5-0 out of 5 stars How to study your bible
IT is the best book on how to study the bible.I wish I had started with this book before I finished 96 hours in Bible courses. It would have helped me in all my other courses. It is the best system I have ever run across.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kay's study methods explained
This book is well organized and explain's Kay's Inductive Method very clearly. It is easy to read but does require practice to become second nature. Her methods make Bible passages come alive with the background and context as well as the message and underlying application in our daily lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is What You've Been Looking For!
I just completed reading this book and I can't get enough! If you are ready to roll up your sleves and study the truth of God's Word this is for you.It gives you pratical and sound skills for digging deep into the vast riches of God's word. I have studied for years but this is a systematic approach to Bible study and it allows you to first search out the scriptures for themsselves and then refer to other resources such as comentaries and word study guides as a source of enrichment rather than a foundation to you understanding and interpretation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Study
Great study---I have always enjoyed the teachings of Kay Arthur. Understanding many (but not all)of the facets of God, His names shows He cares for me in evey area of my life. In studying the Names of God, I can now pray and believe using specific names knowing that God is my salvation, peace, provider, healer........

2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
This book is a study of the names of God.However, I found some of the commentary and discussion points a stretch - discussing sexual abuse when studying the account of Hagar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study
Studying the names of God is a great way to increase your love and devotion to Him, and this easy workbook will help you. Kay style of teaching allows you to discover the truth from Scripture for yourself instead of taking her word for it. The result is an exciting, multi-week focus on the God who gives us life and peace. He is worth knowing intimately!Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good guide on spiritual warfare
Kay Arthur deftly tackles a topic that not all churches and ministers will discuss: spiritual warfare. That this warfare is all around us, in many of the day-to-day situations we face, is a fact, and Arthur draws constantly and completely from Scripture to arm her reader for battle. The book, which is designed to be an 11-week study but can be read at your own pace, offers daily readings. Most days require the reader to look up and examine more closely specific Scriptural verses. Arthur does a good job of digging into the "evidence" in God's Word for points that she makes; everything is adequately supported in Scripture. What we found most interesting were the real-life stories she quotes from people she's known. Some are rather disturbing, but we must open our eyes to them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A place for warriors in the body of Christ
Ms. Arthur is an anointed teacher who is helping this reader discover the "Battle," who is battling whom, why there is a battle, and the armor Jesus left for us to gird ourselves with to effectively fight the oneJesus defeated on the Cross. Satan's deceptions and weapons seemed muchstronger, much more fearful before I entered this thought-provoking biblestudy that is leading me step-by-step to a realization of just what Jesushas already done for us. Ms. Arthur's teaching insist's the student think, yet offers steady help along the way as she builds upon knowledge gainedchapter by chapter. If you're ready to work at acquiring the know-how tofind life beyond circumstance and above defeat while learning more aboutscriptures to use the way Jesus defeated Satan during His temptations, thisBible Study re: warfare is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Thought Provoking -- Helps Develop One's Insights
Kay Arthur truly has a heart for God.And He has blessed her (and us) by creating within her heart a love for us members of Christ's body.Through that love, she has developed a wonderful guide that teachs us how to searchthe scriptures for answers.Furthermore, rather than present a list of herown personal interpretations, she presents scriptures, asks us questionsabout them, and advises us to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit while westruggle with the questions. So it is really the Holy Spirit who teachsus. But Kay provides the vehicle for the planned trip.I highly recommendthis book to anyone who wants to learn how to "be strong in theLord" so that they may be able to "stand firm in the evilday". 4-0 out of 5 stars "Right up there with 'God, Help me Pray!', but they are totally different books on the subject"

