2-0 out of 5 stars Heresies doom people, but Christ Jesus saves you from Eternal Damnation. Avoid the Cathechism.
There is no such thing as purgatory. After death, comes the Judgement of God (Jesus Christ). It so says in the Bible. I am just saying that if this book helps one or you Believe in Our Creator (Christ Jesus), great, but there is no such thing as purgatory. This is why we must believe in the Commandments as well as praying to Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Bible, the Holy Bible is the Only Official Book Of God which everyone should follow. Reading the catechism and following the catechism will only doom one to hell. The Bible never talks about the catholic catechism. If it did, it be in there but the truth of the matter is that it is not there. If it is not in the Bible, then it is just dangerous. I am an Evangelical Christian, & i read the Holy Bible. You want Salvation, read the Bible, and Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...Love Jesus and Follow the Commandments. Believing in the lie of purgatory only gives you more chance at ending up in hell...so repent of your sins, and Follow Jesus...i don't recommend this book at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Short Book But Full of Important Messages!
This booklet is a very good introduction to the doctrine on Purgatory and gives us the viewpoint from an extraordinary lady, Maria Simma from Sonntag, Austria who has been visited frequently by the souls in purgatory. For a full understanding of the doctrine on purgatory, I strongly recommend you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church first before trying this booklet as it will then make more sense to you. There is nothing doctrinally wrong with what is written here although one should be well-versed in the faith to really get the most out of this booklet.I've read it recently for the second time and it made much more sense to me now than it did the first time.I had since joined the RCIA as a sponsor and endeavoured to learn more about my faith, reading and attending bible classes etc and so it made much more sense to me the second time around.Thank goodness God doesn't judge us on what is "fair" or what we "deserve" because we all deserve death by that token. What's great is the concept of accountability and restoring what is right by making restitution for what we have done wrong. There's no doubting God's forgiveness but we have to also make good the wrongs we have been forgiven for or at least try to lest our faith become a dead faith (read the letter of James for more clarity).Anyone seen the tv show "My Name is Earl?" or even the movie "Flatliners?"

