5-0 out of 5 stars Very well written
This book was very helpful to me.Raymon Buckland explains the altar set up and candle color for each ritual in detail for those who are just learning candleburning rituals.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple... maybe too simple
This book gives you a great intro to the easiest magick you can do... but it doesn't have enough useful spells/rituals. These spells do take time mind you... so be patient and devoted. Great addition to your library, and also great for a new comer to Magick and Witchcraft.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fiona Horne and "New" Wicca
Fiona Horne is by far the most modern and hip Witch to cut the cord from the old, stodgy traditions. Her books serve as an inspiration to modern women looking to redefine femininity, sensuality and empowerment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Disregard the image she presents.
If you take away the Mad Mad House, the Def FX, the general need for media whoring, you have a well written, easy to read book.
4-0 out of 5 stars interesting and easy to read
i wouldn't say this is the most serious of books on this subject, but i did find that it had a lot more to say than some books on the craft out there. the emphasis is definitely on the "hip" part of the title (it's actually Witch: A Magical Journey, A Hip Guide To Modern Witchcraft), and consequently is a bit light and fluffy in places, but it does go into the darker side such as hexing which a lot of books seem to be afraid of even though it is a part of the craft and should be acknowledged. fiona gives a some great guidelines for beginners on how to structure spells and what incense/colours/materials to use. i would agree with some previous comments that she would make it appear that you can dive straight into performing spells with little or no preparation, and i thinkthis book is lacking in a chapter or two on the work that needs to go into the theory side of things and practice BEFORE jumping in head first. a fun book with some interesting parts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life
I read this book in the midst of discovering the myriad of hidden truths about african history.Being African American myself I have spent many years trying to undo the backwards education that I was subjected to about my culture in this country by doing extensive research.
5-0 out of 5 stars An unforgettable book
A riveting and beautiful mystical story that encompasses many lessons that we all could learn from. I could feel Malidoma's pain in his struggle with the evil criminals that complicated his life. This book is absolutely wonderful for all who appreciate the mysteries of existence but it also has many very important lessons that the Africans in America and the diaspora would do well to take notice of.In my opinion, this book should be in schools.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed blessing
Malidoma Some's book is truly a mixed blessing! He writes about his personal experiences and life journey, about the spirituality of his people and the contrasts between the African Mindset and the ideas and pre-conceptions of Western people/white people.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Narby's Wild Ride
Jeremy Narby's The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge, started out decently enough with Narby reminiscing about his days doing field work in the Amazon Basin and from there he goes over some interesting ideas regarding DNA and Serpent Myths but then all goes down hill as he suddenly becomes a follower of Intelligent Design and makes an all out attack on Darwinian Evolution and Science itself.
4-0 out of 5 stars The DNA/World Serpent Enigma
"The Cosmic Serpent" is doubly themed. One theme is that of the symbol of the creator serpent (or twin serpents) as the source of knowledge and of all life itself. The other theme is that of DNA which in our modern western world-view is the source of all life and all organic information. These two threads are wound about in a spiraling narrative like the double helix of the DNA molecule or the twin serpents found in the timeless myths of cultures the world over. 5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating and thought provoking journey
This fascinating and thought provoking book chronicles the anthropoligist's journey of discovery in South America with the local peoples and with the hallucinagenic ayahuasca. He explores interesting similarities between modern science and the knowledge of ancient healers and cultures.Thought provoking to the last. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Start to a Spiritual Path
I do not understand how anyone could find Mr. Meadows works to be disrespectful to Native Americans. He states in his books that he has collected his knowledge from numerous sources and is not locking in a "single" aspect of this knowledge, but several. Native Americans (and I am half Choctaw)should rejoice in more Americans learning Native ways. After all, most people no longer have respect for our planet or the other life forms here & the planet and animal & plant species are all suffering from this.Mr. Meadows works are a great start to understanding this and helping find the "Spirit Within".He also explains in his books that Shamanism is a Practice,a way of life, not a religion.I think it's a good read and well worth the time and money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Plastic Shamanism
I do not recommend any of Kenneth Meadow's books. He is what many American Indians would call a "plastic shaman," in other words a fake. He fails to mention that the beliefs he has taken are mainly Lakota beliefs, in other words he practically generalizes all American Indian tribes as if they have all the same beliefs. Which is definitely not the case. One of his sources is Harley Swiftdeer. Swiftdeer was officially kicked out of the Cherokee nation because of making sacred beliefs become public.
5-0 out of 5 stars answered a lot of my questions about life!!
