Bilious rant spoils otherwise thoughtful and penetrating analysis
The first thing that strikes one about Melanie Phillips' impassioned broadside against radical Islam run amok is its cover (UK edition). A snapshot from the anti-Danish cartoons protest in London shows 20-month old Farisa Jihad sporting `I Love Al-Qaeda' headgear while the angry features of one keffiyeh-clad demonstrator grace the upper part of the picture. It is a poignant image of innocence soon to evaporate, the first steps of an apprenticeship in hate watched over and encouraged by the representatives of a fanatical ideology who, Phillips argues, too easily find quarter in our midst and do so at our peril.
The birth process of Islamic Fundamentalism in London
This book expertly describes how and why the Muslim community within London gives birth to a group of radical men whom go on to committ terror throughout the world. The author questions why England has not confronted these sects more head on without the worry of insulting Muslems. An interesting and worthy point is one that indicates that living in England does not give anyone the right to denounce the goverment to the point ofproclaiming death to the goverment officials. Maybe its time to send these people back to the 'war torn' areas from which they came from and allow them to express their 'freedoms' and collect ' state financial aid' there. This point is raised and the reader has the option of agreeing or not. Attitude does make the difference
This book was very informative and easy to read.John Maxwell wrote in a language that is very to easy to understand and kept it very interesting and to the point.I recommend this book to everyone that would like to succeed in their personal and professional life.

makes you and breaks you
there is not need to get a rocket science degree to understand the magic of your attitude, keeps it high under all the circumstances no matter what and build necessary skills for the development of your own career, attitude alone cannot help you to reach the top step of a ladder but it would be plus if you have it with other skills, skills are important to take you the place you are dream about. It is a good book if you can pick up one or two good things out of it and implement them in your life, you will see the big difference between the Difference Maker and the Difference Taker. The rest is history.

6 STARS . . .how about 7?
This book is everything it is said to be. To know that there is an answer to ED other than the new ed pills should be talked about on the local news. To think that I overcame several years of ED with the help of simple supplements that can be found in an advanced multi-vitamin(and I don't mean a bunch of herbs). I've only been following the advice in this book for a couple of weeks and can tell you that this is the answer. Very Good Book...
Many Lives, Many Masters left me with an unquenchable thirst to continue reading on the subject of past-life regression therapy. It also left me with a sense of peace and a comfort to know that higher beings are available if we should have the courage to call on them. I am a believer, not because of this book, but because of significant personal experiences. This book assisted in the further confirmation of my believes even when these are not shared by others, which is ok. It just means that they will learn when their time is right, no more, no less...

The Course and Marianne
I have known and known of Marianne Williamson for several years, and know of the inner battles she had until she discovered the Course on Miracles. I believe this book is good for those who have lost sight of our purpose on Earth, and those who may need a swift kick of unconditional love to get them on the right path.Much like Louise Hay, Rayna Gangi, Andrew Weil, and others, Marianne tries to show us that love is possible, necessary, and expected.

It saved my best friend! A must have!
I could sense for a long time that my best friend was going through some serious personal problem but he didn't want to tell me about it. A tremendously intuitive and insightful story
I thought this book was incredible.If you're looking for a work of fiction that tells a woman's story, this is it.It expounds on little known women of the Bible and tells a richly woven tale of the secret intimacies, thoughts, feelings and reflections of what life was like for women during Biblical years.I love this story and would highly recommend it.I thought the audiobook was especially enjoyable because I would've otherwise struggled with the pronunciation of names I am not familiar with.

First Lady of the Healing Arts
Louise is the first lady of the healing arts and hers was one of the first book I ever saw on the subject. It totally changed the way I thought about healing and led to my writing my own book, some 12 years later.
A Must Read!
This book was one of my first experiences with working with The Law of Attraction and the Power of Positivity.Though I first read it over ten years ago, I still use it and recommend it to clients regularly.I also recommend any of Louise's beautiful affirmation card decks... they are attractive reminders to keep thoughts high!
Just what I need...
I have never been big on self-help books; many of them are too stuffy, or technical, or don't really relate to what I'm going through."You Can Heal Your Life" is different. It is easy to read, and well-written, and helps you see/realize/re-affirm that you are the master of your destiny, that only you can change your life, that you are loveable and perfect as you are - and best of all, the process is not "hard" - you just have to be willing to do the mental work.The book gives practical advise, it's non-judgemental, and it's real and true.

