5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful tool for faithful living
I bought this for my daughter and use it even more than she does. This is a wonderful Catholic interpretation of the Bible and does a great job of explaining Catholic beliefs and traditions in relation to Scripture. It has all 73 books, so it's a complete Catholic Bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Choices
This is a fascinating, entertaining, short read about a group of travellers who take a bus excursion from hell into a place where they are given a chance to go into heaven. Surprisingly, they actually seem to prefer hell. This is not a book about what heaven is like or what hell is like. It's about people like us, and our choices, and how they affect our lives as eternal beings.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bus Ride through Eternity
Admittedly, I have a certain degree of difficulty decoding C.S. Lewis's brand of science fiction/Christian fiction. It is not so much that I can not appreciate his writing as that I have trouble picturing the fantastic concepts that Lewis paints. This being said, I was able to take quite a lot from this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece
I think this is one of Lewis' very best. He attempts in this work to paint a picture of heaven and hell based on his understanding on Christian theology; and what a picture it turns out to be! I found myself captivated from the beginning with the author's depiction of the confines of hell and its inhabitants, which then become a perfect foil for the soul-lifting glory of heaven that he goes on to describe. What makes the work so powerful is the believability of the picture that is painted, despite its speculative nature and imaginative leaps.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life
Shane's book is inspiring, humbling, and truthful.I knew a lot of what he said before but he gives ideas that you can actually use to transform your life into one that God would've wanted Christians to live. After reading his book, I became much more active in things that matter and am passionately involved in the "irresistable revolution" and think that anyone reading it would have a similar experience.Have the faith and courage to do what you ought to (and this book is as good a place as any to start!).

1-0 out of 5 stars First book I could NOT finish.....Same old subject chapter after chapter
The book starts out ok, and makes you want to get up and help the world out. But how many of us can really go and live on the streets? I did not like how he disregards and is negative aboout political leaders and leaders in general.God put these leaders in place for a reason and according to the Bible was should be obedient to the leaders placed above us. It doesn't mean we have to like everything, but we don't need to bash them. Shane is too much on "God is love" and not enough on "we need God because we are sinners".

5-0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary to a non-Christian
If you are a non-Christian or one who has spurned the faith because of the hypocrisy of the church regarding war, the poor, and other issues, then you may find this book a valuable read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay for what it is, but disappointing nevertheless
Strobel does a good job of presenting the case for Christ. By interviewing various scholars ("expert witnesses"), he builds that case in the same way he would build a legal case to take to court. He anticipates each objection, each piece of countering evidence, that the opposing side might introduce, and he deals with these one by one. So far, so good.
3-0 out of 5 stars Hate to lodge dissent
I hate to be a naysayer but as a former agnostic myself I had heard so much good about this book I was anxious to get my hands on a copy. Perhaps it was the buildup that raised my expectations too high. It is not bad for a book of its kind but nothing different from those who have gone before him down this road of apologetics. Many have disagreed with me on this but I do not think it would work well on the serious agnostic or atheist. Many, I think, would consider it an insult to their intelligence. So from the perspective of this Christian reviewer, you might want to look elsewhere for a book to share with friends. This one is helpful as a faith-booster but not a very good faith-inducer in my opinion; fair but no silver bullet of apologetics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for new Christians and athiests
If you believe in God but have doubts that Jesus existed, this is a good book for you.If you don't believe in God this is a good book for you....if you go into it with an open mind.If you are dead set that God doesn't exist and don't want to find out other wise then don't read this book.I like this book because it gives many different scholar's views on various subjects.

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely good read....!
This was even more resourceful than Attitude 101 which I thoroughly enjoyed. I like the references to the past & present leaders, the real subtleties that he makes mention of, and also the quotes he uses. The book has real substance, it's a good read, and well worth the time. Highly recommend it, whether you are a leader, or just an aspiring one.

Ponder's book is, simply put - life-altering!
5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my thoughts on finances, changed my actions, changed my reality!