This book is excellent! It DOES come after a companion book, though. I've been a Wiccan for over 10 years, but had never read a book so "dead-on!" It let me realize that the Native American community and their views are-in MY opinion- right up there with what people like Einstein and Prof. Hawking have to offer! Trust me, folks....they know what's up with life, and why we're here!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars From the eyes OF a Lakota
I will try and refrain from being too harsh here, however...I feel this needs to be said from someone who actually knows something about these things.(I am Oglala Lakota) First off, if you want to know the TRUTH about Lakota spirituality, don't buy a book from some European out to make a quick buck. This book, as well as his others are filled with pieces from this and that, speculation and cliche' and has little to nothing to do with the truth. (The Lakota people do not, nor ever have had "Shamans") This type of book not only serves to perpetuate the disintigration of our sacred ways, but it also dishes out lies, misconceptions, and other non-truths. I highly suggest that this, and books like it, not be supported so that those who are truly searching, won't have to be loaded down with junk, before they find the true treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn About Yourself
I was first introduced to this book almost seven years ago.I was immediately intrigued by what I read, and ever since, I have had a vast respect and interest in Native American philosophy and teachings.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...
Mr. Meadows is known for his "Shamanic" genre writing, though this is the first book of his I have read.I wanted to explore some of the history of earth based spirituality, and with that expectation found this book very disappointing.Mr. Meadows paints incredibly huge strokes, covering thousands of years of spiritual life, shoe horning it into the Medicine Wheel, and doing so in the space of 90 pages. He makes statements that begin like Aristotlian proof theorems, and spin into grandiose New Age spiritual idealisms. His descriptions of what "Amerindians" (now I am really getting ill) believed or didn't believe no doubt has Native Americans everywhere rolling on the floor or in their graves.Meadows tries to do way too much and is ill equiped to handle his subject matter, both academically and poetically. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars consciousness meets reality
i have read all of castaneda's works, and at the time believed them to be nonfiction. i have since come to my senses, but appreciate castaneda's value all the same, albeit with a lessened cult-of-personality affect.
2-0 out of 5 stars For Semi-Aware Semi-Spiritualists
Carlos Castaneda picked up some adherents who saw him as a mystic philosopher with access to the great mysteries of knowledge, but he was more of an early version of today's self-help hucksters who are convinced that their contrived allusions to poorly-defined spiritualism actually make them messianic gurus. The main problem is Castaneda's supposed teacher Don Juan, who is deified as a pure and noble shaman who disdains the spiritual emptiness of modern western society. But Don Juan's character is laughably thin and inconsistent, as the righteous shaman of the small Indian village somehow voices all of Castaneda's westernized opinions. If Don Juan truly existed, which is highly doubtful, he would have been one of those "gurus" who drew gullible drugged-out hippies into his cult to provide him with free stuff. But actually, the same could be said about Carlos Castaneda. He either made lots of rubes fall for his half-baked spirituality, or convinced himself of the reality of his own imagination.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Synthesis of Don Juan`s Sorcery
Clearly one of Carlos Castaneda`s best books, it offers a phenomenal insight into the world of Don Juan. Several of Castaneda`s practises and experiences he was subject to during his jounery to become a "man of knowledge" find an elegant and thrilling explanation. This particular book is quite remarkable in that it questions the very foundations of perception and relates stalking, intent and the dreaming position to the assemblage point. Also contains colorful accounts of Nagual Julian, petty tyrants and their use by stalkers. As against some of the previous accounts, the entire book is peppered with anecdotal accounts magnificantly weaved with moving accounts of the sorcerer`s spirit and the constant quest to "break the barrier of perception". On the whole,an exhilarating and thought-provoking read, one of the very best of Castaneda`s. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Four-fold Way
I like the book better than the CDs. There is a nice breakdown of information and a simple to understand text.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for 4 Fold
I got this book as recommended reading for a workshop I took on the heart. It contains a wealth of information presented in a warm, stratighforward way. There's so much in it to help guide you to opening yourself up where you need it and to expanding your knowledge of yourself. I practice some of the exrciese and meditations daily and refer to it often.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a mish-mosh
This book is a New Age muddle of incorrect assumptions about buddhism and various aboriginal belief systems. This author doesn't get ANY of it quite right. She takes bits and pieces from different religious or philisophical traditions and sticks them together with bits of cellophane tape.I've seen collages made by kindergardeners that made more philisophical sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Truly Wonderful Tarot Deck and Book Set!
I purchased this Tarot Deck - not so much for the use with Tarot readings but after reading: Vodou Visions - as you can use the cards as a focus point in your rituals - both books are highly recommended to those interested in Vodou... I was pleased to see that the cards can easily be used as a Tarot Deck as well - the information inside is so well done and so easy to read that it makes previous knowledge of the tarot easy to use with this deck (if you read the book) There is only 34 pages to read, before you get to "each card meaning" and at the end of that section there is another (Approx. 40 pages), which is a "How To" section and very enlightening... There is also information at the back about each meaning for each card to make things easier for beginners...
5-0 out of 5 stars A Journey of Mind and Soul- Voodoo Tarot
Martinie and Glassman have created a most incredible Tarot Deck and companion book. A MUST have for the seasoned Tarot reader as well as the beginner. The deck itself is a joy for its artistic merits alone. The insight that the authors have into the archetypes and mysteries of the deck make the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot exceptional. Intuitive, functional, and revealing are just a few words that come to mind in praise of this Tarot. You will not be dissapointed in using the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Creation and Highly Accurate!
