1-0 out of 5 stars Why continue to be deceived...
Tim LaHaye, Jerry Jenkins, and others in the Pre-Trib circle, such as Ed Hindson, Tommy Ice, Chuck Missler, etc., continue to put forth the same deceptions that Hal Lindsey popularized decades ago.The notion of a pre-tribulation rapture is foreign to scripture, it is foreign to the teachings of the early Church, and it is grooming the Church for destruction through ignorance and lack of preparation for what is really coming. These men are novices and not prophecy "experts" or "scholars" by any stretch of the imagination; they are those who tickle the ears of gullible Christians. Why continue to be deceived?Tim Cohen, in his excellent book, "The AntiChrist and a Cup of Tea," provides biblically sound and testable evidence to show that the coming AntiChrist is known NOW.Not only that, the same author (Tim Cohen) has now put out the strongest presentation on the whole issue of the rapture EVER offered to the saints of God in Christ: "The REAL Rapture".If you really want to know the truth about the timing of the coming rapture, then you need to hear Tim Cohen's "The REAL Rapture" (based on a volume in his forthcoming "Messiah, History, and the Tribulation Period" series (see Prophecy House's web site, prophecyhouse dot com, for details on these items).

1-0 out of 5 stars Unbiblical and bad writing make for one star
This book is so flawed in every which way, it is hard to know where to begin. First of all, we are living in the end times, and when Jesus comes, that's all she wrote, folks. There's no seven years, no Christians being zapped up, etc. This is our Second Chance on Earth. No tribulation. This book takes figurative visions and tries to apply it literally, and does it poorly. Reading this book made me think that if this was true, then what's the point of trying to be a Christian. Why not just live your life the way you want to, and then when people zap out of thin air, change your life. It's ridiculous and sends the wrong message. Plus, the writing is for second graders with no redeeming characteristics to it. But I really don't think the author's care at this point (seeing how many millions they've made printing lies). My recommendation is to read the bible instead of this series; then you'll get truth and the bible is probably shorter (and much better writing). Man, not even Kirk Cameron could save this train wreck.
2-0 out of 5 stars I can stand no more....
First, I listened to the unabridged audio edition. Its clearly missing a few scenes referenced in this novel. However, what I don't miss is the endless scenes of people falling to their knees, weeping, invoking God and tearing their clothes. The count choc-u-lah voice of Anti-Christ was ludicrous and painful to hear. The endless discussions of hacking, and reading lengthy sermons from Judah, and listening to Chloe whine and Buck cry. I honestly can read no more. I thought I could finish out this series, but the Desecration was the worst book I've read in the series to date. Carpathia cavorting on the back of the pig was the final straw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard To Put Down
Three is a psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns. They keep coming right up to the end.
5-0 out of 5 stars Life or Death
Kevin was driving home when his cell phone rang, but little did he know that this phone call would change his life.A man Kevin didn't know was on the other line and this man said "Hello, Kevin you have three minutes to confess your sin to the press or your car blows sky high."End Call.
2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best.
"Three" aims to be suspenseful and insightful. It is neither. The plot is ill-contrived and bland. The characters are thin - you never come close to caring about any of them. It is in parts ridiculous. The ending has been done time and again. If you're a hardcore Ted Dekker fan, or if you're a suspense junkie not concerned with quality, dive right in. However, surely there must be better pieces of work out there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy Man Surprises
Each month I write a short recommendation for our church newsletter. This book is my choice for November for it is one that will appeal to everyone. The answers from the holy man when I was sure he could not possibly come up with one for that person, delighted me. The best point about this great small book is that it does not focus on any particular religion, but is useful for all of us, including those considered "spiritual" for it leads the reader to recognize no matter how wise a person becomes, we still remain flawed and need such books to help us see this. I am about to purchased another copy for a gift.

