The Beginning of a Needed Dialog
This book is one of the most interesting summaries of the need for a dialog on what religion has brought us.Whether you are a believer or not, this short, concise and well written book will hopefully be a stimulant for assessing what one believes in the face of overwhelming pressure to subscribe to one religion or another.It is a calling for accountability for in how we live our lives, and not to "give it up" as they say to a higher being - as if you were an actor on a stage.This book will also lead you to question whether religion has brought more suffering to the world or less.

Harris tries to be brief, but misses
91 pages and you're done.Sam Harris does his best to get to the point: Christianity is false and everyone should stop believing it right now.
Oh, the irony
God, save me from your followers. And while you're at it save me from their equally intolerant detractors. These people cry out for an end to religion because it is bigoted and intolerant, but they have no problem with their own intolerance or calls for an end to free speech. They would overturn the First Amendment if they had their way. I wonder what would come next, midnight arrests at the homes of believers?

Great Book
I was given this book as a gift and have really enjoyed it thus far (only 2/3 finished). It speaks to feelings that all women have and helps explain that it's normal and ok to feel certain ways. It also talks about hard issues that not everyone has gone through, but how to get through them. I would recommend this book to anyone woman looking for a good soul searching read. It really touched me.

Great Great and again Great
For me that has trouble reading the bible in any translation - this has truly been a God send.While on my daily 1hr 15 min commute in the car - you get wisked away by the message of God's words.It truly helps me put an image with the things that I have read in the bible.
The Most Ambitious Bible Project to Date
Finally.Not just a reading or recitation of the Holy Scriptures but a re-enactment of them.The words leap and dance off of the page due to the passion infused into every word.What a wonderful project.This is indeed a sight and sound generation.Try getting kids to sit down and read a book these days.Impossible!But now we have The Bible Experience.It's packed with more stars than a blockbuster movie.Although the cast is entirely African American, it makes no difference because when God speaks, he speaks to every person.

An Honest Perspective of Chrisitanity
I can understand why some people would not be able to relate to this book or think that Don Miller is not devoted to God. But, for anyone who has ever wondered why they believe in God, anyone who has ever questioned God's existence or, more importantly, anyone who has only seen horrible examples of Chrisitianity, this is a great read. It's an honest and fresh approach to Christianity and spirituality. His stories are funny and his writing style is engaging. I think it's fine time that someone wrote something honest about Chrisitianity and God. I think too many Christian writers market books that offer Jesus as some sort of fad-diet, just call on him and all your problems will be solved. Being a faithful follower of Jesus Christ is a difficult walk and being a good example of God's love each of every day is hard work. Everyone wants to act like it's so easy to believe God all of the time and believe every single word of the bible. Don Miller points out in each chapter the scrunity that we are under as Chrisitans (real Christians--not religious people) because so many people that proclaim to know God have done such awful things and promote ideas that are not of God at all.
Leading People to the Person of Jesus
As a Christian who was choking on "churchy-ness" I was refreshed by this book and how relevent it is in reaching out to today's culture. I guess its "controversial" as I read in some of the other reviews, but that surprises me, because it seems like a great tool to use in reaching people with the Good News of Jesus Christ, who may not otherwise be receptive...and to opening up my own eyes to LIVING a LIFE that is really A LIGHT in the world and not just "doing church". Jesus is real and He really does "happen" to people and change lives. He is LIVING and ACTIVE and very RELEVENT to people today.

"Spiritual, Not Religious"
It's a phrase I hear all the time from people who call themselves Christians without caring for the Bible or attending church.I've always thought it an infuriating phrase, because it sounds so good but it really means "I'm a dead Christian, if I'm one at all".Because I had this idea in my head, I was a little wary of the subtitle of this book:"Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality".

A Must Read for EVERY Woman.
This is a must read for EVERY woman married or single who desires to have a better relationship with the men in their lives.We all have men in our lives husband, father, brother, son, friend or coworker with whom the relationship is worth improving.

One book of three books I wish my own wife would read and listen to the advice of For Women Only, Dr Laura's Proper Care And Feeding, and Paul & Sandy Coughlin's Married But Not Engaged

It's a short book people, it won't cover every last detail of life as we know it...

Huge Disappointment
I bought this book as soon as I saw it because I have always loved Robin and her deep passion for being a mother.I started reading right away and couldn't believe how this book has little to no substance.I'm not really interested in how she met Phil and where she worked, we all have these stories.I thought this would be more about her convictions and devotion to her family.Instead I was bored, not interested and quickly realized this book was an ego boost more than a helpful read.I have yet to finish because it is so difficult to trudge through.

