5-0 out of 5 stars Comforting and encouraging
One of the best terms for Traci's books is "comforting." Written with a readable style, her rural setting and familiar characters offer readers an oasis from the stress of everyday life. You may also want to read Can of Peas by Traci and, if you care for short Christian fiction, I would recommend Cool Water for the Thirsting Soul by Kenny Paul Clarkson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Writing, Wonderful Stories, More Books PLEASE!
I've read all three of Traci Depree's Lake Emily books-A Can of Peas, Dandilions in a Jelly Jar and Aprons on a Clothesline-and am constantly checking for more! As far as I'm concerned Traci Depree can continue the Lake Emily books indefinitly!! If she writes them I will read them!! I love her stories and her style!

4-0 out of 5 stars Comforting!
If you have read Can of Peas and Dandelions in a Jelly Jar, then you know that you'll be in comforting and easy reading with this one. If you have not read any of DePree's other works, then I would suggest that you start with Can of Peas so you won't miss out on the background of this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bible Stories Made Interesting
I'll admit it. When I read my Bible, I tend to skip the minor prophets. Except for Jonah, I don't think the majority of people can even remember their naems. Luckily Francine Rivers has made Amos into a novel (Book 4 in her Sons of Encouragement series) so we can learn about his story. Amos is a shepherd who is appalled at the way God's people have become in the days after the nation has split. God gives Amos visions of what will happen to the enemies of his people and to his people themselves. When Amos goes to Bethel to tell them, they first rejoice at hearing of the destruction of their enemies but then after hearing what will happen to them, they turn against Amos. Even though near death at times, Amos stays true to his word warning the people to repent and leave the ways of the false gods and priests. The people don't listen and God sends down his punishments.
4-0 out of 5 stars 4th in Sons of Encouragement series
The Prophet by Francine Rivers is the fourth book in the Sons of Encouragement series and features the story of Amos, the Old Testament prophet.I don't know much about Amos' history, so I'm unsure of how much is fiction within this book, but the story follows Amos from shepherd in hills of Judah to condemning prophet in the kingdom of Israel and back to shepherd.Amos suffers much from being a prophet: beatings, hunger, even his brothers turn their backs on him.I've read the other books in the series, and I was a little disappointed in this one.The beginning of the book with Amos as a shepherd shines.Reading about his loving care for his sheep gave me new understanding of Jesus as my shepherd, and I was deeply moved. But the radical transformation to wild-eyed prophet wasn't handled as well.I kept waiting to connect with Amos the Prophet the way I had with Amos the Shepherd, but the connection never happened.

5-0 out of 5 stars delightful biblical biographical fiction
The sacrifice demanded by the Priests required using only the best most perfect sheep; yet though a child he is confused and somewhat appalled to observe his family insures that a flawed animal is given to the Priest. He wonders why as his father and older brothers tell him to keep quiet; they state why give away a perfect animal for sacrifice when damaged goods will do the trick.Amos does not understand as during this period of plenty his family has prospered. He concludes his family and the priests have cheated God; soon he believes a day of reckoning will come for those who prosper from their ill gains.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great must-have book!
I enjoyed this book, but before I give its praises, I must list a complaint first. Then, I will be able to focus on the positive aspects of this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to know your covenant rights as a Christian....
This is a must have book....A lot of us have heard the word covenant but we don't really understand want it really means to be in covenant with someone....5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Christians and curious non-Christians!!!
If I would have read this book 10 years ago, I believe I would have been a Christian for 10 more years.Booker is a fantastic teacher, analyzing events in the Old Covenant [Testament] and how they forshadow and point to the New Covenant. This book explains the steps in the covenant, which so many people do not know about.I myself was one of those people. The book takes you through the old priestly customs and rituals and how they point to our High Priest, Jesus. It also answers questions like "Why couldn't anyone touch Jesus while he was ascending?" and "Why was Jesus called the Son of Man?"This book is an absolute must-have!Essential!Keep it with your Bible! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Another terrific installment on the folks at Harmony
Anyone who has stumbled across the writings of Philip Gulley will want to get the next installment in the lives of Harmony. As a person reads these books, he or she forgets that these are all fictional characterizations and a person cannot wait to hear the crazyness continue.A must-read for anyone who wants to have some light-hearted moments!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great to visit Harmony again!
My favorite thing about reading Gulley's books is the feeling of being home. So many of the characters are so familiar!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful book
Someone picking this book up might think it is another one of those sugar coated nostalgic looks at how we like to view ourselves, or rather what America used to be like. But it's not, or not entirely, because Quaker pastor Gulley avoids romanticizing his little town.He as pastor has a sometimes rocky relationship with his congregation.Early in the book, he says that every Sunday he urges his congregation to become a new creation and every week they refuse to do it.There is plenty of bad behavior in this book, but there's also a wonderful sense of community -- of living somewhere where there are no secrets. The community also manages to come together when there are troubles, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars He is the writer of hope as well as the painter of light
I have read each book in this collection in a day I can never put them down..He writes with hope just like he paints the light in his pictures..I don't know how he does it but he captured my heart with this uplifting story ..we hear of so many disturbing stories and so much trash in books these days it was just awesome to read abook that made mefeel good about the world and to give me hope .I love these books waiting for the next book.

