Excellent Book
This book is one that my daughter needed to have as a requirement for religion class, but one that she will keep for years to come. It is really well written, and on a teenage level, not as if someone "old" wrote it for them. There are many helpful items contained inside from peer pressure to religious beliefs that will benefit her throughout her teen years.

The best period.
We compared this and the St. Mary's Press Catholic Youth Bible. This is simply more complete and thorough from a Catholic standpoint.The colorful and thematic pages really re-enforce positive and upbeat Catholic thinking and practice of the faith from a teen's perspective. The authors did an outstanding job of writing on a teen's level and choosing pertinent subjects to address. It is also the lowest cost Catholic Youth Bible on the market that we found.We highly recommend this Bible for Catholic youth and those who instruct them.

Buy this Bible for your child or student!

Highly recommend!!
I cannot say enough about this book and the impact it has had on me as a daughter of our Heavenly Father. I felt it was a bit depressing in the beginning, and found some of the personal accounts almost hard to believe, but once I got past those, it was a big "aha!" I have never felt comfortable around women, don't trust them. This book has helped me to see women the way God sees women. I long for every Christian woman to read this--it is life-altering! Now that I have a daughter, it is even more important for me to pass on to her how God cherishes her. And I value her the way God values us as women. Knowing that I didn't want a daughter, my friend told me that having a daughter will help me to see how God sees me. I've never forgotten that, and reading this has given me hope for resolution with my mother. And hope for a better relationship with my daughter.
Excellent theology -- gets to the heart of all things
Excellent book!Gets to the heart of a woman's heart and to her relationship with men, with other women, and with God.Very empowering.Very healing. This book exalts God and helps us to understand who we really are and are meant to be.As a Christian egalitarian, I found the book empowering for both my husband and I and a resource for discovering greater strengthening and intimacy in our Christ-centered covenant of marriage.

Captivating is Captivating
I couldn't disagree more with one of the previous reviewers.I think this book is very insightful.It helps a woman to understand just how much God loves her and to realize that her life isn't ONLY about service to others.What I'm learning is more about how much He wants me to heal and to wake up to His unconditional Love - to be alive in Him and in my relationship with Him - to learn to TRULY trust Him as my Lord and Savior and Lover of my soul.If I learn more about His Love for me, and I learn to better love Him, I will better follow Him. ... A good Catholic Study Bible just got better!
If Oxford University Press had done nothing but reset the first edition (1970) in a more readable typeface, the second edition would have been well worth its purchase price. They did this, and more.

This Bible is not a Leather version, just hardcover and no dust jacket either.It is tabbed which is great, but words of Jesus are not in red.Entire text is in black, commentary and actual Scriptures are in black, just different font size.Difficult to read. ... Read more

Bilingual BIBLE -- Englsih--Spanish
I am very plesed with this bible. I use it for the purpose of studying Spanish. I find this an excellent way to master new vocabulary and for gaining an understanding of idiomatic phrases. In the past I used separate Bibles and this was very time consuming. I can now read a chapter a day and study the new phrases without having recourse to a dictionary.
Spanish/English Bible
This Bible has a nice leather cover, readable type size and font, and is set up well on the page for someone who is aspiring to be bilingual.Verses are across from each other in two columns on each page, so going back and forth between languages is easy.An excellent Bible, excellent value and we received it in 2 days.

New Interpreter's Study Bible w/Apocrypha
NISB is an excellent resource for clergy, students, congregations and public libraries as well as general public. Well laid out with maps, charts, introductry materials. I think it is better than the 12 volume NIB commentary. It brings together materials that the Oxford Annotated Study and HarperCollins Study Bibles have separately. Scholarly comments walk careful line between "conservative" and "liberal" Could have been clearer about some points (e.g. composition of Corinthian correspondence). Recommend highly. Also available on CD separately. Worth the money!
Good content but needs CD to run program
The content is great but the cd has to be in the computer in order to run the program. This means that the cd drive is constantly running to find information. It makes the experience noisy and frustrating. Content is a 10 and software ease of use is a 2. The Oxford software is much easier to use. (Logos Based) I am not sure if I would buy it again or simply buy the book. The included dictionary is a plus though.

