5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiration to my Art Students!
Last year I used this book as a resource for a special high school art unit that I developed entitled "Sacred Circles."In addition to learning about circular artwork in various cultures and world religions, students used Judith's beautiful illustrations and step by step guides to create mandalas of their own. (...) This is a book that I still have available in my classroom and students continue to refer to it (independently!) to advance their drawing techniques.SO glad I bought this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Radiantly Inspiring
The beauty of the mandalas pictured in the book intimidated me because ithad been so many years since I'd created any art.I didn't think I coulddo it.But I did it and I'm extremely grateful to Judith Cornell forwriting this book.Working on the exercises at home, alone, is not thesame experience as it would be in a group. The group can offer a creativesupport level that helps each individual surpass previous achievements. However, I'm so happy with the mandalas I created as a result of theseexercises that I've put each one up on the wall. And, even more important,I've continued to draw.No more creative blocks for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly AWE inspiring!
Mandala: Luminous Symbols for Healing, by Judith Cornell, is absolutelythe most incredibly beautiful book I've ever held in my hands.Holding andlooking at it, even before reading, is like a sacred experience. Is it thebeauty of the lay-out and illustrations? The very real spiritual impact ofthe mandalas presented, both historical and contemporary?A moment ofhealing even in the first moment's gasp of awe while browsing its pages? One even begins to caress its binding. One of my favorite activities nowis to present it to friends and watch their faces--their eyes pop open, their jaws drop in amazement--and hear the quick intake of breath as itscolor begins to radiate into their awareness.Beyond the first impression, reading took me to awesome depths and insights regarding ultimate reality, syntheses I'd previously long puzzled.Don't miss this dazzling yet holyexperience.Look, read, and practice the simple yet brilliantart-as-at-one-ment exercises for the depth of your life. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars depths of perception
This book carries you into depths of perception, but uses simplicity as its guide. Steiner appears to believe in slow and easy, yet persistant. If one is willing, this book offers a way into the connection of our higher forces, and how they act upon us, through us, with us. With exact despription of techniques and understanding towards the goal, this literature begs the reader to come to your own comprehension. Out of your own experience, within this framework, on should find the way to higher perception, and contented understanding. If you're for real, this information is for real....give it a try

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to show you the way
Steiner explains in this great guide the reasons why we should walk the spiritual path to self-realization and how this happens if we so decide find the courage to do it.He talks about karma, higher beings, higher worlds, reincarnation, initiation, etc based on his own experiences. He also gives manypractical excercises in it.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Manual for Living in this World
Even if one is not interested in knowing about and experiencing higher worlds, this book is a great guide to living, full of wisdom and insight. A true spiritual path is also a path toward becoming a mature human being, which may not be terribly exciting to people seeking spiritual fireworks or wanting to promote egoistic aims. This path is one of selflessness and the strengthening of attention; both needed in an self-centered world suffering from an ever increasing attention deficit disorder. Steiner only speaks of what he has experienced personally. He is not a guru and expects no one to take his word for the truth of what he says. He encourages one to be open minded, try the exercises with patience and consistency(harder than one might think)and verify the truth for one's self. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing Perspective
After reading Moore's "Care of the Soul," I decided to move on to his teacher, James Hillman. And I am glad I did.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Inappropriateness of Myths for Adults
Hillman is a provocative author with many keen insights, but not unlike many psychologists in the Jungian tradition, he cannot refrain from the use of Myths. I deliberately capitalized the word Myth, because it more often than not is the problem, not the resource to resolution. Don't misunderstand me! Myths have figured heavily in all civilizations for their power to "see" something that is often otherwise not apparent. Moreover, myths are the backbone of civilizing humanity, telling stories, usually morality tales, that provide an insight that more direct discourse and narrative cannot capture. These Myths have a limited use, primarily for children, whose immaginations are charged by the peculiarity of the story, and through that peculiarity perceive a "truth" about life. Aesop's fables are perhaps paradigmatic, but other Myths exist too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Edgar Cayce's Story of Jesus
Anyone that is familar with Edgar Cayce's work will regard this book as authentic information. I read this books years ago and at the time it was a learning experience. I found the Readings in the book helped me understand and except myself. To me the book helps explain the individuals relationship to our Maker. The book is easy to read and understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREATER AWARENESS !! UNDERSTANDING HERE
I have read other books by authors that have compiled Edgar Cayce's material. In comparison, Jeffery Furst has done a great job here.I love this book!!!It strengthened my awareness and understanding on the human race and our relationship with the Creator, Jesus, Angels and many others. I truly felt morelove in my heart for self and others, our connectedness, Law Of The One.
1-0 out of 5 stars Read this book. You will like Jesus the Christ.
I am not a Christian the way your traditional doctrines define Christian. However, I do believe in The Christ. He is an amazing role model for us all.Knowing about his real story does not change that.It shouldn't change that.Cayce's information fills in many gaps left by the Bible. For those who choose to use the Bible as their only source, this book will scare them because it shakes the foundations upon which their faith is based.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the very best books on early Christianity
David Fideler, PhD, has written a seminal work on ancient understandings of the cosmos and early Christian symbolism.Delving into sacred geometry, astronomy, and gematria, he explores the ancient world with meticulous scholarship and groundbreaking research and ideas.Replete with extensive diagrams and clear explanations, even for the lay person, this book is a must read for anyone interested in what really was indicated by many myths and parables of antiquity.

