3-0 out of 5 stars A New Look at Jesus
Very interesting presentaton. It is a translation of texts that you do not find in the Bible.
4-0 out of 5 stars Finally some new Information
I found this book was very thought provoking. Finally some new information to ponder. If all you want is more of what you already knew, this probably isn't the book for you. The last Gospel in the book gives you a very different slant on things. Wish that we could find more books that give you something other than the same old thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful resource
This is a great resource that finally lets people see for themselves what the Gnostic writings are about: blathering nonesense removed from historical context. These writings would not inspire an elementary student of religion. They reveal a totally different religion that did not inspire the majority of it's readers. These books went out of circulation long before Christianity was legal. There was no power structure in place, only the plain sense of average people who said, "What?" when they read these and "Wow!" when they read the first four gospels, written more than 100 years earlier.I'm glad to finally be able to see for myself that all the hoopla is just that. This version is readable and accurate. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books I've Ever Read on Jesus
From a Catholic standpoint, one of the best works I have ever read on the relationship you want to have and should have with our Lord Jesus Christ.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Help in Studying Christology
Phillip Yancy does a superb job of bringing the reader face to face with Jesus Christ from a fresh perspective. As Pastors, we must understand the culture we live in to minister to that culture effectively (in the worldnot of the world).Yancy effectively views the life of Christ from thatperspective!

5-0 out of 5 stars Get to know the Christ that died for YOU!!
This book, by Phillip Yancey, has really touched my heart. He expresses with such impact the Jesus that died on the cross. He talks about the Beatitudes in a way you may have never thought about before. He is not shyabout talking about his own sins and how he personally approachestemptations.Read this book if you want to find the only physicaldescription of Jesus in the Bible. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Get It Now
I rarely, if ever, make such an urgent plea about a book; but Kreeft has given a panoramic view of the entire Bible brimming with the insight of a man in the grip of a faith that is on fire. For Catholics, the book is great because it covers all the books that we recognize as part of the Old Testament and because the Catholic perspective is evident everywhere. As a graduate student in Biblical Studies, I am grateful for Kreeft's giving me an overview that re-energizes my studies and never lets me forget the forest for the individual trees. Thanks, Prof. Kreeft.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of the Bible
This book is a great overview.Gives an easy understanding of what was going on at the time of the writings and their meanings.Mr. Kreeft is also loyal to the Church and so one knows one is getting the real deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings the Bible to Life
This is a wonderful and popular exposition of the Bible that explains its life-changing wisdom. It is remarkably fair and balanced with respect to all Christian viewpoints. It certainly does bring out the cold hard facts; e.g.: that Jesus is the only true God; that sin, judgment and Hell are real; that all sins need to be repented of and turned away from; that Christianity is a supernatural fact; and that there is both objective truth and objective value (p. 219).

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Structured and Simple to Understand.
Having read 5 various books on this subject of the Kingdom of God, Mr. Roberts book was the most organized, structured, illustrated and understandable. It became the foundation for my own series on the Kingdom.A great first book since it lays the foundation necessary for understanding the more in depth books such as: Announcing the Kingdom and According to Plan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but Excellent Tool to tbe Introduction of Biblical Theology
For anyone interested to know how the 66 books of the Bible fit together to point towards salvation in Christ, this is a great tool to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Biblical Theology
I think this book is a an antidote against wrong spirituality and hermenutics which is the science of interpretation; understanding God's Will, Prayer and true worship, patience, hope and spiritual growth. Why did I put all together? Because once we know God's 'correct' Plan than we can have 'realistic' hope for life and therefore we can have realistic hope. Realistic hope helps us to pray realisticly. Realistic prayer helps us to understand God's Will and therefore we can have realistic submission, obeying God and His Word. This is a foundational book that everyone needs to know if they care about Spiritual Life. I think this book is capable of creating a right spiritual atmoshpere where true spiritualty can grow. This is book is a concise 'Biblical Theology' in the realm of Theology. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great gift!
Thirty years ago How to Study the Bible for Yourself was published. Now there is an edition written for teenagers. Its content and tools will help the teen study God's word in a practical and meaningful way.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why continue to be deceived...
Tim LaHaye, Jerry Jenkins, and others in the Pre-Trib circle, such as Ed Hindson, Tommy Ice, Chuck Missler, etc., continue to put forth the same deceptions that Hal Lindsey popularized decades ago.The notion of a pre-tribulation rapture is foreign to scripture, it is foreign to the teachings of the early Church, and it is grooming the Church for destruction through ignorance and lack of preparation for what is really coming. These men are novices and not prophecy "experts" or "scholars" by any stretch of the imagination; they are those who tickle the ears of gullible Christians. Why continue to be deceived?Tim Cohen, in his excellent book, "The AntiChrist and a Cup of Tea," provides biblically sound and testable evidence to show that the coming AntiChrist is known NOW.Not only that, the same author (Tim Cohen) has now put out the strongest presentation on the whole issue of the rapture EVER offered to the saints of God in Christ: "The REAL Rapture".If you really want to know the truth about the timing of the coming rapture, then you need to hear Tim Cohen's "The REAL Rapture" (based on a volume in his forthcoming "Messiah, History, and the Tribulation Period" series (see Prophecy House's web site, prophecyhouse dot com, for details on these items).

