The best of the available choices
I wasn't looking forward to the task of shopping for a new Bible because it seems the older translations are continually being done away with in favor of what are presumably "more accurate" or "more current" versions.Since I prefer the NAS translation, I felt this Bible offered the best of the available choices (and I scoured the internet for days looking for every available choice!).
A high quality Bible
This Bible seems to be of high quality. I've only had it for a few weeks, so can't comment on the durability, but it does appear to be well made. I like the single column with the wide margin, as all the notes you write will be on the outside of the page. Unless you have an extremely wide margin on a 2 column Bible it is somewhat difficult to write on the inside of the page. The paper quality is good, but not great. I would prefer the pages to be slightly thicker to eliminate bleed through completely, when using a liquid highlighter or writing with a pigma micron pen in the margin. I use dry highlighters, and the pen bleed through in the margin is minimal.

Great Family Bible
My review is the only review here that specifically refers to the Stampley Family Bible rendition of the RSV. The other reviews are referring to the RSV translation only.

A Great Publication
The NIV Large print center column reference is a great addition to the Bibles that are available today. There are not many truly large print Bibles with center-column references. The print size is 11 pt. which is very easy on the eyes. It's also nice because there are not study notes that can be so distracting. This Bible allows you to discover God's truth for yourself through use of the references. This is the Bible I got for my mom who has not been unaccustomed to reading the Bible, but she finds it quite readable. The only other comment I would make is I notice the NIV language uses softer langauge with less powerful words than the NASB. But for easier readability this is a great Bible. Nice Translation
I started reading the New Living Translation while working through an upper level course on Greek exegesis. I was simply looking for a version that emphasized a sentence-by-sentence translation as opposed to a word-for-word translation (because I was required to do this type of translating for my assignments). I was pleasantly surprised with the NLT. It is a very impressive work, and makes for very smooth reading. The translation team also made the wise decision to translate the dates in the text into their modern equivalents. So, whereas previous translations might read that a certain event happened in, say, the twelfth year of a certain king, the NLT will (based on historical data) read that it happened in "586 BC" or "on April 22nd, 722 BC" They have also done the same thing with other forms of measurement (including currency, weight, and time). This makes the events seem much easier to relate to.
NLT is understandable.
I recomend this product to help study Gods word. The giant print is great for folks with some vision problems. I am a king james reader mainly, but NLT is a good study aid.

Highly Recommended!
This bible is an excellent edition!It is a wonderful learning tool with it's easy to read scripture and illustrated maps and landmarks.It is a great visual aid to help one understand the journey of our biblical ancestors.It also has wonderful color illustrations of the New Testament and the life of Jesus, including a beautiful section on how to pray the rosary.I purchased one for my niece for her birthday.It makes a wonderful gift!

Not approved by Vatican because of inclusive language
I was given a copy of NAB by a friend and did read some chapters.Like the reader above, I got to "Hail favour one" which is quiet different from what I remember from reading another bible as well as the rosary.To me, it is not the same as "Full of grace."This is but one instance.The commentary left me in doubt at times.Well I did a google search and found that a few years back NAB got rejected by our beloved father (Pope John Paul) because of inclusive language.Do a google search for Richard John Neuhaus and NAB for a review.Any other book and I would compromise but not the bible (the word of God).So after some due searching as well as looking at EWTN review I think I am looking towards the Navare or Ignatius.Hope that helps.

Good Translation, easy to understand, and nice-looking too
This seems to be a decent translation of the Bible, though I am no biblical scholar nor do I read ancient Greek or Hebrew.But I can tell nonetheless that they didn't go overboard on any kind of political correctness in the translation, for instance.You can tell it's not a corrupted translation while at the same time, it is brought up to date without being oversimplified.It contains several pages that explain the translations.Plus, a copy of the Apostolic Constitution if you're really into Catholic history and the Church.

Nothing particularly Catholic about the Old Testament
Here is Isaiah 7:14 in the Protestant King James Version ... "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold a VIRGIN shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanual." (my capitals)
Beautiful Bible and an excellent version all in one!
I just recieved mine yesterday and how beautiful it is! Truly remarkable when you consider its only 50.00! Most Catholic Biblical scholars agree that the Revised Standard Version- Catholic edition (RSV-CE) is the best version for Catholics.

Excellent Bible!
Let me start by saying, I am not attempting to review the Bible here. The Bible is the greatest book ever written and the unequivocal Word of God! I am a reviewing this printing of the Bible.
Simple, Clean, Useful
I await the Platinum edition of this Bible. I bought the Gold edition and found it simple, straitforward and easy to use. The gold edition is bonded leather however and very thin at that. The KJV by Zondervan
I like this Holy Bible because it does not have the pagan symbols theNelson and other publishing companys place on and in the Bible. The trinitycan't be proved. The cross was a tool of death. Idols of the cross, thefish, the trinity and many other symbols are to be avoided if we are toworship the true Jesus Christ. The modern translations i.e. NIV and RSV arenot the word of God! Nice illustrations
I bought this book online, site unseen and it is one of best purchases that I have made for my son.The stories are biblically sound and the illustrations, although not the greatest (like say Ashley Bryan), are nice reflections that help bring the story to life.Beautiful companion to the Bible, Illustrated Especially for the Children of Color (Which is actually a real bible that can be purchased in either King James Versions or New International Versions) ...
