An excellent introduction to modern Bible studies which shows how Roman Catholic faith is consistent with, and can be enriched by, modern Biblical analysis.

A New Approach Accompanied by Helpful Insights!

Very valuable sorce of Biblical studies
This study Bible is a definite must for anyone studying the Word of God. Since it contains the Greek, Hebrew, and Aramic definitions of words in the Bible, anyone can now get a true understanding of the real meaning.

super super Good
Slow and Steady - I can no longer speed thru the Bible, it now takes me several minutes to read a single verse. It's amazing the amount of information/knowledge I am now able to glean from the Word, lovely. The bible has come alive to me in a new way. This is a great tool and I would recommend you all to get a copy.

Clarification of NIV/Morning Star
If you look up the name "Lucifer" from the KJV version in the Strong's concordance, it is no. 1966 which means 'morning star' as well as 'Lucifer' and one other meaning. The NIV translators merely chose a different but still accurate definition--probably to help achieve copyright ability. They did not change the meaning of the text or capitalize the words 'morning star' as they do when it applies to Christ in Rev. 22:16. Please do check it for yourself. ... Read more

A good Bible Study for "now"
I live in NYC (just afew blocks from the WTC) and my bible study group has been using Intervarsity's Lifeguide series for the last few years. Some of the studies have been pretty basic (especially David), but this book really resonated with us right now. Read more

Not bad at all
I had to get this study Bible for my Biblical Basis for Missions class at my university.I've been using it off and on since.It's a very good Bible.The notes take a passage-by-passage approach and are broken down very nicely.The layout is wonderful as well.While I am not a big fan of the NIV translation (having taken Greek, I don't find it to be very accurate in some places) I can tolerate it for the kind of stuy Bible this is.
excellent contents, poor quality
This Bible contains some very useful study aids. The study notes are based on paragraphs/sections, rather than individual verses. For each paragraph/section, two types of commentaries are provided: "There and Then" provides background information; "Here and Now" helps readers apply the messages of the paragraph/section to our daily life. Most notes are adapted from the corresponding commentaries in NIV Application Commentaries series.

I have been reading this Bible for the past month for class and also just for personal study and am definitely enjoying it. By God's Grace
This study was truly a blessing to me.I strongly encourage anyone looking for a devotional Bible study or a way to spend time in God's Word to get this book.In the first few chapters Kay Arthur gives you some foundational teaching about the law, sin, and grace.This is not your usual devotional.Kay has you going directly to the Word for yourself so that you can discover truth for yourself.I found myself wondering why no one in church taught about the grace of God.I thank the Lord for showing me His grace in providing this study.Now I know I was living by Law and as result I was living beneath my inheritance--under the curse of the Law.Walking in God's grace means that I am totally dependent upon the Father for everything.Discover truth for yourself and get this book.If possible start a bible study with some friends and family using this study.But remember to do it all standing firm in the grace of God.Be blessed.

amazing GRACE
Satan would love to keep us under the law,but God sent His Son to free us from the law and it is by Him that we enter into Gods grace. Gods'blessings do not depend on my performance, I was wrongly declaring that I wasjustified through the cross but that justification was maintained throughthe law. Kays book has guided me into a deeper understanding that throughJesus we are not only saved from the condemnation of sin but we are savedfrom the POWER OF SINNOW.

God's grace is so much more than I could have imagined!

Clear and Simple!!
I have reviewed the NCV Inspirational Bible another time but wish to highlight several points again.The Inspirational Bible stays by my bedside except when I take it to church.The design of this bible is excellent.The font is clear and large enough to read easily unlike many other Bibles.The NCV text is smooth and simple but refreshing when you just want to absorb the word by actually "reading" large sections at a time in proper context.The Inspirational notes often hit home and are written by an assortment of christians, most of whom are well known scholars or christian leaders.The only impovement I would recommend would be to offer a copy with sewn binding for durability.The recently released Devotional Bible is a revised edition but I like the original better due to its larger and clearer font and its Topical Concordance which is lacking in the revised edition.I love this Bible so much that I own about ten copies- 5 paperback and 5 hardcover.Some of these are for gifts but I always like to have a few extras around because I wear mine out every two years and need to replace it.Max Lucado is the editor and did a great job.Enjoy this Bible!!!!