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal devotional Bible
The Life Application Study Bible, available in many translations including NIV, NLT, and KJV, is the number one devotional Bible on the market, and one that more spiritual-minded Christians will appreciate. Avoiding too much historical analysis, it can focus solely on spiritual topics and, of course, Biblical applications for your life. It is thoroughly evangelical, but never fundamentalist (from my observations, at least). When used with a historical/critical study Bible like the New Interpreter's Study Bible (see my review; available only in NRSV), one has an excellent, basic Bible study and devotion set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Bible
The study notes give a good insight into cultures of the day. The maps are frequent, useful and easy to understand. The "Harmony of the Gospels" is a wonderful addition that should be in all Bibles.
5-0 out of 5 stars Study Bible - THE BEST
I have had my life application bible for 3 years and I LOVE IT. The commentaries, the cross references, the introductions to each book are so helpful and stimulating. My daughter, who is 16 yrs. old, wants her own.I own and use the NASB version but she prefers the NIV. Regardless of the version, life application brings things into realistic perspective. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Explores topics and asks questions to bring the text alive
I use this book in a Bible study through a Calvary Chapel. This book is really great. The questions provoke you to dig deeper into the text than you normally would. There are explanation portions that give you historical context, customs, grammer, and the like, all to help explain what a passage means. In addition to helping you get "Bible smart", the book also provokes questions that really make you reflect and search your heart to draw you closer to Jesus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Guide!
Of all the study guides I have used, this one is the most comprehensive. It finds the Greek and Hebrew meanings for you, it does the research, it breaks up the book of John in uderstandable and flowing sections. I recommend this along with any of the Shepherd's Notes guides through the Bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a Bible Study
My bible study is currently working their way through this amazing little book.I am already in awe of the impact it has had - the lessons learned, the in depth studies, the conversations started.I would definitely recommend this study of the book of John because it delves deep into the book, it asks pertinent and thought provoking questions, it brings John to a level where it personally effects your life and your actions.I hope to use other books in this series in order to better understand and look with clarity and purpose at the Bible. If you are looking for a guide to the book of John, this is it! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Dated, but so what
This is one of the best books ever on biblical studies, including the Old and the New testaments. It's written in clear simple language and covers just about everything you can think of, including some things you wouldn't think of. If anything, I'd like to see the book expanded. Asimoz skips over some chapters where I wish he had spent more time. And his traditional view of the bible seems outdated nowadays. But if you're looking for a place to get started, Azimov is a must.

1-0 out of 5 stars Consult an expert
Reading Azimov concerning the Bible is like reading Billy Crystal about brain surgery! If one want's good info, read something by a noted Scripture scholar - like Brown or Bruggermann or Frick.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent work!
Asimov is one of the most rounded intellectuals in our century. It is amazing how much he knows about the bible given all his other pursuits. In fact, because he knows so much, this book is all the more useful, for he approaches the subject of biblical exegesis from a very broad standpoint. He will tell you the background to various practices, customs and events in the bible and the etymology of many English names and words in the bible. Furthermore, Asimov had a Hebrew education as a child and so he explores the meaning of the original Hebrew throughout the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Needed resource for every Protestant Christian
A well-written and organized study of the historical-gramatical methodology in simple terms. Once again Dr. Sprould takes a somewhat difficult and complex topic and brings out the essential elements important to all Christians. A must have for understanding the common reformed protestant approach to interpretting scripture.Every bible teacher and preacher will find it useful in their ministry for digging deep into the text and brining it out for others. It is an immensely helpful work for everyday bible study as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Biblical Literature and Hermeneutics

I was shocked when I came to the review titled "Only the few know scripture" by "buttonguy".He couldn't have possibly read this book.Sproul is saying the complete opposite of what this reviewer posted.

