5-0 out of 5 stars Great, life-changing book.
We as Americans have gotten so far away from even the thought of taking an entire day to rest, regroup, and be refreshed. It seems to be beyond our imagination that taking such a day could actually make the rest of our week go even better and that we will be not only more productive, but happier and peaceful.I am so grateful to Lynne Baab for writing this book because it helped confirm that having a day of rest is really imperative for our spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.Since I started my Sabbath days I can truly notice a difference in
5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful way to understand the beauty of the Sabbath!
This book is an easy read, but packed full of practical wisdom about keeping the Sabbath. It helped me to see how the ancient tradition of Sabbath-keeping can benefit us in the fast-paced world we live in today.Lynne recognizes the vast differences in each of our lives, and has ideas and suggestions that we can each apply in the way that works for us.If you want an easy way to understand how observing the Sabbath can bring joy to your life, just set aside a morning to do nothing but sit on the couch with this book and a cup of coffee or tea. You'll be changed after the experience! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finding the Inner Christ and Inner Peace
I became a Christian almost 30 yaers ago. For much of that time I was in the "wilderness". Believing that what the Church taught was, alot of time, at odds with what Christ taught. "Love thy enemies" is just one example. This book is filled with Love, beauty and understanding that make what Christ taught seem to leap off the page right into your heart! If you have been feeling something is missing (love?)in the current form of Christianity, read this book. My heart swells whenever I read portions of this book! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good writing but don't expect a theology primer
While a different Catholic wrote each one of the chapters, often with great style, this should not be a source for understanding what the Church teaches on the seven sacraments.Rather, these authors reflect on their own personal experiences regarding the sacrament that is their topic, sometimes bringing in Church teaching, but always concentrating on their own perspective. There are a few gold nuggets in these missives, but there are certainly plenty of times when the knowledgeable reader (regardless of where they fall on the orthodox-progressive scale) will get riled up.In any case, the thoughtful reader will want to be well grounded in the sacraments (try the Catechism of the Catholic Church) before setting out into these murky waters.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a sign of grace...
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that the sacraments were instituted by Christ, entrusted to the Church, and are the primary way divine life is experienced by the faithful. This elegant collection of essays by Catholic writers is at once personal, relevant, and contempory while being steeped in a spiritual tradition centuries old. For non-Catholics, this is ainformative and literate introduction to the sacraments. For Catholics, this is an articulation of the meaning and symbols of our faith by some of the very best current writers. Use this book to deepen and inform your faith. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A light on the Western mystical tradition
The four medieval mystics discussed here bear witness to the depth and intelligence of English spirituality in the 14th century, and their work may show the way forward for a religion that seems to have become sterile, especially in its Protestant version. Armstrong discusses each of the four mystics in an introduction to selections from their major works that are reproduced here:Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An introduction to the art of painting the greatest icons of the Christian faith
A Brush With God: An Icon Workbook by Peter Pearson is an introduction to the art of painting the greatest icons of the Christian faith with the eventual intent of using the painting as a product of future meditations. As thousands of followers seem so inclined to make art of their religion's icons, it seems they've always found council in the use of their artistic talent as an insightful and idealistic station for meditation and prayer, A Brush With God is an informative guide to properly painting your own icon oriented art for such similar purposes, and is highly recommended for its outstandingly easy-to-use and exceptionally instructive nature.

I was overjoyed when I found this book, Teish has a style of writing that makes me think of Maya Angelou. She is warm and inviting without being condesending or fluffy. Praises for Priestess Teish!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ian Myles Slater on: Transitions and Rituals
This little book is a translation of a series of half a dozen lectures, with endnotes providing documentation. The history and bibliography are a little tricky. "Patterns of Initiation: The Haskell Lectures of 1956" were delivered at the University of Chicago by Mircea Eliade, a Romanian exile who had been recruited from the Sorbonne to help build up the University's Comparative Religion department. The lectures were composed in French, Eliade's main second language, and the English translation by Willard Trask was published in 1958, by Harvill Press, London, and Harper & Brothers, New York, as "Birth and Rebirth." (I have reviewed the Harper edition, used copies of which are sometimes available through Amazon: the full title, as given there, is "Birth and Rebirth: The Religious Meanings of Initiation in Human Culture," in The Library of Religion and Culture series.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Contemplative, Spiritual Thoughts
The first thing that struck me when receiving this book in the mail was its small pocket/travel size. The physical size should not fool the reader, however.Like the book itself, the pithy sentences and chapters carry weighty clout within the interior of thought.
