5-0 out of 5 stars Better all around, than others I've read.
This was the first of a few books on Sigils and Chaos magic, that i had read. It is far easier to read and work through than those b peter Carrol, and I have had some success with the performance and charging of sigils. Just be aware of thet fact thet you need to be specific about what you " wish for " you just might get it with a twist If you leave things vague.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Substitutions
Practical Sigil Magic by Frater U.D. is a book for people interested in achieving results. It is forthright, intelligently presented and does not meander from its objective.5-0 out of 5 stars Just Wonderful
This book is superb, and it is a travesty that something so groundbreaking is out of print.Frater U.D. has performed a great service in making Austin Osman Spare's works comprehensible to the average magickal practitioner, such as myself. All one needs for this type of magick is a pen and paper, as well as the desire to perform a five-second ritual to implant one's wish into one's subconscious. And I haven't even mentioned the fascinating Alphabet of Desire! It is fair to say that this publication has changed my entire way of thinking about magick and mental processes.Believe me, in case of fire, this book is what I would save first. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Native American Paths to Healing
Eagle Man (Ed McGaa) shares his knowledge of Lakota Sioux spiritual practices as a way to include everyone who wants to heal our world. He calls those who revere Mother Earth and want toensure her continuation, Rainbow People. He writes in an intimate way, as if talking with friends. He describes the meaning of the various rituals and myths and shares helpful information about how non-Native people may or may not participate. In addition to his personal journey and the sacred practices, he details techniques for building a sweat lodge, making a peace pipe and more. A fascinating book which has earned a place in my personal library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mother Earth Spirituality : Native American Paths to Healing Ourselves and Our World (Religion and Spirituality)
Easy to read and understand. Very "down to earth". A guide book to preparing the necessary items and tools of the Native culture. Very well written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interested in Native American Spirituality
If you're interested in Native American Spirituality then I would read most all of Eagle Man's books. He provides great insight into the Native American beliefs and customs.Personally I believe his books should be used in high school and colleges to allow others the opportunity to understand our Native American Indian brothers and sisters. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just started reading
I am a devout Christian. Even I don't agree with some of the teachings that Mr. Marshall talks about, I have a great admiration for him and alot of these virtues that Mr. Marshall and many of the Lakota who have retained their religion, practice. I find alot of similarity between the religion of the Lakota and Christianity. However, I strongly and still follow the Holy Bible and accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. However already the first chapter of this book has helped me a little in my faith and walk with God. I would not discourage this book from being read by christians, especially those whose faith is strong, because it might help alot of us in the Church to practice what we preach and what God Almighty Himself expects from us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Re-Read this book
The wealth of virtues discussed in this book through the legends of the Lakota tribe are presented in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.A wonderful book that is enjoyable to read, and educational as well. This book now sits on my top shelf, with the few other books that I re-read regularly. This is a place of honor, and speaks to the greatness of Mr. Joseph M. Marshall's explanation of the traditional legends, and their connection to modern life. You don't have to be a Native American to enjoy this book.Read it, and re-read it.See how your personality and character develops into something you never would have imagined!

Editorial Review

Author and illustrator Brian Froud offers believers a chance to consultwith the magical wee folks. Using a deck of 66 "oracle cards," believers conductreadings as if interpreting Tarot cards. Each of the cards features Froud'ssignature faery pictures. Some of the cards have specific faeries, like thenaked leaping "Spirit Lancer"--a feminine card that represents "self-expression,freedom, and exploration," according to the accompanying text written by JessicaMacbeth. Others are more abstract, like the "Guardian of the Gate," a blue- tinted card with splaying silver-white streaks that look like tendrils of faeryhair.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Labyrinth
I used to have this deck, it's amazing and beautiful and I've also noticed that Froud, who worked on Labyrinth, included some of the goblins from the movie in them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Oracle set I have
I have a number of Oracle card sets, this one is the best I have seen.In the way it is explained and the exercises that you go through to learn how to use the cards. I recamend this for anyone. Beginners will find it easy to understand and learn from and thoses of us who have other cards sets will truely lean to value this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstandingly Accurate
I picked up the Faeries' Oracle here on Amazon, and expected much due to all the wonderful reviews. The minute i opened the box i got even more than i expected. The art is beautiful, the cards are accurate, and the book is written in a way that is so simple to understand. Within 2 days of reviewing the cards, I was giving accurate and precise readings. I now have been practicing for well over a month, and a handful of the readings have already turned up true. Words cannot explain my love for these cards, and once people realize that the land of Faery is around them, they will get this unbreakable connection. I now KNOW that faery exists, and you the reader can learn how to use their advice to create a better life for yourself and others. To create a strong relationship between you and Faery just do these simple things.

