5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring & Instructive Bible!
Dr. John Maxwell's "Leadership Bible" represents an inspiring and instructive Bible/Guide to be used to train and inculcate pastors, elders, and laypersons in the art of biblical leadership, just as the title suggests.
5-0 out of 5 stars Leadership Made Spiritual
Maxwell succeeds in creating a new way to experience leadership principles and the bible. I have used this as a guide for my youth group's leadership program (highshcool juniors and seniors) and it has been perfect. This is an excellent gift idea for anyone who has interest in leadership and believes their christain faith is critical to their approach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good!!!
This Bible is very good It really helped me out and even as a young person I was able to understand what John MAxwell was saying and I think that this is the right way to get anyone started on leadership or those who are interested in taking their skills to the next level! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Well
A tough book to read but it still doesn't explain why muslims are just so intolerant,of other peoples belief's.
4-0 out of 5 stars A DifficultBut Informative Book
This book is the most difficult I have as yet attempted to read on the topic of Islam. The introduction by Warraq suggests it will be an exposition about the history and structure of the Koran, like those available for general readers about the Bible. What we get instead from Warraq is the unvarnished conversation of scholars with one another. Only Warraq himself attempts to address the general reader.
4-0 out of 5 stars Serious academic exploration...
of an important topic.Warraq begins with an in-depth introduction of over 100 pages of his own analysis that draws on both Islamic and western scholarship. His is a genuine attempt to provide balance to the quest for the genesis (NPI) of the Koran. He begins with a critical analysis of the vagaries of the Arabic(s), Semitic, Aramaic and other languages that pose so many difficulties in the attempt to understand the passages of the Koran. Naturally, this requires that he pose the question of whether or not it developed directly and immediately as the "modern traditionalists" would have us believe, or whether it came about in some other way. The evidence for the traditionalist view is looked for, but absent. On the other hand, first Warraq and then the other contributing authors, present several hundred pages of analysis of the historic record and a tremendous source list to illuminate both the complexities and contradictions of the Koran and its history. I recommend this book for those interested in learning the historical facts surrounding the evolution of Arabic, the contradictions and abrogations of Koranic passages and the late-appearing evidence for the life of Mohammed. However, I would suggest that the modern traditionalist - who simply accepts the theory of the Koran as the direct word of God through a single man - will find the lack of evidence for this puzzling and the evidence to the contrary, perhaps, disturbing.Any serious Muslim interested in learning the history of their faith should be prepared for a scientific discussion, lots of sources and evidence, and the likelihood that they may either reject it all or face some troubling questions. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The Protestant Corruption of Orthodoxy?
Bearing in mind that most Americans--and most devotees of the Germanic historical critical method--are Protestants or ex-Protestants, I will, briefly, try to explain what is wrong with this book. Yes, Ehrman does make plausible connections between a few variations in New Testament manuscripts and Christological controversies in the early Church. And, in all fairness, that is his point of inquiry.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but have a proper Torah perspective
I am a great fan of Ehrman's work - have most of his books and several of his lectures on video. A note of caution - one must approach the material such as this coming out of the New Testament textual criticism efforts carefully. If one is intellectually honest, and willing to look at all the evidence then the conclusions are clear - there are tremendous problems with the texts and beliefs that were introduced for a variety of reasons. These will and should cause the real truth seekers to question what they know and believe - for that is the hallmark of the truth seeker.
1-0 out of 5 stars Daniel2
I'm always amazed about people who study the Bible in order to find there errors. They have a lot to say, but it is vanity of vanities.

4-0 out of 5 stars The real deal
I originally got this volume as a way to practice my Greek a little bit more. What I found, obviously, was that LXX Greek is very different than GNT Greek. But the other find that I came to was that it was a marvelous translation of the Greek text.I was interested in just how much the Greek LXX different from the Hebrew scriptures.I like the volume a lot for it's translation and for the original text which parallels the English.I use it frequently in a library with the GNT and the Hebrew Scriptures as a handy 3 volume set for desk reference.I would say that you have to be a fairly serious scholar to warrant something like this but if you are then it is well worth the money and looks to be made to last.Definitely a must have for pastors and theologians!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source material
I don't want to review this entire book, but provide some additional information about it:
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for the serious learner

Editorial Review

For the maps alone, this book is worth it. Following 1,250 pages that describe and explain the people, places, terms, and events of the Bible from Aaron to Zurishaddai, the 16 spectacular maps detail the political entities and boundaries of biblical times, bringing the historic times to vivid life. A fascinating book, an impressive collection of scholarship, and a possession to cherish, the 188 contributors and five editors show what can be produced if you don't cut corners on excellence. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars wonderfully explainitory for the average person
Ed Welch is so talented in writing so that all readers, whether expert or novice, can relate and understand what he's talking about.I read so that I could better understand the struggles of a loved one going through depression and it greatly deepened my understanding and ignited my compassion.Highly recommended for anyone suffering from depression or loving someone who does.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encouraging Balance
Dr. Ed Welch has taken some "hits" even from within his own "camp" for this thoroughly balanced and biblical approach to understanding, facing, and dealing with depression. Welch is neither "gaga" over medical diagnoses nor "knee-jerk" reacting against the possibility of medical causes for some depression. In this, he follows in the train of the Church Fathers, the Reformers, and the Puritans who all recognized and even suggested the possibility of physical/medical causes for depression.
4-0 out of 5 stars Theologically Insightful, Pastorally Helpful, Not Perfect
Welch's book on depression is helpful on a number of levels. It presents both a clear-headed use of descriptive psychology, while providing an instructive example of how to apply biblical teaching about the nature of sin to a particular struggle in the Christian life. The church would do well to learn from his work.

