This was the first book I aquired on Wicca.Found it to be very informative, easy to understand. Was a very interesting read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solitaries, Here is your Guide
As always, Scott Cunningham comes through with the information that we needed as those on the solitary path. If you can't find what you need in here, you may not really need it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book for Beginners
This book is a wonderful introduction to Wicca.Scott Cunningham writes in a way that is very understanding and non-threatening, and he makes the reader feel as though it's absolutely okay to follow whatever path they choose because it's their life and no one else's.I am not Wiccan, but I felt the book helped me to appreciate my eclectic pagan path more because of the way he writes.I also recommend Living Wicca. It is a sequel to this book that goes into how to actually apply the concepts in everyday life. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Master Bardon.....Thanks !!!
Without any doubt, the mental training exercises found inside this great book are the best....period ! This is a must to anyone who aspire to harness the real power behind its own mind.
5-0 out of 5 stars A true philosophical and magical guide.
There are a number of ways of reading this book. Philosophically, magically and on a practical level. Having bought it in 1979 I had to wait for the internet to be able to discuss the various aspects of this book with other people who have read it particularly since some aspects of it are not easy for the neophyte and one could not find Bardon readers round the corner. I started my own discussion group and a few months later a real professional group was set up so I dropped mine.Discussion groups also offered the opportunity to clarify some of its more obscure points while as it encouraged those who were more advanced along the path to write books on the matters discussed in the IIH in order to explain teh more obscure areas and adress readers questions. Thus the involvement in IIH can be total for the seeker. One progresses along the path of magic at one's own pace finding light along the way.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Master
A kind and gentle soul, I think it was not very sporting of god to send FB against the 99 lodge! Everyone is concentrating on how difficult this book is, but the moment you start you are changing, it's working already.. a bit of faith? it is not hard and not easy, but requires persistence. you'll get it. And boy will you be surprised! delighted, happy. esp. dont think about how much there is to do, like a drip wearing away a stone keep going without constantly looking for results.. go to a genuine tarot reader when you despair, thats what they were sent for. the secret is the journey, not the destination. hugh spiritual growth will begin within two months, in a subtle way. blessed with luck, your power gently increases, allowing you to be reborn without all the crap you thought you were. and every thing goes your way, a thrill! its worth it, but you already know that. Give me a call, 99 has its members so why not us. [...] ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Both Structure of Magic Books are powerful but: masterpieces, but...
Structure 1 is well written, clear and concise, but Structure 2 is subtle and intense like a slow moving train that gets fast and fun at the pace you like. Both are informative books, don't get me wrong. But Structure 2 shows that communication and movement within communication is thwe basis of life. Whether its commuincating to your muscles to walk or do whatever, talk to another person, whatever requires communication at any level. In fact these books, I'll say are the spirit-voice of what it takes to live efffectively or the beginnings thereof of understanding that. Structure 1 tells you the map is not the territory, structure 2 tells you how to use the territory with the directions if you have the basic understanding given in 1 of what maps and territories are really for. The questions are asked in 1, the queastions are answered in 2. Anyhow, as Arthur C. Clarke said, technology only seems magical, when you haven't developed up to its level yet. That's what it all comes down to, development and The Structure of Magic Books show that. Step by step, understanding by understanding until you can put it together yourself in its proper order within the territory, and not just on a "silly" map. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. more than that, that's my understanding and I'm growing past it to understand and undertake ever more and ever better. Hats off to Bandler and Grinder and all of their associates, I'm not saying they're the end or the beginnings, but they are an important part of that grand puzzle being solved called "existence and life". But eah person must put it all together for themselves, that's what The Map is Not The Territory means, I know. All right, happy reading if you buy em'!

