4-0 out of 5 stars Living Religions w/CD (6th Edition)
I found Living Religions to be very interesting and informative. Before reading this book, I knew very litte about religions other than my own. After reading this text, I discovered the beauty in each religion presented and was able to erase the stereotypes and stigmas that I once held.I recommend this book to anyone who has little understanding of world religions and would like to become educated or for someone who may just need a reminder. It is an easy read, with the exception of some of the vocabulary associated with the different religions.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is an AWESOME resource!
I have never read a religious studies book so focued and well researched.Mary Pat Fisher truly shows she knows what she it writing about. This book not only provides thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter, but it is also full of wonderful illustrations!A picture really is worth a thousand words.I couldn't be happier with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Channelings
This book is typical of the many channelings that are coming at us fast and furious and especially with the advent of the internet. This is great but requires a small caution that is given in that much revered graven image called the King James Bible. (or any other bible) We are to let the tares grow along side the wheat until a complete understanding comes to us. Any channeling that comes thru a human element will more than likely have some tares or personal opinions. Nothing wrong with that if you are able to read without judgment or a pre-set defense. In other words, don't try to make it say what you already know. You learn nothing that way. Just read, think about it and enjoy whatever comes up within you. All things are good if you love the Lord and according to this book you are Love. It shouldn't be too hard to love if you are love.

1-0 out of 5 stars delusionary author needs to change her meds
The author has an occasional interesting thought about things spiritual, but most readers will get quickly bored with the whole question and answer premis.I found it laughable that she believes that Jesus came to her so she could paint his picture over a number of months.Apparently she has never heard of digital cameras.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book! You will not regret it.
I'm only about halfway through and I'm already slowing down and reading only a couple of pages at a time. Why? I don't want it to end! I've read every single book out there about Jeshua it seems. There are so many good ones. But this one, even whether or not you believe the author really saw and spoke with Him, is special. I feel His words and they ring oh so true. While He talks about love and the sacred heart, He also goes on to explain why things are the way they are. He gets into the nitty gritty. It's not just a book about peace, love and happiness. There's some serious data in here as well. Like I said I'm only halfway through and already a couple of things I was confused about are cleared up. And I've experienced a whole lotta synchronicity around it too, which is always fun. Don't even think about buying this book, just DO it! It'll give you a peace and understanding that nothing else will in this particular way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So good, I gave it to my pastor!
My pastor is one of the wisest, smartest, and best-read people that I know. But I was pretty sure he had a copy of THE HOLY VOTE---and he didn't, so I gave him mine.
4-0 out of 5 stars WHAT DRIVES YOUR VOTE? A CONSIDERATION OF TODAY'S ISSUES OF FAITH!
Four VERY IMPORTANT Stars!! Written by Ray Suarez, senior correspondent for "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer", this fact-laden, opinion-driven book investigates the juxtaposition and intersections of religion and politics in America. Mr Suarez states he wants "to alternately infuriate and intrigue you". And so he does! In many ways, it's a series of topical essays which are energized by years of interviews and many quotes. In fact, it is as much a brief history lesson as a survey of religion and politics, revealing many finer details of our historical background and the personages that have populated our history. If you missed the importance of religion to politics or believe it doesn't exist, this book will drive home the point from Mr Suarez' point of view. Indeed, some religious blocks are claiming more and more that they are determining the outcomes of elections from the local level to the White House. This book is not a demographic-driven study of the voting habits of the religious in America with charts and graphs showing the past votes and future trends from sea to shining sea. Perhaps in this form it's ultimately more conversational and readable.
2-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete discussion of a key national issue.....
This book adopts a common modern perspective for its analysis: belief frameworks with a supernatural component are ultimately inappropriate in the public square.Only a belief framework without any supernatural component is acceptable (i.e., secularism).

