4-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better
I just finished reading The Glass Castle, a much different memoir, and this one is poorly written in comparison. Most of the problems are in editing. Sections of the story are repeated and there are some inconsistencies in timelines etc. It is an interesting story, and surely bittersweet for some who have lost a family member in a car accident. I would imagine that they are pleased for the author but at the same time tempted to wonder why their loved one wasn't "chosen" to survive.

3-0 out of 5 stars Heaven is just the beginning of the journey
90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper with Cecil Murphey is the story of Baptist minister, Don Piper, and the consequences of a January day when a horrendous collision with an 18-wheeler cost him his life--for 90 minutes.
1-0 out of 5 stars Should be called "3 years for Recovery" not "90 min in Heaven"
I gotta tell you, I dont read books very much..I'm not a big reader but the title of this book caught me. I wanted to read about heaven...I am a Christian and this book really caught my eye.

5-0 out of 5 stars The one that changed my life
It's hard to maintain an appropriate scientific skepticism when you find a book that has no epidemiological basis but manages to answer all of your most vexing life questions. This is the book that just "clicked" with me.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brings great peace of mind.
This book does more than any other book I have read to ensure peace of mind for those contemplating their own death or the death of a loved one. It gives detailed histories of soul progress from the time of death up to the choice of the next birth. The detail is convincing, and it fits with my extensive study of metaphysical literature on spiritual development and reincarnation. The stories carry more credibility because they come from a skeptical hypnotherapist who got into regression therapy to help people with behavior problems, and developed techniques for regressing the client to the cause of the problem. At first he was getting mainly childhood events, then he got a case involving a past life. In following his own curiosity, he learned to take clients through their death scene and into the various phases of life between lives. Thus far I have bought about 8 copies to share with friends, and have told many more about it. Don't miss it!

4-0 out of 5 stars A classic in the field
Moody is critical enough about what is going on that he makes a good investigator into the NDE phenomenon. There are too many flakes in the field and too many people aiming to crown themselves as spiritual gurus via their claim of having revelations during an NDE. Moody quite simply surveys people who have this experience and notes their similarities and differences. Then, he tries to put it into perspective - how might it be explained physically, psychologically, spiritually? What other phenomenon produce experiences that overlap with some of the ones reported in NDEs (e.g. high-gravity simulators)?
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This book is perfect for those who are just starting to read about Near Death Experiences. While I was reading this book, I kept thinking of how amazing it must have been when this was first published...because at the time, there had not been anything written like this!Once you read "Life After Life", you need to read "Lessons From The Light" by Kenneth Ring...because Kenneth Ring goes in to much greater detail about the actual near death experiences people had, and also goes in depth about how it forever changed their lives once they returned."Lessons From The Light" made a huge impression on me! Both books are A+++++

3-0 out of 5 stars An in-depth look into death and dying...

This is the second in a three book series by the renowned Master Hypnotherapist
5-0 out of 5 stars Destiny of Souls by Michael Newton
This book is a sequel to Journey of Souls , also by Michael Newton. I found both books fascinating reading, answering many questions I hadn't found covered in other books about past-life regression and life after death. I highly recommend these books for anyone interested in this topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book! Very Interesting!
I haven't read the Journey of Souls yet.I've purchased it and it'll arrive in the mail pretty soon. After reading Sylvia Brownes book "The Other Side", I had many questions about the validity of these information.Michael Newton actually answers these questions, but he obtains it not from his "so-called" guide, but from real people under hypnosis. From cases to cases, he has written what he believes the other side is like, the structure of the place, what we will go through after we die and what we do between lives. It's a fascinating book to read. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
I must admit that once I picked this book up it was hard to put down. A very intriguing book that explores the history and role of psychedelics, primarily DMT. Strassman has excellent insight and I believe his research has produced a significant leap for further discussion and research into the field of psychadelics. A must read for anyone even remotely interested in the topic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mind Candy, but with an Aftertaste
This book is a bit ponderous, to say the least - that's because I was interested in his clients' experiences and not the pedantic research crap (like the fact that they had to flush the IVs with saline). Lots of stuff in here begs the question, "Who Cares???" A better editor would have done this book wonders. Regarding the research, I find it highly disconcerting that EVERY ONE of his guinea pigs were huge into drugs. There was not a single person who was not a regular user of some kind of drug, and what's more, had done acid or 'shrooms hundreds of times. What would have been far more compelling is if he had done the test on people with a high level of spirituality but didn't require chemically altered states to achieve it. The book was poorly written and the research was questionable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
This book is incredibly scientiic. It does not appear to be overly idealistic about the subject matter. it actually offers a very realistic sense of the nature of psychedeclics and the role they play in contemporary society. The book is mostly cold hard facts that are often not entirely optimistic, but invredibly relevant. The final chapters do provide some speculations that would be of interest to anyone who studies the nature of consciousness and the idea of quantum realities. Strassman does indeed lay some solid groundwork for some pretty outrageous ideas. He presents them in a way that clearly indicates that he is aware of the response that these speculations may evoke from a great portion the population. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book that has a few troubling components
This is an enlightening book.It describes the author's personal experience and his interpretation of his experience.Storm was an atheist prior to the experience, and became an avid, empassioned Christian minister consequent to the experience. Therefore, in order to account for such a dramatic transformation, the reader might naturally assume that his experience was based in truth and "reality."
5-0 out of 5 stars TEN STARS WOULD BE TOO FEW
We are all moving toward death. The question is: What is the state of our soul? And, according to that state, what sort of reception will we receive as we make the passage from our earthly existence to a new world? If you think "there's probably nothing at all," think again. For decades now Kerlian photography at UCLA has been capturing the flight of the soul from the body at death. And weighing a person just before and just after death results in a difference of something like 38 grams--the soul even has weight! Don't miss the opportunity of a lifetime to read of one man's riveting experience of meeting demons, angels, and Jesus, and then be sent back to tell us what he saw, heard, and felt. Howard Storm, thank you for the gift of My Descent into Death. For those of you who are allergic to "being born again" or entrenched in your atheism, agnosticism or indifference, please pick up the book, open up your soul, and go through it again. This is your passage to the life you were meant to live--with God, our Father, with Jesus our Redeemer, and with the Holy Spirit, the very breath of God.

