5-0 out of 5 stars Born In William Wallace's Blood
If you enjoyed the movie Braveheart (the 1997 film epic based on the life of Sir. William Wallace, perhaps Scotland's greatest hero and most significant historical figure) you'll enjoy the first part of this book. William Wallace and Scotland's 13th century Peasant's Rebellion is the stuff of great legend, and John J. Robinson's Born in Blood (as well as Braveheart)immortalizes the legend and the man.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating book
This is a fascinating and well researched book - not only on the subject of the Freemasons, but also on the evolution of government from the feudal system into modern democracy. Author John J. Robinson (a non-mason), provides an un-biased history of the Freemasons and those who have sought to oppress or slander them throughout the centuries.

4-0 out of 5 stars Second part is better
The book is a bit of a tough read during the first half, which discusses the Knights Templar.Great info, but a challenge to read without wanting to skip a page or two every now and then. The second half regarding the Freemansons is very interesting and eye opening.I would by the book alone for the Fremason section. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars He Came to Set the Captives Free
I read this book for the first time 14 1/2 years ago and was set free for the first time in my life. I would recommend this book to all those who feel that they can't live another day, want to give up, feel that there is no hope or just don't want to try any more. There is hope and that is in Jesus.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very well written!
I have read all of Rebecca's books and I highly recommend them. This book draws you into a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and makes you aware of Satan's tactics. Her books reveal to the reader how deeply God loves all people and that all can be forgiven no matter what you have done.
1-0 out of 5 stars do some research first
Do some online research before getting this book.I read it in college, and it did nothing but trouble me until I later discovered what so many others have said. For the truth, read the Bible instead...it really is that easy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, concise and informative
Writing from a Biblically conservative viewpoint, Chip Ingram uses a combination of his personal experience as a pastor and his academic training to develop the modern day application of the Roman armor metaphor used by Paul in his letter to the Ephesian church. The writing style is engaging, the handling of scripture careful, and the application highly relevant. He handles the subject of spiritual warfare with a serious respect for its reality but avoids any excess of sensationalism. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool for understanding spiritual warfare
Chip Ingram has given us a great resource in this book.He gives us a very balanced and scriptural look at the reality of the invisible war that we are all in.He does a great job of using God's Word combined with his own experiences to help us understand how Ephesians 6 applies to our daily lives. As a preacher and teacher, something I found especially helpful are the outlines that he gives at the beginning of each section. This not only lets you know where he's going, but it's also very useful in teaching the material to others.I definitely recommend this tool to help Christians develop a solid understanding of spiritual warfare.

5-0 out of 5 stars Standing & Having Done All, Stand
I found that Chip Ingram presented the material in a manner that is both succinct and informative. In the same matter-of-fact style as Derek Prince's, "Spiritual Warfare" book, Chip takes that material further and clarifies the metaphors used by Paul of each of the pieces of armor. Those who are trying to equip new believers will find this an excellent book for either a "textbook" or as a "teaching manual".I highly recommend it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The most important book I ever read!
When, in 2002, I sat down to write, and eventually publish, my own spiritual autobiography (The Vortex: A True Story of Passion and Karma) I knew there was no way I'd be able to explain to my readers all the bizzare paranormal events I had described in my book. Explaining them wasn't even part of my agenda. Just sharing the story seemed like quite enough for me to undertake.
5-0 out of 5 stars So many comments...
....and all of them true.I found myself tingling, resonating, learning and disbelieving through all of the three books.I must say, though, that I am surprised that so many people seem to have gotten ANSWERS to their life questions from them.I got a lot of hunches and hints and stimulating doubts from them, but.. answers?Definately not.And that is the point of discernment, I think.Fun to read and re-read, and yes, I quote them all the time. But then, I quote Eddie Izzard all the time too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teachers of great wisdom
I always looking for answers like everybody else does it.