5-0 out of 5 stars a very good literal translation of God's Word
No translation of God's Word is perfect. Each one has its flaws. Each one hopefully casts new light on God's message to us (translation is inherently interpretation). So it is with The New Revised Standard Version. There are both flaws and moments of revelation.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent translation. Elegant English.
For my money, this is the Bible to use for prayer and devotional reading. Its language soars with majesty, unlike so many "low" translations today.5-0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFUL BIBLE EDITION

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Bible For The Today's Young Adults-But A Few Drawbacks
I have always tried to read the bible whenever I was in motel like Motel 6 or Holiday Inn and could never get myself past the 1st page because of how boring it is. Now as a book, this translated version of the bible is in plain and simple English that is easy to understand and is done in a way to make each and every story "from the words of god" (provided you believe in that) an interesting short tory that I have loads of fun reading. As a guide to understanding the Christian religion better and its application to the real world, it does an excellent job how each story is related to the everyday things but the problem I have with it is that often they talk about an everyday application that is in one part of the book that is in another part of the book. Another problem I have with it is that it doesn't really quite well explain the short comings that Christianity has in front of modern science other than GOD said so, which is good for already devout Christian, but for recent converts like me, I want it to make sense. But still, this bible is worth every penny and it would make a great gift to a young adult who is confused about the meaning of Christianity. And thanks to the good people at Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and Drew who gave me this book, things are truly clearer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book but wrong Title
This book is fantastic for those who want to understand the underpinnings of the Christian religion, its connection with the Hebrew roots and the origins of evil. But the book does not really focus on demons. It focuses on Torah and the roots of faith. It is very well written and full of information you would not get at the local church.Well researched and worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
I received this book yesterday in the mail and having been reading it straight through since then. I've read alot of books about the nephilim. This book is so much more then that! There is so much information in this book things that I didn't know before! It is very well written! You will be blessed by reading it,I look forward to reading Book 2. Thanks to the authors for sharing these truths with us!

5-0 out of 5 stars For Such a Time as this.....................
God told Daniel to seal up the book until the time of the end. Since we are now in this time, these authors have successfully opened the book like never before. We are in the last days and they are in fact just like the days of Noah. I have never believed that aliens and UFO were just that in the conventional sense of the word. I knew they must be demons or some kind of demonic manifestation. Now I have proof and from what better source than the word of God!!!! Thank you Mr. Klein for once again exposing the enemy and helping us in these last days to know truth from fiction. Many blessings from The Father to you and yours. I'm sure we will meet on the other side! If you never buy another book in your life, please buy this book and ask God for revelation in your life! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Reviewing the workout DVD "Moving to the Word" included in this book
I recently bought this Bible study and haven't done it yet, but I wanted to post a review of the workout DVD that's included in the book. It's called "Moving to the Word", and it's presented by Body and Soul ministries in conjunction with First Place. The workout is 30 minutes and is predominantly cardio work.If you're a veteran of workout videos, this one may seem to be quite simplistic to you.The set dressings and routine are very simple, the leader's moves are a bit robotic and the sound isn't great, but there are some good things about it.Because if its simplicity, there's no extra equipment required. This would be great for anyone-- like someone who's new to working out, or an experienced person who just needs a simple routine, possibly even to take on the road with them. There are 3 castmembers on screen, each doing a different level of difficulty. This is great to tailor the workout to your level.I was able to get a great sweat going by choosing the level that was right for me.The soundtrack is comprised of memory verses that members learn in the First Place classes. This not only broke up the routine nicely into short segments, but it also was great to recite powerful scripture during the workout. When I am weak, HE is strong! One of the neat features of the DVD is a track where the leader Jeannie Blocher takes you through all of the different steps to help you learn them. While an experienced person might see these moves as elementary, this track is wonderful to have for the novice participant.I wish more DVDs had this track available!Kudos to First Place for producing yet another tool to help their participants see success!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Bible Study
I have to say this is one of my favorite First Place Bible Studies.