5-0 out of 5 stars This israzor sharp sword
If you are looking for a first rate bible, or are looking to get understanding when you read the bible this is the one to get. I teach bible study and recently became aware of this bible from a member of the group and found that this is the best study bible I have ever found. And that is saying a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME Bible
I cannot put the Bible down.I owned the first version and, yes the print was larger in the old version, which I can use as I get older. This Bible has practically everything you need in it from maps, Strong's Concordance, Greek/Hebrew translation of words, and word study. The awesome part is in the article series in the back of the Bible which talks about the problems w/in today's church, Healing of Our Nations (called to a reconciliation ministry to all nations), restoration, Messianic Believers, spiritual gifts, and how to bring another to Christ. As a Jewish believer, the relevancy in today's world with the Middle East, Judiasm, Israel, and the prophetic word from the O.T. is right on target. It is an awesome Bible!

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Passport To The Next Life
What an absolute miracle we have these texts today, some four millennia after many of them were first conceived of in an ancient desert land! The story of the re-discovery in the nineteenth-century, after the last known copies were believed destroyed in Alexandria, is the recounting of an archeological miracle, and the fact that they survived the circumstances of their discovery at all amid corruption and mistrust in the black markets of Cairo is even more amazing.
5-0 out of 5 stars A rich and interesting resource on this version of "The Book of the Dead" with fabulous reproductions of the papyri
This is book is a wonderful piece to just look at.The plates of the papyri are gorgeous and are able to hold one in an almost trancelike state just looking into them. However, the texts of the papyri are not easily understood. So, this book is also amazingly helpful by the way it is put together for those of us who are non-specialists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece
It is difficult to speak of this work without over selling.Serious Bible students and theologians alike must read Wright's work.He does not simply rehash old theories; he steps out with fresh insight and boldly states his positions without apology. He masterfully builds his case.
5-0 out of 5 stars Profoundly Intellectual and Brilliant...
I was introduced to N.T. Wright in a Life of Christ class at my university, and out of my research for greater understanding of who "Christ" was and is, sought to read the great 6 volume work which has yet to be completed.I was taken-back by how large the first volume was, however, in reading the first page or two, you get sucked into this great third contemporary quest for the "historical Jesus."I am shocked that out of all those on board for the third quest, N.T. Wright is one of the only ones to believe that Jesus indeed is the Jewish Messiah. In the New Testament and the People of God, Wright establishes a greater background than people are traditionally willing to accept - that is that Jesus was Jewish. He removed the clouds that people paint over their eyes when focusing upon the greatest figure in history. The idea that Jesus was similar to the image created in our minds in the movie "Jesus of Nazareth"; an Englishman who wears clean clothes, speaks English, had a well-kept modern beard, and looked nothing like how people in the Middle East do look.In this book, I enjoy Wright's scholarly effort to tame the American Evangelical Fundamentalist view on who Jesus was.I encourage all of you who would like to enjoy a deeply complex scholarly work on the historical Jesus and are mildly serious scholars to begin your "quest" by finding out who He was, and taking into account Wright's view on the Jewishness of Christ our Lord.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ
This series although quite lengthy from THE NEW TESTAMENT AND THE PEOPLE OF GOD, JESUS AND THE VICTORY OF GOD, AND THE RESSURECTION OF THE SON OF GOD. Is a must read for anyone who is interested in the truth. Wright gets into not only the theological but the historic fact of political upheaval in the first centuries as well the hope of the everyday Jew and the messiah they were looking for. Wright fully believes in the resurrection of Christ and that he is the vary presence of God and that in him all the scripture are fulfilled. And that God does not come in and out of the world but is always in control it a lot of reading but well worth it. This series is a refreshing in that it looks into how the bible was understood in the first centuries and not how the twentieth century sees it and Christ. This is the right step to take as Christian ... Read more

Editorial Review

This one-year devotional program offers contemporary Christian women a chance to study the lives and legacies of 52 women in Scripture. Some, such as Eve or "Lot's wife," are prominent and well-known biblical figures. Even the lesser-known women--such as the daughter-in-law of Judah, Tamar, who disguised herself as a prostitute--offer provocative and fascinating stories. What shines through in this well-written book is the authors' great respect for these gritty, intelligent, and occasionally flawed women. The authors briefly tell each woman's life story in an enchanting storytelling voice, helping readers to see how these ancient stories still have meaning centuries later. The book is well-organized, offering a woman's story for every week of the year, as well as a week's worth of structured lessons and reflections. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A book of Inspiration
I ordered Women of the Bible because I've heard so many wonderful things about this book over the years. I ordered one for my mom and me.We both are getting so much out of it and growing in our walk with the Lord. The book focuses on the women who made such a difference in there lives leaning on the Lord.It was also a great book on just being able to relate to someone from the Bible who is a woman. The parts that have impacted me have been on women who were struggling with fertility. It was nice to know that they were dealing with this issue even back then. This is a must read for anyone wanting to grow and learn more about the Bible.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Good for Group Study
I am currently leading a Bible study group using this book and I agree with the reviewer who stated that the questions do not lead to much discussion. The questions are kind of odd, like When in your life have you succumbed to _______?Then all the ladies just sit and look uncomfortable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
This is the most unique study book I have ever read in my entire life. I love this!! It tells you where to find the story---gives you a written story---asks you questions---suggest neat ideas and gives you prayer ideas. It even gives you the history of what it was like in their time! This book is so unlike the other study books I've read. I have a lot of trouble following a lot of study books b/c its just information, although interesting, it's hard to keep my attention. The way this book is written really kept me going--I absolutely fell in love with this book. I didn't follow the everyday planning although that is an option (it puts the days of the week at the top) I usually did one week in one night since each day was so short. But the short was great for when I was in a hurry for something. I loved this book, its fantastic and absolutely worth more than every penny spent. ... Read more