Editorial Review

Shamanic healers view illness as caused by negative internal states--disharmony, fear, and soul loss. An illness may follow an external "intrusion" (e.g., bacteria), but the real problem is "the diminishment of our personal power or the holes torn in the fabric of our soul that allowed the intrusion to enter." The concept of spirit medicine, while foreign to most Western health practitioners, is familiar to indigenous peoples. A guide to facilitating self-healing, Read more

Who WAS this man? I also reccommend "The Illustrated Beast" by Sandy RObertson. Hope you all find your way to this mysterious man, who Lon knows wEll from study with correct Golden Dawn heritage lineages..If there's such a thiNg. Lon is quite a fair man, and Sandy Robertson's book should supplemenNT this..

4-0 out of 5 stars A definite improvement, but where did the Index go?
I still like this book. It really helps when you want to practice Crowley's rituals and go on the Thelemic Magickal quest. Errors are corrected and some interesting new material was added. Although the book doesn't do justice to the full depth of the rituals, as a starting point it is excellent. As a note of caution, I should say that Duquette is well known for watering down Thelema a bit and making it palatable for the masses. This book is a good example of that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Magick
I had read Duquette's earlier Illustrated Goetia, and I was impressed by that. I was looking for spells that would be easy for me personally to work alone. Another book that fit that category was Necronomicon Spellbook. The magick in this book gets more and more complicated with each passing ritual, starting simple and going to more complicated. An excellent and essential work for those seriously interested in Thelemic magick. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Unconvincing with a selective view of the research
Harris made a strong case for the beneficial role of the Hindu religion's belief that cows are sacred. The reason is because male draft animals are needed to plow the fields for next year's harvest, and cows are needed to breed the draft animals. Succumbing to temptation during a famine and killing your cow is like killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best academic books I've read
This book is pure gold. It eloquently explains the origins of culture by tying culture to the function it has for groups. It is absolutelty brilliant and accessible to the educated reader. I have recommended this book to all serious students of society. I'm a sociology professor and I have found it invaluable to my understanding of society and culture. If you're serious about understanding society and culture, you really must read this book. It's captivating and interesting, too -- hard to put down and entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive accomplishment
This book succeeds where so many other books have failed - Harris has written a scholarly book that's fun to read. What's really surprising is how little controversy this book has provoked so far.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Lesser Key--A medieval take on the original
Interesting compilation of medieval grimoire, etc., but the original Key Of Solomon would be even more difficult to decipher--having been written in ancient Hebrew on vellum scrolls.

