I think the material written about submission and obedience is not okay.
5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful
John Bevere has done it again! This book is a must read. These negative reviews come from people who have been hurt by authority and probably need to read John's other book Bait of Satan "Overcoming Offense". John uses tons of scriptures to validate his insight, but dont take my word for it check out the book and read it with an open mind.

1-0 out of 5 stars diagnosis is correct.prescription is wrong.
Tons of scriptures wrongly applied is a ton of error.Divide the word of God correctly and life will come.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and dishonest.
I expected to agree with this book. The idea of the media and educational establishment deliberately corrupting America is entirely plausible to me, so I was looking forward to hearing Kupelian's case.
5-0 out of 5 stars On Target
Kupelian knows of what he speaks.Straight forward and factual this book covers many facets of the snow job we are being sold in America via the courts and the media.A great guide on how to answer objections to the liberal left's agenda.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Eye Opening. . .
As a parent of five children and very concerned about their future in America I found this book to be very thorough in what is happening to our culture.I found David Kupelian did an excellent job in untangling every topic.I found myself very stressed out after reading each chapter because it is so thought provoking and actually disturbing to have the truth presented in such a way.I would highly recommend this book. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A slim book in several ways
As sometimes happens when buying a book over the internet, the "packaging" (including the book's description) can be misleading. Case in point from the above book description: "Here is an extraordinary exploration of the wealth of the world's spiritual traditions combined with dialogue from the heart about the differences and similarities between their paths of wisdom."If there's an extraordinary exploration of the wealth of the world's spiritual traditions--it's not in this book. In fact, only about 25 pages of the book even remotely address this subject. And, to be more specific, the main similarities (entitled Points of Agreement) get a whopping 2 pages, while other similarities and differences are meagerly scattered throughout the rest of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Science and Spirituality Collide
This is a completely fascinating book. The Dalai Lama has completed an amazing discourse comparing and contrasting the worlds of scientific and spirtual thought. Ultimately the goal of this book is to make the scientific community and the "world" community think about their present and future roles in the development of science, its' ethics and the reduction of suffering.
5-0 out of 5 stars Truly, an Ocean of Wisdom
The title "Dalai Lama" is sometimes translated into English to mean something like, "ocean of wisdom."The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, proves--yet again--that he is deserving of this title.I was curious to see how a religious leader would handle the vast topic of science. While he humbly concedes that some of the complexities of scientific thought are beyond the scope of his knowledge, he delivers a book on science that is inspirational, possibly a literary first.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Wisdom of the Spirit is the Most Powerful
The Dalai Lama's wisdom in one book on the whole nature of science, ethics, are as potent as they are profound. A significant questioning from a compassionate heart on the role of higher spirit in the application of science. In a world dominated by out-of-control ego ... this book is a demonstration of why complete freedom from illusion is the only guarantee of inner peace. One of those books to read over and over again. We owe it to ourselves to conquer Mara (illusion). The world and its treasure of riches and power in the misguided context are not real. The Dalai Lama so beautifully explains why. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This 1986 classic is not only an excellent introduction to the Wiccan religion and earth-based religions in general, it's also a workbook that can take the serious student to the equivalent level of third-degree Gardnerian. Though Raymond Buckland was a student of the late great Gerald Gardner, this manual does not adhere to a specific branch or denomination of witchcraft, but rather seeks to teach the elements and philosophies common to all, whether Celtic, Saxon, Finnish, or what have you. Buckland is credited with bringing the "old religion" to the U.S., and covens and solitary witches practicing the craft in the U.S. today have him to thank for getting it out of the closet. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Whichcraft Library "Must Have"
While hardly the "be-all, end-all" of Witchcraft information, Buckland's compiled research is an extremely useful tool, and a must for the foundation of anyone interested in the craft.
5-0 out of 5 stars an awsome book--- deserves more than 5 stars
i love this book ... my husband loves this book... everyone i know who is pagan loves this book... its great for beginers, but also has a lot of research that is usefull to anyone. Raymond Buckland is a great write. He is professional, open minded, and well informed.. He put alot of the history of magick into this book. Personally I really recomend it. If you don't have it buy it... I spent 20 bucks on it in a book store and it was worth it. So 5 dollars or even more is definately. I love his writing. This was one of the first books i read when i started and the information really stuck..

