5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of great pictures
Nearly every photograph in this book evoked a memory, whether good or bad. Some were disturbing, as they were meant to be, but many were uplifting. And it was neat to see how the cover art had changed over the years, and how Life's priorities have shifted. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hit of the Holidays
All of our friends and relatives commented on how much they liked these cards and because each one is different, we enjoyed picking just the right card for the recipients. My husband insists on creative cards each year because he's in a creative field.I'm not sure how we're going to top these next year!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXQUISITE!
I purchased these cards at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and wish I had bought at least 3 sets.Every card I put into an envelope I want to keep for myself. Each card is truly a little gift!Additionally, I am glad they say Happy Holidays because I have many friends celebrating different things this time of year.I am going to buy additional sets just to have (or give as gifts) for next year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, thoughtfully-made cards!
I love these cards and am purchasing a second set since the first set was so popular and wonderful to give away!A previous reviewer had given it only 1 star because they said the cards don't say "Merry Christmas" and has nothing about Christmas inside. The latter is not true.If anything, there is a slight Christian slanton a couple of the cards: one with baby Jesus, one with a lovely pop-up Bethlehem and star, and one stained-glass window one depicting the Virgin Mary and baby (and maybe a few more I can't think of right now).A large majority of the cards can be given away to anyone of any religion celebrating the holiday season.

5-0 out of 5 stars Meaty enough to read this year and next
This is a great devotional book, and I am not usually one that finds devotionals set up like this very interesting. It is set up to have a reading each day during Advent, Christmas and through to Epiphany, and the readings are all written by people like C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L'Engle, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, Kathleen Norris, Annie Dillard, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, etc. This is no, "What was the innkeeper thinking" sort of advent reading book.It is thoughtful and insightful and has a lot to say that ties into the preparative nature of advent, that is the preparation for the messiah's return. The writings vary in length and type from scholarly writings to musings to poetry or introspection. The readings are meaty enough, too, that you could certainly read them this year and again next year and they'll still be good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much more than Advent and Christmas reading.
I really shouldn't write a review yet, because I haven't finished the book. I'm doing so in hopes that people will buy the book in time to use it this year. This is an excellent book of essays, a few poems, and some sermons. There are some very "heavy hitters" in the mix--check out the table of contents. I have only read through December 2 so far, but it has been a very rewarding journey just a few steps down the path. I particularly love the piece by Karl Rahner (1904-1984), a German Jesuit and theologian. It is very cutting edge theology for its time and even for today, and it reads beautifully and powerfully. Henri Nouwen is also excellent, along with Sylvia Plath's poem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Watch For the Light
I have not read the book as it is to use during Advent and Christmas and the readings begin on November 24, 2005. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gold Mine! A must have it!
This book is like finding a gold mine. We have been using it for home school and my husband (pastor) also uses it to teach about the Holidays in our ministry. The activities offered for children are simply wonderful and easy to follow.
5-0 out of 5 stars As the title says, it is a "Family Guide"
If you are coming around to understanding the extrabiblical nature of the Roman feasts, you're probably looking for a way to wean your family off of those dialectical, pagan/Christian festivals.Perhaps your spouse isn't "on board" yet because you're both unsure of how to break it to the kids without leaving them feeling deprived.
