5-0 out of 5 stars A usefull touch of enlightenment
A brilliant sketch providing some much needed detail into a history we in the west especially have far to little understanding of . Mr. Aslan has filled in much of the void that is our understanding of Islam .His skills as a writer are spellbinding as he gives us a wondrous often pointed tour of the rich history of Islam. This is a book bathed in Mankind's quest To connect with and strive to connect with a higher understanding to the meaning of life. and often how we are mired in the muck of misunderstanding from which such Grave consequences can spring forth. This is a rich history by a scholarwho has the ability to articulate this tapestry of history .this book is remarkable and highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book, highly recommended
a great book, worth every dollar spent!!! from me 10 out of 10 and would highly recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellente!
I just finished reading this book. No other book has been able to summarize the history of Islam so cleary andsuccinctly. In less than 300 pages, Aslan has been able to explain to me, a Muslim, some of the complexities and political jostling of the Muslim community once the prophet Muhammad passed away.

2-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, but that's all
It's easy to explain why I can't recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you've ever attended church, you need this book
I've been in the church all my life. This book is a true eye-opener.It helps explain some of the hesitation I've personally felt in some church settings and/or activities, and it helps me see a way to become involved in my church in a new and fresh manner. No wonder so many real men are so hesitant to come to church. Some of this has been under my own nose for years and I've never sensed it... yet I knew there was something right below the surface that was making some men run for the doors. If you have ever attended a church, you need to read this book, regardless of your gender.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Why Men Hate Going To Church"
Right up there and surpassing Christian men's books such as "Wild at Heart","Heart of a Tender Warrior", "Jesus Mean and Wild."Murrow's book goes straight to the heart of the problem of mens absence in the Churches of the United States.Further he offers viable solutions to change this equation while not totally alienating women, (who are the dominant factor in our churches). If you are frustrated with the overwhelming feminization of your church i.e, sermons, minitries, singing and all areas save perhaps "ushering" then you must read this book and come alive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misery in Print
Brian McLaren has no business writing a book about the message of Jesus, nevermind one that claims to reveal a 'secret message.' McLaren is not a theologian and not a historian. He shows no familiarity with Biblical languages, no familiarity of the secondary sources outside of the NT which would bring clarity to the context of the life of Christ, and no familiarity with the history of Gospel theology or criticism.
5-0 out of 5 stars Have Christians everywhere misunderstood Jesus' message?
Have Christians everywhere misunderstood Jesus' message? 3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
McLaren's book is just a mediocre attempt to understand the message of Jesus and its implications for today. Surely, McLaren is right to put emphasis on Jesus' message of the kingdom of God. Some of the contours of this aspect of Jesus' teaching have been all too often neglected by fundamentalists and evangelicals.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books of all time!
This book delves deeply into the heart issues behind many of our actions. In reading this book, I was most convicted about allowing my circumstances to dictate my behavior. Nancy speaks heavily on the responsiblity we each have to find our joy in Christ and not in our circumstances, which is something that's good for every women to be reminded of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book for all women
This is one of the most succint and direct books I've ever read for a woman who wants to live a Godly life.I loved it so much that I bought one for my mom and best friend. She is direct and clear with her writings and I felt that it applied to all Christian women who desire to truly walk the walk.Life applicable.
2-0 out of 5 stars Lies Women Believe
This book had a lot of extreme views.Demoss generalizes constantly.I felt she twisted scripture to explain her point of view.I did gleam some good out of the book.I am a fairly new Christian and I felt it was more harmful then good.I felt it could give a Christain women a feeling there are only absolutes to God's way, that we are not individuals.I felt it weighed me down more than lifted me up.I had to go back to God's word and study because at times I felt the study was toxic.I think Demoss is very biased and narrow minded.I would especially not recommend it if you are a new Christian.I also about group study I would only recommend it if you are with seasoned Christians who are willing to be objective about this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars First Book
This was the first book I aquired on Wicca.Found it to be very informative, easy to understand. Was a very interesting read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solitaries, Here is your Guide
As always, Scott Cunningham comes through with the information that we needed as those on the solitary path. If you can't find what you need in here, you may not really need it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book for Beginners
This book is a wonderful introduction to Wicca.Scott Cunningham writes in a way that is very understanding and non-threatening, and he makes the reader feel as though it's absolutely okay to follow whatever path they choose because it's their life and no one else's.I am not Wiccan, but I felt the book helped me to appreciate my eclectic pagan path more because of the way he writes.I also recommend Living Wicca. It is a sequel to this book that goes into how to actually apply the concepts in everyday life. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It's possible to reverse world thinking and personal paths
SECRETS OF THE IMMORTAL: ADVANCED TEACHINGS FROM A COURSE IN MIRACLES provides 6 cds of detail which enables listeners to chart spiritual progress. Forgiveness is at the heart of such progress, and judgement affects ability to connect with the Devine - yet it's possible to reverse world thinking and personal paths, and SECRETS OF THE IMMORTAL tells how.
5-0 out of 5 stars Secrets of the Immortal Advanced Teachings from a Course In Miracles
I have been studying A Course in Miracles for close to 3 years and it was difficult for me to understand how to let go of the ego so that I could forgive myself. After listening to Gary's 6 CD's forgiveness has become as easy as breathing. The information on the CD's is phenomenal and one of the most helpful tools for ending the cycle of birth and death.Gary has taken the information from A Course in Miracles and made it easy and enjoyable for everyone to understand. The review only allows 5 stars for the highest rating I would easily give it 10 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Miracles Make more sense than ever!
Gary Renard is very easy and fun to listen to and makes sense of so many things that were so unclear before. The Course In Miracles has been around for a long time, however for me,I had so many questions that I wasn't getting the message as clearly as I would have liked.Listening to these CD's has made the "Course" much more real and understandable.I now feel as though I can apply the principles that Gary describes very easily..I can use this in my life now.... and I am inspired to do "The Course In Miracles" again!Wow there can be and end to Reincarnation and I have the power to end my own!!!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Buy a book on probability instead
This book is mostly built around the idea "I wish it were true = it *is* true".While this book has innate appeal to those looking for meaning in their lives, if you're looking for a firm foundation for understanding coincidences in your life (i.e. intellectual integrity), you'd be better off buying an introduction to probability.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything Happens For A Reason
I enjoyed this quick read.I did skip over a few chapters that I didn't feel were pertinent to me, but still really enjoyed this book.If you are looking to see if you are on the right path in life, read God Winks. And then, start paying attention, you'll be surprised at what comes to mind!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable
This was an enjoyable book from the first page to the last.We all have moments of coincidence and this book puts into perspective that these moments do not "just happen"...putting the focus on God. I love the imagery of God "winking" at such a moment as if to say, "Hey there kid, I'm thinking about you right now."Now whenever a coincidence happens in my life, I find myself winking back to say, "Thank You, God...I'm thinking about You right now, too!"Very well written.Hats off to SQuire Rushnell for an exceptionally good book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and faith stretching
This was a marvelous book that doesn't hold any punches.Johnson makes no apologies for the manifested power of God that he teaches about and practices in his ministry. And he cites chapter and verse so you can read it for yourself, which I appreciated.

