns even after decades of meditation practice. This audio book is one of the best teachings I've ever heard and can apply to anyone with an open mind who is ready to find thekeys to get unstuck.I speak from my experience and the experience everyone I know who listens, to it.I hear things like "life altering changes"."Getting Unstuck" is awesome. Done with a good sense of humor and lots of down to earth wisdom,Pema Chodron has outdone herself with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read About the Power of Print to Change Lives
Books change lives and the stories in this title bear repeated witness of this fact. In each chapter, a well-known author talks about the power of the printed page to transform life. Each story is different and unique to the individual. I love this book and discovered new insights into several authors who I appreciate.

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU'VE GOT TO READ THIS BOOK!55 PEOPLE TELL THE STORY OF THE BOOK THAT CHANGED THEIR LIFE
This book is one of the best I have ever read, I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days!I was sad when I finished it.The stories were all so exciting.I couldn't wait to read some of their recommended books!I do hope there will be more editions of this book to follow.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Look At What People Read And Why
I've read a number of books and articles about reading. I love to read and find it fascinating to see what others read and how the books have influenced their lives. More often than not, the list includes the same titles. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and THE CATCHER IN THE RYE are usual favorites. GREAT EXPECTATIONS and THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV are often mentioned by more adventurous readers and of course, a work of Shakespeare has to be included on such a list. I planned on passing by YOU'VE GOT TO READ THIS BOOK since I figured I already know what's going to be in it, but when I looked in the back of the book, glanced at the titles, I was impressed by the variety of contributors, the wide array of books selected, and the stories that followed. Each contributor selects a book, tells a personal story and the way the book impacted their life.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Works
Been studying this book with my Network Marketing team. Was so good I had to read ahead! In my current job I've been applying this and the results have been absolutely noticable even by my boss!
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent tool for leadership development
As a university student, I initially purchased this book to review for an assignment in a Leadership Theory course, but the value I received from this text was greater than expected. Maxwell's reputation as a leadership expert is one of the reasons I chose this book, but another reason was that this book focuses not only on the concepts of leadership in general but mainly on personal leadership development. Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the study of leadership or developing their own leadership abilities. I found John C. Maxwell's work to be very inspirational and very applicable to real-world applications. After having contemplated what leadership truly means and how it affects us on a daily basis, it is easier to see that its impact is all around us in some form or to some degree. As Maxwell puts it, "everything rises and falls on leadership," and anyone with the desire to do so can become a better leader. This book explains how to do it effectively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite short read on leadership
I have studied the subject of leadership for several years and continue to return to this book as the best short-read on the subject ever written. I read it at least once a year just to refresh myself. The stories are well chosen and the principals are sound. It is not an in-depth treatise but provides an excellent foundation for understanding the difference between leadership and management - which is greatly lacking today. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Status Report on the Wilber Project
Ken Wilber started out 30 years ago in "Spectrum of Consciousness" trying to butt-weld Buddhism onto western developmental psychology. Now in "Integral Spirituality" he is trying to imagine what religion would look like if it accepted that the modernist critique of pre-modern religion and the postmodernist critique of modernism (including science) are true.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spirituality with intelligent thought: not a bad idea
The previous reviewer has done a great job summarizing the content in this book, so I'll just make a few simple comments. This book will probably be most enjoyed by people who have some familiarity with Ken Wilber's work (thought this is not necessary). Not a lot of time is spent defining and suiting his theory (thank goodness, since he's already done that in a hand-full of previous books). It was refreshing to see Wilber present some significant new ideas, some revisions of previous ideas, and he also began to relate different parts of his model to each other in a more dynamic fashion (thought there is still a long way to go).
4-0 out of 5 stars Integral Theory, with some application to spirituality
The book mostly presents a theory of how to theorize about spirituality, rather than simply delivering a direct theory of spirituality.By this late stage, we must set high standards for Wilber to meet, for the content of his theory and his presentation of it.This presentation is not as condensed, polished, and finished as one would expect from the expert on integral spirituality; it's a hashing-out of a rebuttal to one aspect of postmodernism, and a repeated urging to take that one aspect into consideration. It has an unbalanced emphasis on "the myth of the given", as though the only aspect of postmodernism to think about is how mystic experiencing is shaped largely by cultural factors. The presentation gives the sense Wilber is still in the midst of working-out these ideas; we'll have to wait for someone else to boil down his top-heavy use of jargon into plain-spoken English in a balanced, polished presentation with straightforward subheadings.