5-0 out of 5 stars God Loves You As You Are!
Howard Storm writes an honest and beautifully revealing account of his experiences after his near death episode. He reveals a God infinitely more complex, holy, and loving than the one taught to us in Sunday school. Our spiritual growth continues after death. Life here on earth is solely to do God's will and learn to love God and each other as Christ showed us in the Bible. What happens when we die? Is your religion the 'right' one? Does hell relly exist? Are there other worlds in the universe? These and many more questions are answered in Dr. Storms' riveting account. You won't put it down and then you'll read it again. A great gift to others on the search for truth. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spook Is Superb Science
If Woody Allen were to write a science book, this would be it.Mary Roach utilizes her enormous wit to make her sometimes highly technical investigations fascinating and fun.She admits to being a skeptic, but suspends disbelief as she investigates the supernatural world. She is enormously fair. She readily admits that the skeptics may be right "but they are no fun to go to the graveyard with."So she maintains that spirit of wonder as she exacts the high standard of proof that science demands. If you are looking for validation that ghosts, without a doubt, are watching you sleep, she will not provide that certainty. But she will tell you about the sometimes ingenius ways that spiritualists and paranormal specialists are going about trying to prove it.So her book is somewhat like Lewis Thomas' NOTES OF A BIOLOGY WATCHER in that you get a layman's education on how the soul has been searched for.You get Woody Allen's wit and Carl Sagan's concern for unbiased evidence as you travel through this fascinating culture of afterlife specialists who just may, in the end, be privy to dimensions the rest of us cannot see.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring - Avoid this Book!
I love ghost stories and stories of the 'beyond' and all that those categories entail. That said, I hate this book.Mary Roach has the authorial voice of a 12 year old.I read the first chapter thinking, 'wow, this book might as well have been edited by a middle school yearbook writer.'There are a plethora of books on the market dealing with this subject matter.Pick any of them.Leave Mary Roach on the bookshelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for support
I have read this book before and just recently re-purchased it based on some things that were going on in my own family. It is a great primer for both the person who may be experiencing a life threatening illness, or even just a life changing illness, as well as a guide for all of the family members and friends who may be offering support. It provides an expectation for the emotional roller coaster than both the patient and the family members will experience so that they are better prepared to work through the issues, and keep the lines of communication open.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
Someone gave me this book after my husband of 32 years died suddenly.I can only say I wish I had read it sooner. Two points make the book WONDERFUL for me.An acclaimed scientist and author wrote the text in 1977 and vocalized the unconditional love you experience after death.Secondly, when I was a lifeguard I had this experience while rescuing a child who did live but I almost died.My mentor told me I had only an hallucination due to oxygen deprivation. After that judgement by him, I never trusted the vision and feelings I had experienced.I rarely spoke of the incident and only to 2 very trusted friends who were dying of heart problems to give them comfort prefacing my experience with the words of my coach. While 'Life after Life' was validating, Kubler-Ross gets right to the point on page 16.Knowing that past experience was real would have made my husband's death easier for me I think.I hope this book helps you in your journey as the book helped me.I now give this book to anyone I know experiencing death.

