4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start reading about leadership
Leadership books remind me of cooking, there are a finite number of common ingredients that make up the majority of dishes, but there seems to be an infinite number of ways to combine and present these ingredients.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not so innovative
Maxwell's concepts of what a leader is is quite accurate. However, I don't think he needed to spend over 200 pages to define what a leader is.That's what this book came to be: one long, repetitive, obvious definition for leadership.I didn't see these as laws so much as nuances of what he'd already said.
5-0 out of 5 stars Begin Here
If you've never read anything by John Maxwell, then you should. And this is the best place to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Check It Out
The Faith Club arose out of the rubble of 9-11, as three young mothers living in New York City - a Muslim, a Christian, and a Jew - agreed to meet together to discuss their differing faiths and how they might learn to live together in peace.
4-0 out of 5 stars a beautiful read
I think in it's own little way this book does what it can to spread some hope and optimism about Jewish, Christian, and Muslim people living together in harmony.

Editorial Review

For almost 20 years Jerry and Esther Hicks have been presenting workshops, producing tapes and writing books to help people create the life they desire. And desire is no small word in this agenda. According to the teachings of "Abraham"--a collective name for the spiritual entities that are channeled through Esther--desire is a good and natural force within us. In fact, we are all here to fulfill our desires, according to Abraham. Yet the reason so much of us feel frustrated, is that we have difficulty knowing how to ask and receive whatever we want to be, do or have.Read more

Loved it. If you actually do what they recommend you will immediately begin feeling better, doesn't matter how bad you feel, you will enjoy results. Then after you feel better, the good stuff starts. Read it, do it, and then be pleasanlty surprised.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Abraham
I'm afraid I understand the laws of attraction differently than the Hicks, though I know they profess this to be channeled. I'm quite sure many will benefit from this, yet another in the line of channellings, but for me, I'd have to couple this book with some of Chopra's work, and certainly with Gangi's work, whom I consider a true channel of God. Nevertheless, it provides the daily meditations and answers the need of many, so, good job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Exercises to Support Growing Abundance
I love this book!It is an excellent support system for learning to work with the Law of Attraction.

5-0 out of 5 stars A powerful read !! A personal saga of survival against all odds
Elie Wiesel's book, "Night" was one of the first books I had read on the Holocaust when I was in high school back in the mid 1970s. His painful and searing account of the unspeakable horror, known as the Holocaust is the single most defining event of the 20th century.
5-0 out of 5 stars Never again
'Night' is the heart-wrenching true story of a young Jewish boy who is rounded up by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz. The young boy is none other than the author, Eliezer Wiesel. He recounts his horrific experiences as an inmate of the Nazi concentration camp system and his struggle for survival. Amid the death and desperation, young Elie struggles only to remain near his father, without which, he would have no will to live. 'Night' is also a story about lost faith, as the once devout, young Elie defiantly rebukes the God that did nothing to stop these indescribable horrors. I found myself thinking that I would have never submitted to this inhuman treatment. That I would have preferred to die on my feet than to live on my knees, and would have somehow fought back. But this is all too easy to say in hindsight, from the comfort of my warm, safe home. I put this book down with a heavy heart. I was angered and saddened, and I can honestly say that this is one of the most moving books that I have ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars storm of storms
Though the word 'Holocaust' has become the most common cipher for one of mankind's greatest crimes, many Jews and other rememberers of 1939-1945 object to the borrowing of this biblical term to name Hitler's mass murder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read the Book !!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Another Prophetic Disappointment
In "Epicenter" Joel Rosenberg provides the background information that drives his novels about the Middle East and the end times. This nonfiction book will grab readers' attention due to its analysis of current events through the lenses of politics and economics. However, Rosenberg insists that a third lens of biblical prophecy is necessary in order to truly understand what is happening in the Middle East today. But is Rosenberg's third lens properly focused?Has he understood Ezekiel's prophecies correctly?
5-0 out of 5 stars Joel Rosenberg; Uncanny Visionary!
Joel Rosenberg a former Jewish convert to Christianity seems to have the most uncanny grasp on recent modern events. His Jewish background gives him a greater than usual empasis on old testament teachings and prophency. When the fiction books he was writng began to come true after he wrote them he and his associates were surprised to say the least. I saw him in a seminar relate the events of 911 that eclipsed the writing of his book The Last Jihad. Then he stated his next fiction book came true while he was writing it! Now he has released a "non fiction" book! We must keep an eye on the events unfolding, and if indeed we see things happening that this book forcasts not only will it prove its prophesy, but will certainly as he says change our future. i think the jury is still out, but these events indeed bear careful scrutiny and watching, and if proven by time demand a Christian response. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Buy a book on probability instead
This book is built around the idea "I wish it were true = it is true".While this book has innate appeal to those looking for meaning in their lives, if you're looking for a firm foundation for understanding coincidences in your life (i.e. intellectual integrity), you'd be better off buying an introduction to probability.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a MUST read!!!!
If you've ever had that feeling like you were invisible...and wished just one time there was a signal that let you know you were on someone's...anyone's... global positioning system...there is such a signal. It's called a God wink. This book tells you how to find them and tap into them and make them work for you. The author is witty and funny and brilliant at weaving stories together that make you think "Hey, that's me he's writing about!"
5-0 out of 5 stars Renewed Inspiration & Upbeat Reading
If you are looking for something to lift your spirits and make you aware of all the wonderfilled things around you, this is the book for you. It hleped me focus on the little angel messages that are put in my path each day that I wasn't aware of -- the author's upbeat, enthusiastic style of writing is infectious and encouraging and much needed in these perilous times. I highly recommend it to lighten one's burden and give you a fresh way of looking at daily events and seeing the larger, long-range picture. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars One more book to help corporate America
Oh my, one more motivational speaker, one more book about helping corporate America pad its pockets while its workers are supposed to ignore the core greed and put a smile on their faces and be Freds while the big shots benefit. Sorry, this just doesn't resonate with workers today who see their "profit centers" being sucked dry by the big home office and they are supposed to chin up and be a Fred regardless of the way the big boys (and ladies) are destroying the company they work for. Let's hope Fred is still practicing the Fred Factor when he shows up at WalMart or Dollar General looking for a job because his work has been outsourced, his branch consolidated or his job merged with three others.
5-0 out of 5 stars I know the author and he lives his message
Lots of people learn good ideas about successful living and restate them for others, but not so many actually put them into practice in their own lives. Mark Sanborn lives his message. The Fred Factor is not just stories from an author. It is also life wisdom from a practitioner. Mark's personal and professional life, when viewed over two decades (as I have), are inspiring. He's the kind of guy you want living in your neighborhood and whose kids you want playing with your kids.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and Powerful!
This was a great book on several levels.First, it was fun to read.I love the story of Fred.Second, it had some very powerful business concepts. What I love about them is that they aren't complicated or difficult to put to use.It really took me back to basics - the things I have to do to be successful with my clients.Third, Fred reminded me of things I need to do and confirmed many things that I always knew I should do. This book would be good for virtually anyone in any job - and shouldn't be read once, but at least once a year! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars POWERFUL. Great insight, well documented, very disturbing