Editorial Review

The old Quaker adage, "Let your life speak," spoke to author Parker J. Palmer when he was in his early 30s. It summoned him to a higher purpose, so he decided that henceforth he would live a nobler life. "I lined up the most elevated ideals I could find and set out to achieve them," he writes. "The results were rarely admirable, often laughable, and sometimes grotesque.... I had simply found a 'noble' way of living a life that was not my own, a life spent imitating heroes instead of listening to my heart."Read more

This book shows that it is never too late to do a little soul searching to discover your life's purpose. The author recounts his own personal struggle for self discovery and fulfillment. This book is a good read with some food for thought.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Answers are Within
Although "Let Your Life Speak" would be considered a small book, it's definitely big on insights, ideas, and thoughts to ponder.
5-0 out of 5 stars the book let my life speak
I am a person who is looking for my vocation.I am confused and lost in my life. With the help of the book, I know more about the inner self. The path that the author experienced helps persons like us to face our inner self in different demension. There is one thing that alarmed me much: the author told us that depression is not our enemy but actually is our friend who leads us to God. The book explains very good about this point and let me have a new prospective on depression.

This is an easy to read book, which managed to make profound points about life, pain, and fate.I enjoyed reading the first part of the book and learning about what it was like to be in such a hellish place (a concentration camp), and yet still being able to be positive about life. What more can I say than its an excellent book?

Editorial Review

Rarely does a book come along that tackles a perennially difficult human issue with such clarity and intelligence. Harold Kushner, a Jewish rabbi facing his own child's fatal illness, deftly guides us through the inadequacies of the traditional answers to the problem of evil, then provides a uniquely practical and compassionate answer that has appealed to millions of readers across all religious creeds. Remarkable for its intensely relevant real-life examples and its fluid prose, this book cannot go unread by anyone who has ever been troubled by the question, "Why me?" ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kushner Non-Academic Video
If you are looking for the academic lecture video by this same title (the one hour lecture delivered at UNC), this isn't it. This is a shorter video, with a pragmatic focus on individual persons and families dealing with catastrophic loss. A good primer for health care workers, but does not have the broad academic, philosophic, and theological applications that the earlier lecture video has.