Overall I am very happy!
So far I have been very pleased with this Bible.I love the notations and study guides included - great inspiration.The only reason I do not give this 5 stars is I have a difficult time finding the chapters, I think this is because of the heavy paper inserts - when you thumb through you automatically stop at these pages.I also wish it were available in NIV or NKJ. I seem to be the odd ball in Sunday School reading from this translation.

Awesome Study
Great study---I have always enjoyed the teachings of Kay Arthur. Understanding many (but not all)of the facets of God, His names shows He cares for me in evey area of my life. In studying the Names of God, I can now pray and believe using specific names knowing that God is my salvation, peace, provider, healer........

A disappointment
This book is a study of the names of God.However, I found some of the commentary and discussion points a stretch - discussing sexual abuse when studying the account of Hagar.

Kay style of teaching allows you to discover the truth from Scripture for yourself instead of taking her word for it. A good layman's introduction to Bible study
At its most basic level, good Bible study does not require a seminary education or work in original languages.Verkruyse writes a readable step by step approach to Bible study.Basic tools, such as a concordance and commentary, are introduced and explained.For an individual or study group wanting a simple introduction to sound Bible study, this book tops my list.For more in depth study into genre of writing, historical milieu, complexities related to original languages, and such a much more detailed text would be needed.

A must have for any teacher or student of the Bible.

One of the Best One Person Study Bibles
I usually use study Bibles that were put together by a team of scholars so that you are not getting just one man's opinion. But of all the study Bibles that were prepared by one person, MacArthur's is probably the best. It's not because of his dispensational premillenial viewpoint, it's because his comments are right to the point of what the verse actually means. Even the shorter comments usually provide something to chew on.
MacArthurs Study bibles are the best available
Having had 4 previous study bibles, I can confidently say that the MacArthur Study bibles are the best. He has faithfully sought to reveal the scriptures using faithful hermeneutics.His study notes are essential for any student of the bible. I would probably by the NASB version now that it is available if the costs were comparable, but the NKJV is great and much less expensive.

No perfect man-made study Bible...
I write in reply to all who criticise MacArthur's work as being one-sided in his commentaries. Well, they are right; but so is MacArthur.

The Perfect Bible!
This is the perfect Bible for any serious bible student.Included is the entire Strong's Concordance as well as the excellent commentary from Greek scholar, Spiros Zodiates.
Key Word Bible, New American Standard Version
This is one of the most handy and comprehensive study Bibles I have found.You don't have to carry around Strong's Concordance or a Greek Lexicon with you.This is very good for Bible class studies both in or out of the class.
Great Reference Bible
I already own the Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible:King James version and found it an invaluable study bible. The New American Standard translation is considered by many biblical scholars as ther best translation available today. That coupled with the key word explanations, better than average concordance and lexical aides make this a very good tool for studying the word of God. ... Read more

"A seminary education made as user-friendly as a devotional"
As a teacher, I have always encouraged that everyone should experience a study-trip through the WHOLE Bible at least once in their lifetime. Of course, the excuses were usually a 'flat tire' in II Chronicles, a 'brain-fuse blown' in Leviticus, or the dreaded 'TID (terminal interest deficiency) syndrome' somewhere down in Numbers! Now Larry Richards has made every excuse against WHOLE Bible study obsolete! Easy to read and understand and often profound!
This combination devotional and commentary is excellently written.Richards' scholarship is reliable, and his insights are very often profound.I strongly recommend this book to all Christians, whether youare brand new in your relationship with God or have been walking with Himfor many years.

My Very Favorite Commentary
I like this book so much it's my favorite gift to give graduates - and they always come back to me and tell me how useful it is. There are so many different ways it can be used. I've used it as a reference for teachingSunday School on certain subjects or on certain passages. For my personalstudy, the short devotional sections are perfect for morning, then I do thelonger study on the same passage as my evening or weekend study when I havemore time. The many different "reading" plans included in thefront provide different ways of reading through the Bible each year. Plus,the Personal Application and Quotable sections for each day are greatsummations of the text and short enough to stick with you for the day.Richards' definitely has a God-given knack for getting right to the meaningwithout wasting a lot of words doing it.