3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Homeschoolers, Others Look Elsewhere
This very thick book will give you the information you need to begin celebrating the Biblical holidays at home. Written primarily for Christians, it gives background on traditional Jewish observance as well as Messianic interpretations for believers in Yeshua.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nourishment for the human spirit, using rest to return to delight
This book arrived yesterday, and I stayed up late reading it last night and this morning. I could hardly put it down. Many of the thoughts hit me as so profound, that I had to pause to think before I could continue reading.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not the TRUE meaning of the Sabbath
While this book gives practical examples of how to rest and find renewal by observing the Sabbath, it does not touch the true meaning of the Sabbath. As another reviewer mentioned, the value of this book was highly diminished for me when the author failed to emphasize the singly Judeo-Christian roots and values of the Sabbath.Instead, Muller takes a worldly approach to the psychology and therapy of observing the Sabbath and reflecting on life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Slow Down
This book is a exploration into the concept of "Sabbath" and its importance in world religions.Muller describes Sabbath rituals in the Jewish faith and discusses scriptural references to the Sabbath (from Christian and Buddhist, as well as Jewish texts), especially those concerning why it is celebrated at all.He argues that we all need time set aside as a Sabbath for rest, happiness, and consecration. He embellishes the text with poems and stories about the Sabbath practices of friends. Many of the chapters close with a "Practice" section, in which Muller describes actions you can take to put the ideas from the chapter into practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Primer for Christians, Other Faiths or Even No Faith
This is a primer on the most gracious acts we can participate in:giving and forgiving. It is for Christians as well as those of other faiths or even no faith. The author sets out to explain first who is God and explains the difference between God's reality and his image. He then "...examines how to conceive of and live out two basic human practices, giving and forgiving."
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful lessons from a man who's walked the walk
In this practical and profound book, Volf gets down to the nitty-gritty of what it means for us as Christians to forgive those who have wronged us. Simply put as he states in his book, "We forgive because God forgives. We forgive as God forgives. We forgive by echoing God's forgiveness." While this is one of those deceptively simple lessons that takes me a minute to learn but a lifetime to master, Volf has given his fellow Christian brothers and sisters some tools to get us started on this journey toward reconciliation. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The Comedy Hit of the Season!
As a librarian I am very familiar with Sylvia Browne and can attest to the popularity of her books.I don't read her myself but many of my patrons do and if I can find room on my shelf for Ann Coulter Sylvia Browne is more than welcomed.Unlike Ann Sylvia is not evil.
5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this book
As usual I totally enjoyed reading Sylvia's book.I find this one spiritually uplifting.I always feel amazed by how much Sylvia know's and how little I really do know about life.

"Christmas in a joyous celebration commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. This Christian holiday is rich in traditions such as decorating pine trees with ornaments and lights, exchanging gifts among friends and family members, and singing classic songs created for the season. Christmas is not *just* a festive occasion for people on earth. Christmas is also celebrated in Heaven on December 25th in the presence of Mother God and Father God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." - From the book

With handmade ornaments to go with this book and allowing children to hang one on the tree each night, it was the highlight of Christmas for our family.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Advent Jesse Tree:Devotions for Children and Adults to Prepare for the Coming of the Christ Child at Christmas
This is a wonderful family focus for the Christmas season. Each day the children are so excited to have their "Jesse Time".One child gets to find the package numbered for that day under their Jesse Tree and another gets to open it when the devotion is done.I hope this will be a tradition in my family for generations to come.Several ladies and I have made the ornaments and provided complete sets to go along with their purchase of this book and it is truly a magical way to teach children of God's promises and love and the true meaning of Christmas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great used with ornaments!!
Each year a group of ladies (25) gets together and picks a day's devotional and makes an ornament to go along with that day. Each person makes 25 of their ornament and then everyone gets together and exchanges. Finally, you have a complete set that you can use along with this great devotional book!!Each day has a devotion/symbol and there are readings for children and adults. My children unwrap the ornament for the day and then we read the devotional. It makes a wonderful family time!! ... What a wonderful, nostalgic look at Christmases past.I was surprised to learn that some gifts and traditions came into being 20 years before I was born (1954), and because I lived in Germany until first grade, there were some toys, decorations and treats I never knew existed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth having
I saw this book at a bridal shower for a friend of mine, and I immediately went and bought one for myself. It is a great book for those of us who like to journal or even scrapbook, but don't really want to take the time to do big projects. This book is perfect. It doesn't require a lot of time. In fact, there is only one picture slot for each year, but I always cut and paste a few more. I have also started putting the "Christmas letter" I send to everyone behind the picture. On the opposite page there are just a few quesions about what happened during Christmas that year. I only take it out at Christmas, and all of my family and friends love looking through it. this is one of my favorite things to give as wedding gifts or as a Christmas gift to newly wed friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Made and continues to make a great gift!