5-0 out of 5 stars a new perspective
This book was enlightening.I was dealing with all those nagging questions the author addressed in this book. After reading, I have a new perspective in my quest for the truth.Using deductive reasoning is addressed in exploring creation, life after death, etc.Gave me substance and confidence in the foundation of my beliefs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A welcome antidote to the rising tide of ignorance and superstition
David Mills' "Atheist Universe" is a lucid presentation of the rationalist viewpoint on the nature of our world and how it can be explained without resorting to mysticism and unprovable assertions about a Supreme Being. In it, Mills carefully lays out the reasons why we needn't assume the existence of a God (or gods) to understand natural phenomena, and demolishes numerous assertions and teachings of religious and spiritualist propagandists.
3-0 out of 5 stars Basic scientific evidence, but a bit uneven
It's actually extremely amazing that a book like this would be written in the 21 stcentury. The scientific credibility of the Bible and religious interpretations of the natural world have been completely discredited since the middle of the 19th century and well before that for many. It hardly seems necessary to rehash and debunk Christian beliefs concerning the age of the universe, planetary motion, evolution, the evidence of miracles, intelligent design, etc. For those who need these arguments to prop up newly found doubt, here they are.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
This is simply the best book I've read regarding atheism in the past twenty years. As a former evangelist and seminary graduate, I found this book to be a simple, yet profound, clarification and summarization of the issues that need to be honestly addressed by all believers and truth-seekers today. We've now had the benefit of centuries of scientific data, and it's time that we deal with those data forthrightly and avoid the mistakes of our forefathers. For them it may have been more permissible to misunderstand the science, but for us today it can only be a brazen and embarrassingly oafish recalcitrance that would cause us to ignore the facts at hand.David exposes the truth and addresses the data in a manner in which there can be no misunderstanding, or refutation, of what to the honest truth-seeker has to be obvious, and no longer controversial. The facts are in, and David pulls all the salient data together in a brilliantly written exposition. There are other books that are more technical, but none that are more lucid, succinct, contemporary, and saturated with the intellectual response that we must provide to the facts. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Jesus Loves You, Muhammad Doesn't. End of Argument!
When I first learned about their book "unveiling Islam", it surprised me, not because it was promoted as a methodological and balanced attempt to compare the Islam and Christianity from a textual perspective, but because it was done by authors who described themselves as Ex-Muslims.I expected evidence based insider comparison on the superiority of the Christian faith to its Muslim counterpart. It took me twenty pages to learn the book was nothing but another sensational attempt to score a timely hit in church propaganda.

Coming from a Fundamental Baptist background, I was extremely skeptical about this book and the ideas in it.I must admit though when I reasoned with my spirit and not my mind, I could truly understand the Biblical relevance of healing and miracles for today! After applying the principles taught in this book, my husband's legs have grown to be even, his spine was straightened, my arms are now the same length, my spine has straightened, and my husband has administered healing to others as well.Excellent, excellent book.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good reading
This is a book by a respected astronomer on his view of the creation. He believes there is "purpose and intention" behind this creation. And he seeks God's hand, albeit in a subtle way, behind all those serrendipitious phenomena which encourage people to invoke an anthropocentric worldview. Well majority of the scientists will not agree with his view. But this book provides glimpses of the 'other view'. Although not very penetrating thoughts, this book summarizes some thoughts of the author's apologetics in a very concise way. One may want to read this book to learn what may be a believing scientist's view of nature.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Broad-Based, Integrated Approach to "Veritas"
Owen Gingerich is Professor Emeritus of Astronomy and of the History of Science at Harvard's Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. In this concise and readable work, he advocates a broad framework for integrating science and religion -- one that does not artificially mandate a secular explanation for every facet of the universe.