First, I just have to say that I love this book!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars over a thousand kiddos can't be wrong...
I have given this book as a gift more than 100 times now.I often give it to graduates - both high school and college. As a teacher, I've had the opportunity to read this book to over a thousand students.Of course there have been students who didn't get it or who did get it and simply didn't like the book, but most (possibly over 80%) have enjoyed the story and learned something from it.I have also sent this book to people in some sort of trouble - jail or rehab type situations - and the gift has always been received with great enthusiasm.Personally, the book changed my life, as trite as that sounds.I keep hoping Oprah will discover and share it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars No More bad Girl??????????
I have read all of Ms Murray's novels. After a long wait a sequel to Temptation. At first I didn't like Jasmine as usual. Almost put A Sin and a Shame down but another book-club member was reading it also and convinced me to keep reading and I was really glad she did. What a great story about forgiveness and love. Nobody is perfect and most important people can and some do change.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Little Disappointed
Ok let me start off by saying Victoria is one of my favorite authors. My book club as well as I loved Joy, Truth Be Told, and of course Temptation.Seeing how I loved Temptation so much and I just knew this book was going to be good, it was ok.It was very predictable from beginning to end, and just really boring.Maybe I am just a real drama queen, but I was waiting on something more to happen. It was like ok now what when are we going to get to the good stuff.Don't get me wrong it had some drama in it, but it was all predictable.Maybe I will present it to my book club to see what they think.
4-0 out of 5 stars Jasmine is off the hook!
Ms. Murray has done it again with Jasmine.I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, but definitely recommend you read "Temptation" before reading this; so that you will get a very close-up view of how devious Jasmine is.Victoria Christoper-Murray is an excellent author of Christian-fiction novels and never disappoints.Jasmine will make you want to slap her one minute and then feel sorry for her in another.Pick up your copy today and you will enjoy! ... Terri Blackstock has done it again. This book made me think of the end of time...when we all must come together...trust in God for our needs and know he will provide as he says in scripture. What an awesome book and ending!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great second chapter to the series!
I really loved this next book and now can't wait for the third book in this Restoration series. In this book, services and functions improve a bit (using pre-computer technology) and the people become very practical.Concerns of left-behind children, etc. come into the picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A REVISIONIST BIBLE STORY
In the introduction to THE FIFTH MOUNTAIN, Paulo Coelho quotes himself by saying:"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it."This is something he believes with all of his heart. This is a profoundly religious attitude, and shows an absolute trust in God.Such a trusting attitude is especially impressive when one considers that Coelho's father dismissed his son's Personal Legend as insanity and had him institutionalized and subjected to shock therapy.Although as this revisionist story of the prophet Elijah demonstrates, it is not what "you" want, but what God wants you to want.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Fabulous Read from Coelho
I LOVED the Fifth Mountain as much as The Alchemist and The Pilgrimage. This story of prophet Elijah was particularly inspiring and has left quite an impression on me in the months after reading it.While I wonder "why" and "what if" questions in my mind, I am continually reminded of Elijah's struggles and his own quest to understand his larger purpose as Coehlo so artfully portrays it.Coehlo's signature simplicity made this a wonderful, easy read too.Very enjoyable & very highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read
Coelho's writing can only be described as Genuis.Hes a natural and will certainly touch your heart, mind, and soul.He inspired and motivated me with every word that he has written throughout the years.Word in a review cannot begin to describe the writing of this brilliant man.All of his books are highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Modern day prodigal son story
Return is the 3rd in the Redemption Series, following Redemption and Remember.Return focuses on the Baxters' son Luke.He becomes "disenchanted" with God and turns 180 degrees from the values of his family. As always, the interactions between the Baxter family members not only make an engaging story, but also teach the reader the importance of trusing God.This is my favorite series of all time, and I do read constantly! It evokes strong emotions in the reader, because there is bound to be someone's behavior or some life situation that really hits home.It is a book you'll never forget!Buy the entire Redemtion Series at once so that you won't have to pause between books. Here they are in order:Redemption, Remember, Return, Rejoice, and Reunion. And even after that there is a spinoff series that promises to be just as rewarding: the Firstborn Series, also involving the Baxter family but with some new characters and situations--outstanding!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect title and theme. Perfect novel...
I can't believe how true to life the issues are that the author's characters' deal with in her novels. No pain is sidestepped. No pat answers are offered. True healing and forgiveness are experienced. Consequences of sin are suffered. This is real life with a whole lot of hope. The resolutions made sense and weren't easy fixes. I got choked up nearly as often with this book as I did Remember. Also, I read the entire novel in two days (around working my full time job.) Wonderful read. I especially loved the contrast between liberal thinking and true faith. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent historic novel
The name of the rose is one of those books that when you start reading them appear to be somewhat boring. But it was definitely not. Life in monasteries during the middle ages is incredibly depicted, and Umberto Eco builds a story of increasing mistery page after page.
5-0 out of 5 stars "The Anti-Christ can be born from piety itself, from excessive love of God or of the truth."
Set in an Italian abbey in 1327, The Name of the Rose takes place during "the Babylonian Captivity," a seventy-year period in which the popes were French and the Holy See was transferred from Rome to Avignon. In this time of immense turmoil, monastic orders competed for influence, both temporal and spiritual. Some orders were declared heretical, and ecclesiastical trials for heresy reflected the struggle for power as much as they did the very real philosophical conflicts.Italian, French, and German emperors competed for political domination, and the often hostile relationships among the papacy, holy orders, and various emperors made monastic life anything but tranquil. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
All in all a very enjoyable read. I especially liked the feeling of time and place that this novel develops. Less interesting to me were the overly long philosophical musings or rantings of various characters; you get the feeling Eco was hoping to convey deep insight in these passages but they are generally pretty shallow. And loud warning sirens should go off whenever you stumble upon an entire chapter devoted to a dream or hallucination. You'd better hope to be in the hands of a master; if not, you'regoing to have to wade through pages of pseudo-meaningful drivel like what Eco offers in chapter Terce on Day 6. Ouch! He's a good writer, but not nearly good enough to pull off this type of stunt, which thankfully is attempted not too often.