Excellent Historic Notes; Language Notes
So far I have just read Mark and Genesis;Never read the Bible before. What got me started was Bruce Feiler's "Walking the Bible" which I also recommend.The historic and language notes are excellent and add a lot of food for thought to the textual reading. While reading Feiler's book I checked out the Bible verse references. This added a lot of fun to the process of reading "Walking the Bible." There is a tendency in the footnotes to the new Interpreters' Bible to try to excuse the male-oriented facts of the Bible, what I take to be a "liberal" apology to the reader, but who cares?the Bible is the Bible.I recommend this Bible to anyone interested in a serious study of the Bible both as a literary and study work. I rate it tops. Amazon had the lowest price, and a lot of local Bookstores including "Christian" Book stores did not stock it. ... Read more

"A bit shallow compared to other books on prayer..."
I can't add much to previous reviews except to say that if you're looking for a solid, detailed instruction on how to pray effectively, this may not be it.
Worst interpretation ever
I read this book years ago.My first impression was, "this seems like a lot to pull from such a small passage."I really felt that there was something wrong with it. A few months later, I read a textbook on Biblical Interpretation, and suddenly I could articulate what bothered me so much about this book.
There needs to be a Zero star rating for books like this
I wonder what Bruce Wilkinson was thinking when he wrote this book. There is no way a top-notch theologian could squeeze 96 pages out of one verse and keep it focused solely on Scripture. Well, Wilkinson wrote that much, but he threw in so many examples from life that it totally took away the meaning of the verse.

Recovery from G_d's point of view
This copy of G_d's Word has so many helps in it for those in a recovery group or attempting recovery on their own.By using the indexes in the back of this Bible, the reader can zero-in on the facets of each of the Twelve Steps and find an appropriate Scriptural principle.Each Step is illustrated by several passages in the Bible, along with commentary by Dr. Stoop.This is not a study Bible, in the customary sense, but a Bible that will cause the recoverer to study what G_d wants to do in her/his recovery.The New Living Translation is easy to read, but I usually read a word-for-word translation along with it (NASB, NKJV, ESV), so as to not miss a thought!

A wonderful translation with interesting notes and preface
It's pricey, it's a hardback, but for a western (or any intellectually curious) mind, this is THE translation to get.I especially like the introductions to the surahs, and the footnoes, which tie in the themes of particular chapters or parables.This is a beautiful gift for anyone who reads the Quran in English.

Good presentation
Muhammad Asad's classic translation of the Qur'an is presented here in a beautiful form similar to that of the 'coffee table Bible' concept. This book is large and heavy! Inside the endpapers are magnificently ornamented and the pages themselves are of high quality glossy stock. At various points within the volume, the editors have inserted large calligraphaic pages of the original Arabic text in full color. In short: this is the best presentation of the Qur'an available.

What is hypercolor and tutleback?
I was fairly interested in this Bible but could not find any details on just what Pink, Hypercolor and Turleback was all about.Also that it came with a slipcover but showed this Bible in Blue, Green, and Pink.It would be helpful if an explanation of how it was different, other than in just color and how you could get something other than pink.

Youth need it in their words
I'm a youth pastor in a small church in Rural Ontario Canada, I'm building up a youth group mostly out of un-churched kids from brocken homes. They need the bible in the language they can understand and relate to. One girl came to Christ this past week as she read from her families 40 pound family bible I translated using my message re-mix and she accepted Christ . one response as I read from her was "oh thats what that means?"

In response to those who had nothing but nasty to say about this version of the Bible: Any Bible is better than no Bible at all.It's hard for those of us with no trouble reading to understand what it's like for anyone who has problems with it.Even the "easy to read" translations like the NIV or the NLT can be intimidating to people having trouble reading.The Message makes the meaning clear without being overly complicated to read.

Yancey at his Best
When you can take on as time honored and occasionally time worn topic as grace -- and make it sing with fresh insight -- you've accomplished something.Yancey does exactly that.He revisits the overused language of 'Amazing Grace' and freshens it up with his typically honest and forthright manner.
Outstanding
I have enjoyed other Yancey books, but this one is the best I have read so far.This book should be read by every human being on the planet.He points out the irony of forgiveness and how many of us refuse to forgive yet our salvation is only possible because of forgiveness.This is an inspiring book and really put things into perspective for me.