I first became very interested in the work of Stanislav Grof because of my own experines with non-ordinary states. He is perhaps a member of a small, yet increasing, group of academics that are not chained by the current mechanical scientism paradigm. In this book, he reflects on decades of research and experines that shatter that paradigm. The writiting style is very warm and clear. This is a very exciting book and enchances many of his other books.I would suggest that anyone with a curious nature and open mind read his books. ... This book is very objective, taking consideration of other peoples views, and disects near death experiences. It also focuses on various studies conducted on the subject of death. I'd highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars I was expecting more, do I have to have an NDE?
The Light Beyond is a wonderful book, but so many people just focus on their own lessons they learned, which makes for an interesting story, but I am always looking for more - how does this apply to me? Do I have to have an NDE myself? I liked Tiffany Snow's book better, just one chapter about her greatNDE, but the rest of it shows how anyone can open up, if they learn how. I'm not saying The Light Beyond is a bad book, really, but I guess I was just expecting more.

No doubt most Christians will be entertained by this read.Eadie asserts that all people may not come to know Christ as the savior in this life but that they "must" accept his love in the next. The implications of a continued denial are not addressed (along with many other things she supposedly gained insight toward).I don't necessarily disagree with or discount Ms. Eadie's account, I simply find it to be overtly biased. Her explanation of our ability to reconnect with past lives with the usage of hypnosis is in a word, weak. She explains it as "cell memory."This I've never debated but, she goes on to assert that reincarnation does not exist, which left me wondering just what are we remembering then. She contradicts herself greatly here.

5-0 out of 5 stars FORTY YEARS OF UNIVERSITY RESEARCH ARE BEHIND THIS BOOK
This book takes you methodically through individual cases of early childhood memories of past lives. These cases are thoroughly and professionally documented, researched and objectively judged as plausible or not...all in a scientific manner.More compelling proof that reincarnation exists.

4-0 out of 5 stars great book
I already think reincarnation in some form is a given, so the parts of the book that ponder other explanations for the research reported in this book didn't interest me that much, but I loved reading the stories and really loved the correlations he conducted.I would have liked more of those - I'm sure that's something that will come in the future. Most important, I think this book demonstrates the positive balance between the scientific model and the psycho-spiritual approach.Neither one approach throwing out the other, but using the best of each to enhance the other.Easy to read and extremely interesting!

5-0 out of 5 stars unanswered questions
I have had so nany unanswered questions about re-incarnation, I love the way this book draws on the scientific, and common sense,Then allows you to just draw your own conclusions. The many years of research put together stories that are riveting, It helps take away the taboo in our western world of believing in re-incarnation. At the same time, in no way does the author try to force oppinions on you.It is strictly from a scientific view. ... Read more

I have twice now attended Kathie Jordan's intimate evenings at Open Secret Books in San Rafael, CA, and I can assure anyone that being with Kathie for even a brief period of time leaves one with no doubt whatsoever that she has sat upon Jesus' knee.
2-0 out of 5 stars Almost taken in
Having read several other books on out-of-body and near-death experiences, I was at first drawn into the tale that was being woven. That came sharply to a halt when the author depicted Jesus speaking to a group of departed souls in sixteenth century English. Give me a break!

4-0 out of 5 stars Exhaustive research, murky conclusion
Anyone interest in near death experiences or life after death should strongly consider reading this book. The research involved here is some of the most extensive, albeit exhausing I have ever read on any subject.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Home Spun, New Age Spirituality
Doreen Virtue has certainly become a popular brand name the world over. Making a very lucrative career for herself with her user friendly home spun style of new age mysticism and spirituality. Though I find her approach overly simplistic and unsophisticated at times. Her books and oracle cards are none the less, always enjoyable, attractive and insightful in a light handed way. This is no exception. A cute handy little pocket guide for all of us 'Earth Angels', who want to know what category we fit into to. A sort of spiritual personality guide for all those 'lightworkers' who feel different or 'special' in some way, a misfit in the world. Certainly you can recognize the archetypes she describes when you look around, and the physical traits and behaviour which correlate to each particular 'Earth Angel'. But ultimately I don't think you can make any hard and fast rules about such things. I mean I'm not trying to be silly, but how would one recognize these types in the peoples of countries like China or India, where they generally have similar features, builds, hair and skin colour, and culturally learned behaviour? I'd like to ask Ms Virtue that actually. I wonder how her very Western and commercial brand of metaphysical wisdom would sit with the Aboriginies, or the tribes in Africa and other very culturally separate societies? They must have their own 'Doreen Virtues' with spirit groups and categories I guess. It's a very Western and European take on things is all I'm saying.