Editorial Review

This 1986 classic is not only an excellent introduction to the Wiccan religion and earth-based religions in general, it's also a workbook that can take the serious student to the equivalent level of third-degree Gardnerian. Though Raymond Buckland was a student of the late great Gerald Gardner, this manual does not adhere to a specific branch or denomination of witchcraft, but rather seeks to teach the elements and philosophies common to all, whether Celtic, Saxon, Finnish, or what have you. Buckland is credited with bringing the "old religion" to the U.S., and covens and solitary witches practicing the craft in the U.S. today have him to thank for getting it out of the closet. While hardly the "be-all, end-all" of Witchcraft information, Buckland's compiled research is an extremely useful tool, and a must for the foundation of anyone interested in the craft.
5-0 out of 5 stars an awsome book--- deserves more than 5 stars
i love this book ... my husband loves this book... everyone i know who is pagan loves this book... its great for beginers, but also has a lot of research that is usefull to anyone. Raymond Buckland is a great write. He is professional, open minded, and well informed.. He put alot of the history of magick into this book. Personally I really recomend it. If you don't have it buy it... I spent 20 bucks on it in a book store and it was worth it. So 5 dollars or even more is definately. I love his writing. This was one of the first books i read when i started and the information really stuck..

5-0 out of 5 stars MORE than 5 stars!
This book is among my favorites in my Pagan library.I have had it since it was published and have over the years bought several copies. It's either been referred to so much it's fallen apart or has been borrowed and never returned. The brilliance of Scott's teachings are that he teaches only what's worked for him but he gives permission to you as Practitioner to evolve into your own Witch - you can tweak the spells so that they work for you and he applauds that and suggests that you do just exactly that.I have always had nothing but respect for the man and his writing - and am sad that he's no longer in this world to write more and share more of his wisdom.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn basics or just nature magick. It's one of the best spell books out there. It also makes a great yule present!

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspired and Accessible
Earth, Air, Fire & Water is a beginner's guide to practicing spells that utilize the energies found in natural objects. The author calls this "natural magic," although the foundations of this branch of magic are much simpler than the spells he goes on to provide.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE be all-end all Thelemic resource
I've owned this book for several years now, and I STILL learn from it everytime I pick it up.This is NOT the right book for someone new to Aleister Crowley's writings - if you're just starting to look into Thelema and Crowley's approach to Ceremonial Magick, buy Lon Milo Duquette's "The Magick of Thelema"(recently re-issued as "The Magick of Aleister Crowley"), or Crowley's own "Magick Without Tears", a compilation of letters between Crowley and a female student regarding various subjects in magickal/spiritual development.Crowley made the mistake of assuming his readership was at least as educated as he was - well, everytime I read either his or H.P. Blavatsky's work, I am reminded how poor the modern public education system has become! This massive tome is worth every penny it costs, and more...It takes time(maybe a lifetime) to absorb, but it is absolutely worth it.Just remember this: Crowley was constrained by the prevailing laws of his time, and as such, was not always LEGALLY able to come out and just say what he wanted.Alot of things are spoken of in allegory and symbolism; and alot of the time, Crowley had his tongue planted firmly in his cheek when making certain statements. The guy had a cRaZy sense of humor!!Crowley was NOT a baby sacrificing monster - he was a misunderstood genius.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible for Thelemic magicians
One cannot approach Thelemic magick without this book.I have editions of the various parts (Book 4, Magick in Theory and Practice) and they just don't work independently the way the whole volume does.It pulls all of the A.'.A.'. curriculum together and presents it, along with Crowley's examples and commentary, in such a way that a solo practioner might actually be able to make sense of it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Beginning
This is a good book for beginners, those needing a refresher course or for those curious folk who just wonder what witchcraft is about. It is a convinient compilation of several of the Farrar's text that help paint a vivid picture of the craft. Having said that, the reader needs to keep in mind that since this book was originally written some attitudes and ideas have changed. Also, the writting styles of both Janet and Stewart differ greatly and sometimes Stewart's ideas can get away from him. The Farrar's are very open, but this book does contain some blinds naturally, though nothing harmful or that couldn't be remedied through one's own further study.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wiches Bible
This book contains a lot of useful information about Wicca and many rituals and ceremonies. It is based on the Gardnerian Tradition, but there is useful information for all Wiccans. This book is not really for beginners, but it is worth having in your collection of books. I would recommend this book, if you are in need of a good reference book for ceremonies and rituals, which it does include.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Service