Editorial Review

The Macks divert our gaze from our contemporary red-faced, cloven-hoofed misrepresentation of demons to remind us of the ancient roles demons were originally assigned to play. From the Tommyknockers of North American mountain mines to the South African Mbulu that waits in the river for lone travelers, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant read.
The book had many demons and the small stories that go with them. I think the only thing I would have liked more in the book is for the writer to post more pictures of some of the demons the writer was trying to describe. Evnen though this was a very well made book and it is simple enough for the average reader to understand yet complex, the writer used words that I had to look up in the dictionary. So I would recomend this book to a person who is curious about demons, but not thoose who are very serious about the subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating, Frightening and Sometimes Amusing Look at Malicious Spirits Worldwide
Well, as the title says, this book is a "field guide" to Demons, faeries and other malicious spirits. The book opens with a couple discussions on the nature of demons, evil, and so forth, before splitting into a field guide style approach that breaks it down into sections like "mountain", "ocean", "desert" and so forth. Within in each section are given several different demons or types of demon, along with a write up of their habits, myths and lore, how to defeat them and the like.
4-0 out of 5 stars Leave Your Butterfly Net At Home~In Search Of The Supernatural
A delightful field guide for the would-be spirit chaser in training. While this is primarily a reference book, it goes beyond most books of this genre by giving the reader more than just a brief dictionary type description of the creature being discussed.

5-0 out of 5 stars pure and simple "lords of chaos"
This book has a lot of views. form fans, from the musicians, from people who dealt with the subject of satanism for a long time. the most enjoyable part of this book is the stories of how far fans and others took the whole black metal scene to its extremes. they really believe in what they do and did. also, this book has pretty interesting points of view. this book will make you think about organized religion and controlled society by governments and its laws. this book is only for people with open minds to every aspect of life, religions, music and even to the believes of flying saucers. seems funny but its true.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
I did not like this book because it is full of contridictions and politics From Varg Vikernas Black Metal Has alot of great artist like venom mayhem or celtic frost those are real black metal bands.Hellhammer is a great drummer but he said Black metal is for white people but look at him does he look white? Also alot of bands are nationalist.for those who dont know nationalism is complete believe that no nation should mix any culture or traditions but at the same time they use instruments from other cultures Like guitars and drums which is completly irrelavent thus the nazi parts of black metal are not to be takin seriosly. This book focusis to much on varg instead of real Black metal dudes like dead or euronymous. This book Is saying black metal is about crime instead of metal which is not true. This is why I did not like the book

2-0 out of 5 stars sloppy
I think better information can be gained by reading wikipedia than can be gained from reading this book. As a metalhead, I have the feeling that Moynihan is an outsider writing about something he doesn't really understand. Maybe he is just catering to people who aren't familiar with metal, but it's to the detriment of the book's accuracy. I think he misses the point of some bands. He also does a very quick and sloppy job of some sections, which is annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'a, Tyson!
Though knowledge of H.P. Lovecraft's "Cthulhu Mythos" enhances the enjoyment of this brilliant work, it isn't necessary. Tyson's Necronomicon traces the detailed path of the Mad Arab from his expulsion from Yemen into the desert to his final mind-shattering demise in Damascus. This text would also make a great sourcebook for the popular Call Of Cthulhu role-playing game from Chaosium. Lovcraft would have been delighted!

