5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Content
Pema is very funny and personable. She cuts throught it and gets to the point with excellent real world examples. What she gives on this CD is something that you can use everyday. Her discussion on "Shenpa" was worh the price of the CD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Changing Your Perspective
Don't go into situations with specific expectations or you may end up frustrated and angry. The book helps you learn to roll with the punches. We find ourselves in such a rush and that puts extra pressure on ourselves (and the others around us).
5-0 out of 5 stars You Don't Have to be Buddhist to Get a Lot From This.
I found myself getting stuck in repetitiousthought patterns even after decades of meditation practice. This audio book is one of the best teachings I've ever heard and can apply to anyone with an open mind who is ready to find thekeys to get unstuck.I speak from my experience and the experience everyone I know who listens, to it.I hear things like "life altering changes"."Getting Unstuck" is awesome. Done with a good sense of humor and lots of down to earth wisdom,Pema Chodron has outdone herself with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars In the Gap with Dr, Wayne Dyer
This book & CD set is a great way to cope with your daily stressors with out the use of medications. Dr. Wayne Dyer has over 300 products on the market and this book takes you to an even a higher awareness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting in the Gap: Making conscious Contact with God Through Meditation
This is a great little book for keeping oneself in a state of positive being. It is small enough to be kept close by at all times to be referenced when needed at different times during the day.Dr. Dyer is an exceptional educator in the area of spirituality. This book is small but full of information for spiritual growth.I would highly recommend it to the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's nice in the Gap
I really liked the peaceful fun feeling you get while reading this book. Very informative and well written. The book itself is like a showpiece I leave it out for anyone to read. Getting in the Gap and Japa are very effective forms of meditation, and with Wayne's help you instantly achieve higher levels of meditation with out the years of sitting around humming.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Introduction andResource
The workbook, two guided meditation CD's and study guide provide the beginner to Vipassana (Insight) meditation with all they need to begin and sustain their meditation practice. Theory and practice wrapped up in one package. For content and price it is hard to beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars So this is meditation!!!
A great tool to help learn about meditation and put it into practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good introductory meditation series
There are many things I liked about this guided meditation series.I particularly liked the way the walking meditation was presented.I haven't heard this explained very well on other audio resources, so this was a value add for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga Nidra Meditation CD
I have been using Yoga Nidra in my teaching work for years and find this CD to be a very useful addition, informationally and practically as far as the meditation included on the CD is concerned.
5-0 out of 5 stars It really works
Every time I come home from work and feel stress, overwhelming with the everything, I just turned this CD on and started my meditation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers the goods
A friend recommended this CD. I do not know the author, either. I have used it daily for the past month and love it. I like the fact that there is only a voice directing me through the meditation, it helps to focus. If I use it a night, I fall asleep immediately and sleep without interruption until morning (unless my cat wants to be let out early). Alternatively, I use it in the late afternoon to relax from the stress of the day, before beginning evening chores. I am a yoga practitioner and have also felt its benefits in my asana practice. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Complicated and Deep
This is a good exposition of mindfulness theory and practice. Althought a novice therapist will find the text useful, most of the insight gained by reading this text will be achieved by therapists with 5 to 10 years actual practice under their belts. I would advise novice therapists to buy this book immediately and then delve into each chapter several times per month for the next few years. They will never regret it. The problem and promise on this book is that it requires you to go back and review each concept of your original training, whether it is Adlerian, Freudian, Cognitive or Christian. Mindfulness is the goldplating overlay that makes your therapy more valuable.

5-0 out of 5 stars a wise, invaluable resource
This well-written, wise, accessible book will help novice and seasoned therapists incorporate mindfulness practice into their clinical work, skillfully and thoughtfully. The editors and contributors provide a range of expert perspectives on the role of mindfulness in psychotherapy and convey the complexity of good psychotherapy, mindfulness practice, and the union of the two. The clarity with which they accomplish this is remarkable. The depth of their personal and professional expertise and experience is evident throughout. Inclusion of a thorough review of current research in the area is another notable strength of the volume.I highly recommend this book to clinicians and researchers interested in the powerful role that mindfulness may play in psychological healing. It is essential reading for anyone interested in this highly promising area of study.