I actually own three versions of The Lesser Key of Solomon, including this one so, I thought I'd give my opinions of them all.It might save some poor demonologist out there a few bucks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs some TLC from a good editor
This book seems to hold lots of promise when skimmed, but when I actually sat down to read it, I got bogged down in it very quickly. The first chapter seems like an extended foreword. The author makes some references to his travels in Central America, and some anecdotes from his travels might have livened things up quite and made the book more engaging, but no dice. The author seems to repeat himself a lot to no apparent end, and, most frustratingly, he does not provide a big picture before starting his slow slog through the details.
5-0 out of 5 stars It is like "Bible" for all "2012"
JMJ is briliant writer, even if i am not native English speaking, it is clear and fine to read it. Clear facts, perfect notes, great apendixes. You will return to it during your "2012" study. Checking the facts with other writers. JMJ have great own criticisms, so he point in text to ideas which are not clear and forward the reader to other sources to make own decision and present few of the major ones. I like this style, when autor find mistake in his own research and in next book he reflect and learn from it, make and explanation why and so on.
5-0 out of 5 stars *****
John Major Jenkins generously wrote an appendix to my book Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century, that really added a remarkable confirmation to my contact with a "dead" optics physicist colleague, and his telepathic communication to me about our End Time scenario. Indeed it was his scholarship that forced me to seek my own scientific answers to these spiritual questions: Does God Exist? Who are we? Why are we here? Where are we going? After immersing myself for 15-years into the academic disciplines of astronomy, biology, computer science, genetics, mythology, physics, psychology, medicine, sacred geometry, and theology, did I finally find the Rosetta Stone that deciphered ancient visions into modern wisdom--as had John Major Jenkins but only many years previous to my musings. I learned from him that we are becoming fifth-dimensional beings of light with third eye open, telepathic, psychic solar powers. That, moreover, I saw too now what modern astronomers define as Solar Cycle 24, ancient Mayan (and Egyptian) astrologers called shaman-priests portrayed symbolically as the Eternal Return of the Sun of God. That the End Time is our golden window of opportunity for transformation between the Venus transits of our Sun in June 2004 and June 2012. Although his book is extremely uplifting in tone, I describe the visions that I have been given to share with my readers with respect for our need to prepare for the "shift of the ages" and the overwhelming natural disasters to come. A runaway violent and weird weather oscillation cycle that vacillates between global warming and global cooling with Super Oceanic Storms that these thermal tug-of-wars will generate worldwide. Also explained is the melting of the polar ice caps by increased galactic and solar radiation inputs to the core of our planet, triggering the eruption of previously dormant undersea volcanoes. This process will slowly build in intensity as Jenkin's knows too, as gravity wave movement coincides with the earthquakes and tsunamis that will be devastating our coastlines in the USA--and elsewhere around the globe as in Indonesia in 2004. I in fact saw that the eruption of Mount Rainier will be part of this lengthy list of geophysical change events as electromagnetic "symptoms" leading to the North-South pole shift quickens. Notwithstanding these sobering events, Maya Cosomogenesis 2012 is not about doom and gloom forecasts. My insights are simply the result of having my third eye opened to our "flexible" future, given that enough of us awake and create our world anew. At a minimum, John Major Jenkins has written a fact-packed intellectual survivor's guide and provided a map for all of us sojourners planning on surfing knowingly into the Age of Aquarius: The Water Bearer of cataclysmic yet miraculous Earth Changes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!
I think that Wicca and Witchcraft For Dummies is an extraordinary book. It's full of credible information, solid suggestions for Wiccan practice, and engaging stories to bring Wicca to life for the reader. The author clearly presents the depth, beauty, and wisdom of Wicca.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK - not as good as I thought it would be.
Unfortunetly, the author didn't seem very interested in what she was writing. Even her intro was discouraging. I did like the history chapter though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Foundational Reference Work On Cross-Cultural Shamanic Wisdom And Practice
Mircea Eliade's foundational work 'Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy' is a massive 648 page resource work that was first published in '51. Now some fifty-five years later it's still the authoritative reference work on the history, beliefs and practices of shamanic cultures.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ian Myles Slater on Fifty Years and Still Going Strong
I agree whole-heartedly with the many earlier reviewers who have praised this extraordinary book. However, it has given rise to some controversies, and prospective purchasers might as well be aware of them. Given the richness of the volume, I consider them minor, but a chorus of praise invites disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and clear
I found that this book has lots of information, I think it will help me much in my spirituality.