I have been a (raving) fan of Ken Blanchard's for many years now, ever since I first read the One Minute Manager. As always, this book presents effective leadership lessons in small, bite-size chunks through story-telling.

Thought provoking - it will enhance your Bible reading
This is the best book I have encountered on the subject of biblical interpretation for the casual or semi-casual reader. It tackles a lot of difficult and potentially controversial subjects in a way that is comprehensible to almost any English speaker with a desire to learn.
Worthy Study
This is a no-nonsense, conservative approach to interpreting the Bible, focusing on what the Bible meant to the ancient audience as a springboard to what it means now.We have a tendency, at least I do, to do hermeneutics (what the Bible means to us) prior to exegesis (what the Bible meant originally). This book makes it clear that we are being copied on ancient literature, and that we have to be sure of what we are reading.Also, some of it is not even meant for direct application, like the book of Acts; even though many first time events took place then, it is not meant to be normative for the church of all time.In a word, the book appeals to a much less self-absorbed approach to studying the Bible.
Exceptionally Helpful
An older revision of this was one of my Bible College textbooks in the early 1980's.It's way better now...and it was very good then.For example, Fee gives clear minded, thoughtful approaches to every type of literature (genre) in the bible.

A Gift to Me!
After seeing his video, The Seven Decisions, I had to have the book.It is entirely different, but with the same message.I then bought three to give as gifts.Andy is a great story teller, and very entertaining.I highly recommend this book, and you'll want to get another one to share (keep your own).

The plot keeps you moving!
I can count on one hand the number of fiction books I've read in the last 10 years, but I couldn't put this one down! It captured my attention from the very first page, and I could relate to the characters immediately. I read it in two evenings. You'll want to keep going to see what happens, especially after the book takes a surprise turn. The other reviewer is correct...it's real without being preachy. And it should speak to the hearts of married women, esp. those of us with good men that we sometimes take for granted. Stevie B smacked me upside my head!
Stephen Baldwin is on fire for Jesus Christ, and boy this book sure makes it contagious! He is considerably younger than me in age, but he is also older and wiser andbiblically grounded. He makes Christianity dare I say, FUN! This is what new life is supposed to be like.His changed life is proof enough for me to believe he is the real deal.This is a book I intend to use to reach my unsaved kids. He speaks on their level and yet never wavers from The Truth.What a blessing.I read this book so fast because I was caught up in his excitement and enthusiasm for Christ.I want to get off my kester and DO SOMETHING for the Kingdom. Thank heavens for helping channel the lord's love, through your book, into my heart. You are an "unusual" blessing. I agree; what good is feeding starving third-world children if they don't accept Jesus Christ as their savior. They are bound to repeat the same mistakes under the influence of satan. Besides, its not like Jesus said he would return first to the downtrodden and the poor of spirit and riches. Oh wait. He did say that. Wait...I've figured it out. God created sleezy celebrity evangelical middle men to skew his own son's teachings, thus testing our faith that all human actions and words are the will of God. Everything is God's will! Everything! Amazing! I can do no wrong. Everything I say and do is part of God's predetermined plan, including my futile attempts to critique this silly pseudo-Christian crusade.

Excellent and inspiring
This book is excellent and well written. Stephen Baldwin's testimony is awesome and the book itself is really a great manual on how to live the Christian life. It is also a great testimony to what God can do through a praying, Christian wife. I appreciate that he is willing to share the life that God delivered him from and also the daily struggles of living the Christian life. The chapter "Who's on First" is brilliant. This book gives glory to God and clearly testifies that the only real positive change we can have in our lives is in a born-again relationship with Jesus. I highly recommend it.