5-0 out of 5 stars An astonishing book - recommended
I pick up this book regularly at easter time and re read some of the wisdom of proportion it contains. Selecting chapters and appendices to combine with my current projects and other reading material. Synthesis is the name of my game. This year I have synthesised ancient gematria and divine proportion into a sales seminar.

5-0 out of 5 stars What kind of review?
Are there words to be found for this book? I wish courage to all those who want to give it a try and read it. Life gets different after the experience...

5-0 out of 5 stars A Philosophy of Spiritual Activity
This is a new translation of Rudolf Steiner's most important work.It has an especially good introduction by Gertrude Hughes Reif. However, I preferred the two older titles: "Philosophy of Freedom" and"Philosophy of Spiritual Activity" because the significance ofthe experience of the book comes across better for me with those titles. This is not a book that can be "read" in the usual sense.Itmust be worked on because it forces you to think about your own thinking. Through this difficult process you yourself discover your spiritual self, your "I" being. This book should be the most important book ofthe last 100 years, but it hasn't been because there are not many peoplewho want to discover themselves. That is too fearful and difficult. It ismuch easier to be asleep or to belong to a religion or to have a guru.Foranyone who is brave and courageous about "Know Thyself!" this isTHE book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever wondered how you KNOW anything?
Perhaps one of the most significant questions you can ask in your life:How can I know anything? How can I feel sure that what I hold as the basisfor reality has any reality at all? These and other significant lifequestions are worked through in this remarkable philosophical work. Beprepared to do your own work as you follow the intuitive path that has beencarefully outlined by Rudolf Steiner. The careful reader will find fewbooks more deeply satisfying. I have returned to re-read it many times. ... Read more

This is one of the easier of Steiner's books to read that I've found so far.It gives good information on how to live your life more effectively, including a simple way to develop a reliable memory.I particular appreciated the passage where he explains why we suffer. In looking over this book in order to write this review, I realize that it is a book that would be well to read more than once, not because it's hard to understand, but because its wisdow is so worthwhile that it needs to become a part of me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The classic book on the Chakras!
If you ever wanted a serious and reputable book on the Chakras, then look no further because Leadbeater's classic book covers everything you need to know fundamentally about them. 5-0 out of 5 stars A good first read on the spiritual topic of the chakras.
This book is important as a Western account of what is essentially anEastern concept. The chakras are very important energy centres in humans, and are used in meditation and in cognition of the inner worlds. Leadbeater's book is fairly easy to read, and has really good colourillustrations which have since been often quoted and reproduced many timesover the last 70 years. This book was written in the 1920s when thesubject was little known in the Western world.Much of the material wasobviously obtained from Hinduism, as the chakras are easy to seeillustrated in temples in India.I must say I prefer Dr Hiroshi Motoyama'smore comprehensive and recent book, but Leadbeater really did pave the waywith this one.I recommend it and give it five stars in the historical anduseful context. It's a great introduction to the subject. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction
This book is an excellent introduction to the views of Theosophy, which in many respects is not a religion or a philsophy; it is a helpful guide to distinguish and compare theosophy both to the world religions as they are practiced and the "secret wisdom" that is also found in all world religions. As another reviewer remarked, the Glossary is a very helpful set of definitions for learning further about the theosophical perspective.

