3-0 out of 5 stars Walking with gods
I first came across the thoughts of Colin Wilson in one of his novels, 'The Philosopher's Stone', where the hero - let's call him Will Colinson - relates:
3-0 out of 5 stars THE OCCULT (RANDOM HOUSE, INC./1971)
As far as the history part goes, Wilson's book is a fascinating documentation of occultism starting with primitive shamanism and progressing through century after century of magicians and mages and adepts from Dee to Dion Fortune, Cagliostro to Crowley while touching upon almost every aspect of supernatural phenomenon. But whereas Christian beliefs teach that the occult and all its branches and manifestations are demonic in origin (or at the very least draw real demonic spirits to the ones who engage in such practices as divination, ritual magick, invoking of spirits, psychic mediums who open themselves up to any spiritual contact like a human ouija board, and astral projection), Wilson argues that the occult is a way to get in touch with the deepest part of subconscious self as well as the Jungian "collective unconscious" or universal energy/psychic ether that he contends we can manipulate or tap into thus enabling us to discern the future and relive past lives (yes, he also argues in favor of reincarnation). As a Christian I must speak according to the mainstream theological point of view which Wilson conveniently pushes to the back burner (so to speak) especially when you read of all these weird supernatural things happening to all these people who deliberately ignore the warnings of God in regards to participating in these rituals. Of course, it would be perfectly fine to engages in such occultic practices if there weren't real entities out there trying to kill you. And even if you don't believe in such fallen/demonic/angelic entities, why take the chance? Why risk opening such a Pandora's Box that you can't control (or which these entities make you think you can control) and which could very well destroy you (mentally, physically, and spiritually) as well as those you love? Instead of believing the pseudo-psychological mumbo jumbo of men why not just accept the truth that there is a God and that there is a macro-world of angels and demons that we cannot see? Why is this so hard to believe? We can believe in a micro-world of invisible-to-the-naked eye organisms yet refuse to believe in a macro-world of God and Satan, angel and demon, faithful and rebellious even though we can see the positive and negative results of these forces every single day throughout the entire world. A simple comparison of the evil practices of Aleister Crowley (and the horrible results of his self-centered philosophy of "do what thou wilt" which has left a trail of insanity and death highlighted by Crowley's own struggle with heroin and sexual disease) to the life and character of Jesus Christ (and his example of love, peace, goodness, faith, kindness, self-control, humility, compassion, righteousness, holiness, and truth under God) gives a perfect example of all that is wrong with the occult. The three star rating is for Wilson's "HISTORY", not his philosophy.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Wilson's most engaging researches..
Having read quite some books written by C.Wilson, i know that going through the ones where he's conducting research is always a great experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the one
of all the books written by and about Ramana, this is probably the very best.I have read all of them that I could get my hands on, and keep coming back to this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars "what if God was one of us..."
I have owned this book for one year now. I bought it because a guru-skeptical friend told me that Ramana Maharshi was enlightened. On the front cover picture, I immediately noticed the pleasant glow in Ramana's eyes that my friend spoke of, but they did not teleport me to instant samadhi. Nor did Ramana's answers to seekers' questions (this book is in Q-and-A format) lead me to what he terms "abidance in the Self." I briefly tried to practice Ramana's self-enquiry, to no avail, and abandoned the book last summer. For some reason, the book sat on my night table for seven months. I really don't know why I didn't just put it back on my bookshelf.
5-0 out of 5 stars The ABCs of an Enlightened Sage
Be As You Are is like a personal conversation with your own guru. Sri Ramana answers questions on a variety of topics. I keep coming back to the book again and again. Merely reading it will open new horizons to you. This book keeps on giving for years. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The 1st magic book I ever got and still the best.
I am a street magican at the Georgia Ren Fair and 85% of the tricks I use on the street come from this book. I got this book back when I was about 11 years old and have found it invaulable!
5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Course in Magic
This book is GREAT for beginner magicians. It explains everything crystal clear, and gives great pictures to help you learn. This book makes it extremely easy to learn magic, that even a kid could do it.This book is overflowing with magic from the first to the last page.He starts you on basic self-working card tricks, then you start learning some card tricks that require sleight of hand. What is really great about the magic tricks in this book is that they are easy to master. It does not take very long at all to have them mermorized and be able to perform them.He also teaches you various methods of forcing cards. After that, he explains some different and gimmiked cards and what kind of tricks you can do with them. Then comes one of my absolute favorite part in the book. This is also the hardest part in the book, and it is flourishes. He goes from the one handed cut to the one hand fan to springing the cars, and finally ends at throwing a card. The other half of the book is dedicated and filled with coin, rope, silk and hankerchief, impromptu, mental, and billard ball magic. He also goes over some magic tricks which he defines as "betchas".Furthermore, at the end of the book there are some miscellaneous magic tricks. All these sections and tricks are explained just as beautifully as the card tricks. This is an AMAZIng book, and if you are a beginner and just starting magic THIS IS THE BOOK TO GET!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Magic