5-0 out of 5 stars A special collection about nothing special
As a psychotherapist for 30 years and a mindfulness practitioner for nearly 10 years, I have read a lot of good books and articles on both subjects."Mindfulness and Psychotherapy" is as clear and helpful in both disiplines as any I have encounted. The editors have done a 'mindful' job in selecting from an array of perspectives.Mindfulness is defined and contextualized for our western psychotherapeutic practice, while also placed in an historical and cultural framwork that informs and enlightens our understanding. Indeed the more philosophical essays are perhaps the strongest pieces in this marvelous compendium. We are reminded that the Buddah saw himself as a physician who sought to diagnose and find a cure for human suffering.Out of his own intimate encounter with suffering, he devised and revised a program that we in western psychological science are just now testing and finding curative-both for our clients and for ourselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful introduction to mindfulness meditation
I'm sad to see a reviewer be so judgmental about this audio - especially one who claims to respect the teachings of the Buddha. These guided meditations are accessible for anyone, without the baggage of what some might call a religion - Buddhism. (For me, it's a philosophy more than a religion, and I have learned more about Buddha and his teachings because of these audios.)As cassette tapes, these audios were my introduction to the practice, and they resonated for me then, and still do after 13 years.
1-0 out of 5 stars a dumbed-down version of old Buddhist texts - ex. Satipatthana Sutta
It's very disappointing to read/listen to individuals who take old buddhists texts and re-interpret the texts as their own.Kabat-Zinn borrows so much and rarely mentions Buddhism.Pitiful.For those critically evaluating the book/audio, it's useful to note that many of these new ideas are actually old ones; simply because no one has a copyright on old buddhist texts doesn't imply that we can without impunity stealthily borrow their ideas without citation.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was disappointed by the lack of creativity brought to this expensive set of cd's.I'm sorry to say, "Guided Mindfulness Meditation" was silent, and slow going.Metaphors, stories, nuggets, and music were missing. My first purchase of Dr. Kabat-Zinn's work was the audiotape, "Wherever You Go There You Are".Dr. Kabat-Zinn did a great job here through his use of voice, music, and text.He was able to transport me to a peaceful state, his soothing voice lyrically illustrating relaxation metaphors.Soothing music was the backdrop for his interesting approach mixing together fact and story.I was hoping "Guided Mindfullness Meditation" would be just as inviting. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Teacher
Pema Chodron has a wonderful kind voice. Her teaching on these CD is a gentle introduction to Buddhism for the lay person.I found great solace in her words and her voice.Like the Dalai Lama and Thubten Chodron, Pema Chodron's laughter is an expression of pure joy.The genuine joy that I hear in their laughters is proof that Buddhism will help me, and indeed it has helped me.

5-0 out of 5 stars I definitely agree with the other reviews on this cd!
Everything that everyone has said is definitely true. This cd is teaching me a new way of approaching the world that I never would have thought possible. Even when I'm not listening to the cd, whenever I am in a really stressful situation like sitting in traffic or working to meet deadlines, I just imagine the cd. I automatically feel completely relaxed, like I can deal with whatever comes my way. Then when I get home I just pop the cd in, let go of all the day's stresses, and just get back in touch with myself. I bought this cd after reading the reviews, too, and I wasn't led astray! I recommend this to anyone who deals with stress on a daily basis (which is pretty much anyone), and I am going to get copies for all of my family members and friends because I definitely have some friends who need to chill out. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars R & R
A friend reccomended Yoga Nidra to me after I was complaining about always feeling tired and overwhelmed.I think alot of people deal with the same problem everyday. With three kids, a husband, and as the principal of a highschool it is so difficult to turn your mind off and realx.Even when I had a rare minute to relax I wasn't able to utilize it because my mind was always running.I went ahead and tried Yoga Nidra. It took a few times to really get into it but now I love it.I do it a few times a week before work and I can definitely feel the difference.I feel more alert at work and I think it has helped my patience with the kids at home and at school.I feel like I am more energized and it has helped me to be able to just do my day better.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Level of Awareness
A coworker referred me to this CD.Thank you Larry.I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. This guide has helped me successfully work through emotional issues that have clouded my happiness.Funny, every time I listen to the CD it is like a different first time experience. It has helped me to open up and put my energies of love and sorrow "out there".They have come back to me 10 fold in only positive ways.Best wishes to all. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The WORST meditation cd I have EVER experienced!