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to this book BEFORE reading mumbo jumbo
I wish more people could see that their humanity in the world rather than try to be God, or relentlessly seek answers when none exist. This is a brilliant discourse on the sadder parts of the human experience. Rather than try to alleviate pain by trying to find out why a tragedy happened, etc ... it is often more healing to also see the humanity of an event when no real explanation is possible. Bad things happen to good people and vice-versa. This world is complex and simple at the same time. But most of all, this book is a blessing against the current wave of New Age blame game mumbo jumbo...
4-0 out of 5 stars Simple, well done and thoughtful
This book is an easy and enjoyable read about a difficult philosophical topic. It deals with the practical reality of the exisence of evil and ties it to a combination of random chance and people's free will. That is the underlying thesis and deep philosophical arguments are avoided.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitively Polarizing
For those of us who have been in the rat race of modern culture long enough that we have stopped thinking, this book is a reawakening.
5-0 out of 5 stars if a gorilla can see it then why cant we?
i read this book last year during my archaeology class and never go to write a review of the book. this book is a series of conversation and lessons that take place between a gorilla and a man who has an "earnest desire to save the world". the concept of the book is intriguing because all of the lessons that this man must learn are coming from the mind and the mouth of a gorilla. it's interesting to think that we as human do not see the destruction that we are causing in our environment and what we need to be shown needs to be seen through the eyes of those who are actually affected by the destruction of their natural habitat and environment. while humans for the most part are like cockroaches and can survive through just about everything anyone or anything can throw at us, it is nature and all life in nature that can not survive. it takes an outsider to show us the path that we as human have taken, which will ultimately lead to the demise of the entire earth. the leavers and the takers are the basis for much of the gorillas references when discussing how we human came to be. this book is a magnificent and easy prose about the life we have all lived and the inevitable suffering that will come from the continued actions that we take against our earth. yes, interpretation is in the eye of the beholder and what you take from the book, or what you do not take, is totally up to you. what daniel quinn expresses through his characters is truth and if we cant understand from the spoken words of others like you and me, we need to look at the unspoken words of nature and all that reside there before it is too late.. this book has the potential to change your life and to open your eyes to a new kind of understanding and hopefully with this understanding you all can see the truth and do something about it and change the path that we all have chosen before it is too late.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keep the book in contest: food for thought
I won't argue with detractors. Literarily, Ishmael is laughable. The narrator is an undoubtable caricature, and Quinn is some impressed with his anthro-philosophical platform that he's failed to present a well-formed narrative. In a way, the book reads likea draft. It is too impressed with its premise, and is too eagerly shouting its message to really be taken seriously as a work of fiction.

4-0 out of 5 stars makes you and breaks you
there is not need to get a rocket science degree to understand the magic of your attitude, keeps it high under all the circumstances no matter what and build necessary skills for the development of your own career, attitude alone cannot help you to reach the top step of a ladder but it would be plus if you have it with other skills, skills are important to take you the place you are dream about. The rest is history.

I have known and known of Marianne Williamson for several years, and know of the inner battles she had until she discovered the Course on Miracles. And it should speak to the hearts of married women, esp. those of us with good men that we sometimes take for granted. 3-0 out of 5 stars Okay for what it is, but disappointing nevertheless
Strobel does a good job of presenting the case for Christ. By interviewing various scholars ("expert witnesses"), he builds that case in the same way he would build a legal case to take to court. He anticipates each objection, each piece of countering evidence, that the opposing side might introduce, and he deals with these one by one. So far, so good.
3-0 out of 5 stars Hate to lodge dissent
I hate to be a naysayer but as a former agnostic myself I had heard so much good about this book I was anxious to get my hands on a copy. Perhaps it was the buildup that raised my expectations too high. It is not bad for a book of its kind but nothing different from those who have gone before him down this road of apologetics. Many have disagreed with me on this but I do not think it would work well on the serious agnostic or atheist. Many, I think, would consider it an insult to their intelligence. So from the perspective of this Christian reviewer, you might want to look elsewhere for a book to share with friends. This one is helpful as a faith-booster but not a very good faith-inducer in my opinion; fair but no silver bullet of apologetics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for new Christians and athiests
If you believe in God but have doubts that Jesus existed, this is a good book for you.If you don't believe in God this is a good book for you....if you go into it with an open mind.If you are dead set that God doesn't exist and don't want to find out other wise then don't read this book.I like this book because it gives many different scholar's views on various subjects.

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely good read....!
This was even more resourceful than Attitude 101 which I thoroughly enjoyed. I like the references to the past & present leaders, the real subtleties that he makes mention of, and also the quotes he uses. The book has real substance, it's a good read, and well worth the time. Highly recommend it, whether you are a leader, or just an aspiring one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sad product of our times
I am saddened to think that this book has been not only recieved but accepted and then proclaimed as truth.
4-0 out of 5 stars Of course the fundamentalists are scared.......
It is clear that this is the book that Christian fundamentalists (I say this as an American, but I suppose the Muslim and other fundamentalists elsewhere would also fight it) don't want you to read.
5-0 out of 5 stars How To Upset the Status Quo
Write a few books and tell everyone flat out you're having a "conversation with God"....
