"Must Read"
this book is an excellent intro to UU thought; anyone who is open-minded and liberal should read it

Good introduction to the UU church, will not answer deep theological questions
This book is what its title says it is: an introduction to Unitarian Universalism. It combines a brief history of the denomination (which, in one respect, goes back centuries, but in another goes back to the 1961 merger of the Unitarian and Universalist denominations, whereupon the Unitarian Universalist Association ceased to be a "liberal Christian" denomination and became the "non-creedal religion" it is today) with an overview of UU principles, mixed with the author's personal reminiscences.
Great introduction to UUism.

A Bare-Bones Introduction
I've come to believe that expectations matter a lot when you pick up a book to read. For me, this book fell short of my expectation, but then again, my expectations were probably unreasonable.
Everyone should read this book!
I recommend this book to everyone I know, no matter what their religion or lack there of!Rev. Buehrens helps open up the Bible and educate you enough to read it and come to your own conclusions, whether you agree with everything he says or not.I'm a new Muslim and highly recommend this to all people because the Bible truly is part of literature and history and should be read and known by all.I was actually recommended this book by a rabbi friend who believes that despite it covering the ENTIRE Bible (Old and New Testaments), he points out that it shows the literary importance and historical importance of the work as a whole, no matter what your
Great Book!
If you consider yourself a traditionalist or a modernist or neither, you will find this book a tremendous aid in interpreting Hebrew and Christian scriptures. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to wrest the bible from the pejorative ranks of literalism.Read more

Excellent Introduction
This book is the best short introduction available about Unitarian Universalism.It is easy to read, entertaining, yet contains all the important information to have a good introduction to the Unitarians.This is a good book to share with someone who wants to learn more.

a book to keep close by at all times
This book is a must for anyone who is remotely intersted in information on the unitarian universalist church.It is very welcoming to anyone who reads it, especially those of us who have left organized religion in the past and felt there would never be any turning back.The book compares and contrasts the UU church to other western religions as well as eastern in anon biased way.It really gives the reader something concrete and tangible regarding the beliefs of the church.It is written on my level in the sense that there is no condescention or judgement.I knew I would like it from the first page.What a pleasure to find a book that helps answer my questions on liberal faith!It is the kind of book I will always keep at my beside for rereading and reviewing. ... Displays both strengths & weaknesses of the UU faith
This older edition gives a solid introduction to the Unitarian Universalist faith. Some portions focus on the historical and doctrinal roots, while others draw on the experiences of the authors (who are both UU ministers) as well as contemporary understandings and practices of the UU faith. Seekers of truth and meaning often turn to liberal religion
Unitarian Universalism offers seekers a map to find truth and meaning in their lives.This book helps identify the markers one looks for on this journey. Buehrens and Church discuss in casual, easy to understand terms, the path and markers in Unitarian Universalism, and offers needed language to feelings and matters religious for those in search.This is a difficult religion.It requires commitment and an open mind.This book helps guide the new comer toward becoming more comfortable with the difficult explanations.Highly recommended.