The book was AWESOME. You will see yourself in each character.I could totally relate to Yolanda.I saw myself in the others as well, but Yolanda hit home for me.It's a good book for self-reflection and group discussion. You will not be able to put the book down. It is a MUST READ.

4-0 out of 5 stars Diva to Damsels in distress to Divas again.
Michelle Stimpson has written a masterpiece. She has expounded on the Bond of family, the power of Love, the destruction of the past and then the healing power of GOD to bring it all to fruition. She has left the characters open to a series of the Rucker Women and their men.I still would love to see more of Diane and Richards nephew??? These women all have their own issues and their own fears that stem from secrets kept, but you find yourself going through the whirlwind with them as it unravels and transends down Damascus Road.Gloria Mae still has some fire and wisdom to pass on, and now Yolanda and Kelan along with Mr. Livingston have a story of their own also.I received this book on Saturday and finished reading it on Monday, so it is a page turner and one of those books that once you start, you will not want to put down.Very well done Michelle Stimpson and I look forward to her next novel.

"Whatever the reason, I find that with each passing Christmas the story of the Christmas box is told less and needed more. So I record it now for all future generations to accept or dismiss as seems to them good. As for me, I believe." So begins the sentimental tale of romance and family that Richard Paul Evans went to a copy shop and self-published a few years back. Readers decidedly accepted the saga, spending millions of dollars and clamoring for more, so Evans wrote two more heart-rending episodes, Read more