This cd is a complete WASTE OF MONEY!
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent introduction to meditation on the breath
This is the best cd I've ever tried for practicing "breathing" meditation.Bodhipaksa leads you through some common sense exercises focusing on the breath. His voice is gentle and soothing. This is a great cd for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soothing, Focusing, Relaxing
Bodhipaksa's soothing voice with a slight Scottish bur is marvelous to listen to and helps with the acceptance of the meditative journey that he takes his listeners on.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK!
Want to meditate? Can't meditate. Tried to meditate? Can't meditate. Gave up on ever meditating ... until I found this book in the bookstore (or it found me!). I'm 4 weeks into it and can't believe it (since I'm a master procrastinator). And, I already feel the benefits. This book is so clear, concise and speaks directly to the "real" questions beginning meditators have (even "what do I do if I have to pee!")
4-0 out of 5 stars Meditation

Editorial Review

If you'd like to read about meditation and then go back to your regular life, don't get this book. Henepola Gunaratana, a monk from Sri Lanka and venerated teacher of Buddhism, warns us that vipassana meditation is "meant to revolutionize the whole of your life experience." In one of the best nuts-and-bolts meditation manuals, he lays out the fundamentals of basic Buddhist meditation, the how, what, where, when, and why, including common problems and how to deal with them. 5-0 out of 5 stars Just what it says
This is the next best thing to a meditation teacher. The book is a manual and trouble shooting guide to shamatha/vipassana meditation.A simple and powerful technique which has gradually and profoundly changed my life for the better. If you do not have access to a meditation instructor, or don't want to, get this simple and clear instruction manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Life-Changing Book that you will read over and over and give to anyone you care about
I've read this book along with his subsequent book, Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness, multiple times and consult parts of both on regularly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great 1st Meditation Book
I loved this book after reading great reviews of it. I'd just like to add that it's a great one for giving to friends who are interested in learning about meditation but have no idea where to begin. I gave a copy of this away after a couple I knew both responded positively to it after reading the first few chapters. It's the first book I want to read again to get back to having a daily practice. Meditation is work, but this book addresses the hurdles and pitfalls well and will help you get the ball rolling. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Different methods of meditation
This book an overview of the major different meditation paths and would appeal to those who have a questioning mind - its analysis of the various paths is quite objective. If you are looking for general guidelines and a justification of the positive aspects of meditation this book is definitely worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Overview of Meditation Practices
In THE MEDITATIVE MIND: THE VARIETIES OF MEDITATIVE EXPERIENCE Daniel Goleman does an even more comprehensive job of covering his subject matter than William James did in his classic study of relgion,THE VARIETIES OF RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE. Goleman covers a wider range of experiences and -- given that psychology has come a long way since James'day -- provides a more detailed analysis. This book ranks with Aldous Huxley's THE PERENNIAL PHILOSOPHY as a modern classic on spiritual paths. He makes a good case for meditation as an ancient "psychotechnology" (my words, not his) for the transformation of consciousness. He cuts through the superficial differences in meditative practices, and points out what all of them shareat the core: the retraining of attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars A complete path
I found this book 5 years ago and have really not found another book which is better at describing complete path with such clarity, and richness.I think this book is extremely helpful for all meditators who are interested in seeing where they are on the path. For without a map, it is extremely easy for any meditator to become lost and not make any real progress. This book in my opinion can also be used to assess the presence of authentic teachers, someone who has traversed at least 4 levels of absorption, have seen validity attachment in cause of suffering, have begun purification of their bodies as well as their minds, and have experienced true emptiness and not fallen into attachment afterwards. ... Terrific 2 CD set - enjoyable to listen to, highly informative, short and sweet. You are on your way to using the techniques immediately.Nice addition to my "arsenal" of self-healing techniques.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I am just a beginner at Meditation, and I am trying to learn this for my health.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to meditation
This is a solid introduction to the practice of meditation. The first disc features Weil and Kabat-Zinn giving background information about meditation. The second disc features guided meditations. Like any spiritual practice, the more information an individual gets, the better he or she becomes at that practice. This set of discs is a good starting point that will get a person going into meditation immediately, which might lead the listener to pursue additional materials about spirituality. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book is the most comprehensive book I have read.It truly helps the newbies that are interested in pilates.I have a better understanding of my body and it has helped me truly understand pilates and how it affects my body, not just my core.I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in pilates.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must read!!!