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic
I've read dozens upon dozens of books on Ritual Magick, Occult Sciences and Paranormal Research, and this is by far the most informative piece of material I've ever read.Phil's style of writing is informative and indepth, yet brings the subject into a clear and concise manner.I wish I would've read this book in the beginning of my studies!I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for begginers
What a great book, I've been practicing magick for quite a few years now and had read this book when I was starting out as a beginner who read more then he practiced. It seemed like an good book at the time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Review for non-practitioners, by a non-practitioner
You may have noted that all the other reviews of "Condensed Chaos" (at least as of this date) are by practitioners of magick, so their concern is whether the this book helps them advance the state of their art.If you are a non-practitioner, as I am, you might wonder what this book is about and whether these folks are really serious about this magick stuff or whether they are putting you on.Well, here's my take on "Condensed Chaos," from a non-practitioner's point of view.

3-0 out of 5 stars The index is very useful
I was disappointed in the superficiality of the descriptions for the herbs and their uses, but the index is very useful. Folk names, common names, and Latin names are all easily found -making it much simpler to track down the plants you want at your local greenhouse.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (Llewellyn's Sourcebook Series)
This is a great general book. A word to the wise. Some of the herbs that he recommends are posionous and should be not ingested. These herbs are in no way flagged in the book at all. Lily of the Valley, Mandrake, Belladonna are all dangerous and not for use without extensive research. Remember even if you see lots of food on the forest ground not all of it is safe to eat.

5-0 out of 5 stars practical info for the practicing witch
what I like about this book is not the info on obcure plants that I have to send away for, but the info on things and herbs you can find in the grosery store. like some fruits and spices.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very complete... but very complex
A excellent and serious book about self initiation in the Golden Dawn magic system. But it's very complex too. This big book will teach you a lot of details about magical things and cosmogony, through a one or two year's "evening class".
2-0 out of 5 stars Changes and Errors
There are some gross errors in this book (especially in the artwork) that make me wonder as to the real accomplishments and attainments of the authors. The errors are such that I don't believe them to be intentional blinds. The Cicero's have removed nearly all traces of the Judeao-Christian Masonic themes from the Golden Dawn and have emphasized the Egyptian and Neo-Pagan.In doing so, key mystical truths have been omitted.
5-0 out of 5 stars Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn...
This is a keystone piece of modern literature for the Western Esoteric Tradition. Not for the faint of heart, this tome encloses prodigious knowledge from around the world and throughout the ages.

Very good book - can be called a bible for humans, who are looking for self-awakening. Many interesting rituals and informations about modern magic and The Golden Dawn louge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Isreal lives
What can I say..awsome book by one of the Great Magi of our times!Gives you the complete system from top to bottom as far as the Golden Dawn goes.Beginers could use this book...but Id suggest Donald Michael Criegs "Modern magick" first if your realy new to the system! But just to help give you some foundation before you dive into this complete Tome.Suppliment it with some od Isreal's teachings on CD and youll go far.......fast!

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference, not for beginners
Step by step instruction is lacking and certain fundamental ideas are assumed to be known and understood by the reader...a complete beginner would be lost with this book alone. It is an invaluable reference for someone who has a certain level of practical experience, but a book like Don Kraig's Modern Magick would be preferable to start with.