This book started out being a book I would read whenever I had finished another book and had nothing to read. But, then I started getting interested in it, and I loved the last chapter. I cried when David died ; that was the first time I every cried over a book. It is a book for young adults, and older adults. The words were hard to understand, but after a while, I got used to them, and I know alot more words then when I started out. This book has many morals in it, and the writer has spent a long time on it. I am currectly wrighting a book, and it does take alot to make it interesting. This author deserves numerous rounds of applauses for this masterpeice!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The clash between modernity and orthodoxy
As a person who is interested in the role of faith in the modern world, I found Disobedience to be a captivating and thought provoking story. In chronicling the clash between these two worlds - Ronit's modern one full of unlimited choices and Esti's constrained world of tradition and rules - Alderman refuses to present an easy solution.Instead she uses each women's experiences and perspectives to highlight the tensions involved. She is not afraid to point out the flaws and repercussions of orthodox Judaism but she also paints a loving - to me - portrait of its wisdom. In the same way, she doesn't simply celebrate modernity as a perfect world of choice and freedom.
5-0 out of 5 stars Disobedientwith a Cause
Despite a few oversimplistic characterizations of the inhabitants of the provincial world of Hendon Orthodoxy, this book is brilliant. Few authors have captured the struggles of those of us who straddle these contradictory realities. Naomi Alderman has.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great talent with great promise...
There were many elements to Naomi Alderman's debut novel that I very much enjoyed. Her prose was great, she writes like a veteran whose been doing it for years.I loved how she switched view points throughout the novel so that the reader got a glimpse into the minds of each character.Lastly, I enjoyed how she began each chapter with a thought provoking biblical reference and explanation that was either very relevant to people of all religions or gave the reader insight into the Jewish religion. All of these ingredients came together to make Naomi Alderman an author that I will look out for in the future. However, amongst all this praise there is a downside.'Disobedience' failed to catch me right away and, in my opinion, in a short novel the story should hook you in the beginning. Also, again, in my opinion, Alderman didn't give the characters enough depth for the reader to really understand what motivated them.I am sure that as a new author Alderman will suss out these flaws and grow with time and I look forward to watching her progress. ... Her name meant "date palm," and like her namesake, Tamar hoped to survive the harsh environment she was placed in: to bend but not to break. Rubbed with scented oil and arrayed in wedding finery, 14-year-old Tamar is thrust into a world of abuse, betrayal, and disillusionment when she is given in marriage to an evil, idol-worshiping man. In the face of her suffering, she must make choices: Will she let her new husband, Er, destroy her innocence and corrupt her? Will she leave the religion of the Canaanites and embrace the God of the Hebrews despite the life of misery she is cast into? Or will she fall into despair and become as wicked as her husband and his brothers?Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets Weak Near the End
Warning: This review contains some spoilers if you don't already know Tamar's story. Rivers proves her strong writing ability in this book about Tamar, a woman victimized by the men in her life and who, in my opinion, is one of the strongest women in the Bible. At the tender age of fourteen, she is sent from her family to marry Judah's oldest son, who soon proves his selfish and wicked nature when he refuses to give her his seed and thus enable her to bear children (as a woman of the times, Tamar's one hope in life is to bear children for her father-in-law's household). After the sudden death of Judah's oldest son, Tamar is married to the second one, only to find that he is equally cruel and selfish. Before long, her second husband dies as well, and Judah, blaming her for both their deaths, furiously casts her out of his house with the vague promise that he will send for her in the future so she can marry his third and youngest son. After returning to her father's house in shame, Tamar spends the next few miserable years waiting for Judah to keep his promise and bring her back. When she is finally convinced that he will never accept her back to his house, desperation drives her to take the only option left to her: seducing Judah himself. She does this by disguising herself as a prostitute. Rivers' portrayal of Tamar's plight is wonderfully engaging and suspenseful. Tamar proves to be a woman of indomitable strength and hope who refuses to be kept down and Rivers has us rooting for her every step of the way. So why the absent fifth star? In spite of Tamar's strength, she crumbles at the end of the story. A few months after her succesful seduction, when she finds that she is, indeed, pregnant with Judah's child, word gets to Judah himself and, not knowing the child is his, he decides to rid himself of her once and for all by executing her for fornication. When she is brought to him to be executed, she secretly reveals to him that she deceived him by seduction and that he is the father of her child. When this happens, Tamar, for some unknown reason, goes from being a fierce wildcat to a sniveling mass by weeping and begging his forgiveness for her deception. Um, WHY? Judah let both his sons abuse her, let his wife practically spit on her, cast her out of the house in shame, then was about to kill her in one of the most horrible ways possible just to be rid of her! And she apologized to HIM?! Yes, he apologized to her, but only after she bowed at his feet and actually wept, "Forgive me, my lord." What the heck?! He was not her lord and he should have been groveling at her feet, not the other way around! She did was she was driven to and didn't even humiliate him like he deserved by making her deception public. I much prefer Liz Curtis Higg's version of Tamar, a bold woman who triumphantly laughed in Judah's face instead of weeping at his feet when he threatened her with death. I also can't understand why Tamar kept staunchly referring to Judah's household as her home; why would she do this when not a SINGLE member of his household or family was remotely decent to her? Other than this distasteful weakness of the heroine, the book's good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope From Dark Places
A gripping story by one of my favorite story-tellers! This book grabs you and doesn't let go. Life is depressing, unfair, dark, and without hope --- and then it gets worse. Out of that, and by making some difficult choices, a young woman emerges into wisdom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
Tamar's story taught me a lot about being abandoned and abused. It also taught me about letting God be my protector and not myself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read, especially if you are looking for inspiration
I bought The Lost Choice because I really enjoyed the author's previous book, The Traveller's Gift. Lost Choice is even more inspirational, while Traveller's Gift provides motivational messages you can put into action.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book...
The book goes back and forth between history and present without tying it together until later in the book. This tends to aggravate me no end...thus my 4 star rating.I am such a linear thinker, that is tough for me.
2-0 out of 5 stars Readable but too gooshy for this cynic
This book was too heavy on its goody-goody message - that magical ancient objects put in the hands of ordinary people can lead them to greatness. Made me almost feel like "Gee, I guess I won't really make it unless I find a weird old piece of bronze."