5-0 out of 5 stars An Experience
This book guides you through Ram Dass' transformation from Harvard Professor to seeker of enlightenment. You will never read a book quite like this. You must experience it to appreciate its artistic quality and great wisdom.Highly recommended for any seeker of truth and awareness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wicked!
It's an awesome book, Be Here Now, entertaining and interesting.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic of Contemporary Spirituality
This book launched a spiritual renaissance for an entire generation. It starts out as a personal memoir, a Western academic who travels to India and finds answers to questions he didn't realize his soul was asking. Then, in the middle, Ram Dass shares some of the higher teachings of India, but in a way that makes you feel you are listening to a really cool individual who is also your friend. It is impossible for Ram Dass to be preachy. He's too down-to-earth, too fun, too "us". (As someone who has heard him speak several times, I can assure you, he speaks and is just like he writes.) The last part of the book is a short list of source materials, books and such, for those who wish to delve further into the subject. This mini-tome is a good introduction for those investigating the spiritual path. For those already on such a path, Be Here Now reminds us what we're trying to do, and why. I highly recommend it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but for comedic purposes
I've never been much of a Texe Marrs fan and I approached this book with an open mind. But this book is just so hard to take seriously. As I read the other reviews from people who found this enlightening and opened their eyes and such, I sit here scratching my head. You're telling me that the cast of Seinfeld used the cover of Newsweek to communicate with their New World Order masters???That because Bill Clinton folded his hands in an on-camera interview he was doing the same?Danny Glover felt the need to evoke Mystery Babylon on the cover of an AARP catalog?C'mon.Maybe 15% of these pictures should raise eye browes. The rest are like a rorschach test for conspiracy theorists. You will see what you want to see depending on your level of paranoia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
This is an outstanding book. What can one say?A picture is worth a thousand words.Lanelle

4-0 out of 5 stars Obvious boo boos make it a dubious read...
I was enjoying this book as a summer read kinda thing, and I came across several mistakes..big ones. Thebiggest so far is that Helen Keller was the developer of sign language for the deaf! She was not as most of us know, but it made it convenient to fit her into the illuminati. Nice pictures, and the reproduced articles from obvious sources are pretty good, but as soon as you start running into misleading info, then any book that claims to expose anything is cast into doubt. I also noticed some of the handshakes just look like regular handshakes, frankly. I mean what good does it do to have to decode a book of decoding? Take what you have already learned and then apply it to some of the content in this book and it becomes just another vague rung on the step to exposing the big picture. Worth the money, though and a fun read, just double check the facts. ... Read more

Don't like it as much as the Meditation CD.Haven't felt any regression while listening to this.Does help me relax, though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I have read several of Dr. Weiss' books, which I found highly enlightening and inspiring. However, this CD was not nearly on the same level.

5-0 out of 5 stars What IF
It seems to me that the people who have given this book a less than desireable review are the ones who are steeped heavily into the brainwashed religious diatribes of what religions have been pushing down their throats as the truth. What they forget is that the bible was written and re written and edited so many times over and over, that one can only believe that the end result is nothing more than what those religions want you to believe....which of course is for their own agenda.

The Satanic Rituals written by the world famous founder of organized and modern authentic Satanism is a magnificent collection "PRINCIPLES" and authentic Black Mass Rituals and other Occult Philosophies.Like all other books by Magus La Vey it is devoid of useless gibberish and rhetoric! This book is highly well written in terms of the book's content, theme, structure, etc. This is REQUIRED READING for the REAL novice SATANIST or the REAL advanced WIZARD or WITCH of the Left-Hand PATH!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars a good guide on practicing satanism.
i think the rituals/ceremonies are original. the only thing i don't like about this book was how Mr. LaVey didn't give some clue as to when the Black Mass or Das Tierdrama were to be performed. i also don't like how LaVey didn't tell you what chemicals to use to make the flame for the Call to Cthulhu ritual black or how he didn't show what special sigils to use in some of the rituals that didn't use the baphomet for the participant(s)to wear during the ritual. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars For the Person We Know the Least - Ourselves
Most of us don't really know we are. Oh, sure we may have ideas about who we are and who we might be, but even those ideas aren't really original. Most of our ideas...most of our beliefs come from others who we felt knew us better than we knew ourselves. Most of our beliefs about ourselves and about the world we live in are firmly established in our minds by the time we are six years old. Six years old! No wonder this world is such a mess. Most of us are really unconscious of what we believe and why we believe it and yet it is those ideas that shape our reality.
5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Reading
I highly recommend this book if you are struggling with how to resolve relationship issues. I found it very useful not just for it's obvious purpose of teaching you how to be more intutive, but also for the tools it gives you to cope with (and forgive and release) the stresses of life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
I read this book many years ago before I experienced painful loss of loved ones. However, the book allowed me to have some knowledge on how to deal with this part of life and gave me insights into the talents of George Anderson. I have had two sessions with George and it is very clear he is the real deal. My sessions have brought me peace and I thank George for making himself available to provide a service that is greatly needed. Whether you have experienced loss or if you are simply interested in mediumship this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars a gift of comfort
This book was recommended to me after I lost a loved one and I found it very comforting and have since given it as a gift to friends when they loose some one they love.

