4-0 out of 5 stars Very complete... but very complex
A excellent and serious book about self initiation in the Golden Dawn magic system. But it's very complex too. This big book will teach you a lot of details about magical things and cosmogony, through a one or two year's "evening class".
2-0 out of 5 stars Changes and Errors
There are some gross errors in this book (especially in the artwork) that make me wonder as to the real accomplishments and attainments of the authors. The errors are such that I don't believe them to be intentional blinds. The Cicero's have removed nearly all traces of the Judeao-Christian Masonic themes from the Golden Dawn and have emphasized the Egyptian and Neo-Pagan.In doing so, key mystical truths have been omitted.
5-0 out of 5 stars Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn...
This is a keystone piece of modern literature for the Western Esoteric Tradition. Not for the faint of heart, this tome encloses prodigious knowledge from around the world and throughout the ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars golden dawn
Very good book - can be called a bible for humans, who are looking for self-awakening. Many interesting rituals and informations about modern magic and The Golden Dawn louge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Isreal lives
What can I say..awsome book by one of the Great Magi of our times!Gives you the complete system from top to bottom as far as the Golden Dawn goes.Beginers could use this book...but Id suggest Donald Michael Criegs "Modern magick" first if your realy new to the system! But just to help give you some foundation before you dive into this complete Tome.Suppliment it with some od Isreal's teachings on CD and youll go far.......fast!

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference, not for beginners
Step by step instruction is lacking and certain fundamental ideas are assumed to be known and understood by the reader...a complete beginner would be lost with this book alone. It is an invaluable reference for someone who has a certain level of practical experience, but a book like Don Kraig's Modern Magick would be preferable to start with.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific How-To Guide
This book begins with a history of how lodges came into being, which is interesting in and of itself. It then discusses the pros and cons of being in a lodge. It also covers all the nuts and bolts of what goes into a lodge and lodge work.
5-0 out of 5 stars How To Form Western Esoteric Group
Finally a decent book on forming a group in a modern, esoteric, manner. Prior to this book, there hasn't been much on the structuring of a formal magical lodge/order outside of a few Wiccan Circle types of books. The closest I've come across is the late William G. Gray's "Inner Temple Magic" and that had more to do with WHAT to do while in a magical order than it did about forming one.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great information, but bring salt.
Greer does a great service to the occult community with this book. Some of the best parts of this book deal with the drudgework and mundane aspects of lodge management -- creating the ritual, handling the legal aspects of creating a lodge, and maintaining the lodge on the administrative end. However, when he starts getting into the inner parts of lodgework, he tends to pass off his own personal (or his tradition's) theories and ideas as fact. It's a great deal of good information to ponder, but shouldn't necessarily be taken literally.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An occult classic
Every student of occult sciences should have this volume of work in their occult library. It is one of the "bread and butter" grimoires of Western Occultism. A lot of occult philosophical teachings that developed after the age of Agrippa have their foundation in H.C. Agrippa's writings. I am always amazed Agrippa developed such a large and vast body of magickal knowledge as well as knowledge of the natural world. His writings are not easily understood in some chapters but this book is not meant to be read "novel style". It is an occult textbook and one must read it as such.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on Occultism
I just purchase Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosphy and I must say so far it has been one of, if not the best, book I've read on occultism, magic, or western occulticism/religion/metaphysics.Here are a few of the things that really impressed me:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Timeless Masterwork of the Arch-Magus
Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy - a volume which is literally worth a barrow-load of today's contrived and wearisome pseudo-esoteric tomes. All the more amazing when you consider that this towering encyclopedic exposition of the Renaissance Magical Tradition was written when Agrippa Von Nettesheim was but 23 years old - clearly a 'fiery genius' as Erasmus termed him.Herein Agrippa guides the student through the three realms of the universe unfolding the Magical mysteries and technical lore along the way in fulsome and fascinating detail, ascending the Platonic Chain of Being from the sublunary or Natural World, through the astral and mathematical harmonies of the Celestial World high into the archetypal realms of Demons, Angels, Spirits and Gods in the Divine World, winging ever upwards beyond all multiplicity toward the unio mystica with the transcendent One, the Summum Bonum or Agathon of Plotinian philosophy.

This is a long Novena. It is 27 days of asking and 27 days of Thanksgiving. My mother has been saying this Novena for years. Not until I was over 30 did I borrow hers.I believe in this Novena. It is very powerful. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic of Occult Fiction
After reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke last year (2005), I was in the mood for more magically-oriented fiction. While reading Joscelyn Godwin's The Theosophical Enlightenment, I was re-introduced to Edward Bulwer-Lytton and his novel Zanoni. My first introduction to this work was years ago while reading H. P. Lovecraft's "Supernatural Horror in Literature".Lovecraft discusses Zanoni and A Strange Story, both of which reflect Bulwer-Lytton's occult interests, and he says certain details of incantations were probably due to Bulwer-Lytton's contact with Alphonse Louis Constant (a.k.a. Eliphas Levi), a French occultist.According to Godwin, "the novel is an encyclopedia of ideas about the occult sciences."