4-0 out of 5 stars Use for High School Age
This is a well written and informative book. I used this book to teach middle school students (grade 6-8) in a sunday school class this summer. I woud recomend using the Kids edition for that age because middle school students generally do not have enough knowledge of biology to understand this edition. I was glad that I had spent 2 years as a Biology major in College so that I could bring it down to the students level. For Others doing youth ministry please use the kids edition to teach middle school and lower and this edition for high school students. I found that using this along with the Adult book allowed me to better explain the book to my students.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
If you are familiar with the work of Strobel, this book will continue to impress you.If you are not however, and would like to know where the author is coming from, I encourage you to read his previous works, "The Case for Christ" and "The Case for Faith" so that you might better understand Strobel.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic Read
This is hands down the most comprehensive, complete and gripping book I have ever read covering the topics of how Christianity/Religion constantly seem at war with Science, and how if you actually spend some time doing some research and analysis, you'll find that the two are very compatible. Strobel eloquently and articulately goes into great details, but without "too much" detail. Highly recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Right on Target!
We're told to love other people as we love ourselves in the first part of this book. This teaching of Jesus Christ, known as the Golden Rule is the starting point of human relations building in this book's discussion on the laws of life. Another principle Jesus taught is found near the conclusion, i.e., that of giving. Templeton writes "Giving makes you a magnet for success" (p. 299).5-0 out of 5 stars Do you need down to earth inspiration?

5-0 out of 5 stars Amen...
I read Michelle's book and I agree with about 95% of what she's written here...Her dark inferences with Christian Nationalism and Totalitarianism will get quite a rise in some quarters (especially those who believe they are doing God's work). She neglects any coverage though of Zionist groups, who work in combination with Christian Nationalists as a mean to solidify US support for Israel. After some $100 billion US dollars poured into the coffers of the Israeli government, you would think we would have bought enough good will where they might want to negotiate a peaceful solution. But no, much of it has gone to arms dealers... to build weapons, like cluster bombs that leave their eternal death in Southern Lebanon. What a shame.... praise God and pass the bullets!

3-0 out of 5 stars Book Club? Try this one!
I seldom give 3 stars. I'm a 1 star or 5 star kind of guy. But, though I share most of Ms. Goldberg's anxiety about the current political climate in America and see no reason to regard any form of Christianity as a positive moral force in the 21st Century, I am uncomfortable with the quick-frame journalistic style of this book, and I strongly doubt that any Christian, however moderate, would find the arguments persuasive. Ms. Goldberg's anger becomes more palpable toward the end of the book, at which point I confess I find her more winningly honest. Perhaps the best use this book could be put to would be as a "book club" choice for social circles in which conservatives and progressives mingle on friendly terms (if there are any such.) The discussion would be lively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fair Warning
Time to open our eyes. The Christian Right and it's friends in high places (often the same people) are conspiring to upset the delicate balance of church and state the founding fathers so wisely set up.The more hardcore of the bunch want nothing less than a Christian theocracy. There's the Islamic Republic of Iran. How well is that working out?Do we want a Christian Republic of America?

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what is depicted with the cover view
In searching for this title I found there were 60+ versions out there so I had to rely on both editor and cover pictorials to determine the one I was seeking (which was modern English, full page pictorials, and covering both Christian's and Christiana's journeys).Since I had the one I wanted in hand, I put a lot of faith in the cover visual. What I got was as version without full page pictures, small print and in the older dialect. From what other pilgrims have told me, the modern English version is essential in understanding this work. I donated it to the local library in hopes it will still do good.