5-0 out of 5 stars The Comparisons are Glaring
This book obliterates simplistic, politically correct views about Islam. The word-for-word comparisons between the teachings of Muhammed and the teachings of Christianity, Buddhism, and other religions, are stunning.Take, for example, the famous story of Jesus' intervention when a crowd was about to stone an adulterous woman. His words, to let the person "who is without sin cast the first stone", sent the mob retreating in shame. He then told the woman to, "Go and sin no more."As the autor quotes from the Quran, Muhammed was confronted with a similar situation.A pregnant adulterous woman had come to him requesting that he pray with her for forgiveness. He sent her away until the baby was born. When she came back months later, he sent her away until the child was weened. When she came back as directed, he took the child and gave it to one of his men as a gift.Muhammed then ordered the mother buried up to her shoulders and stoned to death. It really is time for media pundits, college professors, and self-serving politicos to stop making shallow moral equivalence statements about Islam, the Quran, and the Crusades. This book needs to be read and studied by those who now are in a position to give away our birthright. It took the ancient Greeks, the Judeo-Christian tradition, the Magna Carta, the U.S. Constitution, and hundreds of years of Western Civilization to produce the most beneficent and free society in history. Here, Muslims and others can practice their beliefs without fear.We must insist that spokesmen and apologists for Islam demand that this "religion of peace" grant its neighbors the same rights the Western democracies have gladly given to them.Read the book. Its an eye-opener.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good information ruined by biased commentary
This is an interesting book in that it does have valuable information regarding Islam and misconceptions regarding Islam.

5-0 out of 5 stars you shall love your neighbor as yourself
Danforth follows the teachings of Jesus in this moderate and sensible discussion of the extremes theocons go to in following an badly distorted religion that has little to do with NT Christianity.Danforth makes the point much less emphatically than that, always willing to give evangelicals more than the benefit of the doubt. Nevertheless, the gun-totin' execution-advocatin'tax-hatin' theocons bear no resemblance to the Jesus of the bible who advised against using weapons, stopped an execution, and in Lukehas only hard words for the rich and those who pursue wealth.
4-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Democrat Doing the Same?
In terms of extreme partisanship, Danforth has nailed the problems with the modern Republican Party on the head. The greatest confusion on this issue, however, rests in the assumption that the most vociferous opponents of the Republicans are somehow different. They are fanatical too, and in a profoundly quasi-religious way. Righteousness is now at the core of both party bases.
1-0 out of 5 stars Politics and Faithyness
In 1909, G.K. Chesterton recognized the danger of Episcopalianism ceasing to be a religion without ceasing to be a church.Mr. Danforth, who publicly dons the mantle of credibility as a former Episcopalian clergyman, seems to be a perfect example of this unfortunate decline. The kernel is gone but he clings to the shell.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better
I just finished reading The Glass Castle, a much different memoir, and this one is poorly written in comparison. Most of the problems are in editing. Sections of the story are repeated and there are some inconsistencies in timelines etc. It is an interesting story, and surely bittersweet for some who have lost a family member in a car accident. I would imagine that they are pleased for the author but at the same time tempted to wonder why their loved one wasn't "chosen" to survive.

3-0 out of 5 stars Heaven is just the beginning of the journey
90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper with Cecil Murphey is the story of Baptist minister, Don Piper, and the consequences of a January day when a horrendous collision with an 18-wheeler cost him his life--for 90 minutes.
1-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "3 years for Recovery" not "90 min in Heaven"

Pope John Paul II's Catechism of the Catholic Church came out in 1992. It is not a book for casual reading but represents the documented teachings of the Catholic Church on issues of faith.

5-0 out of 5 stars first John Maxwell book I've read
As a middle manager, I found this book quite good. Not only is this book for managers, but I believe it ALL staff should read it.For those who have given negative reviews, keep in mind that there ARE people out there who've never read a book on leadership. This one is easy to read, the ideas are easy to understand. It's a great introductory book for those who think that leader is synonymous with manager. This book will help them understand the idea of leadership.