Catholics Beware
After having spent several weeks last year reading Macarthur's Twelve Ordinary Men with a study group, we all looked forward to this follow-up book. Too bad we didn't leave well enough alone. First of all, this book is extremely degrading to women. Do not read this book unless you are either a man with Archie Bunker-like views on women or you are a woman who enjoys Archie Bunker-like men.Secondly, this book lacks a sense of serious scholarship. It is all Macarthur's opinions, presented to the reader as fact.I found it arrogant and offensive.The entire book group hated this book. Also, do not read this book if you are Catholic.The chapter on Mary is loaded with anti-Catholic sentiment.He uses the example of the grilled cheese sandwich with an image of Mary being sold on the internet to insinuate that Catholics are superstitious idiots. He has the audacity to insult John Paul II, and calls the devotion to Mary "a cult." I found his lack of scholarship particuliarly irritating.For example he says "It is almost certain that in the process of writing his gospel, Luke sought details about Jesus' birth and life from Mary."Wow. It is almost certain?...Much better choices in this category would be "Sarah Laughed" by Vanessa Ochs and "The Women Who Danced by the Sea" by Marsha Mirken.

Excellent tool for Christian women
Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur is a strongly written book detailing the lives and legacies of twelve women of the Bible.I read this book as part of my nightly devotional time, and I truly enjoyed the time with the book.Each woman presented (from Eve to Lydia) is a powerful example of how God works in our lives and what he can do with us.While Abraham's patience is a given, I had never considered how patient Sarah had to be, waiting for twenty years for her promised son.Hannah is the model of the perfect mother, waiting for a son and loving her husband.MacArthur discusses in several sections the poisonous effects of polygamy on relationships as well.He doesn't hide his opinion of the Catholic worship of Mary, mother of Jesus, either.But his personal thoughts are always given with love and a great deal of attention to history.I learned an enormous amount from this book that I will take with me day to day from waiting on the Lord to being a better mother and wife, this book is an excellent tool for Christian women (and men!).

Twelve Extraordinary Women
This is a fascinating account of the lives of some of the more prominent women in Scripture. Unfolding the verses that tell their stories, MacArthur does a phenomenal job illuminating what is most interesting and inspiring about these women. The twelve he chose include: Eve, Sarah, Rahab, Ruth, Hannah, Mary (the mother of Jesus), Anna, the Samaritan woman, Martha and Mary (sisters of Lazarus), Mary Magdalene, and Lydia. I used to think that back in Bible times women were degraded and reduced to a lower status than men. But MacArthur explains well that Scripture never puts women on a secondary level, discounts their importance or gifts, but speaks of them in honor and commends the faithfulness of them who follow the Lord.

accurate - not always
The point when using any reference book is to expand on understanding and to get the true sense of the subject under study.This "Strongest" Strong's concordance falls short of this, as it apparently uses personal bias in its definitions (and comments), i.e. cross - 'stauros - cross, cross'. Research is for accurate knowledge. I was very disappointed.

If you are a fan of the NIV Bible then this is the best book to have along with it.This exhaustive concordance has everything you need to study the words in the NIV bible.It includes the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries.This is a must have book for your bible study needs!

Greek Flash Cards Helpful
I have been amazed at how helpful Mounce's Greek flash cards have been.Actually, this is my second set of cards because I previously used the cards that came with Parson's Greek Tutor software.In fact, the usefulness of the Parson's cards led me to buy Mounce's much larger set.
Basics of Bib Greek Vocab Cards
Very useful for learning vocabulary.They contain all the words in Mounce's text, and more.They have chapter references which are useful.It's broken down such that the more common words are listed first (in numerical order).Nice large font. The cards are a little small (the size of a business card).It would be useful if they had a key on each card that indicated the part of speech (noun, verb, adverb, etc.).It also might be useful to have them grouped with a ring.

A Must Have
If you are using the Mounce textbook for Basic Greek, these cards are a must!They are in the order of the chapters of the book, and they have all the information you need to learn the vocabulary easily and quickly.I carry them around with me on a ring clasp, and they are great!I highly recommend them! ... The Translation for Our Times........
Simply the best translation of the Tao Te Ching available. Stephen Mitchell has done us all a great service by bringing this ages old book of wisdom to the modern era.