5-0 out of 5 stars We are born brainwashed
Anyone who is a serious follower of Jesus Christ and understands what he is saved from (the wrath of God) will find this book to be an immense treasure house of comfort and fatherly instruction. Those who think that this book is a tool for brain washing have it all backwards. The brainwashing occurs when we are conceived into this world in our sin and rebellion against our Holy Creator, by our very nature. Born into a vacuum, we'd all rebel. The gospel is the news that Jesus Christ endured God's wrath in our place and is ever making us more like himself. We are no longer in the bondage that we were born into. Praise be to God!This book is a wonderfully wise parable of a Christian's experience in this world.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Sasquatch Book Out There
Over the past couple of years, I've read quite a few books on Sasquatch.Of the newer books, "Raincoast Sasquatch" by J.R. Alley was easily the best...until now.I really don't know anything about Alley and I can't say anything about his motivations, but as I read the many other recent books I kept getting this feeling that "Bigfoot is Big business" to quote Jerry Coleman.Indeed it seems that some current "researchers" compile a list of sightings and then proceed to make incredible postulations about all aspects pertinent to Sasquatch and unfortunatley, some even make sweeping generalizations about known animal behavior which are in fact completely untrue.Up until now, there appeared to be a lack of true scientific investigation on behalf of the research community and in many of the recent books there was a general request from these guys for academia to investigate the Sasquatch phenomenon.Well, thanks to Jeff and the other researchers involved, we have a good scientific book to read and enjoy. This book is by far the best of the rest. It's not chock full of sightings, it's not hinging all bets on "Patty", and it's not pursuing the UFO-Bigfoot theory.Thank God!What you do get is good material from footprint examinations by a specialist in bipedal biomechanics, dermatoglyphics, vocalization analysis, some "Patty" discussion, and some statistical analysis. The latter which I find a little problematic.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science
To list everything that is good about this book would require a recitation of virtually everything in it. This is a great book for anyone curious about, or skeptical of, the sasquatch/bigfoot mystery. It provides a clear, rational, science-based examination of the evidence that stands head and shoulders above many of the other books on the subject, and Jeff Meldrum avoids the proselytizing--both pro and con--that characterizes the work of too many other authors in this field. While it is a companion piece to the DVD of the same name, it goes far deeper in its examination of the mystery than time allowed in the show. Bravo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Science at it's best!
I have a collection of over 200 books related to bigfoot.Dr. Meldrum's "Sasquatch:Legend Meets Science" is the most significant book on the subject I have ever read. Finally putting all we know into one cohesive text, Dr. Meldrum addresses the evidence, hoaxes, theories, concepts, and "myths" related to bigfoot in a professional and scientific manner. Significant in the book is the discussion of the Skookum Cast, Patterson/Gimlin film, footprint evidence, and dermatoglyphics.I highly recommend this book as it will be quoted by the bigfoot community for years to come!

If author Mary Roach was a college professor, she'd have a zero drop-out rate. That's because when Roach tackles a subject--like the posthumous human body in her previous bestseller, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spook Is Superb Science
If Woody Allen were to write a science book, this would be it.Mary Roach utilizes her enormous wit to make her sometimes highly technical investigations fascinating and fun.She admits to being a skeptic, but suspends disbelief as she investigates the supernatural world. She is enormously fair. She readily admits that the skeptics may be right "but they are no fun to go to the graveyard with."So she maintains that spirit of wonder as she exacts the high standard of proof that science demands. If you are looking for validation that ghosts, without a doubt, are watching you sleep, she will not provide that certainty. But she will tell you about the sometimes ingenius ways that spiritualists and paranormal specialists are going about trying to prove it.So her book is somewhat like Lewis Thomas' NOTES OF A BIOLOGY WATCHER in that you get a layman's education on how the soul has been searched for.You get Woody Allen's wit and Carl Sagan's concern for unbiased evidence as you travel through this fascinating culture of afterlife specialists who just may, in the end, be privy to dimensions the rest of us cannot see.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring - Avoid this Book!
I love ghost stories and stories of the 'beyond' and all that those categories entail. That said, I hate this book.Mary Roach has the authorial voice of a 12 year old.I read the first chapter thinking, 'wow, this book might as well have been edited by a middle school yearbook writer.'There are a plethora of books on the market dealing with this subject matter.Pick any of them.Leave Mary Roach on the bookshelf.

Author Simon Weisenthal recalls his demoralizing life in a concentration camp and his envy of the dead Germans who have sunflowers marking their graves. At the time he assumed his grave would be a mass one, unmarked and forgotten. Then, one day, a dy