5-0 out of 5 stars HELPFUL ADVICE FOR FINDING YOUR SWEET SPOT
In this book, Lucado shares the statistic that 87 percent of workers are slaving outside of their sweet spots, that place where passions and talents intersect. His book is filled with inspirational insight as well as practical tools for finding the cure.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not too many christian authors can be revered by Dr. Phil, Alan Colmes, and Lee Strobel at the same time
I agree with other five star reviewers when I say MAX HAS DONE IT AGAIN.Ever since the first Lucado book I read (When God whispers your name) I have been a huge fan.I consider myself a discerner, and its great to relax my pride a bit and savor the books of Max Lucado.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great perspective even if you are on the mommy track!
As a former leadership development trainer, I LOVED this book. I am now a stay at home Mom and this book spoke volumes to me, even in my situation (outside the workforce) about finding a ministry niche in addition to my new vocation as Mom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bilingual BIBLE -- Englsih--Spanish
I am very plesed with this bible. I use it for the purpose of studying Spanish. I find this an excellent way to master new vocabulary and for gaining an understanding of idiomatic phrases. In the past I used separate Bibles and this was very time consuming. I can now read a chapter a day and study the new phrases without having recourse to a dictionary.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spanish/English Bible
This Bible has a nice leather cover, readable type size and font, and is set up well on the page for someone who is aspiring to be bilingual.Verses are across from each other in two columns on each page, so going back and forth between languages is easy.An excellent Bible, excellent value and we received it in 2 days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Readable Willard
Frankly I like Dallas Willard's stuff but sometimes he is tough sledding.I've taken several runs at "The Divine Conspiracy" based on countless rave reviews but inevitably I give up.So "The Great Omission" may not be all fresh and profound like some would like, but it has one pretty good thing going for it -- it is readable.
2-0 out of 5 stars Part Two
Great follow up to Divine Conspiracy... a reminder to keep moving toward Jesus in the process of transformation and Kingdom living.