5-0 out of 5 stars The Main Concept Here Is: Pray to Jesus Christ-Always.
The main idea here is about believing in Jesus Christ.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great month-long devotional journey
I am a pastor, and I have been using this book in my devotional life.I began on the first day of August, and have read one chapter per day.The reading for each day is short enough to not be a burden, but meaty enough to give me plenty to think about. Each chapter ends with a prayer which I have made my own. This book really is "a school" of prayer: I'm now on day 19, and I can truly say that I have learned lots and my prayer life has deepened.Even as a pastor with seminary training, I have been challenged by this book.It is a classic that speaks on many levels, and I imagine that I will take this journey again in subsequent years.I heartily recommend this book to anyone, clergy or lay, who wants a stronger prayer life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Foundational Book on Prayer!
The principles on this Murray book by Whitaker, I have used extensively!!Thank God that Whitaker House keeps printing books written by Andrew Murray! If it were not for Whitaker House publishing their books, we would not have Murray books to share with others (as well as study ourselves). All five of my Andrew Murray "Believer's Secret" books, published by Bethany House Publishers are out of print.
5-0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC THAT WILL NOT FAIL TO INSPIRE YOU!
This book was written many years ago and yet its message is still as valid and beautiful as it was long ago.Jesus' teachings on prayer are closely examined and the life of a praying man or woman is shown for the powerful thing it really is!I'm 29 years old and have loved this book since age 14! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good intro into who believes what
This book provides a nice and, I believe, well balanced overview of most of the significant Christian denominations and other major non-Christian religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. It offers a well-organized, clear and concise snapshot of each religion's beliefs, teachings, religious practice and worship. The book is edited from an Evangelical Lutheran perspective, so each religion is compared to Lutheran faith and practice. If you are a Lutheran, you can use these sections to compare other religions to your own beliefs.if you're not Lutheran, you can use the book for the wealth of other information contained in it.This reviewer is a Lutheran clergyman practicing hospital chaplaincy in a large multicultural medical center. It provides information that I use on a regular basis as I encounter patients, family members and hospital staff people of various cultures and religions.A good resource! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Book might be biased, but so are the reviews
Everyone i see criticizing this book is telling people to go out and find out for themselves. While normally this would be logical, in this case to get any true first hand objective experience with The Church of Scientology, you'd have to pay them and go through their auditing programs.Getting books that are pro-scientology is the same as reading ones that have a negative bias.Unless you're going to front money to get auditing, which is exactly what they want, your only reliable source is what a former member has to say on the subject. This book presents that in an acceptable manner. So to people advising me to go find out for myself, I say no thanks.I'll keep my money in my own pocket and out of the hands of Scientology.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written.
The author should go back to doing whatever it was he was doing before attempting to write. Poorly researched and poorly written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Like Any Other Cult....
This is a very detailed book mostly about the formation of scientology and how it evolved over the last few decades around the leadership and movements of L. Ron Hubbard (a former science fiction writer - and it shows!) up to the time of his death. It is very hard to comprehend how any person can follow the teachings of this man who is a documented liar and criminal and most probably crazy. Stories about high level members who were instructed to commit shocking crimes as well as many instances of abuse, brainwashing, irrational no-hold-barred attacks of anyone deemed a threat to scientology, destruction of innocent people's lives and families as well as (arguably) slavery are hard to swallow. I was expecting to be enlighted about another religion's way of thinking...instead I am shocked at what I read and am left to wonder how any person can follow the teachings of this incredibly corrupt and cult-like organization. Very interesting. Very detailed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars SUPERNATURAL HEALTH
Generational family curses are certainly issues to look at. However - the message of healing, wholeness and deliverance goes much further. My recommendation of a book to read is SUPERNATURAL HEALTH - the ISBN of the book is 0975595741 and the author is Samuel Townsend. Generational family curses are just a piece - finding healing and wholeness and prosperity in every area of your life is a function of the gospel. You will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth you know will set you FREE
This book is life-changing. I have given countless copies away to the people I love. We all have patterns that have been passed down our family line...some of them that you know you don't want, nor do you want your children to inherit. God has blessings awaiting you to replace these generational curses. If you are tired of struggling with the same old thing, get this book to get set free for good. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time
I am surprised by the glowing reviews posted because I found the book shallow, incomplete and devoid of any useful detail.Of course the price is very low, but paying anything for something that has no value is no bargain.
5-0 out of 5 stars a beautiful to the point book.... A MUST HAVE.
this small pamphlet of information is very helpful. it points out the first typed bible, first bible written in english and also bibles that were written to satisfy certain kings and a lot of other good points. it points out the many bibles that were printed in the u.s. which were 16 different versiions. i feel sorry for christians and catholics. see this pamphlet of information just re-affirms for me to keep following my african roots in religion. i wonder what religion this author is. i doubt chrisitian. i believe these bibles in america change so often because they have to always trick or keep the next generation away from the truth. because of authors like dr. ben and books such as this i can easily pick out everything african out of the bible and place it in my heart. although im not christian or muslim or any thing thats popular in religion, i read the bible to pluck all black ancient history formy research. i also read the bible because most christians and catholics dont and i love to know more than they do about their own religoin and i usually put christian and catholics in their place using their own book against them. with books such as this one with the symbol of life on the cover, now i see why black celebs such as chuck d., erika bahdu, etc have used the symbol of life (african cross) on their album covers. its all african. i love dr. ben and all black man who looked death in the face and still brought forth this valuable information of truth to you and i. we all know blacm men were getting killed all the time for printing the truth. i love dr. ben for not being afraid of using freedom of speech especially durning his time in the earlier 1900's when we were really being lynched an killed just because we wanted human rights. THANK YOU DR. BEN.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Good and Honest!"
Dr. Ben has given us a simple, straight to the point summary on what scholars should know on Bibical History. For those who think that he has a secret agenda, reader know that Dr. Ben is indeed a Jew.Judaism practicers were originally all Africans. This could be understood if you are aware that Judaism springs from Egypt, wich is in Africa. Examples range from the creation story(Khnum),the flood(Ra and Hathor),Jacobs the dreamer, monotheism(Ahkenaton), the golden calf(Hathor), 7 day creation, the Laws(Book of the Dead), and the Christ myth(Osiris,Isis, and Horus)got their model in Egypt. Not to mention according to the Bible Abraham,Jacob,Joseph,Moses, and Jesus all went to Egypt. Also any Bibical schoar should know that the old testament wasn't compiled until 200 B.C at the library of Alexandria, in Egypt. It was written from Hyroglyphics, and papyras texts of the Egyptians. This is not just speculation, but fact.Anybody serious in this study should read African Origin of Western Religion(Dr. Ben), Arican presence in Early Asia(Ivan Van Sertima), 16 Crucified Saviors(Kersey Graves), and Aricans who wrote the Bible(Nana Darkwah). ... 2-0 out of 5 stars This book doesn't do what it says on the label.
This book doesn't do what it says on the label. It is not a practical, hands-on, guide to Benedictine spirituality for lay people. It is more a guide book, background, history and explanation for those people on their way to becoming lay oblates with a particular Benedictine Monastery. It would be extremely useful for someone taking formal steps of becoming an oblate, and would perhaps help them explain what being an oblate entails to friends and family. What itwon't do is give clear guidance and advice on implementing the Rule of Benedict in everyday life. It doesn't tell you how to *live* as a monastic in the world. More, it tells you how to become formally associated with a monastery and what this might entail.