Catherine Ponder's book is an excellent guideline to abundance thinking and achieving the reality of prosperity. She gives so many great prayers and affirmations of abundance, as a guideline. My favourite is "I stir up the gifts of God within me and around me and I am blessed on every hand with happiness, success and true achievement."

5-0 out of 5 stars Error In Quran?
S18 v86 when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness."
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, and no mistakes
This is a well-attempted translation of the Holy Qur'an.Though some people have issues with 18:86, this is due to their ignorance.the setting of the sun can be used to denote a physical location, ie when i was travelling, the sun set when i reached Anaheim. Also, the arabic word used is 'Wajada' which means "appeared", so it appeared to Zul-Qarnain that it set in a murky marsh. It 'appears' that the sun sets under the hills, but me saying that doesn't take away from my scientific integrity.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mistake in the Koran - Read it Here!!!!!!
One of the questions which puzzled the ancient Arabs was, "Where did the sun go when night time came?" The Qur'an gave them Allah's answer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth About Opus Dei
Whenever I have a question about the Catholic Faith, be it doctrine, dogma, or just Catholic culture I always find myself turning to Dr. Scott Hahn for answers. Whatever the subject, Dr. Hahn seems to have written about it and I feel that I can depend on him for honest answers written in a context that I or anyone else can easily understand. This book written from the perspective of an insider is no exception as the author explains the theology of the supposedly menacing and dark Opus Dei.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE EXTRA-ORDINARY "OPUS DEI" REVEALED BY AN INSIDER!
Five BIG Stars!! Dr. Scott Hahn, the awesome Christian author and idealogue, reveals the theology and inner workings of the supposedly 'mysterious' Opus Dei organization by showing it's impact on his life. Dr. Hahn, a former Protestant minister and Catholic convert, is the author of numerous books, recordings, and makes frequent teaching appearances on the worldwide Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). This is not a hard-hitting investigative or historical book, but a quick but deep religious examination of Opus Dei's "biblical theology and biblical spirituality". Opus Dei is directly translated as "God's Work".

3-0 out of 5 stars Good on scripture, lacking on details
"Becoming a Millionaire God's Way" is an interesting book that takes on the assumption that Christians are to be poor.Author Thomas Anderson (NOT Robert Kiyosaki) examines the assumption and breaks it down through inspection of scripture.
5-0 out of 5 stars wrong by line!
The book isn't actually by Robert Kiyosaki, all he has done is the forward, that was really miss leading. The book is actually by Dr. C. Thomas Anderson. It is good. For the Christian who want to live the life that God has instored for them which is without a doubt full of prosperity.

1-0 out of 5 stars Some good, some aweful...
There are some assertions that Anderson makes that have me wondering. On page 96 the author states that, "If we are not doing our part, He(God) is limited in how much He can do". That's silly, I was under the impression that our God is an all-powerful God who can do anything He chooses to do, regardless of our actions, or lack of the same. I was also deeply troubled by his parenting tip on page 135. Here, he is explaining the importance of teaching self-control. I am all for teaching children self-control. I'm busy teaching my 2 and 4 yr olds how to control themselves. Anderson mentions that this lesson begins at a very young age; for his son, it started at 6 weeks of age when Anderson and his wife opted to feed and change their infant son, and then leave him in a room to cry all night. Anderson states, "He didn't sleep at all the first night. The second night he was sleeping like a baby". Just before this, Anderson mentions that his son was "healthy" and "happy" before being left alone for the night. I would assert this instead: if he wasn't breastfed, then he wasn't healthy. If he was breastfed, then he was healthy, but he sure wasn't happy for long, because breastmilk is digested VERY rapidly, and no more than about 4 hours later, their newborn was aching for another meal. I can only imagine what horrors I might find in his son's book on parenting. To counter the author's fears that children might continue to awaken for snacks in the middle of the night if they aren't "taught" to sleep by their parents: my children never were left to cry alone at night. They were always fed as needed as babies, and both sleep just fine through the night. As for the rest of the book's content, I'm finding some of it helpful, but I imagine I'd find all I needed to know in "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" perhaps without the flawed parenting advice. ... Read more

Miracle cure stories abound when it comes to natural healing. A super nutrient reverses cancer after chemotherapy has failed. A Chinese herb lowers high blood pressure in a patient with heart disease after being dismissed as quackery by doctors. Jordan S. Rubin’s account of returning from the medical abyss, however, includes an original twist. After several years of battling Crohn’s Disease, which included a small fortune spent on both conventional and alternative treatments, as well as trips abroad in search of help, Rubin weighed only 111 pounds and, at just age 21, thought his life was over. At the urging of his father, a naturopath, he contacted an obscure nutritionist in California promoting a diet based on the teachings of the Bible. Yes, we’re talking what Jesus ate: kefir, lamb, sprouted breads, eggs and meat from free-range chickens, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Rubin also started to pray and added a new powder supplement containing homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs) to his diet. Four months later he weighed 170 lbs and was on the road back to his former athletic and healthy self. Inspired by his experience, and now with advanced degrees in nutrition and naturopathic medicine, Rubin has crafted Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars There are better books and then there is also the BEST Book.