5-0 out of 5 stars high magic
If you are a serious student of the occult this book is a must! Each and every character and movement has a place in the understanding of the Mystical Dance in which we are all involved. "Zanoni" and "Mejnour" will teach you the harmonic scales, however your ears must be finely attuned to their music. This a great Rosicrucian novel! loreto ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Picture is Worth Ten Thousand Words
This little book, first published in 1617 at the height of the Rosicrucician furor, has never received full recognition as an important and authentic early Rosicrucian document. That's a real shame, because in these 40 engraved drawings, Cramer was able to explore the Rosicrucian mysteries in a way that many volumes of the written word could never accomplish.

3-0 out of 5 stars Key?
There are numerous topics discussed in this book including `proof of God', the true religion, Science & Faith, the Qabalah, morality & virtue, Christianity and the evocation of spirits etc. Inclusive of this are numerous social and political comments as pertains to the time when Eliphas Levi wrote this book and earlier times. There are way too many jumbled topics leaving you wondering what the actual `key of the mysteries' is; a good way to market this book nonetheless. Perhaps the tile should be `Lots of little keys', but then you would not sell as many books. Personally, I could not wait to finish this book and get on with other books that hopefully offer greater esoteric depth.
4-0 out of 5 stars Occult Philosophy
I was impressed at this book for a few reasons. It was the sequel to Transcendental Magic also by Levi and I really liked that book. I accomplished a long term goal by finally being able to afford and actually get in my occult grimoires collection a book by Eliphas Levi. Wicca was a ripoff of Aleister Crowley who in turn was a ripoff of Eliphas Levi, with Crowley even claiming to be the reincarnation of Levi. Even though I questioned Crowley myself if he was just looking for hard earned fame, the fact that he was apparently actually obsessed with esoteric subjects; he was the translater of this English version by Weiser books being offered here. I liked and respected Levi for his books on the occult and his drawing of the baphomet. I think this book could've been better written; some of it is a fictional story and other times just seemed like a cash in on the author's own notoriety. Get this book if you can afford it just because it is an impressive addition to anyone's collection. I don't really hate Christians nor Christianity, it's just I don't like they try to convert people on a mass scale and one of the reasons why I got into the occult is they don't try to convert people. You can get books by Levi and others on your own free will; they won't stop and harass you on the street or telemarket you in your home. Overall, it could've been better but as it is I still like it a lot and wouldn't really recommend this book by itself. Though it does have sound arguments validitating any non Christian lifestyle.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Catholic Mystery than Magic ...
A difficulty approaching Levi's work is that his books are marketed under the heading of magic. Yet the later Levi moved steadily away from magic. As the anonymous author of Meditations on the Tarot wrote: `Eliphas Levi - this intrepid magician who evoked Apollonius of Tyana in London - having surpassed the bounds of ceremonial magic concentrated on the mysticism and gnosis of Christian Hermeticism. He passed through the Faustian trial ...'

If you had known HOW to use chart D in the book , you would have gone "short " in the stock market after 9/11 .I did. As for travel , it was a very good day to travel away from new york. The first news accounts said that over 5,000 people are in the World Trade Center every morning.Well, 3,000 traveled somewhere else on that day.---Use it be fore you knock it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Self Mastery And Fate With The Cycles Of Life by Spencer H. Lewis
For those people who can see patterns in their lives and that have the understanding that everything is a cycle, this book is an invaluable tool. It seems to align with The Life You Were Born to Live by Dan Millman, only it fills in some of the missing blanks. A must have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Why Rosy-Cross's review is incorrect?