3-0 out of 5 stars You must eat 3 Fungus Spiders to gain the second sight
Before I begin I do realize that this book is considered an "Occult" book and alot of the people who buy this believe in the contents. My response to that is simply .... "wow". Anyways, I read this book strictly as fiction. I myself am not a huge fan of lovecrafts work but, I am intrigued by his mythology and really wanted to have alot of it layed out in front of me. Sadly at first I had a hard time finding that. But this book definently did that Job. First it is well written, you can tell by the more complex language the author uses. Second, it in detail covers the Chthulthu Mythos and lays all the basic and much of the in depth information about them out for the reader. Third, This book is loaded with content and definently gives great credit to Lovecrafts writings. But their are a few downsides. It is written from the perspective of that "crazy arab" so it reads more like a handbook or guide. Their also isn't much action except for in the end. So It can be somewhat of a slow read, sense I found it hard to sit down and read a large amount at once. But the chapters are short so it makes this problem not to bad.Lastly, The book is heavy in terminology from Lovecrafts other stories so those people who haven't read much of Lovecrafts work might find some of the information confusing. Overall it is a good book and no doubt will satisfy those whom are just interested in the sheer fiction side of Lovecrafts Mythos. But I'm sure for those out there whom believe it to be real or semi - real. The author follows the occult quite a bit himself or so I've heard and I'm sure you will be satisfied.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tons of facts, but zero excitement
This is a book that more or less only devoted fans of H.P. Lovecraft, his creation Necronomicon, the Cthulhu Mythos and so on will appreciate. In other words, unless you've read (and liked) the stories penned down by the Gentleman from Providence you won't find much pleasure in reading Tyson's Necronomicon.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've all got it wrong...
Everyone, listen. Realize that when you are talking about Satanism you need to know that it is not about conjuring "demons", killing Christians, and the "occult." It is about living your life to the fullest without any stupid religious restrictions, "rejoicing life in the carnal, the mundane, the flesh." Stop looking at it from a "Christian" point of view. This book is good, yes, but of course it's not the first book you want to get if you want to be a Satanist. If you want to do it right, GET THE SATANIC BIBLE 1st! You need to already know this. If you read The Devil's Notebook first, you won't get the right understanding. And enough of the LaVey insults. If you're a Satanist you should have more respect for the man. Nuff said.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Read
This book is a collection of essays, written by Mr. (pope?) Lavey.Judging by the introduction, written by Adam Parfrey, it is some sort of tribute to him - though I am not for sure.It is good for entertainment, though not a whoooole lot else... but then again, books are a form of media, and the whole purpose of media is to entertain, so...3-0 out of 5 stars Of limited interest . . .
Not only to Joe Citizen, but to most Satanists as well, to whom this must seem rather tiresome. This is my first exposure to LaVey's writings, and I'm not terribly impressed.I found his style (and philosophy) to be manipulative, juvenile, and pedantic. A predilection for obscure words and arcane references.I'll assume then, that being irritating and difficult to understand is a Satanic tenet.Don't get me wrong--I found many interesting parts to this book, especially when it came to his taste in classical music, in manufactured environments and artificial human companions. If you're into robotics you definitely want to hear what LaVey has to say.But if you're new to Satanic philosophy or the Left Hand Path, I'd look elsewhere. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Chiller!
This book is supposed to be a true story.Of course, it cannot be proven that it is true.As with many true stories, you have to experience it yourself to actually believe something to be true. However, this book is believeable.I've read some reviewers state that how can the Lutz's remember what happened exactly 2 years later?Wouldn't you remember something like this in great detail?I would!
2-0 out of 5 stars Never let facts get in the way of a good story
What a laughable book.Despite having been debunked before the 1970s even ENDED, people persist on saying this book is based on true events.Well, to a point it is.There was a mass murder in the house on Ocean Avenue in 1974, and a family by the name of Lutz did move into the house in December of 1975 and then leave after 28 days but that's about the extent of the truth.Had this book told of the strange "events" that the Lutz's allegedly encountered in an exciting manner, it would have been more enjoyable. As it is, what we're stuck with is a book that's surprisingly dull for long stretches and lacks the real punch that a ghost story could have; this failing also infected the sluggish 1979 film version. The dialogue is poorly written and the book still has typos from the original printing.Read it for the historical perspective but don't expect an especially great read.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ONE SCARY READ!
This particular book is not in the genre I usually read. When it first came out, my wife talked me into it.I must admit it frightened me.Perhaps part of it was due to the fact that we had just moved into a house build well before the Civil War on the coast, and the house had many of the characteristics the house in the book had.I sat up way, way into the night reading this book and was actually seeing "red pig eyes" through the window by the time I had finished.Much has been written as to whether or not the book is based on the truth. To be truthful myself, I just don't care.True or not, it is one scary story.I liked it.Highly recommend. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A helpful resource book to own
This book was very helpful when I needed to find information on a little know ministry that had some questionable teachings. It was the only book I could find out of many books I purchased on cults that had this group in it's content.
1-0 out of 5 stars Research, research, research
I haven't read this book in its entirety but have noticed that it is quoted on a website about cults and used as an authority. On reading excerpts about Jehovah's Witnesses, I wonder if Dr. House didn't really do the research needed to form his opinions. The opinion that Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to read or study any bible but their own is not true.Having been around JWs my whole life, I know that many have several translations of the bible on their book shelves.Without having his book right in front of me, I can't pick it apart bit by bit, but this is a pretty basic mistake and makes me wonder if he's formed his opinions independently and through his own personal research and interviews with real members of these cults/sects or relied on others misinformation.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Money! Save yours or donate to charity.