I agree with a reviewer that listed "What the Bible Says About Healthy Living" as a better alternative. It is straightforward, simple to understand and Biblical without peddling all the "Clenzology" and supplements on you.You learn the basics in this simple to read book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Maker's diet made my son breath easier...Asthma cure?Maybe.
We are active, not lazy people - so exercise is not our main problem.Diet, anti-biotic use, and the MMR shot I think were our biggest culprits. My son has had severe food allergies, and asthma since he was less than a year old.He needed intravenous antibiotics at birth, and later, was allergic to the MMR shot, but the doctor loaded him up with Benedryl and gave it to him anyways. Most kids who out grow their food allergies have done so by the time they are his current age - age 6.Our son was not getting better as time went on, he was getting worse, and adding more allergies to the list - over 15 different foods now, and almost all the environmental allergies that are available on the scratch test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great advice for business and for everyday life
My husband wants to start his own business. He has the skill to perform the service, but he has a mental block with getting started. This book is the ignition he needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chuck Norris called this book PHENOMENAL...He's Right
One of the best books i've ever read. The author presents hundreds of Solomon's Proverbs covering 15 topics. The chapters on diligence, conflict and adversity, and partnering have been life-changing for me.And his chapter on deferred hope gives the most enlightening revelation on why relationships fall apart that I have ever heard.Thankfully he also shows Solomon's answers for restoring broken relationships.Reading the chapters on the booby traps to success and the number one cause of financial loss helped me to understand why some of my past efforts had failed so miserably.I only wish I had found this book 20 years ago.I too wish that Scott would have covered all 46 categories of Proverbs, but doing so would have probably resulted in a thousand page book.I'm a Christian, so I really loved his last chapter, but unlike the reviewer before me, Scott said right at the beginning of the book that the laws of life revealedin Proverbs can be used by Christian and non-Christian alike to achieve many of Solomon's promised outcomes.I 'll be giving out lots of copies of this book this Christmas.I can't think of a better gift to give to those I care about most.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT worth the money
"The Richest Man Who Ever Lived" by Steven K. Scott, I thought, would be a good buy.It was the farthest thing from a good buy.The premise of this book is imparting the wisdom of King Solomon to the masses by way of the Bible's book of Proverbs. That is at least how the book is marketed. Here are my problems with this book.First, there were plenty of good things in the book up to a point (page 244) when he states that he had divided up the book of Proverbs into 46 categories. And then proceeds to tell us that he has only presented 15 of these categories. In other words, he published an incomplete book. And it does little good to tell people, "think of the incredible insights that await you."Hey, Stevie Unwonder, I bought the book to get YOUR insights, not go through the thing myself.I probably should have done that to begin with, because I would have saved myself a lot of money.Second, he doesn't even use the Jewish bible, the Tanakh, for his source, but rather relies on the most perverted form of the Bible, the King James Version, not to mention other xian-dogma-infested version...Revised Standard, New American Standard, New International Version.NO!You MUST go to the original Hebrew for a correct understanding. And if you don't know Hebrew, the Orthodox Union publishes the entire Tanakh in Hebrew and English translation UNTOUCHED.These other so-called translations have had things altered that aren't in the original, so the sourcing isn't even correct.Third, he gets to the point where he says that the only way to honor G-d is by becoming a xian.In other words, he basically says that none of the things he has presented in his book will work unless you are a xian first. And then he gets to sounding like a crazed southern-baptist preacher during a summer-time tent revival.Talking about how Jesus said that, and how Jesus said this.I didn't buy the book to hear what Jesus said.I could care less what he supposedly said.I bought the book to read about Solomon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Release your faith and LIVE!