A Messiah and miracle worker with a sense of humor
Moore created a tough challenge for himself as a comic writer by putting a fictional spin on the life of Christ, especially the years between His childhood and ministry that are a wide gap in the Gospels. Yet he succeeds brilliantly in giving the iconic Messiah and miracle worker a human personality with a trait some of His most dour, so-called followers centuries later still lack - a sense of humor. The number of grammatical errors and occasional factual goof (in his epilogue Moore refers to the Book of Revelations, instead of Revelation) are disappointing. Yet, overall, his research is meticulous. For me, the narrative stalled in the middle - where Moore has the Messiah in the Middle East learning Eastern philosophy from the three wise men. Still, "Lamb" is memorable and thoroughly enjoyable.

Delightful and fun!
I couldn't put it down! The scene in the garden, where Joshua first encounters the procrastinating angel, had me laughing so hard.. and then, every time I thought about it. Biff and Joshua are typical boys, growing up and venturing forth in the world. Biff knows his buddy is special and he's always there to cover Josh's back, to encourage and protect, and to discuss those things universal to young men. It's a fun book you'll want to share.

Tooo funny for words!
Are you tired of all the depressing news in the world today? Well, now you can escape for a while by reading Lamb:The Gospel According To Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. I was leary about purchasing this book because of my staunch Catholic upbringing. However, I trusted the Amazon reviewers and once again was rewarded with a fantastic read. Christopher Moore is my kind of nut case. His imagination is incredible and this book was almost impossible to put down. Must Read for Christians
I've been a Christian for years and have always felt that something was "missing" from the American church.Rob Bell's insights have helped my faith feel more real than ever before.This is much better than the religion I've been sold my whole life.I enjoyed the fact that I didn't necessarily agree with everything in the book and that was okay - I was challenged to think some things through.Read this book.Let me say it one more time: read this book.

A Good Base for Jumping Off Into "Real" Christian Faith
Before reviewing the content, I think it is important to note that the covers of the paperback copies I've seen of this all seem to scratch easily.So if you care about the aesthetics of the book, pay the few extra dollars and get the hardback.That being said, here it is:
Hard to know what to make of it
American pastor Rob Bell is a leader in the Emerging Church movement, and this book seeks to apply the principles of postmodernism to the contemporary church. The result is a mixed bag. Much of the book is simply a call to love Jesus more, to rediscover the wonder and mystery of the faith. As such, it is just another book on Christian living, and cannot really be faulted. But it is the over-reliance on the postmodernist framework that is cause for concern.

Essential
This Bible has incorrectly been called everything from 'the PC Bible' to 'the ungodly "bible"'. This Bible, though, is absolutely essential to someone who may not have access to commentaries who needs an historically reliable resource. If it seems 'ungodly' it is because its annotations may differ from what your Sunday school teacher taught you. But remember, this Bible will not teach you the doctrine of any one church; it is ecumenical and (gasp!) allows the reader to make decisions for themselves. The annotations are not infallible any more than the NRSV text is. But they are excellent (as is the NRSV translation) and worth looking at for reliable information.
New Oxford notes are disappointing
I specifically purchased this edition because I have the earlier edition and love the notes (which are extensive).I am disappointed that information from the earlier edition's notes was omitted from these re-written notes, and I am disappointed with this edition's efforts to be more politically correct and skeptical in tone.I find that, despite some excellent notes and commentary in this edition, I am having to read with my two editions side-by-side in order to get what I want from the text.I had hoped that this edition would be adequate for classes in Biblical literature, but it is not; at least, not without considerable supplementation.However, I must admit that I have not found another current edition any better.