The deck/set came quickly. It was wrapped and in excellent condition. This deck is very unique unto itself. A beginner to 'voodoo' or 'hoodoo', I have read many reviews and am still learning. My experiences were that they were accurate to my question-concern. They act in a different way than a 'normal' tarot. They have correspondences to the original tarot, and references some of the cards to the original tarot. This is a must have, finely produced card/book set. There is even a companion book which I'am yet to purchase. Thanks for reading. I would say to anyone, they 'should' get this set if they are looking for a 'fresh' approach to an age old tradition. Very Unique and well represented. The artwork is wonderful as well, and they will fit into a standard size tarot bag. I have a 'day of the dead' bag I use and the cards seem pleased. ... Read more

I am just starting this path, and this book explained in an easy but detailed manner how the gems and rocks and planets and colors all work together in spells and other majic.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book was the first of its type...
Since then, several other authors have followed in Cunningham's tracks. Books that combine folklore and ritual use, mythology, magick, and healing are excellent additions to libraries on crystals. This is one book that every practitioner should really have. It contains several nice lists of cross-references and many folk names for stones may be found therein.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wecome Addition To Your Magical Library

5-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Miss A Trick
I found this book as inspiring as it is informative. Judy Ann Nock packs a vast amount of information into a very small space and does so in an entertaining and comprehensive style. Aside from the ancient look and feel of the book, the text, itself, seems magickal indeed. There is a section in the book entitled 'Book of Foundation', but I would have to say that the entire book is an excellent foundation from which to begin one's journey on 'The Path'. I have found the book to be indispensable and keep it alongside my own Grimoire to refer to from time to time. It is so well written I would recommend it for beginner, intermediate and advanced alike. This author has a gift and I look forward to more of her insights and teachings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for a beginner to the Craft
Most Wicca 101 books are more theory than practical application. A Witch's Grimoire breaks out of that mold with room to spare. Judy Ann Nock takes a novice Wiccan through the steps necessary to create a truly marvelous Book of Shadows from the paper to the entries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read; Great Tool
This 384-page almanac is chocked full of articles with daily info on moon phases and other needed info. I like the listing of the days instead of trying to cram all the info into a calendar form. The articles or chapters, are all well written and can be read within a half hour for most so it is easy to pick this book up, pick a spot within the book and just read. You don't need to start on page 1 and probably shouldn't! I'm now going to look for 2006 just to read all the articles.

5-0 out of 5 stars A spiritual interpretive guide to the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz and his interpretation of Toltec practices
Beyond Fear: A Toltec Guide To Freedom And Joy from the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz as recorded by Mary Carrol Nelson (Founder of the Layerists in Multi-Media) is a spiritual interpretive guide to the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz and his interpretation of Toltec practices. Inclusive of guidance through the basic elements of Toltec wisdom and the spiritual practice, tools for transformation such as exercises and ceremonies, an imaginary journey to Teotihuacan, information on the life after death, prophecies about the evolution of humanity, and biographical information on don Miguel Ruiz and his training with his curandera mother, Mother Sarita, Beyond Fear is provides the reader with an insightful understanding of the message and philosophy of Ruiz. Beyond Fear is very highly recommended reading for students of Toltec philosophy, metaphysical studies, those seeking a more innovative interpretation of life and spiritual ideals, and most particularly those who have studied from the Four Agreements.
1-0 out of 5 stars Oh lordy..... No No No
I truly don't understand these positive reviews!!
3-0 out of 5 stars Avoid The "Comfort Zone"
First, I must state that I enjoyed The 4 Agreements. I read a few more of Ruiz' books and those of his "disciples" afterward, but did not share the same "connection" with the other books. I prefer the works of Thuen Mares with regards to the Toltec Philosophy. Mares remains tough and true to his belief and does not try to make the reader "feel good" or comfortable. I do not prefer writers to make the reader feel good. I want writers that challenge the comfort zone, and warn us of our plight should we stay in the "comotose society". These days too many paths have been watered down with warm, fuzzy, huggy material. Often I feel Ruiz books' took on that feel.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Thought It Was All Gone
This book is truly a unique text, in that it relates to the reader the more esoteric religious oral traditions of a culture that is quickly vanishing. In fact, I was amazed at the length to which the Hopis views were restored for this book.Admittedly, some parts of the book seem to become lost in detail (in the more literal portions of the book), but even these are quite interesting when accompanied by the more 'philosophical' world view of the Hopis.A worthwhile read...highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humbled beyond words by the shared insights.Nani Linder Author University Of Life A Cross Cultural Approach to Leadership
This work is a tribute to the wisdom of the ancient ones and reveals in striking detail the future of humans.Serious scholars would do well to study the ancient Indian, Mayan, Aboriginal Societies. You shall find knowledge beyond measure. The lifestyle of the Hopi in keeping with prophecy is to be lauded and so I honor you now publically.I am truly humbled by the strength of the messages and the caring of such a wonderful people.Seekers of truth would do well to look deeper and see beyond the obvious. This is ma'a!