1-0 out of 5 stars And you thought his paintings were bad...
Wow, unbelievable! This absolutely worthless painter who has swindled white-trash and others of no taste into buying his paintings is showing he is as bad an author as he is a painter. I read this because I thought the idea of Kincaid writing a book was hilarious and I wasn't disappointed. Listen folks, you who buy Kincaid paintings, just to let you know, the rest of the world that has a modicum of taste is laughing at you. Yes, just like people who think the mullet haircut looks good on them. If you want a good laugh or more likely contemplating suicide, this is the book for you. Like his paintings, this book is an absolute piece of garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars i can't believe it!
i can't believe all the bad reviews this book is getting in here!this turned out to be one of my favorite books of all time!it is funny through and through.(more than once i laughed out loud and had to explain myself to my husband.)the feeling i took away from this book is APPRECIATION.when lucifer gets to experience life, duncan is great at describing how he experiences the wonderful things we all take for granted every day.i will think twice now whenever i see a sunset or feel the wind on my face.the ideas about how it all began and heaven/hell are clever and thought provoking.
3-0 out of 5 stars The ramblings of man possessed...
I found the portrayal of Satan getting a second chance at salvation by taking human form for a period of time to see if he can be a good boy quite humorous, dark, but humorous.I rather enjoyed the 'off topic' ramblings of Satan, often for entire chapters, while the main story consists of him trying very hard to understand what it is to be human, and keeping his identity secret to Declan Gunn's (nearly an anagram of the writers name, if you didn't notice) life partners.Satan in Declan's form is going to write the most fabulous screenplay in the history of man.
2-0 out of 5 stars Reads like an excited 17-year-old wrote it...
This entire book can be summed up thusly:"Look how clever I am.Just look how cheeky; I am so delightfully progressive.Admire my cunning and originality, for I am wit personified!"

4-0 out of 5 stars Stirred my soul
The Shunning is not great literature, but that does not mean it is not great. It is a sweet (but not too sweet, just sanitized, like old movies after the formal Production, or Hays Code of 1934), simply written story, and the world can always use more of those, though I am beginning to believe Mrs. Lewis is a one-trick pony, like V.C. Andrews.Whereas most all of Miss Andrews' novels followed the same pattern--five books in a series, the first three being told from the same character's point of view, the fourth book being a sequel to the first three and the fifth being a prequel to the first three)--and the same, recurring theme--the incest element was prevalent, so do Miss Lewis's (and forgive me for comparing her Christian fiction to V.C. Andrews' sinful, but entertaining trash), as they all have something to do with the Amish. But, the author is just writing about what she knows, and that is better than writing about something you do not know, thus risking losing all credibility with your readers (though Dan Brown did it quite convincingly).
4-0 out of 5 stars Captures You Heart and Mind.