The tao te ching is a great book, I'm not giving that a one star review, I'm giving mitchell's interpretation of it one star.As many other reviews have stated, he doesn't speak chinese, so this translation is comprised of his reading other peoples' translations and what he thinks it means.He then tries to modernize it and make it accessible to 21st century americans.I like the old world feel of this book, you don't need to change swords to nuclear warheads, I know what a sword is.At least though, this change makes sense, some chapters Mitchell changes so much, that the entire chapter loses its meaning.A couple chapters made no sense, so I went to the back of the book where he tells what parts he changed, and then I was able to understand exactly what Lao Tzu intended to say.Don't buy this book.

It's funny, people are giving it 1/5 because it isn't a "literal translation." It has to be the exact translated words by someone who is "scholared" for it to be worth reading.

Revelation Unveiled
This excellent book gives us an orthodox Catholic insight into both the nature of the Mass and into the book of Revelation, or the Apocalypse. Using the Hebrew apocalyptic literary style that figures greatly into the Old Testament books of Daniel and Ezekiel, St John gives us an apocalyptic view of the end of an age, that of the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem and of the animal sacrifices of the ancient Hebrews. He does this by painting a panoramic picture of the demise of ancient Judaism and its successor, the early Christian Church.
Excellent explanation
This book offer a very nice and logical and easy to understand on the book of Revelation. This book should be subtitled : the Revelation for Dummies. Very entertaining and easy to read.

Ok I pray the everyone who takes the time to attend Mass on Sunday would read this.I pray that those who don't attend Mass would read this.I wish that anyone that felt the were attending Mass just because it was an obligation, have a ho-hum attitude or felt bored at Mass would READ THIS BOOK! If you thought that the Book of Revelations was put there to scare you this book will change you life. Dr. Hahn has done it again he has really made the Bible and the Mass come to life.I no longer go to Mass just going through the punches. You know, walk in five minutes before Mass, holy water, a quick lowering of the knee, songs, readings,... and off to breakfast. Ok I really tried to get my head into Sunday worship but I just did not get it.Now I can't get enough. Calm Your Anxious Heart
This is one of the best books I have ever read on knowing God better and who He is to me.Great helps to improve my life and to help rid my life of most stress.Of course we always will have some but how we handle it can make it much easier.Our book group all love it and some have read way ahead.Its one of the best books we have done second only to "Bad Girls of the Bible" that and Real Bad Girls of the Bible were also awesome.
Life changing
This book was an answer to pray. It has helped me live my faith and have peace within. I loved the book so much I have bought 10 additional copies to give friends that are all going through rough times in their lives also. Most all of the people I have given the book to think the book is a wonderful help.We are thinking about using it in one of our ladies Bible classes.

Encouraging and Inspiring
There are currently 12 ladies enrolled ina bible study using Linda Dillows' book as a guide. It skillfully delves into the most sensitive and painful issues of the heart, each time pointing the reader to God's Word. There are amusing and inspiring anecdotes to which many women can relate. Absolutely the Best Study Bible
I really love my Max Lucado Inspirational NKJV Study Bible. It's a wonderful study bible with many sidebars of life lessons of Lucado's teaching guides. This the only one I use because it helps me to have a better understanding of the Scriptures. Each Book of the Old and New Testaments are laid out in an instruction manual style. All chapters are boldly titled to explain the situation for each one. The Life Lessons examines more closely the situation, makes observations, gives inspiration, makes application and gives further explorations of other scriptures throughout the Bible. It's chalkful of footnotes of many reliable references. Throughout this study gem are more inspirational ancedotes from Grace, Forgiveness, Suffering and Victory to God's Love, Hope, Prayer and Faith. And many more worthwhile inspirations that will bless your life. Even more, it has one hundred greatest thoughts, an index to selected readings, a dictionary with topical concordance, acknowledgments from many great references from the most notable names in Christianity. There's even a place in the back to add your own notes. I'm sure this is the only study bible you'll ever use. I find it to be the most comprehensive, enriching masterpiece of the Holy Bible yet. I would definitely give this as a nice gift.

Inspirational Study Bible
I found this to be an excellent study tool. Max Lucado does not give a commentary on the verses. Instead he gives a life application lesson with the scriptures and a devotional thought. XCELLENT!!!!!

The Inspirational Study Bible, the very best ever
I love the Inspirational Study Bible, mine is NKJV. It has truly opened the word up to me as never before. I love reading and studying from it. It helps me understand a lot more of what was going on at the times the books were written. Mostly it helps me apply the Word to my own life.