4-0 out of 5 stars Introduction to the disciplines - nothing new here
Dallas Willard is a joy to be able to bump brains with in book format. No other book has had the effect on me that Divine Conspiracy did, and still does. However, if you have read Willard's other works, you will find little new here. The Great Omission is a collection of essays, which overlap each other quite often, and can get very repetitive. This one is for completists only.Good for maybe picking up and reading a different essay every so often, but reading from front to back can get exhausting.Still, it's Willard, so it gets 4 stars. If you've never read any Willard, this is not a bad place to start.Maybe his most accessable work to date. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ties it all together very nicely
I read Home with God without the benefit of having read Mr. Walsch's previous works and I must say that I recommend it without question.Since I read Home with God I have purchased ALL of Mr. Walsch's previous work and I have enjoyed them all tremendously.Home with God is so special because we all want to know what is beyond our current knowing.I have always felt that my idea of what God would do and be was quite different from what mainstream religions preach.I never could understand how God could hate anything he/she created. Mr. Walsch's God is the God I have always believed in and had faith in and experience daily in my conversations with God.I recommend you take the book slowly and allow it to become a part of you.We are all one people (children of God) and what hurts one of us hurts us all.Reminds me of the phrase "United we stand, divided we fall."Read this book with an open heart and allow yourself to be healed and comforted and reconnected to God like never before. It will positively change your life.
2-0 out of 5 stars Conversations with God?
Neale Walsh has written several New Age style books on his conversations with God, all of them bestsellers and great in popularity. However, I always get the feeling on reading his works his God is a very wishy-washy one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect...for those with an open mind.
I loved this book as much as I did all the others in the "Conversations with God" series. Although it can be read and understood on its own, its better to read all the others first.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not nonpartisan
Wallis pitches his book as an attempt to show that Christians can be Democrats or Republicans, or whatever presumably. Here, he is correct. He also pitches his argument as being nonpartisan. Here, he is mistaken; it doesn't take too long to figure out his idea of nonpartisan is liberal Democrat.

