5-0 out of 5 stars The World of Medicine Through Spiritual Eyes
Note: This review refers to an additional book, "In His Image" by the same author that I consider a "companion" to this one.4-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fascinating
I highly recommend all of Dr. Brand's and Yancey's collaborative efforts. This one is fairly short and readable and the emphasis here is on the intricate workings of the human body, and what it suggests to us about how the Body of Christ works or should work.Just the chapter on the properties of bone is fascinating enough to warrant reading this book. The gift of movement, or the protection of our skin, is something we most likely take for granted.Dr. Brand will rob us of that conceit! He also gives examples from his groundbreaking work in treating leprosy to show just how precious a healthy body can be.The real message, however, is that God's design for his church is not accidental- just like a working body, it is intricate beauty, strength, and order in dynamic motion!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Case for Design in the World!

5-0 out of 5 stars High praise for a refreshing insight.
As a clinician who works with chronic pain, I found Brand's book to be truly inspiring. People who get negatively obsessed with (non malignant) physical discomfort face the challenge of reconfiguring their perceptionsabout pain. Dr. Brand not only lays the groundwork for changing the contextand meaning of pain - He does a good job of exploring the modern dayparadox that more (ie overindulgent, materialistic, obsessive pursuit ofcreature comforts) is often less (in terms of true happiness). A greatread!

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and insightful reading
The book gives a very insightful look into why we have pain and why it's important for maintaining good health. I found it easy to read (I almost couldn't put it down!) and very informative. I think it's a must-read foranyone in the medical profession or anyone who suffers reccurent pain ofany kind.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Insightful
Although a bit eccentric, this is a must read for all of you out there who want a new perspective on life. Still very interesting even if you just want a good read. I couldn't put it down the first time I read it. Some comments are a bit off-the-wall, but all in all a very good book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In His Image!
No one can claim that evolution is true after reading this spritually and educationally written book. It is an eye opener of the human body and what God and the bible has to do with it.This book was an edification and encouragement to me and I hope that you will find the inspiration that I have found from this book.I don't regret buying this book and garuntee you won't to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading
This is a lovely book, entertaining to read, and thought-provoking. Once you set it down, it's likely you'll wonder how anyone can believe we're an "accident" of the Big Bang and evolution. :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, captivating book
This one of the few books I have read that I have truly enjoyed to the very end.It was on a list of recommended reading by a well-known professsor of anatomy and physiology. (I am a not-so-well known new instructor of the same subject.)There are many clear, accessible explanations of how the body's nervous system works, along with inspiring stories of leprosy patients and the people who came alongside them.If I had read this book in my 20's, I think I might have truly wanted to go into medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-changing...
The single most important text on pain to be published in this century. The layman or medical professional will find long-awaited answers for pain management in their own lives or in the lives of their patients. A "must read" for every health professional and person in pain. I recommend it to every patient that I treat who is suffering from signficant pain. Michael Reith, Occupational Therapist ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Facinating Analogies
Through Phillip Yancey, Dr. Brand relates the most amazing comparisons of the human body and the body of Christ.I have read all four of their co-authored books over and over. And, after reading any of the books they have written together you will better understand your relationship with Jesus Christ.5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and Instructive
Dr. Paul Brand, co-author with Philip Yancey of Fearfully &Wonderfully Made and In His Image, has written a very down-to-earth bookthat explores the analogy between physical and spiritual hunger. In 18chapters and 220 pages, the veteran missionary surgeon shares his thoughtson how we satisfy our bodies and souls with nourishment.Sprinkled withquotes, drawings, and anecdotes, this lively book takes a gentlyexhortative approach to spiritual growth, stimulating the reader to ponderand act upon the need for maturation of the soul. ...