According to the book September 11th WAS not a good day for taking short journeys of any kind. Also, you do not HAVE to get the coin but if Rosy-Cross had it he would have seen that he was in error as to what kind of influences were in the time period of the morning of September 11th. 5-0 out of 5 stars Lynchpin of the Rosicrucian Philosophy
Surfacing in 1616, the Chemical Wedding was the third and last commentary released by the Rosicrucians. Whereas the first two manifestos-the Fama and Confessio-were seditious declarations which seem to possess more of a fairy-tale quality than anything else, the Wedding stands on its own merit as one of the most profound and impenetrable hermetic allegories ever written. The story centers on a man who is summoned by an Angel to witness and take part in a mysterious process that bears very little resemblance to an actual wedding. Despite the success of he and his compeers (qualified by a selection where the other candidates who are not worthy to participate are killed) the story ends in sagacious irony, leaving the protagonist to stand guard over his reward, forbidding him to ever glimpse it. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Foundation of Rosicrucianism
An essential text. Godwin is the premier scholar in America in this area. This text, along with two manifestoes (the Fama and Confessio) made a majorcultural and political impact in 17th century Europe and up through the18th century in Germany. The Chemical Wedding is an allegorical tale of theprocesses of "alchemy." Written in coded and highly symboliclanguage, the book is historically important, but also important for thepracticioner of spiritual alchemy or ritual magic in the Golden Dawn orRosicrucian traditions. For the other two manifestoes purchase FrancesYates "The Rosicrucian Enlightenment," a controversial butexcellent scholary text on 17th century Europe and the influence ofEsoteric Christianity.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A View of the Hidden Side of Life
Rudolph Steiner's works, like the writings of H. P. Blavatsky, open windows into a hidden world most people do not even know exists. Although the ideas they brought forth are claimed to be older than history itself, they set the scene for the "New Age" movement of the last century. Rudolph wrote about what he called the "supersensible" worlds, the hidden realities beyond the world of form and substance or this material universe and its immutable laws of nature. He speaks of invisible worlds and invisible energies and of the origins and genesis of all things, both the hidden and the familiar. What he teaches is the "perennial philosophy,"the most ancient of spiritual traditions that come to light periodically when such light is most needed. The ancient wisdom Steiner reveals come from his readings and interpretations of the imperishable Akashic records of all that is and all that ever was.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough and fair-minded review of Rosicrucian evolution
For those with a preliminary interest in the Rosicrucian (R+C) philosophy and teachings, this is a good overall introduction. The book ties together the Gnostic- and Hermetic-influenced origins of the R+C and various accounts of their evolution through the ages up to the 1990s.5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!!!!!!
One of the best books I've read on the subject of Rosicrusianism. It's a little bit too short but the information is good and gives the reader anintroduction to the Rosicrusian history after Fama.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well researched
If you are already a rosicrucian, this book will not help you since you have inside information. But if you want to read a true historian's view on facts involving the Rosicrucian movement, this is an excellent book. Theauthor made a very thorough job of investigating sources.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Indepth and profound Treatise on the Knights Templar paradigm
Indepth and very profound Treatise on the Knights Templar paradigm. The book discusses the Eastern and Islamic (Sufi) influences upon Templar knowledge. Mr. Pinkham also expounds on the "Female Principle" or the "Sacred Feminine". The "Kundalini" and how one can and did achieve this state is a major part of this work. This book is not for your conventional thinking reader or religious type. Mr. Pinkham also highlights the significance of the "black" Madonnas of Europe. The interviews with current Templars and the Sinclair family lends the book a certain authenticity that other authors on the subject have not achieved. Some of the modus operandi afforded the Templars by Mr. Pinkham I might tend to question in regards to (Tantric Sexand ritual etc.)for achieving Kundalini power. But nonetheless a very thought provoking work and I would highly recommend this work with "The Huevolution of Sacred Muur Science Past and Present" 2005 by Noble Timothy Myers-El.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some Great Ideas but Lacking Focus
I picked up this book having come across Mr. Pinkham's International Order of Gnostic Templars website. I have found that most books on the Templars either concentrate on their rather mundane history participating in the various crusades and their influence on the politics of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem or are ridiculous pseudo-histories about bloodlines, secret inner orders, treasures, and supposed Grand Masters. Alas no matter how enticing the megalomaniac tendencies of a few Nationalist Frenchmen in the 1950's might be, they do not make a history. Being very familiar with Masonic Templarism and with the long line of serious French researchers exploring the possible Gnostic characteristics of the Templar Order I was excited that an English language author was trying to tackle the subject. This book seemed different and I am glad to say, after reading it, that it is. I am also happy to recommend it (with some caveats) to all those wishing to explore the "Heretical Doctrine" of the Templars. It may be hard for many to believe given the current emphasis in the literature but the true secret of the Templars is not a treasure, not a physical cup, a bloodline, a tomb, parchments or anything else tangible...the true secret of the Templars is a system of Sacred Knowledge (Gnosis). As a deeply spiritual man Mark Amaru Pinkham understands this intuitively and I commend him for his sincerity and his efforts. I also think he is looking in the right places for the nature of that Knowledge. My criticism is rather on the way he is looking.
3-0 out of 5 stars Must take with a whole bag - not a grain - of salt
I'm a big fan of anything Knight related (though nowhere near an expert), and am willing to read even the most 'out-there' theories, but in this case, Mark takes a great leap into the history and myth, then falls off the planet - literally.