5-0 out of 5 stars helpful in understanding the biblical basis for curses
I came to this book with some scepticism as well as some understanding of the fact that curses do, in fact, exist in our day. What I liked most is that Prince gives solid, Biblical support for his ideas and does not take scripture out of context.Thought-provoking and useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Derek Prince best book
I grew up in a home environment where our mother used to call us all sorts of negative words. Thirty five years later I see manifestations of those words in members of the family.I therefore identify with what the author is talking about. The book has helped me be a better parent and husband. I now speak positive things over my family regardless of how I am feeling at the time. I have also learnt to see myself the way God see me and speak alound what God says about me. The result? Promotion at work, favour, good family relations, prosperity, honour, peace, good health etc. In short I have applied the principles in the book to my life and found them to be true.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
This is an excellent book for anyone who wishes to know the truth about cults and false religion.Well-researched and well-written, the authors let the founders of the various cults speak for themselves, carefully documenting each quote in copious end notes. Each group's view of the basic doctrines of Christianity are outlined, showing their astonishing similarity in rejecting the deity of Christ and pushing salvation by works. Best of all, the Doctrinal Appendix gives the biblical references for each Christian doctrine. Especially helpful is the table of proofs that Jesus is God with dozens of Old and New Testament references.Other reviews of this book should be read with care. When the light of Truth shines forth, darkness is made uncomfortable.

5-0 out of 5 stars People Get Ready
This is an awesome book.I don't agree that he applies everything to demons. He is very clear that we need to ask for discernment as to the cause of the person's affliction, whether it is spiritual or not.We are entering a time of warfare, and we had better get ready to fight the enemy.Demons most certainly exist, and they would love to make us believe that we are subject to their oppression with no way out.Read this and see the power that is there for each who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the authority that has been given to us.This book also made me take a hard look at myself, and I have to say the Holy Spirit has done some amazing things in me since reading it.If you are open to the renewing of your mind, than this is a really great start.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK AND ALL LIKE IT ARE WITCHCRAFT!!
This is neither biblically sound or credible.Jesus didn't converse with demons, He simply rebuked them and said "be quiet and come out of him/her".He did not communicate with demons "for what communion has light with darkness."Prov. 16:27 says "an ungodly man digs up evil, and it is on his lips like a burning fire", that's what's being done in these kinds of books.Naming and talking to demons is sorcery (calling forth evil spirits; incantations to evil spirits; communing with evil spirits).2 Cor. 6:15 says "And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?"There's much more in the Bible about this kind of foolishness.I'd suggest spending some quality time reading the Bible and putting on the full armor of God, instead of reading books by these self-styled deliverers, it could be dangerous to someone attempting this.If you don't think so read Acts 19:9-19.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth Shall Set You Free
Derek was a servant of the Lord and he continues to serve even in death through his books and audio tapes.I have read scores of books on this topic and this ranks up there with the best of them.As the words of Amazing Grace go,"I once was blind but now I see", this book will open the eyes of ignorant Christians to the reality of our world and help them fight the enemy and live a more godly life.I praise God that my eyes are open now and through encouragement given by Derek and others, am boldly teaching the truth to others.Thank you Derek for your good works in ministry and education. There is no doubt it was totally inspired by the Holy Spirit to further the Lord's kingdom.Take the time to reference the scriptures cited in the book and you will grow in your understanding of God's word and know the truth about the enemy we face. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a humane approach...
Steve Hassan knows whereof he speaks, and this book will help anyone looking to rescue a loved one or friend from the grips of the mind control tactics that characterize sects of all kinds. The most important aspect of Hassan's program is respect: respect for what may have sent a person into the clutches of a sect to begin with, and respect for the individual lost in the double-talk miasma of sect manipulation. This is a book of hope and love; every single member of a family can learn and grow from it, and its message tells us never to give up.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is my favorite book to recommend to people who want to learn about cults
This book presents a practical approach to planning an intervention when you have a loved one in a cult. Mr. Hassan's style is compassionate, never condescending and healing for anyone who was ever in a cult. I appreciated what he shared about his own experiences in and leaving a cult. I found it encouraging that he now has embraced the religion he grew up in, Judiasm, as for so many of us who leave cults it becomes impossible to not view anything spiritual with suspicion.
5-0 out of 5 stars Important information
Mr. Hassan shares extremely important information in his scholarly work. Another more visceral story on how to escape a cult was written by a young woman who escaped from the Kool-aid cult, aka The Jonestown Compound. SEDUCTIVE POISON is a well written, thoroughly gripping first hand account of Life and Death in the People's Temple Cult. When I finished reading it I finally had a sense of how and why young idealists like Mr Hassan and Ms Layton joined their respective groups, from where they garnered the strength to leave and why they would later try to save others by telling their own stories.