I received this book as a wedding shower gift.I look forward to recording 20-years of Christmas' together.I liked this idea so much, that I also gave the book as Christmas presents to my newlywed sister and her husband and my newlywed brother-in-law and his wife. Now, we will all be able to record our family Christmas' as we all start our Christmas' as married couples with new family members.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not For Lazy Holiday Types Like Me
Admittedly, I'm a big holiday geek, and I thought I'd save some of the inevitable end-of-the-year indulgences in new decorations by actually making stuff myself.Cool stuff, with nails and tree branches and things. This book, it turns out, is pretty, but it's more about glue guns and glitter. The crafts are not particularly suited to sharing the creative impulse with children. It's for adults--among whom it seems I should not be counted. But, if you've got lots and lots of time to glue, this is your ticket, your flying carpet, your Great Holiday Testament.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" if you like to try a little bit of everything
This book has a place of honor in my collection of various craft books. It is packed full of absolutely gorgeous crafts that you would proudly show off in your home or give to your friends and loved ones. What I particularily liked about this book is the wide representation of different craft techniques from all (and I mean all) types of needleworks to working with gourds, floral crafts, folk art painting, food crafting etc. My main craft passions are crochet and floral crafting but as I already have many books for these two crafts, I was looking for something that dabbled in a little bit of everything and this book did not disappoint me. The stunning projects will inspire you to try your hand at other types of craft techniques no matter what craft you are most passionate about.4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful crafting and decorating ideas
This book is filled with beautiful ideas and inspirations. It's well laid out and the directions are clear and easy to follow. It does however contain a lot of recipes. If I wanted a cookbook that's what I'd buy.I find many of these wonderful books end up using recipes as ways to add to the number of pages. Many of recipes are nice but I have my own collection of holiday recipes and recipe books. If you like recipes mixed in with holiday ideas, great! If you don't, this book is still worth having as the craft section is super ! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars When Christmas Preparations Overwhelm, Try This Book
At Christmas time, the busy wife, mother and career woman kicks into overdrive. She feels the need to maintain her usual roles while bringing the magic of a perfect Christmas to her family, work place, and church.
3-0 out of 5 stars a little too cliche
I thought this book was a little too cliche, because it tends to go with the stereotypes of women and men's traditional roles and attitudes towards Christmas. Also most of the ideas are rather obvious and don't promote any significant change.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book withstands the test of time
I am delighted to see that Robinson and Staeheli have updated their material in this new edition . . . I've been using this book as an inspiration for workshops and talks since it first came out in the early 1990's. Consistently, people are empowered to claim their OWN approach to the Holidays after working through the concepts.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Can't go wrong with this purchase!
This is a wonderful little devotion book for Advent. I have become a huge Henri Nouwen fan.....he always shares his journey and is transparent...I especially enjoy the Advent Action given with each devotion.....the daily devotions give just enough without being overwhelming, allowing me to reflect on it all day. Redemptorist Publishing always offer heart warming devotionals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a holiday cookbook!
This is a GREAT book! It has many, many different and interesting recipes that are not the same-old, same-old holiday fare. The suggested menus and wine pairings make it simple and undaunting to throw together a small or large party. And I love that a lot of the recipes list make-ahead components. The recipes included in this book are ones you can enjoy all year round. Don't wait for a holiday to try them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Many Wonderful Recipes
This book has many different takes on traditional holiday food plus many unique recipes that one might not usually consider when preparing their holiday feast. There is even a section that includes ideas for edible holiday gifts. I am a subscriber to Cooking Light magazine and own many of their other books, and the recipes never dissapoint. Everything I have made has been delicious. There are so many good recipes I had trouble narrowing down what recipes to make for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Eat Smart, Be Fit, Live Well."
Lushly photographed and filled with stunning winter holiday recipes from breakfast and cocktail parties to the Big Events themselves, this cookbook features lighter versions of many old favorites and some great ideas for reducing the fat in your own recipes.Ingredient substitutions, decorating tips, make ahead meals, and even wine and food pairings are included, as the editors make the holidays a joyful time, foodwise, even for those on special diets.Clearly printed nutritional information appears with each recipe so that those on special diets, such as cardiac patients, can choo