5-0 out of 5 stars a needed second way in the Emerging chuch
I have read a thousand or two pages of "how to do church" books. I pastor at a church of about 900, and so it's par for the course. Most of them bore me these days. This one I read in three sittings.
4-0 out of 5 stars A friendly kick in the pants
Mark Driscoll is a pastor who finds himself at the center of controversy in Christian and non-Christian circles. His most recent book Confessions is "the story of the birth and growth of Seattle's innovative Mars Hill Church, one of America's toughest mission fields. It is also the story of the growth of a pastor, the mistakes he's made along the way, and God's grace and work in spite of these mistakes."
5-0 out of 5 stars Humble, Raw Look at Mark's Ministry and Life
Mark Driskoll has helped fan a flame under me. I have yet to find another book that weaves together theology, practial lessons, and narrative the way Confessions does--there is no fluff here. I laughed with every inch of my gut on average of three times per page; it's just that gripping. I am lead church planter for a church in Fort Worth, and I have made this text required reading for my team. EVERYONE needs to read this if you care about the church in North America. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the previous reviewer beat me to it
It's a mistake to start reading this book because it's hard to do anything else. It's a banal statement to say one is impressed with a book for, say, it's style of writing or it's content or because he/she may say something with which you wholeheartedly agree, but I wholeheartedly agree with the Reverend White's words and I confess, it has put fear in my heart. His incredible objectivity--and it cannot have been easy--make it clear that there's a lot of vigilance one is going to need in the days ahead on any number of issues. It was especially helpful to me since I am not a protestant, to know the difference between evangelicalism and fundamentalism. I have a divinity school degree from Berkeley but cannot remember any time the meaning of these two words/concept became an issue.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Insider Takes Us Deeper Into the Danger of the Christian Right-wing
Mel White's brand new book, Religion Gone Bad is his latest intimate analysis of the intentions of the extreme religious right-wing of Christianity that's been setting the national agenda for over a decade.
5-0 out of 5 stars Reverend White is a pioneer for telling the truth
This is a fascinating book. The Reverend gives an honest portrayal of religious fundamentalism in America. He details how these fanatics preach their hate towards decent and hardworking homosexual people and try to use the pulpit to preach politics. Anyone that preaches bigotry in the name of religion should read "Religion Gone Bad" with an open mind and open heart. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a landmark book
Regardless of your politics or religion, this book is thought provoking. If you are a "ditto head" you probably will not like that it will challenge your paradigm and push your buttons, but it is a challenge you should take on as should every other person concerned about greed, wealth accumulation, and the perversion of the teachings of Jesus. It even pushed some of my buttons but I needed to have my horizons expanded. I believe that a copy should be required reading for every religious and political figure in our world.
2-0 out of 5 stars Whose Politics is This Really About???
Is this about "The Politics of Jesus" or about Obery M. Hendricks, Jr.'s politics wrapped around the message of Jesus?
4-0 out of 5 stars Taking Jesus Back
The scholarly work in this book is excellent. The author has laid out the political and social background of biblical stories and Gospels, helping the reader to understand the true teachings of Jesus.

Editorial Review

About 40 years ago popular opinion assumed that religion would become a weaker force and people would certainly become less zealous as the world became more modern and morals more relaxed. But the opposite has proven true, according to theologian and author Karen Armstrong (Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Overly complicated, but interesting
Many new words, few remembered.
1-0 out of 5 stars The Battle for Good History : Why Armstrong fails as acredible historian
"Battle For God"by Karen Armstrong
5-0 out of 5 stars Erudite and masterful
Armstrong rates as one of the best, if not the best of the religious writers --- and she well deserves accolades. This book provides a rationale not only for the fundamentalist movements of the three major religions, but explains why, in other frameworks, one can never separate the conscious and unconscious in any permanent way.Her explanation of logos and mythos draws immediate parallels to the real and unreal, the seen and the unseen, the rational and the subconscious, the physical and metaphysical. Western technology induces eastern spirituality much the way the visible requires an analysis of the forces behind the visible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Primer for Christians, Other Faiths or Even No Faith
This is a primer on the most gracious acts we can participate in:giving and forgiving. It is for Christians as well as those of other faiths or even no faith. The author sets out to explain first who is God and explains the difference between God's reality and his image. He then "...examines how to conceive of and live out two basic human practices, giving and forgiving."
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful lessons from a man who's walked the walk
In this practical and profound book, Volf gets down to the nitty-gritty of what it means for us as Christians to forgive those who have wronged us. Simply put as he states in his book, "We forgive because God forgives. We forgive as God forgives. We forgive by echoing God's forgiveness." While this is one of those deceptively simple lessons that takes me a minute to learn but a lifetime to master, Volf has given his fellow Christian brothers and sisters some tools to get us started on this journey toward reconciliation. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars It Fills In the Blanks
For a person wanting to understand the continuous nature of the Bible, and to see how the events of the world unfolded and intersected the biblical events, this is an excellent source. The illustrated timelines and the incapsulated history lessons help bring the Bible to life. The book is one continuous page (front and back) and you will find yourself unfolding it on the kitchen table and studying it beyond the immediate question that caused you to open it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and visual
This is not a book so much as it is a fold-out timeline. It is rather impressive in many respects, both its size and the production quality, which is very high (fold-out books need to have stronger material to stand up to the wear-and-tear of time). This can be a useful guide for children who need to have a sense of history at the broad strokes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Artistic and Informative
The time-chart is an impressive collection of works by different illustrators and seems to have been coordinated by a single author. The date coordination appears to match the instances in the bible and fills in other areas where the bible is silent with informed estimates of the approximate date(s).