3-0 out of 5 stars lay monasticism
The title leads one to believe that this is as hands-on as Beyond the Walls, by Paul Wilkes, or The Inner Room, by Mark Plaiss. This book is more of a history and discussion of the Benedictines, and less a practical guide to incorporating Benedictine monasticism into everyday life.

4-0 out of 5 stars The next step up.....
This teaches you more techniques to use in candle magick. You get to use stones now!!! Again... very informative.... but not enough useful spells/rituals. Get practical candleburning rituals with this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars More Complicated
I of course tried Buckland's Practical Candle Magick with success and was curious I got this but advanced does mean advanced. I agree with one other review- dress the candles? Where I live in the Twin Ports area who can get stuff like candles and incense and also pentagram amulets, etc at local stores even something like Wal Mart had roly poly votive holders the same ones as seen on online occult shops. I haven't tried any of these yet. A lot of where the advanced part comes in a lot of this stuff is hard to get and pricey- like a crystal ball those are usually at least 50 bucks. Not as well suited for younger audiences who rely mostly on money from parents plus whatever they get these odd jobs here and there like mowing lawns or babysitting but still barely anything like 20 bucks. Overall, I would still say this is worth getting but a little on the tacky side with some unintentional humor with the drawings. I want to try the puberty spell- I want to grow a habdlebar mustache.

5-0 out of 5 stars He really means it- Advanced!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A crucial read if you're sick of going shopping
Sometimes the words you're looking for come from the most unlikely places. Sobonfu Some's contribution is absolutely crucial if we are to find a counterbalance to our consumer culture. Singles, couples, adults and teenagers alike will find rewarding activities in this book which warm the heart more than going shopping can, and it's a gasp of fresh air. I hadn't realised the import of how we connect to other people until I read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bestbooks to read
I recommend The Spirit of Intimacy by Sobonfu Som as a must read for all but especially for couple in search of a healthy relationship. Enjoy

I remember how much we liked Kahlil Gibran's 'The Prophet' back in 1969. This is another little book (even easier to carry around) which is chock full of knowledge and wisdom, but it's even more. It will get you high just reading it, even though to truly practice what Ms. Some writes about will truly take a lot of work. But if you can find a group of people who want to support each other in this way, by all means . . .Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Good Book
If no one said anything, you might not even know that there's anything Kabbalah in the book. It's a very light reading with a lot of positive info and wisdom. I truly enjoyed the read and it has stuck with me over the years and made a valuable impact.
4-0 out of 5 stars Deep Thoughts And Wisdom
An inspiring book in a light hearted way.David Aaron interweaves biblical stories with real life tales of spiritual growth. I enjoyed the analogy how man would not be suited to having an animal as a help mate. Thus woman was created. Each chapter ends with some questions for thought which one can read again at a later date.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Wisdom in a "Bottle"
This is the second book I am reading from Rabbi David Aaron. I am an octogonarian and have learned most of the wise teachings of Kabbala interpreted and explained in such an easy understandable languege, rather from long life experience, I think all young teen-agers and adults, should be taught and learn these "instructions" to life and enjoy a productive and meaningfull life. It is true that what one learns from experience - making mistakes - has more indelibility in ones phsyche, then just learning or studying. However knowing early in life the true purpose of life = love, could spare mankind of a lot of unnecesary suffering. Thank you Rabbi of making this deep and abstract "philosophy" so enjoyable and easily understandable.

Editorial Review

This is a book that was recommended to me, and I have to admit that it is one of the best scholarly texts on the history of European Pagan religions. Jones and Pennick trace the evolution of Pagan religions in Greece and Rome, the religions of the Celts, Paganism in Germany and the Balkans, and the current Pagan revival. Filled with concise information and illustrations which add to the content rather than distracting from it, I'm sure I'll be referring to this book again in the future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great place to start
I have read many books on paganism, and unfortunately, a high percentage of those offer up history that is not at all well researched or accurate. This book is a good introduction and while no book is perfect, has some well researched information to get a person started. Get this book if you are not sure what pre-christian culture you would like to study and what to get a taste of many different groups - if something catches your eye, there is a bibliography to find out more.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Illuminating Book
Jones & Pennick (J&P) present a well-documented text that provides substantial history for pagan culture, society, and religion.Their work does not challenge or argue with faith traditions.Their task is simply to offer available information about Europe's original socio-religious culture.(J&P speak only briefly to Asian and Middle Eastern influences.)Their point is to inform, not convert.
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome overview
This ADF approved text proved to be very enjoyable. Not only was it more educational than it's slim 220 pages would lead you to believe, it was also well written and not at all dry. This book is perfect for anyone wanting a broad spectrum treatment of pagan europe as well as having descriptive chapters on the Greeks, Romans, Celts, Germanic, Baltic, Russian and Baltic.