The Barbarian Way: Unleash the Untamed Faith Within by Erwin Raphael McManus is a quick-reading devotional with enormous power.McManus looks at faith in a way I never have before. His faith is not a restrained, quiet faith, but an in-your-face strength that wants to change the world. He uses Scripture often to reinforce his views, as well as personal anecdotes both amusing and on occasion disturbing.I'm not sure that I'm ready to embrace the barbarian within me, but this book would make an excellent Bible study for youth. It encourages believers to break out of the box churches have imposed upon belief and truly live as Jesus meant us to.Enthralling reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Live the Adventure!
Erwin's straight forward style and honest stories made for a refreshing and encouraging read. If you want your life out of a "churchy" rut and back into God's adventure towards the world, The Barbarian Way is just the ticket.
5-0 out of 5 stars Kick in the Pants Christianity
So how can you be both Barbarian and Christian?Isn't becoming a more Christian person supposed to tame us and tone us down?McManus offers helpful and challenging insights into the reasons that the real vibrant counter-cultural Christianity modelled by Jesus has been toned down and domesticated. Then he challenges us to get back to the Barbarian Way of following Jesus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brief Opinion
The newest edition of this book has some great qualities about it, namely the interactive cd to be utilized as a study aid (the flash card section was beneficial to me), the variety of objects chosen to represent the period/culture have improved, in my opinion, from the other editions as the book has updated archaeological finds. The only disappointing feature I found was in the text itself. The "extra" information boxes including explination of ancient religions and preservation techniques were facinating, but the bulk of text I found to dance around the point. It kept trying to be politically correct, such as changing Venus of Willendorf to Woman of Willendorf. Granted this new take is supposed to account for counter arguments against the purposes of certain objects, but I found that in the attempt to be objective there was a loss of passion for the object and culture itself. I also found that the terminology the book chose to define within the text was unneccessary (vocabulary such as hypostyle hall needs to be defined, not vocab such as carbon dating). However, overall the book holds to the tradition of the series by displaying stunning visual images (all objects are in colour no less!)and the information presented is rather informative, even if the style of writing is "too correct" in some places. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book is one that my daughter needed to have as a requirement for religion class, but one that she will keep for years to come. It is really well written, and on a teenage level, not as if someone "old" wrote it for them. There are many helpful items contained inside from peer pressure to religious beliefs that will benefit her throughout her teen years.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best period.
We compared this and the St. Mary's Press Catholic Youth Bible. This is simply more complete and thorough from a Catholic standpoint. The colorful and thematic pages really re-enforce positive and upbeat Catholic thinking and practice of the faith from a teen's perspective. The authors did an outstanding job of writing on a teen's level and choosing pertinent subjects to address. It is also the lowest cost Catholic Youth Bible on the market that we found. We highly recommend this Bible for Catholic youth and those who instruct them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this Bible for your child or student!