1-0 out of 5 stars WELL WRITTEN BLATHER
Although well written, this book is just left wing socialist blather. Most egregiously in error is the author's characterization of Catholic social teaching. He wuld have us believe that the Catholic Church is all behind the US social welfare system. Just one quote summarizes where the Catholic Church really is on this issue:
5-0 out of 5 stars finding common ground in higher ground
jim wallis' book "God's politics: why the right gets it wrong and the left doesn't get it" offers a great response to many major issues that our country is grappling with these days. wallis convicts both republicans and democrats and speaks with a surprising level of urgency and candor. he reminds the reader that God is neither a republican or a democrat, that He doesn't want you to vote partisan but according to your highest ideals, and that yes, He definitely HATES war, torture, and injustice. some conservative critics complain that he wants to make all Christians into democrats and start a socialist movement, but it's actually very clear from reading the first few pages that this isn't true. no matter how you vote and no matter what your faith, it's an insightful read that bucks all the party lines and encourages those who want to vote from the heart. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wide-Eyed Wonder
This book somewhat builds on the anthropic principle, the idea that our planet is finely tuned for life. It follows the long-out of print and highly readable contribution by Augros and Stanciu, The New Story of Science. The authors search the world for evidences of not simply design, but genius, and examine human genius to see what it might look like. Along the way they not only ruminate over a myriad dazzling ideas and observations, but also bring a much-needed cooling down to the pitched debate over intelligent design.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Exploration of Nature's Genius
A Meaningful World is a profoundly thoughtful, clever and witty exploration of the beauty and genius of nature.Where reductionists see unguided, mechanistic processes and meaninglessness, Doctors Benjamin Wiker and Jonathan Witt see purpose and layer upon layer of meaning. The new book is a valuable contribution to the ongoing debate surrounding neo-Darwinian evolutionary theory and the theory of intelligent design (ID), and a must-read for those who follow this debate.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Summation of Evidence of Design
Benjamin Wiker and Jonathan Witt have coauthored a very compelling account of why science and the arts reveal design and genius in nature. This accomplishment serves as a summation of the various written accounts of the revival of the theory of design as the overarching philosopical explanation of the physcial world.Stating that the sum is greater than the individual parts, Wiker and Witt have written a thorough attack upon the materialist reductionist belief system and exposed the central false assumption of our times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Love and Respect is a wonderful book! It really helped me understand many things. It deals with situations in which a man or woman is responsible for discord in the relationship. This is one topic I have learned about in the past, and thought I had really implemented in my life, but I was amazed at how much I still did not understand about the way men think and respond. Read this book even if you're not having marital problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars Christ loved the church first
If the church is our example of marriage Christ LOVED us first. He did not need to be respected first. I agree with the main idea of the book, however the author puts more pressure on women than on men. Men, lead the way in love as Christ did, even when he received no respect but crucifixion.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was a blessing
My husband and I have read this book together and it has made all the difference in the world to our relationship. The love and respect thing that is gone over and over again in the book is right on.At first it feels a little wierd but stick with it, it WILL make the difference that you have been looking for.It has put the great things back into our lives. ... The transaction went perfectly smooth!

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Stars for Potential
We have just begun to use this text and accompanying workbook and video at our church for a seven-week study to determine our God given talents and calling. Apparently this material is also used in business for the same purpose. The initial process is to go online and take a strength finder assessment (approx. 30-40) minutes. This assessment then provides the user with a ranking of their top five strengths. Note: Each book has a unique code that can be used only once to take the assessment. The results from that assessment is then the basis for the remainder of the study, e.g., six weeks in the workbook. I have not read through the entire book. Most of the content is concerned with describing the thirty-four "themes" (e.g., strenghts). I would not recommend purchasing the book without the accompanying "Journey" workbook - and I would think that doing this on your own (with the book and workbook) would be valuable but not as vaulable as doing it in a small group.

5-0 out of 5 stars great stuff
I appreciated the way this book helps staff find the focus of their strengths. It's a great way to help people know what others already know about them. I highly recommend this for a staff retreat.

2-0 out of 5 stars From the Same Minds That Brought You Joel Osteen
I purchased Eldredge's "Wild at Heart", and I didn't think it was scripturally sound. I was given "Waking the Dead" as a present, so I tried to read it as well. I finally gave it up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This book by John Eldredge is wonderful. It was recommended to me and now I'm recommending it to others. The four streams he touches on one doesn't often come across, and the examples he gives one can relate to.

4-0 out of 5 stars Waking the Dead that are Wild at Heart
I like this book much better than Wild at Heart, though I tought students from it for about half a year. The basic thing I've taken away from the books is that it teaches us to be open about our futures and grab some nostalga along the way. Waking the Dead like Wild at Heart focus on what most conservatives will call OPEN THEOLOGY. This approach to God creates a sort of open question as to the future and whether we have a hand in it. John frequently sets up statements that lead conservatives to view them as redefining God, His intentions and what scripture says.

5-0 out of 5 stars Profoundly thought provoking
Let me start off by saying that I don't know how anything I say could do justice to what this book has done for me.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for adult Sunday school classes
Our Sunday School class is finishing The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg. It has been a big hit.(We also studied his book If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat a couple years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. People still refer to its themes.)
5-0 out of 5 stars This book lives up to its title
This is a wonderful book for Bible study or just to read.Unlike other books about spiritual disciplines, this one gives practical ideas that are easy to incorporate into your daily life.It is very uplifting and removes alot of guilt from not living up to what you may think is expected of you as a Christian. ...