5-0 out of 5 stars Never Alone
Written in a monastery tool shed, this enduringly popular book is a stream-of-consciousness series of meditations on the value and meaning of solitude. According to Merton, true solitude is not solipsistic, but rather a search for the mercy of God and a foundation for genuine (that is, loving and truthful) relationships.

The Book of Light: Ascension and the Divine World Order contains a detailed explanation of the ascension. While explaining these topics, the author also touches upon the multi-dimensional nature of the universe, the meaning of life, concurrent lives, and creation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book does a good job introducing alchemy and it's purpose in every day life.It contains an interesting section on the spiritual history and destiny of the United States of America and includes a fairly easy to do meditation called "The Ritual of the Cloud."Not a book that you can sit down and read in two hours---but definitely worth getting if alchemy is something that interests you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not by the Master
I concur with Msrs. Ali and Tseng (among other reviewers) in that this book was not discharged by beloved Master Saint Germain, and really doesn't do any honor to the name of the Master. In fact, I doubt that ANY of the books marketed by Summit Lighthouse (with the exception, perhaps, of Summit's first publications) was discharged by ANY Ascended Being.
1-0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
This book is not for me, but I can't justify saying that it's not for everyone. I will conclude, however, that only hardcore Christians will be able to practice this system and not feel foolish due to the outdated and ridiculous philosophies. The majority of this book deals with handing your life over to God, letting God take over your Self and allowing his divine Will to operate through you.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you read this review then consider that you might be looking for this book...
Every person who reviews this book as a "True Christian" is mildly to seriously offended.I have been raised a Catholic and I adore this book.Any religion that tries to be the only way to Heaven, the only source of knowledge, the only one who can write a book is afraid of something. The ideas that are presented in this book are beautiful and the very thing I never found in the religion where I had placed my belief. The problem here is that everyone who dislikes this book or any other spiritual or religious text besides the one they believe in, has to hurt someone else in order to be right. My own mother, when presented with my thoughts and questions, can become angry and defensive. I think that anything that is true must not need to sell itself that hard. This book is for every person of every faith or no faith at all.It is simply for the person who is seeking to find out who they are.I felt like I came home when I realized that not another person who has walked this earth was any closer to god then I am...they just remembered more of who they were.So I pick this book because it says something that I already know about myself and just didn't remember.I can't read it without crying because there is nothing like knowing, even for a moment that you have stepped out of the shadow and back into the light. So for all you "True Christians" this is not the party line. This is the story that the un-true christians are looking for.

2-0 out of 5 stars Communion with God

5-0 out of 5 stars Good overview, broad coverage, historical perspective
In the preface to this book, the author states that, "This book is intended as a short introduction to the tradition of Christian mysticism over the last two thousand years. It is not aimed at theologians or other specialists but at those who have little or no knowledge of the subject matter and who wish to dip their toes into the vast ocean of mysticism."Further, "The approach I have taken is a historical one."James Harpur delivers on both of these objectives. In the introduction, he discusses the terms mystic/mysticism and contemplative/contemplation.His coverage is broad:He starts with New Testament Times and ends with The Modern Age, and he addresses 49 mystics (from Jesus Chris to Thomas Merton; Therese de Lisieux is a notable exclusion). The information he presents provides a good overview of each mystic's approach to Christian spirituality. In addition, he describes the historical times and context in which they lived (providing a history, albeit a very short one, of Christianity). In the epilogue, the author briefly addresses the future of both Christianity and mysticism, as well as some of the more recent Christian spiritual movements, e.g., Taize. This book is a great introduction to this subject and a good reference source. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but Strife of the Spirit is better
I read The Strife of the Spirit - the first half of it was an amazing book - about the meaning of life, of struggle, and presented the thesis that "inner peace" is a lie - an escape from life and its duties. (The second half was much more Hasidic in outlook and I found it less appealing.)