I tried reading a different translation of the apocrypha years ago and gave up after a few chapters.This one is very easy to read and understand.While I have not consulted the notes on it much, they are helpful when needed. ... Read more

***** Get the Message: "Stop Suffering and Start Living!" *****
Russell Targ, a physicist as well as paranormal researcher, and J. J. Hurtak, a Judeo-Christian and Buddhist spiritual teacher have written a book of great importance for the rest of us. As they suggest, it is today because we have leaders that are ignorant about our oneness with not only each other but the Creator, they make absurd statements that actually lead to war and untold suffering such as, "Those who are not with us are with the terrorists." The modern physics of nonlocality and remote viewing research all show our potential for experiencing expanded awareness that yield to a deeper understanding of why avatars like Jesus uttered: "If you see me, you have seen God." More so, these authors speak to why the Dalai Lama described Nagarjuna as one of the truly enlightened people of all times and places. Thus, Targ and Hurtak describe a peaceful and joyful path based on these teachings and graciously share them with all who have ears to hear and eyes to see this ultimate truth: "We are one global human being" as the shamans themselves declare worldwide. The Maya priest-shaman use the word "In La'kech," that translates as this profound realization in English, "I am another yourself." For us, "The End of Suffering: Fearless Living in Troubled Times", is a book that unifies the greatest insights of the realms of quantum physics and the greater mystical teachings of the East. In these troubled times, when the synthetic self dominates the false image of society a new lotus of spiritual-scientific wisdom emerges from the muddy depths of the confused web of hyper-specialized reality. Nagarjuna talks to us of the middle way, which takes us into hyper-spatial/temporal realities where we learn to bring the rest of the greater 'Love' story into the sciences. Take it for what it is!
Some writers need to not take themselves so seriously here. This is *not* a textbook on writing or publishing. There's no advice or sage wisdom on plot or character or dialogue or style. Chris doesn't tell you how to format your manuscript so as not to be marked an amateur by a publisher. It never claimed to be that. He tells you up front it's not that. There are hundreds of other books that address these issues.
Try it, I dare you!:)
I purchased Chris Baty's "No Plot? No Problem!" when it came out in 2004, read through it and thought, "hey, I could try this, but maybe later."Well, "later" became two years.I picked it back up this summer, read it cover to cover and picked August as the month in which I would write my next novel in its entirety.I did what Baty said, created a small support group, found plenty of blocks of time, even signed the contract in the book (and I don't write in books!).I was on my way.I threw convention and sense to the wind and finished my first writing day with nearly 1600 words and a cramp in my hand.I could do this.Day 2 I was still optimistic even though I couldn't think of much to say and had just over half of the previous day's word count.So, it'd be harder than I thought, but I could do this.
Great for people just starting out...
There are many of us out there who have never published a novel but who wanted to give an effort to write one.We walk into a book store and search, high and low, for that one perfect book that we believe will help us write that novel.The problem is, which book to buy?

Reading with Heavy Heart
This is indeed a valuable book, which I have not yet finished.I know I'll repeatedly return to it in this very difficult time in my life.Divorced after eight years, with two beautiful children, I hope to derive some healing and strength from it.
Life-changing
This book changed my life.If you have a relationship with someone and they are like Jekyll and Hyde, you're confused, you are depressed--Buy this book.You will understand more after you read it.It has helped me to end 10 yrs. of pain, being told that it was all my fault when I knew I wasemotionally sucker-punched on an almost daily basis-just didn't know why.This is the first time that I really believe it has nothing to do with me.He is sick. I have tried everything I knew to do to make things better-it never worked. Now I know it can't.
An excellent, truly helpful book
I'm not a big fan of the self-help genre in general, but The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists really struck home. I recently broke up with a narcissist for whom I was the codependent, and at a number of points in the book I just had to put it down for a moment and have a "Wow" moment. Not only Payson's descriptions of narcissistic traits (which made me a little uncomfortable, since I recognized some of my own behavior in them) but also her descriptions of the dynamics between narcissists and codependents have the ring of authentic experience; that's really what it's like being with an NPD sufferer. She also made me wonder: was this last one just the tip of the iceberg? Were there more before? Will there be more afterward? Some of this stuff gets pretty scary, but I really couldn't put the book down.