5-0 out of 5 stars Good study of prayer! Very helpful.
This short Bible study delivers exactly what it offers, applicable teaching on prayer. It's an excellent study for anyone, but if you have teenagers, get them into this foundational material. Focused on the Lord's Prayer (or as some call it, the Disciple's Prayer), Kay teaches on glorifying God, confessing our sins, and submitting to His will through our daily prayers. She uses Scripture almost exclusively to direct your thoughts through the study--that's the inductive method. One of the best!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for instruction in prayer
I have had trouble with daily prayer & a daily quiet time the past couple of years. I pulled this book off the shelf and was determined to revitalized my prayer life. Every morning I read a short section from the book, writing down the scriptures, taking notes. Then I write my prayer for the day - incorporating what I've learned from the book with my "usual" prayer. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tough stuff!Do you want to grow in Christ?I do!
I knew when I ordered this study I would be facing a great spiritual challenge and I am.As a christian I know of the Sermon of the Mount and it's great blessing but this study digs very deep and very deep into my walk with Jesus. It was a painful journey at first and very humbling, even unto tears, but there is great joy in these beatitudes that I had been missing. If you want the "truth" about God and your heart, then prepare yourself for a great study!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Author
Kay Arthur is an amazing author that is truely blessed by God.Having grown up in a home that didn't have God and was completely in the ways of the world, I discovered I need to do a lot of changing once I became a Christian and this book has totally helped me to not only discover the changes I need to make, but the scriptures I need to read to help me make the changes.I have since bought several more or her Bible Studies and cannot wait to get into them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very must to go with your bible, moving, motivating.
I am a new christian and find this book speaks to me through the writer's words. I am finding myself anxious each day for the time to draw near to God through this author's words. I have never read any of her other books.I find this book makes me look at my life like I have never looked at itbefore. It makes me look at God as I have never dreamed possible. I amordering 15 copies of this book and we are going to have a 9 weekdevotional on character at my church on Tuesday nights. I have showed it toother members of my church (only 98)and all interested will be taking theclass with me. Whether you are now a christian or just became a christian Ithink most all would feel the same way after reading only the firstchapture. You can not get enough of it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BIG FUN
I thought this book was great - it was really colorful. The overall feel reminded me of the book "Now I Know the Ten Commandments". I recommend it to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Excellent, but probably a bit beyond her intended audience."

4-0 out of 5 stars Be Smart!
This book has great content. My group of thirteen 5th graders is enjoying the book a great deal. However, the teacher needs to be smart about how to take concepts that are WAY above the heads of this age group and make them understandable.I wasn't too impressed with the books explanations.Using only the book I still got blank stares back from my group. An example of this would be the importance of historical, geographical, and cultural context. The book gave abstract examples that were not helpful to the kids.It took some time and some more age relevant examples for the kids to get those concepts. With that said, I still think this book is worthy of consideration. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good!
I have looked at these Kay Arthur Kid studies for years because I have been leading Precept Inductive studies since 2000.My kids are just the right age for them.I have two boys in 4th and 6th grade, and they are loving this study. They make storyboards and search for key words and answer 5 W and an H questions, and they are really enjoying it.We do it every other day during our Bible time in homeschool.
5-0 out of 5 stars Homeschoolers, take a look at this book!
I'm using this book for my son's third grade Bible program. It's fast moving and fun, yet very extensive with weekly memory verses and step by step bible reading and questions about the child's own walk with the Lord.It puts the child in the role of a movie director researching Jesus' lifefor a movie. There are lots of study questions, as well as games andpuzzles to make it really interesting.Third grade is the very youngest Iwould have a child doing this study, in fact we are taking 2 weeks to doeach weekly unit, and it would be just as interesting for an older child upthrough jr. high. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a blessing to my soul
To think, this book had been in print for five years before I found it!It's extraordinary in its frankness, concerning present failures, past regrets, and absolute faith in God's sovereignty. What a blessing that I found it at last!I recommend it to any Christian who is troubled by past sins or mistakes.Even though God has forgiven you, do you have trouble forgiving yourself? This book is a great encouragement, and an enormous comfort.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
My Mother-in-law passed away in February 2002.I really did not know where to turn.God seemed so far away.My husband and I decided to join a griefshare group, and Kay Arthur forms part of the videos, sharing her own experiences through her tough times. This book was on the "suggested read" list for griefshare.Although our group did not have this book on the shelf, I decided to go and buy it. (there were many to chose from, but because I am a Precept-upon-precept leader and student (try and find a study goin in your area - it will change you life forever).Well, i never looked back, I just could not put the book down, it helped me through those very dark tunnels, it guided me into seeing that my dissapointment could very well be God's appointments. The book has gone through my ladies book club as well as some of the students within my class. What makes this book brilliant is that God uses it to help us in our deepest pain and this I know because of all of the people that have borrowed my copy and read it - they have gone out to buy their own copy and some have even bought it as a gift for someone who needs encouragement and hope!I thank God for this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Facing Trials upon Trials - Read This
Kay sent me this book while I was going through one situation after another. It has totally uplifted me and changed my outlook on the things that keep happening to me. I am able to look as every disappointment as God's appointments.I am able to restore my confidence in God and trust Him because I know He has the whole picture where I can only see part of it.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars By God's Grace
This study was truly a blessing to me.I strongly encourage anyone looking for a devotional Bible study or a way to spend time in God's Word to get this book.In the first few chapters Kay Arthur gives you some foundational teaching about the law, sin, and grace. This is not your usual devotional.Kay has you going directly to the Word for yourself so that you can discover truth for yourself.I found myself wondering why no one in church taught about the grace of God.I thank the Lord for showing me His grace in providing this study. Now I know I was living by Law and as result I was living beneath my inheritance--under the curse of the Law.Walking in God's grace means that I am totally dependent upon the Father for everything.Discover truth for yourself and get this book.If possible start a bible study with some friends and family using this study. But remember to do it all standing firm in the grace of God.Be blessed.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing GRACE
Satan would love to keep us under the law,but God sent His Son to free us from the law and it is by Him that we enter into Gods grace. Gods'blessings do not depend on my performance, I was wrongly declaring that I wasjustified through the cross but that justification was maintained throughthe law. Kays book has guided me into a deeper understanding that throughJesus we are not only saved from the condemnation of sin but we are savedfrom the POWER OF SINNOW.