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of time
This book started off interestingly enough, but the ending was horrible! It's like the author just got tired of writing and decided it was time to be done. I hate endings that are "too easy," and this was one of those. It ended with no explanation. Don't waste your time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved it!
I read this entire series and I absolutely loved it. Moved at a perfect pace and I enjoyed the characters. I am a big fan ofTerri's novels.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bring on the Red Herrings!
I think this is the most satisfying mystery from Teri Blackstock yet. Without giving away the ending let me just hint that I was totally fooled by the Red Herrings in this mystery. As good as the story line is I agree with other reviewers that the characters drive this story (as in all good novels). The thread of restorationis strong throughout the story and the bond of parent and child is powerful. This is an excellent ending to a very good series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
In Breakers Reef, the fourth in the Cape Refuge series, the body of a well-liked teenage girl from Cape Refuge is discovered by Chief Cades' rookie officer, Scott Crown. The body has been staged to look like a murder described in the novel written by an eccentric mystery writer who recently moved to town. Clues planted by the murderer's accomplice lead the Cape Refuge police (and the reader!) to false conclusions. Soon after the first murder, there is another, this time discovered by the Chief himself. As law enforcement struggles to find solid evidence and sort the real clues, three people go missing. It's a race to find them before one of them ends up dead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rivers Rocks!
I'm one of those girls that avoids anything pink or fluffy.I avoid being "cute".I don't like Valentine's Day.And I hate romance novels!
5-0 out of 5 stars A joy to read
Something of come down from the first to novels of the trilogy. It is basicly the loose ends brought together to form a story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fitting end for strong series
This is the third and last entry in the Mark of the Lion trilogy. I felt that Atretes had slipped a little from his softening in the previous book, but as the book went on I could see how necessary his hardness was. The character of Anomia is a bit cliched, but to tell the truth, she's a well-written cliche and some people are truly that self-centered. I admired Rizpah's strength throughout the book and how her love for Atretes softened her and allowed the Lord to use her for great works. The level of detail in 1st century AD daily life is astonishing. Rivers fills the book with breath-taking descriptions and detail so that it's easy to fall into that world. I held off on reading this series despite the good feedback I'd heard about it, because I was concerned that it would come off as too stiff or so full of trying to preach that the story would be neglected. I should know better from Rivers. She never makes the story secondary to the message; they are always entwined so carefully and completely that one without the other would fall flat. And I've yet to read a Rivers book that falls flat. This whole trilogy is definitely a must read for Christians. We're blessed in this country that we have freedom of religion. These stories of people who have to hide their faith or die for it is amazing.