Editorial Review

In a time when Christian women mystics are at last being discovered, Julian of Norwich still stands out as one of the most essential--and one of the most approachable. An anchoress who lived in solitude in Norwich, England, in the late 14th century, Julian's book consists of the 16 "showings" or revelations from God. Most famous is her vision of the universe as she gazes into the smallness of a hazelnut, but the book is rich throughout with beauty. Her style is simple and homely in its images, not unlike the later St. Teresa of Avila. "God almighty is our loving Father," she writes, "and God all wisdom is our loving Mother." She affirms, "our substance is in God, and ... God is in our sensuality." For Julian God is the foundation of all that is, and the foundation of God is love. As she concludes, "What, do you wish to know your Lord's meaning in this thing? Know it well, love was his meaning. Who reveals it to you? Love. What did he reveal to you? Love. Why does he reveal it to you? For love."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Medieval Mystics In Person
Julian of Norwich is only one of the medieval mystics who attempted to record the unspeakable, that without words, the mystical experience. This book is a record of what she dictated of her experiences, her "showings" of Christ and her relationshp with Him. It gives us insight into the workings of a medieval woman's mind and soul, and into the nature of mysticism itself, something beyond what words can measure.5-0 out of 5 stars God as mother, God as Love
All that's known about Julian of Norwich was that in 1373 a woman lay, at age 30, on her deathbed. The woman did not die, but instead received a series of visions of Christ's passion. These visions are what is recordedin this book in both short (written more closely after the incident) andlong (written much later, after more contemplation) versions. She thenbecame an anchoress living as a recluse in a cell attached to thechurchyard of St. Julian in Norwich.4-0 out of 5 stars valuable reading
Julian of Norwich's Showings is yet another indispensable volume in "The Classics of Western Spirituality" series. It contains the sixteen visions given to Julian who lived alone as an Anchoress in late14th-early 15th century England. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Truth
I find Steiner's work invigorating.Theosophy requires you to THINK, unlike much of the New Age drivel on the bookshelves today.Steiner was obviously a man with a great gift of sight and I feel blessed that he has shared so much with us through his writing.
1-0 out of 5 stars Rubbish
Read "Integral Yoga" by Sri Aurobindo ( the most famous and sought-out Yogi of the modern era ) and then re-read this "thing" and you'll see what I mean when I describe this book as rubbish. And no, "Integral Yoga" is not bending and stretching and funny breathing techniques, its about realizing the divine and then bringing it into a workable condition in day-to-day mundane affairs.
1-0 out of 5 stars Steiner's succienct work stinks
There was found to be no original thought put into this writing. Copied from many other authors and in his 'succienct' writtings, he misses out on the One true picture. While covering such a broad subject, one can only draw to the conclusion that plagerism on such a matter as this one could only have been hoped for! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars too bad it's out of print....
....because it's nicely written, zeroing in as it does on the things and details in life: light on theory, thick on getting the most out of the phenomenology of everyday experience.5-0 out of 5 stars Seeing a Different View of Reality
Sardello begins his discussion of Soul of the World by framing his observations in a series of "Letters" to the reader. They are essays which begin with an explanation of What is World Soul?; include thetopics of the built environment, education, medicine, money, technology, things, violence, beauty, and food; and end with a discussion of HermeticConsciousness.Throughout he makes a case for changing our attitudes, ourhabits of seeing beauty, things, disease, the world as nouns to seeing themas verbs instead; "moving from a perception of things as entities tothings as activities".He asks the reader to suspend understandingand intention in favor of attending and entanglement--to increaseimagination to effect transformation, rather than to hide or seek to changeor to find solutions. He suggests that this is not done by turning awayfrom the world toward inner work but by learning to see the presence ofeveryday things, to see what is actually present vs. inventing theories. The best ideas, in my opinion, have to do with: Beauty vs. the notion ofenergy; making of the world by attention to it; the particularity of EACHinside a concept of wholeness; and "no longer looking at a thing, butbeing seen by it".The book departs from other New Age literature inthat it does not advocate transcendence away from or out of the body (orthe world) into a kind of spiritual hubris, but rather argues for lovingthe world better "as is".This viewpoint requires a differentkind of consciousness and lots of responsibility. It also insists onexercising consistently the activity of imagination, of which Sardelloreports the Sanskrit root meaning to be the "ever-changing ensnaringplay of appearances".Sardello builds upon the work of James Hillman. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Secret Doctrine : Synthesis of Science, Religion & Philosophy by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky
Theosophy developed from the writings of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. She founded the Theosophical Society in 1875 with the goal of seeking "universal brotherhood."