5-0 out of 5 stars God's grace is so much more than I could have imagined!

5-0 out of 5 stars Counceling Failed But God Did NOT
I can not begin to tell you what this book and Kay Arthur have done for me. 1-0 out of 5 stars Ok if never been in counseling
I took the course and used the book.It is extremely shallow and meant for people who are new in the healing of hurts.Healing of wounds deals with the lies we have come to believe and exchanging the lies with God's word through prayer. If one does not know the truth, the book may be relevant (Scripture) but one has to also know the lies Satan has made them believe for healing to take place.

5-0 out of 5 stars HEALING OCCURRED

5-0 out of 5 stars Boldly confronts the sexual whimsy of the world
In the book The Truth About Sex, Kay Arthur addresses many of the misconceptions the world has about sex, by applying God's lessons on the topic as found in Scripture. Whereas the world would paint sex as something functional, mechanical, and without emotional commitments or responsibilities, Arthur argues, "Sex, in its perfect form, brings the intimacy of not only truly belonging to another but longing for the presence of our beloved. It is hallowed purity, the union of a husband and wife that becomes a holy metaphor of the 'wife' God seeks for His Son, of the oneness He longs to have with his people."

5-0 out of 5 stars a book written with research and insight, following the history of the nation of Israel.
whilst reading this book, i have people popping into my mind, who i would love to give this book to.
3-0 out of 5 stars Very different, new spin on things
Kay Arthur's imagination and writing style created a new spin on the history of the Jewish people and God's covenant with them. She combines fiction with real historical events and trys to portray how the Jewish people would have reacted and their fight for survival. The main character is Sarah who represents Israel as a whole and is allegorically married to God. The book traces Sarah's life from the first exile through both destructions of the Temple all the way through the Holocaust and to the appearance of Messiah ben David.Sarah and her adultery, repentance and chastening is supposed to represent the Nation of Israel as a whole but it does require your imagination as you have to pretend with Kay that Sarah lives through all this, a period of more than 2,000 years. It is hard to combine allegory with real historical events. Kay uses mainly common biblical names for her characters which is confusing because the reader immediately thinks of the Bible personality while the character in the book is someone else. My opinion is she should have gone with the full gamut of Hebrew names in their original language for a more Jewish flavor. Most Christians are completely ignorant of Jewish history and the suffering and only know about the Holocaust so hopefully this book will spark interest in knowing more about history. Kay gives a glimpse into how Christianity persecuted the Jews and why they can't possibly consider Christianity because of the lifestyle of most Christians and what they did in the name of Christ.Christians today again are ignorant of their own bloody condemningheretical anti-jewish church history who decided in the 4th century to change God's laws, His times and seasons. Christians need to know why Jews are so turned off because the only Jesus they have seen portrayed by Christianity is demonstrated in Christians who don't even keep the basics of God's word and who have murdered millions and millions of Jews and thought they were doing God a favor. When the characters in Kay's book are helped by genuine Christians , they are in disbelief because this was so unexpected and hard for them to see and experience a loving Christian who tells them, " a Jew gave his life for me, and I am willing to give my life for a Jew" The book is not meant to be a proselytizing tool to the Jew but to give Christians today insight into the covenant God made with Israel and even though they have been unfaithful, yet He is faithful.( by the way, Y'all have been unfaithful too, not just the Jew but everyone of you and I, myself included)Who God loves, He chastises as a father disciplines his own. The oddest thing about the book however, is the picture on the cover of women that don't look remotely Jewish, actually I think the red-headed woman in the middle resembles Drew Barrymore.: ) If you are not familiar with Jewish history or can't relate to Jewish people this book can really give you an insight into what they have been through and hopefully it will provoke you to do some more research on your own.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beloved Story!
I saw Kay Arthur on tv doing a series on the covenant and really enjoyed the way she explained things. She mentioned that she wrote a book called Israel, My Beloved, so I was curious.Read more