When Christy Huddleston leaves a life of privilege and ease to teach in the impoverished Smokey Mountains, her faith is severely tested by her pupils, the love of two men, and the curious customs of the mountain people in her community. Yet she grows to love these people and the simple, fulfilling lifestyle to be found in the heart of God's country.First released in 1967, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In Defence Of Dr. Mac Neil
I am quite amused by two of the customer reveiws which I have recently read by people who favor David for Christy over the Dr. First of all, allow me to say that this superb example of Christian literature is not, by definition, a romance novel. This is a 'maturing' plot. This book is about trusting in God for your needs, and for guidence. It is about giving of yourself. Finding purpose, and meaning, in life. And helping others to find their faith. I believe that is one of the reasons Catherine Marshall tossed Dr. MacNeil into the drama. His love for Christy showed him that God must be real . . . because love must come from somewhere . . . or, rather, from SOMEONE. I like Neil. It is hard for me to grasp why some people don't. Though, like Christy, my feelings about him are often divided, my more noble feelings win out in the end. Who wouldn't think highly of a man who pours all of his streangth out for a people ravaged by poverty and disease when he could have been rich, and famous? Christy also kissed a comfortable life goodbye, in order to be of service. They were soul mates. As far as David goes, I like him, too. In the end, it seemed Miss Alice had discovered the core of his weakness. At this piont, if the story had continued, his charactor might have been developed to full advantage. Recognizing our problem is half of the solution. And there ARE plenty of really great things about David that certainly deserve commendation. But the fact does remane that he was, evidently, using his relationship with Christy as a means to escape the pointlessness in his life. This may be an opinion, but I believe we should never turn romance in order to escape from reality. We should find joy and meaning in being who God meant for us to be . . . and THEN, through that heart spilling over with the Holy Spirit, though that life touched with redemption, God will bless us with a love that GIVES more than it TAKES.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Way in Life
Most people find thier way in life by going to college, getting married or moving away.BUt Christy Huddleston found her self in many hardships from moving to a small mountain town known as Cutter Gap. Here, Christy came across many situations many people would never even think of. she came to Cutter Gap not knowing anything about the traditional or superstitious ways of the mountain people. Some ways she found to be very offensive, and others were surprisingly more beautiful more deep then anything she saw in life. But in the end, Christy found the mountain people gave more to her then she first expected to give to them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Christy
This was my favorite book as a child and even now when I reread the story it still affects me in such a positive way. Christy's decision to be a teacher for the poor community of Cutter Gap in the Smokey Mountains puts you on an emotional rollercoaster because of all the trials and frustrations she has to overcome to succeed there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Confused...
This was wasn't NEARLY as good as 'Sarah' but not quite as bad as 'Zipporah'.I was just about to put it down when Lilah was summoned to the queen. That's when it picked up and "saved" this book.I'm confused because I don't see how Marek could have written such a WONDERFUL book in 'Sarah' and then fallen so far in his next two.
3-0 out of 5 stars I wish it was better
I read Sarah and Zipporah and absolutely fell in love with them.I was so excited to read the third book in the trilogy that I marked the date on my calendar the day it came out.I was, however, a bit dissapointed. If you read the other two you should still read this one, but it is definately no where near as wonderful as Sarah or Zipporah. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sequel, but the First Was Better
I fell in love with the characters and story of One Tuesday Morning and I was completely thrilled to find out that Karen Kingsbury was writing a sequel. I tried not to hype myself up about it to much because sequels are never as good as the originals, however I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Beyond Tuesday Morning was also a very good and touching story. Even though I have read One Tuesday Morning ummm...4? times now, I have read Beyond Tuesday Morning twice and I can't wait for a possible 3rd installment in the series!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sequel
After reading ONE TUESDAY MORNING, I was glad to see that Ms. Kingsley had finished the story with a sequel. She did a great job and I would highly recommend both books as Kingsley is one of the better Christian writers out there.I only had one question and it bothers me but not enough to give the book 4 stars.I find it very hard to believe that Clay, during his first tour of St. Paul's, wouldn't have mentioned to Jamie that his brother had been in the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks. It's a small thing but his silence doesn't seem believeable. Still, the story would have come to a grinding halt if he did, so there you go.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was a Begrudging Reader in the beginning...
When I first started reading this book, I was pretty reserved about how it would all unfold and I set myself up not to like it.As a general rule I'm not a big reader of Christian fiction because I believe that most writers of the genre are not as good a writer as they are a Christian. And I'm not trying to sound mean, but I believe the rules are more lax for someone to get published in the Christian fiction VS. general fiction. But I'll admit, I started reading this with a jaundiced eye, waiting to find it was a ridiculous book, but I was pleasantly entertained.
5-0 out of 5 stars This was amazing!!!
This book was amazing. It's right up there with Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.Having said that, this book does get a little steamy. However, the characters in this book are married so I don't see the problem with it.I couldn't put this book down. The writing captures your attention and I found myself saying "just one more chapter" and that was at 12:30 in the morning. The twists and turns are wonderful and I like the fact that the characters struggle with faith and feelings.Let's face it, that's life.I HIGHLY recommend this book.I might even read it again before it goes back to the library!

5-0 out of 5 stars The man who prepared the way...
This was a great read.It allowed me to think about all that John went through.I am not a big time book reader and find it hard to get into many books, but I was hooked from the start.I was even in tears by the end of the book.I recomend this to anyone in need of direction and is a must read for Christian Leadership.