3-0 out of 5 stars George Anderson is a master at what he does
Having read the book, which was convincing, I was willing to give George a try in real life, as I had recently lost a loved one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A small book with big wisdom
I'm admittedly a huge fan of Judith Hanson Lasater's other works, so naturally I was anticipating her latest offering:"A Year Of Living Your Yoga".Borrowing the theme of her other popular publication, "Living Your Yoga", Lasater has created a daily meditation style book that gives bite sized wisdom that you can use daily. Each day, there is a proverb along with a suggestion of how to apply it to your day to day life. For those who want live their yoga and not just "do" yoga, this is a nice little way to do it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Mantis Guy Had a Point.
Sometimes New Agers go too far. This is one of those places. It's an attention cry and a would-be bragging right for today's parents. A way of 'converting' conservative parents into new-agers by hitting them where they are most irrational. Do yourself a favour, don't let them feed you this rubbish. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Learning to Integrate all your selves!
This book truly was the one that changed my life completely and helped me understand all those voices and selves inside me.What a revelation!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Method in Self Awareness
Excellent book. The book does not directly explain at first what it is trying to entail, but as the reader digresses through the various voice dialogues with the interviewer or facilitator, the development of the larger picture is perceived. And I must say, this particular model has stuck with me for quite some time in many other books and teachings I have read, as well as personally experienced in my life. This book really does convey a rather substantial paradgm of human psychology. Read more

Editorial Review

The Macks divert our gaze from our contemporary red-faced, cloven-hoofed misrepresentation of demons to remind us of the ancient roles demons were originally assigned to play. From the Tommyknockers of North American mountain mines to the South African Mbulu that waits in the river for lone travelers, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant read.
The book had many demons and the small stories that go with them. I think the only thing I would have liked more in the book is for the writer to post more pictures of some of the demons the writer was trying to describe. Evnen though this was a very well made book and it is simple enough for the average reader to understand yet complex, the writer used words that I had to look up in the dictionary. So I would recomend this book to a person who is curious about demons, but not thoose who are very serious about the subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating, Frightening and Sometimes Amusing Look at Malicious Spirits Worldwide
Well, as the title says, this book is a "field guide" to Demons, faeries and other malicious spirits. The book opens with a couple discussions on the nature of demons, evil, and so forth, before splitting into a field guide style approach that breaks it down into sections like "mountain", "ocean", "desert" and so forth. Within in each section are given several different demons or types of demon, along with a write up of their habits, myths and lore, how to defeat them and the like.
4-0 out of 5 stars Leave Your Butterfly Net At Home~In Search Of The Supernatural
A delightful field guide for the would-be spirit chaser in training. While this is primarily a reference book, it goes beyond most books of this genre by giving the reader more than just a brief dictionary type description of the creature being discussed.

"This woman who had written so eloquently that suffering really did not exist spent the last two years of her life in the blackest psychotic depression I have ever witnessed.", these words were spoken at helen schucmans funeral. In the worlds of ACIM, "It would be madness to entrust
1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING Not Christian Theology but New Age and the Occult
Warning: this book is not chrisitian but New Age and the Occult. The author spent the last two years of her life in the blackest psychotic depression according to psychologist and priest Fr. Benedict Groeschel who is also an expert in private revelations. Go to the EWTN website and find the article in the document library under the heading of New Age and Cults, keyword A COURSE IN MIRACLES.Fr. Groeschel was an aquaintance of the author and gave an eulogy at her funeral.Fr. Groeschel believes that the author's experience with the channeled "spirit" was possibly a true diabolic manifestation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where to start with "A Course in Miracles" (ACIM)
I first "discovered"the voluminous ACIM and the slim "An Introduction to A Course in Miracles" in 1996 when "Introduction to ACIM" was still published as "by Robert Perry", the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars The REAL guide from the REAL deal in meditation
For over thirty years, Ajahn Brahmavamso has been a monk in the Thai "forest tradition," a branch of Theravada Buddhism known for its strict adherence to both the spirit and the letter of the Buddha's teachings. Tibetan Buddhism is exotic and Zen is aesthetically pleasing, but for the meditation that led the Buddha himself to enlightenment, we must look to the Theravadans.