3-0 out of 5 stars The "Good Walkers"
In his book, The Night Battles, Carlo Ginzburg addresses the historical problem of why, during sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, did the Friulian fertility rituals of the benandanti, or "good-walkers", gradually assimilate into witchcraft. The benandanti, marked at birth by the sign of the caul, served Christ and their community by leaving their bodies at night to fight evil witches that had attempted to destroy or steal their harvest.Because of the ignorance of the Friuli language and benandanti rituals, the Church conducted incessant inquisitions and trials against the self-proclaimed benandanti, which in effect, pushed the benandanti toward witchcraft and participation in the sabbat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ian Myles Slater: on Popular Belief and Official Doctrine
Whether or not Carlo Ginzburg actually discovered evidence of shamanism in sixteenth-century Italy, in this or later books, is in part a matter of how one defines shamanism. What he undeniably found, in the seemingly unpromising records of the Inquisition, was evidence of beliefs so remote from those of official European culture as to be flatly unintelligible to the churchmen who first encountered them. Eventually, the Church courts managed to impose something resembling officially acceptable doctrines on the local population, but the process took generations, as Ginzburg is able to show from trial records.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ground-breaking work
As anthropologists fanned around the world they brought back detailed accounts of shamanic practices of indigenous peoples from Africa, Asia, Siberia & Native America - but not from Europe. European shamanism (including druidism) is thought to have been largely stamped out due to the combined efforts of Enlightenement and the Holy Inquisition. The book opens up the question of the many similarities between Germanic, Latin, Slavic agricultural cults and their relationship to the Dionysian rituals as well as the issue of universality of core beliefs that underly indigenous practices around the world. 3-0 out of 5 stars Just okay...
This book could have been good, but it's too long and too repetitive, the subject matter is very interesting, but the story gets retold a thousand times and it's just not very entertaining or insightful for that matter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Murakami's "Underground"
Murakami's analysis of the Tokyo Sarin Attack is exactly the kind needed to understand all terrorism occuring in the world today.A great antidote to main-stream media's simplistic "us vs. them" morality tale description of terrorism. For concerned citizens of the post-9/11 world, I strongly recommend this book, together with Erich Fromm's "Fear of Freedom".

5-0 out of 5 stars And now for something completely different.
What is different about Haruki Murakami's Underground? For one, it is non-fiction. The novelist has put aside his imaginative pen and focused closely on the actual events that unfolded ten years ago when terrorists from the Aum Shinrikyo cult carried poisonous packets of sarin on board the Tokyo subway during the morning rush hour. Readers familiar with Murakami's work will find none of the speculative creation he is so well known for. But they will still find his gift for delving into the lives of ordinary people faced with the unimaginable.