1-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive and redundant
Of the thousands of books I've read in my life, and the hundreds I've actually purchased from Amazon.com, this is the first time I've felt strongly enough about a book to write any sort of review.
5-0 out of 5 stars In the Beginning Was the Word
Dr. Fred Alan Wolf has once again pricked our consciousness in order to awaken us to realities already within our grasp. In Mind Into Matter he explains in lay terms how thought transmutates into the material, and how we can therefore truly create not only our world, but the world we leave to our children. In essence, a "you-niverse"Recent centuries of scientific development have attempted to understand and describe all creation strictly as objective science, to the detriment and ignorance of the subjective. It's time the pendulum swung back a bit. By melding the ideas of the old alchemists with those of the new scientists, Wolf uses the language of quantum physics to describe what the alchemists and Qabalists have long called the Magnum Opus - the Absolute Realization.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring View of Consciousness & Reality
I'm very picky about books that deal with the relationship between physics and consciousness, but this one I like. In books of this sort, the understanding of physics is often too limited, while on the other hand there is frequently very little appreciation for the depth of ancient metaphysical traditions. This book does a very good job of working with both sides in a highly intelligent yet readable manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book is very useful.Scott Cunningham's books are wonderful. He knew his stuff, and was very thorough when compiling the information. This book tells how to make incense, different oils for ritual, herbal charms, sachets, powders, soaps, and lots of other stuff. It's a great book for the kitchen witch because it's a wonderful reference book. And as with all of his books, he adds charts for substitutions, sabbats, days, seasons, and just correspondences for each oil and herb.I highly recommend this book.

I found this book very informative for those wishing to make their own brews and potions. I enjoyed reading it and have put some of the formulas into action. 5-0 out of 5 stars The 1st magic book I ever got and still the best.
I am a street magican at the Georgia Ren Fair and 85% of the tricks I use on the street come from this book. I got this book back when I was about 11 years old and have found it invaulable!
5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Course in Magic
This book is GREAT for beginner magicians. It explains everything crystal clear, and gives great pictures to help you learn. This book makes it extremely easy to learn magic, that even a kid could do it.This book is overflowing with magic from the first to the last page.He starts you on basic self-working card tricks, then you start learning some card tricks that require sleight of hand. What is really great about the magic tricks in this book is that they are easy to master. It does not take very long at all to have them mermorized and be able to perform them.He also teaches you various methods of forcing cards. After that, he explains some different and gimmiked cards and what kind of tricks you can do with them. Then comes one of my absolute favorite part in the book. This is also the hardest part in the book, and it is flourishes. He goes from the one handed cut to the one hand fan to springing the cars, and finally ends at throwing a card. The other half of the book is dedicated and filled with coin, rope, silk and hankerchief, impromptu, mental, and billard ball magic. He also goes over some magic tricks which he defines as "betchas".Furthermore, at the end of the book there are some miscellaneous magic tricks. All these sections and tricks are explained just as beautifully as the card tricks. This is an AMAZIng book, and if you are a beginner and just starting magic THIS IS THE BOOK TO GET!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but for comedic purposes
I've never been much of a Texe Marrs fan and I approached this book with an open mind. But this book is just so hard to take seriously. As I read the other reviews from people who found this enlightening and opened their eyes and such, I sit here scratching my head. You're telling me that the cast of Seinfeld used the cover of Newsweek to communicate with their New World Order masters???That because Bill Clinton folded his hands in an on-camera interview he was doing the same?Danny Glover felt the need to evoke Mystery Babylon on the cover of an AARP catalog?C'mon.Maybe 15% of these pictures should raise eye browes. The rest are like a rorschach test for conspiracy theorists. You will see what you want to see depending on your level of paranoia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
This is an outstanding book. What can one say?A picture is worth a thousand words.Lanelle