3-0 out of 5 stars try elsewhere, first
Peter Carroll has some interesting ideas, but they are mostly poorly-written regurgitations of what Crowley and A.O. Spare already said before he came to the table.I would recommend starting with source material if you want an understanding of those two.Israel Regardie and Lon Milo DuQuette both write some more accessible interpretations of Crowley if you don't want to wade through lengthy pontifications.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mental Cancer
It may make you very sick, but if you fight it off, you may become very strong. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars review
"Paganism, also called neo-Paganism, is a new religious movement..." first sentence, Chapter 1, P.1
3-0 out of 5 stars Good broad introduction
This book does a good job of giving a general description of paganism as a whole. The authors don't go into very much detail about the different disciplines though; so if you are looking for information regarding a specific type of paganism (like druidism for instance), then you should probably look elsewhere. The content is geared towards people who have had no contact with pagans before. The Higginbothams are very knowledgable and they make excellent arguments for their points, but there are two criticisms that I have:
4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I've known Jim (River) & Joyce for over 10 years now, and I'm so happy they finally put to text some of the knowledge that I've seen them regularly share with new initiates into the craft here in their home-base of St. Louis, MO. I can't wait to see what they write next as they expand their writing into more advanced texts.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Wiccans, Pagans, Witches, and All Other Magical People!
This was one of those spur-of-the-moment purchases at Borders (you know, the book you buy practically unseen because your library is in need of new blood).I really didn't know what to expect from it, since flipping through it was somewhat confusing.I ended up buying the book on a Friday, and finishing it the following Tuesday. It went from being a book I never heard of by an author I'm vaguely familiar with, to a book that is my "go to" book for ideas, formulas, inspiration and everything in between, and Ann Moura has earned a spot as one of my favorite metaphysical authors out there.I, honestly, couldn't put this book down.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I own this book.I use it all the time in my spell craft. It has been very helpful to me in my search for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source for green witchcraft!
Ann Moura is my favorite "green path" writer because her information is accurate and experience influenced. This book contains all the information that a beginner would need.A very extensive book of shadows that gives associations, spells, both basic and some advanced knowledge. This book is the essetial building block for any who want to venture down this path! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Approach
I have been obsessed with names/their meanings/spellings ever since I can remember! By the time I was 10 I think I had 5 different name books and could rattle off to you what almost any name meant and various spellings for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Name Book That Goes Beyond Typical Traditional
This is the best book on names that are magic related that I have everread. I use this for creating stories and and for spiritual reasons. It is the only book I have found that is truly dedicated to names not related to theChristian or Classical traditions, but rather to Druid, magical, or Pagan names. It includes a whole bunch of origins that I had forgotten.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one for you
This book has all the names you need for whatever reason. I love it. You can't go wrong with The New Book of Magical Names. IT has a name for every need, water names, earth names, air names, fire names, and much more. She even has a listing of famous character names. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This book is as voluminous as its title, and no matter what type of magic you practice, or even if you just study it, it is an indispensable book with a wealth of useful intelligence on all Eastern and Western forms of magic. Bill Whitcomb also graciously provides contact information for areas that are not covered. Any serious student of magic can appreciate the expense of research time, and this book will help minimize the research, thereby allowing more time for your workings. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What every magician should have on hir shelf.
I actually read through this entire book. It's mainly meant to be used as a resource guide, but in my personal opinion, anyone who wants to use it for that purpose should read through it once to get an idea of what Whitcomb covers. It is one of the most in-depth correspondance guides I've read. Whitcomb also offers coherent brief explanations on the various systems he writes about. Whether this book is for a beginner or an experienced it has something for everyone and should be one of the few books any magician is required to purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference and Symbol Source
I loved this book because it is organized in such a neat way (numbers within systems) and because of the wealth of information it covers. The only disappointing thing is that it didn't go very deep into some of the systems I know I am interested in at least, such as runes or the ogham. However, it is undeniable that this is a necessary addition to the working magician's library, and shouldn't be missed!

5-0 out of 5 stars All Somebody needs to start into occult!
This is like occult for dummies, the information is so well explained and placed. There is sooo much to read in this very thick book. I love how he recommends certain books to research in the certain occult fields. If there was a occult 101 class I would bet the book required would be this book! ... Read more