More Fact, Less Opinion Please
There are many areas of this book where this brilliant scientist documents science correctly and accurately, but unfortunately Dr. Collins also tries to pass off a lot of erroneous opinions as fact.Some specific examples follow. Great Book!!!
I have thouroughly enjoyed this book, although i could not give it past three stars.
Required Reading for Fundamentalists and Atheists
This gentle, well reasoned and insightful book should be required reading for all fundamentalists and atheists.I'm a Christian and since I hit my first biology class at age 13 I've wondered how to explain to all the folks in my denomination that they were wrong about evolution and that denying evolution was really a slap in the face of God, denying one of His most amazing acts because they don't like those nasty evolutionists.To believers he says, "The consequence (of being anti-evolution) can bring ridicule on the church, driving sincere seekers away from God instead of into His arms."On the other hand, those nasty evolutionists ought to read it as well.To them Dr. Collins says, "Keep in mind that the pure water of spiritual truth is carried in those rusty containers called human beings, so there should be no surprise that at times those foundational beliefs can be severely distorted."Yes, both Christians and scientists can be buttheads.Don't let that stand in the way of the truth.Read this book.(Did you hear me, Kansas State Board of Education?) ... Not Your Father's Catechism!
A few weeks before this catechism was released, one of our parish priests said, "We read The DaVinci Code, but we don't have time to study the catechism. There's something wrong with that." He also said every family should own a copy of the catechism. For adults, this new offering from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops would more than fill the bill. While the underlying doctrine of the catechism remains unchanged, this version, like others published since 1992, goes beyond a stripped down question and answer format. As an adaptation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, this adult edition is arranged in four sections: creed, sacraments, moral life, and prayer.

I just received my copy of the United States Catholic Cathechism for Adults and am looking forward to studying my way through it in greater detail during the coming months.

A good place to start reading about leadership
Leadership books remind me of cooking, there are a finite number of common ingredients that make up the majority of dishes, but there seems to be an infinite number of ways to combine and present these ingredients.
Not so innovative
Maxwell's concepts of what a leader is is quite accurate.However, I don't think he needed to spend over 200 pages to define what a leader is.That's what this book came to be: one long, repetitive, obvious definition for leadership.I didn't see these as laws so much as nuances of what he'd already said.

Check It Out
The Faith Club arose out of the rubble of 9-11, as three young mothers living in New York City - a Muslim, a Christian, and a Jew - agreed to meet together to discuss their differing faiths and how they might learn to live together in peace.

Read the Book !!!

Another Prophetic Disappointment
In "Epicenter" Joel Rosenberg provides the background information that drives his novels about the Middle East and the end times.This nonfiction book will grab readers' attention due to its analysis of current events through the lenses of politics and economics.However, Rosenberg insists that a third lens of biblical prophecy is necessary in order to truly understand what is happening in the Middle East today.But is Rosenberg's third lens properly focused?Has he understood Ezekiel's prophecies correctly?

Joel Rosenberg a former Jewish convert to Christianity seems to have the most uncanny grasp on recent modern events. His Jewish background gives him a greater than usual empasis on old testament teachings and prophency. When the fiction books he was writng began to come true after he wrote them he and his associates were surprised to say the least. I saw him in a seminar relate the events of 911 that eclipsed the writing of his book The Last Jihad. Then he stated his next fiction book came true while he was writing it! Now he has released a "non fiction" book! We must keep an eye on the events unfolding, and if indeed we see things happening that this book forcasts not only will it prove its prophesy, but will certainly as he says change our future. i think the jury is still out, but these events indeed bear careful scrutiny and watching, and if proven by time demand a Christian response. ... Buy a book on probability instead
This book is built around the idea "I wish it were true = it is true".While this book has innate appeal to those looking for meaning in their lives, if you're looking for a firm foundation for understanding coincidences in your life (i.e. intellectual integrity), you'd be better off buying an introduction to probability.

This book is a MUST read!!!!
If you've ever had that feeling like you were invisible...and wished just one time there was a signal that let you know you were on someone's...anyone's... global positioning system...there is such a signal. It's called a God wink. This book tells you how to find them and tap into them and make them work for you. The author is witty and funny and brilliant at weaving stories together that make you think "Hey, that's me he's writing about!"
Renewed Inspiration & Upbeat Reading
If you are looking for something to lift your spirits and make you aware of all the wonderfilled things around you, this is the book for you. It hleped me focus on the little angel messages that are put in my path each day that I wasn't aware of -- the author's upbeat, enthusiastic style of writing is infectious and encouraging and much needed in these perilous times. One more book to help corporate America
Oh my, one more motivational speaker, one more book about helping corporate America pad its pockets while its workers are supposed to ignore the core greed and put a smile on their faces and be Freds while the big shots benefit. Sorry, this just doesn't resonate with workers today who see their "profit centers" being sucked dry by the big home office and they are supposed to chin up and be a Fred regardless of the way the big boys (and ladies) are destroying the company they work for. Let's hope Fred is still practicing the Fred Factor when he shows up at WalMart or Dollar General looking for a job because his work has been outsourced, his branch consolidated or his job merged with three others.