Pelvic Power is an awesome book to read and apply to your life. My once awful sciatica is now non-existent thanks to proper care and the aid of this book. I found areas in my pelvic floor region that needed attention that normally dancers don't even think about during our careers!! THe flexibility and control is remarkable and the results are immediate. I look forward to enjoying a very ahppy married life in the future, LOL!!

5-0 out of 5 stars best exercise book purchase ever
This book has helped me more than a very expensive pelvic floor workshop I attended which just taught me how to become tense. These are the best fourteen bucks I have spent in exercise literature. The book has to be slowly digested and paced to fully grasp the content. The explanations are simple and the visuals are wonderful, but the simplicity is deceptive: the subtle movements require complete calm and focus. I have a lot of problems around the pelvic/hip/lumbar region and these exercises are a treasure to me. I feel I have only started taping into the benefits they can bring if done correctly. I keep coming back to the book and the exercises again and again. Totally recommended! ... Read more

The advice, case studies and 44 practical exercises are worth the money for this book. Mr. Hewitt gives sage advice in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK FOR BEGINNERS-COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN
I liked this book as it touched on the basics of psychics. If you are looking for something deeper, this isn't it. But if you are just learning about it, this is a great starter book. The cases are excellent along with the topics and exercises. Well put together.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great beginner's guide!
If you are looking for some quick and easy exercises to bring out or enhance your innate psychic ability, this is your book. I consider it a "must-have" for anyone. I actually read it pretty much in one sitting! The book contains many exercises and meditation techniques which in many cases can be done almost anywhere, anytime. With just a little practice and perserverance, they really do pay off!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Philosophers/Theologists/Thinker of our time
I feel in my opinion to find A. Watts as 'one of' the greatest philosophers of our time to be just as plausible to say Quine, Kripke, Russell, or even Ren? Descartes and Goethe to be 'one' of the greatest philosophers of our time (and I assure you I'm not a minority of one to think so).
5-0 out of 5 stars Basically this is my "bible"
I don't mean to be irreligious with this title, obviously Alan Watts' CD's are not to be put on the same level as "The Bible" but as someone who has sought answers for most of my life, the set of CD's came as something of a godsend.
5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A TREASURE!!
I don't think I could begin too put into words how wonderful these cd's are! If you are a fan of Alan Watts this collection is a must! His books are great, but to hear him speak puts his discourses on a whole new level. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb presentation of many basic Vajrayana practices
After having enjoyed Pema Chodron's wonderful video set "Good Medicine" (6305642842), Her "Noble Heart" set of 6 cassettes was greatly enhanced.I could picture her orchestrating this retreat at her Monastery in Eastern Canada. That is exactly how this tape set is arranged. She provides an enjoyable, enthusiastic lecture with examples, stories, personal experiences, input from her Master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, etc.For each of the 12 segments (sides of cassettes) she also includes meditations and visualizations as appropriate.Topics include:
