5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing resource for people looking for meaning in their work
I am an integral coach who does a lot of career counseling. This is hands down my absolute favorite book on this topic because it provides inspiration, practical tools and presents good information in a way that is very easy for anyone to understand.
5-0 out of 5 stars if you like what i've written, you'll love what he's written
Do you seek more than the conventional nine-to-five job.do you seek a job that can advance your spiritual life. a job that merely positions you to solve problem after problem or a job that will help you reveal life's mysteries.a job where you fill you pockets til your last day or a job that helps you contribute to the well being of others?
3-0 out of 5 stars Some nice ideas, but too prolix to be Zen centered.
It would have been more honest (and less pretentious) if the author had not succumbed to the temptation to present this book as a kind of corollary of Zen. When push comes to shove, Zen Buddhism doesn't earn its living as a career-aid. Its primary purpose is to help provide an answer to the problem of suffering and impermanence (as the Buddha taught) - albeit in a form developed by Far-eastern Buddhists.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Incredible Books of all Time!
Tons of books are out there on health, wealth and prosperity....and after a while they kinda get boring. But Laurence's work is absolutely magnificent. A masterpiece in ever sense of the word. Laurence creates a beautiful tapestry of Eastern and Western philosophy to create a book that reads more like a poem, than a book of facts. A book that has changed my life - and a book I intend to read throughout my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my very favorite books ever!
I actually listened to the audio version of this book, I don't know why I feel the need to admit that, but anyway I got it from the library a little over a year ago because I thought it would be about making money, which at the time was something I was very interested in, but instead it was about creating a life that you really love, so that you experience the abundance that is already there, that we mostly take for granted. This was not a new concept to me, but somehow it took that belief to a whole new level through tons of practical examples of how it can be used in ones daily life.Since "reading" this book I have given up all animal products from my diet, gotten rid of Cable and no longer watch TV, started walking most mornings in the park before work, and cleared my brain of enough clutter to find my calling in life, being a doula (and possibly even a midwife), which was something that had NEVER entered my brain before now.So that was a lot about me and not a lot about what the book is about, but when I think of why I would want to read a book, it is always with the hope I will learn something from it that will positively impact my life, and never before has one book has such a significant impact on my whole life.

3-0 out of 5 stars An intriguing approach to finding spiritual wealth
For some time, I had glanced at this book in stores and written it off as some attempt to cheapen Taoism by using it as a tool to promote get-rich-quick schemes and the like. Not a very enlightened way for me to look at the book, but the title and the back cover details did little to convince me it was otherwise. Finally, out of sheer curiosity, I grabbed a copy of /The Tao of Abundance/ and took a closer look. I am very pleased to say that my initial (mis)judgement was rather off base.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST career guidance book out there
I am a pre-law advisor and general career counselor advisor at a state university. This is the only career guidance book I recommend to all my students and advisees.Other books all basically try to match up interests and skills. This book basically asks you to discover what you feel most passionate about, and would give your life the most meaning.AMEN!I tell my students I would rather just be performing "okay" in a career that makes me happy and fulfilled, than be outstanding or even the best in a career that makes me unhappy and unfulfilled. What is more important:money and material wealth, or happiness and fulfillment? It depends which way you define "success," and Boldt defines it (correctly in my view!) as the latter.I've seen two many friends and students go into careers for the wrong reason and be miserable.Read this book, and give it to anyone you know who is searching for a career. You just might have helped to steer them down the road to career fulfilment and happiness, rather than career emptiness and depression.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
I liked this book a lot in the store as I glanced over the pages.I wanted to make sure it was not a poor self help book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I want to know if the people who wrote poor reviews are doing work that they really love. This book is good to gain a clear and positive perspective on work and what it really means, but in order to truly benefit from it, you have to read it with *cliche* an open mind. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Zen 101: Zen made fun and easy
This book is all quotations from Seneca & Sun-Tzu to William Blake & Noel Coward and many more. This is one of my favorite books and I recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars An enlightening blow to the head!
Laurence G. Boldt has put together a first class selection of quotes from a wide range of famous men and women, each of them known for some kind of exceptional human achievement. As Boldt says, "the diversity of the sources highlights the timeless and universal nature of these principles", so there are many Westerners quoted aswell as more traditional Zen Eastern sources.1-0 out of 5 stars Leftovers Again...
I was expecting something special after reading the review on "Zen Soup" but was sorely disappointed to recieve only another compilation of witty one-liners from apparently every man who ever felt he had something to say.(The usual six women also made the cut; Mother Theresa, Helen Keller, Amelia Earhart, Eleanor Roosevelt, etc.) Henry Ford is quoted almost as often as Buddha. (What does that tell you...) There is a summary at thebeginning of each chapter telling how these quotes relate to a Zen concept but the relationships are simplistic and the majority of the quotes are worn thin (ie. "What you see is what you get"....Flip Wilson.) Read more

I've listened to this book over and over, and each listening reveals at least one major "Wow! Of Course! I can see that now."5-0 out of 5 stars What the Culture Doesn't Teach You