5-0 out of 5 stars One of those books that you dont' re-sell
Well, the header says it all--I would keep this book for my children; it speaks in almost prophetic language. This is the first book that I read written by R A.Steinsaltz and I'm reading other books of his. He somehow manages to talk about things ever so important in an easy tongue, which doesn't make you feel exhausted after two-three pages of reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars For ALL Seekers: Distilled Essence of Jewish Belief
Whether one is Jewish or not, this book clearly and succinctly provides important knowledge about esoteric Jewish beliefs for those who are seeking answers to spiritual questions. The discourse on "Worlds" includes abstract but not difficult to follow ideas of how energy, thoughts, actions and feelings affect other dimensions ("worlds"). The description of the domain of angels and their interaction in the human realm is very lucid and enlightening. The mysteries of the Kabbalah are touched upon in terms of how the ten Sefirot connect to organic Reality. The mystery of life is revealed as events in our world affect the nature and quality of relations, in terms of light and power in other worlds. The importance of the study and practice of mitzvot can not be over emphasized. It is words and deeds that help illuminate our soul and bring about blessings which make the world a better place. Through human will, the inersection of all worlds occurs, because the human being has the power to change the fixed order of things. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reveals to Christian readers how it is possible that God has been speaking to them
Collaboratively written by Chuck D. Pierce (President of Glory of Zion International Ministries and vice president of Global Harvest Ministries) and his co-author Rebecca Wagner Sytsema, When God Speaks: How To Interpret Dreams, Visions, Signs And Wonders reveals to Christian readers how it is possible that God has been speaking to them, but they failed to perceive that divine communication for what it was. God's manifold channels of communication can, and often do, include an impression upon the spirit or through a passage of scripture, or in a prophetic dream. Very strongly recommended and thoughtful reading, When God Speaks explains and illustrates how to receive God's word, how to interpret dreams and visions, and in acting on what has been discerned, ultimately fulfill Gods requirements of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book Is What It Says It Is . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars highly practical
I believe this book's greatest strenght is its practicality. The Bible gives us wide latitude in the logistics and style of doing ministry and for good reason. Out of that broad latitude flows creativity to meet the needs of a changing culture. The truth does not change, but we must be willing to look at new ideas for communicating that age-old truth. And these two pastors do a great job sharing some proven ideas of what has worked well in their respective churches. Too often the church is so resitant to change that by the time it does change its strategies, it is already a half a century behind. Young and Stanley challenge us to do a better job at staying at the cutting edge of cultural needs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could help - but be careful
Andy Stanley and Ed Young both pastor mega-churches, so their advice should certainly be considered. I also believe that their hearts are right and I applaud their desire to see people come to Christ and be grounded in the church. That being said, their is a subtle danger laced throughout the book and it is the false assumption that whatever works is good. The ends justify most means. One cannot escape the pragmatism in this book. Pragmatism is fine if decisions are made within the proper biblical framework, but in this case that isn't always the case. In the end, this book fosters a consumer mentality towards the church that results in lots of breadth but not as much depth. There are good practical suggestions, but not much theology, which is sorely needed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Arden has a remarkable gift for presenting native wisdom
Dealing with the mysteries of communities other than our own is a delicate matter. Beyond the more obvious impediments to clear understanding such as language, there lies a world of hidden signs and meanings that only revealthemselves slowly, and only then to the sure-footed. Castaneda has writtenabout such experiences, and others have tried with varying degrees ofsuccess. Harvey Arden has, all in all, written a remarkable book about theAustralian aborigine and his attempt to find a means of expression afterthe drab interlude of cultural effacement that followed colonisation.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More Peices to the puzzle, but...
I enjoyed reading this book, as it is a very informative and easy book to read. There is a lot to learn when it comes to Egyptian Deities and this book gives some nice insights. A very good breakdown when it comes to Nut, Geb and Shu and their function in creation. Dr. Muata Ashby also gives a very good explanation of the Obelisk and Ankh and their esoteric sexual meanings. I was glad to see that this book included some sexual sublimation exercises although brief and simplistic. Still, this may be a good thing. What I also found most beautiful were the insights and connections to Christian esotericism.