4-0 out of 5 stars Obvious boo boos make it a dubious read...
I was enjoying this book as a summer read kinda thing, and I came across several mistakes..big ones. Thebiggest so far is that Helen Keller was the developer of sign language for the deaf! She was not as most of us know, but it made it convenient to fit her into the illuminati. Nice pictures, and the reproduced articles from obvious sources are pretty good, but as soon as you start running into misleading info, then any book that claims to expose anything is cast into doubt. I also noticed some of the handshakes just look like regular handshakes, frankly. I mean what good does it do to have to decode a book of decoding? Take what you have already learned and then apply it to some of the content in this book and it becomes just another vague rung on the step to exposing the big picture. Worth the money, though and a fun read, just double check the facts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Isis Lives
And this book can help you meet her (or just learn A LOT about her)! As Isis knew both joy and sorrow, she is a goddess that knows love and compassion, and has historically been known as one of the very few deities able to change fate. This book is filled with detailed accounts of her myths, her history, and her followers from all around the world. It also has many Isis-based rituals and meditation that can help you develop a deep relationship with her.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book Even if You're Not an Isiac
I used this book extensively to do some research for a book I'm writing, and it was very useful and inspiring to those ends.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 7 principles to live by
Doreen Virtue's "Divine Magic" explains in very clear and understandable terms the core of the 7 hermetic principles (mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, gender). She presents ancient universal wisdom in such a way that it can be applied to one's everyday life, in order to manifest positive effects in every aspect of it. She has clarified the original text (named the Kybalion, written around 1900) so we can assimilate it more easily with our 21st century minds. Again and again, I really appreciate the way Doreen Virtue presents metaphysical subjects in her very personal, down-to-earth practical way. The accompanying CD is also very good. Check out the 4th hermetic principle, use it and see your world become lighter and brighter ! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good!!!To Coin A Phrase, Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover!!!
I have the original version of this book, the one with the picture of the Broomstick Babe on the cover.I wasn't willing to pay full price for this book because of the picture, so bought it at my local Half-Price Books for a few dollars.Because of the picture, as well as Ms. RavenWolf's reputation, I really didn't expect much.
5-0 out of 5 stars Okay...So are we Wiccan or Catholic?
Wow! I just read a few reviews on here for this book and lets just say that I am ashamed to call myself apart of the Wiccan Religion right now! I have never been so humiliated before! People think this book is bad...its not real witchcraft...shes "fluffy"...Gardnarian Tradion is the ONLY way...you SHOULD read THESE authors and no others...is this sounding familiar? Unfortunatly, YES! People get so wound up in these so called "Witch Wars" that Wicca, once a religion that promoted "PERSONAL FREEDOM" to suit YOUR practice to YOUR needs is being transformed into a dogmatic "ONE WAY RELIGION". I was raised Catholic, hated the dogma and constant fear, To Ride a Silver Broomstick was my first book on The Craft given to me by my Wiccan girlfriend in High School. Silver showed me the way!
5-0 out of 5 stars I definately reccomend this book!
Silver delves into so many things I love. I guess my only regret is the lack of pre-outlined ritauls. I read this after TeenWitch and I think that that's her "fluffiest" book. This is so good and it rounded it out very nicely. I use both books when doing rituals, spells, and meditations, and even did the TeenSeeker ritual outlined in TeenWitch. Buy this book, and you will forever understand. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BestBook forChristian Slaves rediscovering the Natural Earth
I really enjoyed this book.It was bound to be published, sooner or later. If the Library of Alexandria did not burn and collapse, society would have seen this kind of book much sooner. Many rebels and magicians would have withered in the piazza's stockades, for circulating such an explosive tome about Nature.Let it be published!Through christianity and islam and communism, these power structures have done nothing to promote world peace and caring for the environment. Those institutions destroy the haptic pagan ,who then becomes numb to the ways of Nature and her Earth-Magick.Scott Cunningham has became a lightening rod for ridicule by the pudibund neo-right.The average Wiccan today ,was still wearing nappies, when Scott passed away.He would be amazed and delighted by the growth of the Old Religion today. Some potentially good Wiccans of the 60's were stymied by drifting into the Red Army Faction,Malcolm X's panthers and the Kirshna-Moonies.This is a great beginners book for all open-minded people ,who want to channel their energies in a more positive way. When one destroys an aspect of Nature, one destroys part of the whole cosmic-web,in which we all live on. Wicca is not about devil-worshipping,or a gateway path into Satantism.Nor an idle trip into Lotusland. The amusing Hollywood b-flicks ,hash-out alot of the wrong sterotypes about true Wicca.Latest being the ridiculously inaccurate ,"Wicker-Man" movie.Use this book as a primer, and then research for more advanced Wiccan studies.-As Jim Morrison once said,"You're all a bunch of slaves!".So,Wiccans of the Earth Unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains of ignorance!