5-0 out of 5 stars An intimate look
This book serves as one of the most intimate looks into the thoughts of Christ That I have ever read...aside from the Word itself. You become John the Baptist. You walk through his desert, sleep in his cell and experience his thoughts. Edwards is a master story-teller. If you've ever wondered why God doesn't seem to move when you think He should...this book will speak to your heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome experience
We took a lot of heat from other members of our group for suggesting a fictionalized account of John the Baptist's life. I regret that they couldn't embrace this author's account of John's life. It was such a great illustration of one of the greatest men in the Bible. Edward's storytelling pulls you in from the start & never let's you go. I finished this book 2 weeks ago & still find myself pondering points made in the book. I can't say enough good things about this book. Buy it, read it & pass it along to your fellow saints. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Novel by Kingsbury
Kingsbury makes you think about how you would react about life situations. After reading one of her books, you put your faith and beliefs in check. As with all of her books, I leave several tear soaked pages and pass them on to my daughters to read, who in turn pass them on to their friends, who pass them on to their mothers!! It's a great way to share God's love. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is great!
I have been an avid reader of the Work and the Glory series. I think that they are wonderful, and are good books for both members and nonmembers alike. This book has a good plot. There are several parts that are kind of gross (there are some affairs and stuff). This book also covers the struggle that many people had with polygamy. Another part of this book includes Joseph Smith and Hyrym Smith's martyrdom. I bawled my eyes out when I read it! These books have given me a greater understanding of what my ancestors went through and have strengthened my feelings towards Joseph Smith, his family, the apostles, and the early Saints. I would suggest these books to anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Praise to the Book!
The Work and the Glory: Praise to the Man is a great book!It is a great addition to Gerald N. Lund's series: The Work and the Glroy. In this book it talks a lot about LDS church history . . . that is the plot of the whole series. But, despite that, it has a great side plot: The life of a fiction family -- the Steeds. The way Gerlad N. Lund creates the moods for this book are amazing, and I love it how he has so many stories and so many settings at the same time. For example, at one given time, some of the family members are in Wisconsin, Palmyra, Nauvoo, on a ship, and a city in Illinois all at the same time, and Gerald N. Lund writes all of these seperate stories while combining them in a way that you don't get comfused.I would strongly suggest to read this book, but I would also strongly suggest that if you are going to read it, read the first five books in the series first (which, by the way, I would rate as a 5).Have fun reading!

4-0 out of 5 stars Incredible fantasy fiction!
DragonKnight is um...interesting. Let me clarify. It has incredibly imaginative characters, strange incidences, bizarre creatures, and adventure up the wazoo! My kids are diehard fans of Ms. Paul and have devoured each book the moment they came in the mail. I can see why. Though I'm not a fantasy enthusiast, I can appreciate their position because DragonKnight is truly an intriguing tale. Those quiss scared the bejeebers out of me and whenever they attacked the gore was PG-rated and very realistic. I also loved NRae and Jue Seeno and their special talents. My only regret is that I hadn't read the first two books in the series first, but my kids had warned me to start from the beginning. Other than that, DragonKnight was a fun ride, and very reader-friendly for a fantasy novel. I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book for All ages
Although this book is targeted for a younger audience, adults can join the adventure and humor of the strange happenings in DragonKnight. The true essence of this book cannot be enjoyed without first reading DragonSpell and DragonQuest which help you become familar with the characters and terminology. If you love fiction like The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings then you should enjoy Donita K. Paul's books.

5-0 out of 5 stars senior reader
my sister purchased the first 2 books as a birthday gag gift. little did she know how much joy these books gave me to while the hours away. absolute great adventure reading with all the bells and whistles in a dragon story. i had finished nearly half of the first book and went and ordered the third book so i had it to finish the series. i highly recommend it to any young or old readers who enjoy dragon adventure. funny, sad, rousing episodes. enjoy. ...