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written engaging story
Miriam Stolfus believed that someday she would marry William Graber. Although he had moved away from their Amish community, she expected him to return for her. When he wrote to tell her he was planning to marry someone else, she was devastated. Even the children she teaches notice how impatient she has become. Miram feels all the light andjoy has gone out of the world.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book.....I can't wait for the rest of the series
First of all, the book itself, as well as the amazon description, states that this is a re-issue.Therefore, it should not have been a surprise the "this is the same book" as the original. There are expanded scenes in this book, so it is not verbatim the same book. (I went back and checked the old copy my library has.)I have always been a fan of Beverly Lewis, and this book was my first time reading Wanda Brunstetter.I am very pleased with this book, the story line is good, the characters are well developed.I am currently reading another Brunstetter series, the Daughters of Lancaster County, and it is also going well.I am looking forward to the remainder of this series being "re-released."

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT A NEW STORY
I was lead to believe that this was a new book coming out. Well it is indeed a new printed book - but the story is an old one - from a previous book of this authors, LANCASTER BRIDES.I am very disappointed that this is not a new story. Waited for several months to get this only to find out it's one I've already read. The story was good enough the first time around, but I sure did not need a separate book of it.Buyer beware. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Rejoice (Redemption #4)
I am fastly becoming an Karen Kingsbury fan.I am addicted to the Baxter Family.I feel like I know them personally and can relate to the trails and tribulations that they go through, and how they trust and lean on God to get them through.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rejoice
Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors and I've read her whole Redemption Series and have since lent them to 3 other people who also have enjoyed them. I highly recommend them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Faith emerging from tragedy--outstanding book!
Rejoice is the 4th in the Redemption Series. It focuses on another of the Baxters' daughters, Brooke.Brooke and her husband are physicians with a strong marriage and deep faith.A tragic accident involving their toddler daughter shakes the entire family.I try not to go too much into the plot when reviewing a book, so as not to ruin the story for someone who has yet to read it.I will say though that the struggle between Brooke and her husband (because she blames him) is so realistic when something happens to a child. The Baxter family shows support, love, and hope, as they try to hold together as a unit.To me the main theme in this book--or call it a lesson to be learned--is that there is no greater act of worship than to trust God in all circumstances. If you've read the 3 books before this one, you already feel like you know the Baxter family. This is a thought provoking, inspiring book that you will not put down...get ready for some late night reading!I do recommed that you buy all 5 of the Redemption Series books so you will not miss a beat.In order they are: Redemption, Remember, Return, Rejoice, and Reunion.Even after that, there is a spinoff called the "Firstborn Series" starting with Fame and then Forgiven, that you'll want to pursue.Happy reading--these books are an experience, not just a diversion. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars My Least Favorite in the Series... Slow
I like Lahaye's bookbut I found Apollyon to be a plodding, slow rehash of earlier works... At least the first 3/4's were. Lessee Ben Judah preaches, Rayford acts holier-than-thou, various non-essential characters are killed, Chloe speed-dials buck, and Buck does his Indiana Jones routine. The Trib force stops and tries to convert every Tom, Dick, and Hattie they meet and have instant gratification by seeing the 'sign' appear on their newly converted forheads. Bingo! You've just won a believer!
4-0 out of 5 stars Destruction and pain are the formula for LB #5: Apollyon.
What a mixed bag this book was. it was typical Left Behind fare: 400 pages of theorizing, agonizing, and evil antichrist mischief in the face of God's chosen people; but still, things are slow in the LB universe at this point, so while it is entertaining, nothing really of note happens in this book. Nothing concrete, anyway. This is the book, though, where a LOT of things get rolling, though.

3-0 out of 5 stars If You Ignore the Implausable....
Orson Scott Card said in his book How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy (somewhere, I forget the page) that you can get readers to believe the impossible but not the implausible, and boy howdy are there a load of pretty implausible situations in this story. There are some touching moments that saved The Religion War from getting a one, but the story is just so hard to believe that didn't amount for much.