This is a great bible for Catholic students! I use this in my Confirmation class and it works very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars real stories from real churches: a guidebook for authentic community
Diana Butler Bass' book offers hope to neighborhood churches everywhere and points the way toward healthy, vibrant, faithful Christian community. As a young adult, I yearn for a Christianity that is rooted in tradition, yet filled with the Spirit of the living God --- a Christianity that is aware and responsive to the needs, concerns and hopes of this aching planet. Diana shares real stories from real churches all around the country seeking to live the gospel way of life --- feeding, forgiving, healing, reconciling and transforming.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Clarion Call to Revitalize the Church
Anyone who feels that only evangelical megachurches are capable of increasing in membership should pick up a copy of Dr. Butler-Bass' most recent book. "Christianity for the Rest of Us" This book, which contains the results of her seminal sociological study of exploring vitality in mainline congregations, disproves the commonly held theory that the mainline church is either dead or on life support. Throughout the book, Dr. Butler-Bass sheds valuable insight on why some moderate to progressive mainline churches are indeed thriving. She dedicates chapters to explore the common characteristics such as hospitality, social justice, and worship that she discovered in these mainline churches that are growing and expanding. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend!!
I cannot say enough about this book and the impact it has had on me as a daughter of our Heavenly Father. I felt it was a bit depressing in the beginning, and found some of the personal accounts almost hard to believe, but once I got past those, it was a big "aha!" I have never felt comfortable around women, don't trust them. This book has helped me to see women the way God sees women. I long for every Christian woman to read this--it is life-altering! Now that I have a daughter, it is even more important for me to pass on to her how God cherishes her. And I value her the way God values us as women. Knowing that I didn't want a daughter, my friend told me that having a daughter will help me to see how God sees me. I've never forgotten that, and reading this has given me hope for resolution with my mother. And hope for a better relationship with my daughter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent theology -- gets to the heart of all things
Excellent book!Gets to the heart of a woman's heart and to her relationship with men, with other women, and with God.Very empowering.Very healing. This book exalts God and helps us to understand who we really are and are meant to be.As a Christian egalitarian, I found the book empowering for both my husband and I and a resource for discovering greater strengthening and intimacy in our Christ-centered covenant of marriage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating is Captivating
I couldn't disagree more with one of the previous reviewers.I think this book is very insightful. It helps a woman to understand just how much God loves her and to realize that her life isn't ONLY about service to others. What I'm learning is more about how much He wants me to heal and to wake up to His unconditional Love - to be alive in Him and in my relationship with Him - to learn to TRULY trust Him as my Lord and Savior and Lover of my soul.If I learn more about His Love for me, and I learn to better love Him, I will better follow Him. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A whole new perspective
This book answered many questions I have had for years: about myself, about the church; about Christianity. It launched me on a search for these things that has been very enlightening.I highly recommend getting the Field Guide to Wild at Heart which will help make the things in the book a very personal experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars wild at heart
I have not finished this book as I am writing this. I can say the first 40 pages are worth the purchase price. Eldredge really seems to know how a man is to relate to Jesus. Its fairly obvious he enjoys a healthy relationship with our risen savior Jesus--and shows that we all can. Read it......if you dare. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Power Of Love
This book is a testament to Our Lord Jesus Christ and how His love frees people from Satan's grasp.Mr. Shoebat was brought up learning to hate.In this book he stated, 'My lullibies and many of the poems we memorized were about flying body parts and rolling heads'.Sweet.This is the influence of Islam in Arab lands. He now preaches a different gospel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good information
There is a lot of excellent information - quotes from various sources, excerpts from the Koran, etc. - but I had expected a somewhat different book.I thought it would be about his experiences as a terrorist, what the terrorist organization was like from the inside, and his effort to remove himself from it.It really is a book about what Islam really is and then a long part at the end is an interpretation of End Time references in the Bible. There is nothing personal in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read which will help one think Biblically
What an excellent book with many things I had never heard before!Be prepared to rethink many of your assumptions concerning the end times.Gives good reasons to support why I am a Christian Zionist.God has spoken, and His Word is clear. The book ties together Israel's prophets and the book of Revelation. If I had to recommend one book on prophecy, this would be it!As Walid Shoebat says, "To all who seek Israel's destructiion, I say, 'Think Again.'" ... Read more
