5-0 out of 5 stars Ties it all together very nicely
I read Home with God without the benefit of having read Mr. Walsch's previous works and I must say that I recommend it without question.Since I read Home with God I have purchased ALL of Mr. Walsch's previous work and I have enjoyed them all tremendously.Home with God is so special because we all want to know what is beyond our current knowing.I have always felt that my idea of what God would do and be was quite different from what mainstream religions preach.I never could understand how God could hate anything he/she created. Mr. Walsch's God is the God I have always believed in and had faith in and experience daily in my conversations with God.I recommend you take the book slowly and allow it to become a part of you.We are all one people (children of God) and what hurts one of us hurts us all.Reminds me of the phrase "United we stand, divided we fall."Read this book with an open heart and allow yourself to be healed and comforted and reconnected to God like never before. It will positively change your life.
2-0 out of 5 stars Conversations with God?
Neale Walsh has written several New Age style books on his conversations with God, all of them bestsellers and great in popularity. However, I always get the feeling on reading his works his God is a very wishy-washy one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect...for those with an open mind.
I loved this book as much as I did all the others in the "Conversations with God" series. Although it can be read and understood on its own, its better to read all the others first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Using Parker Palmer's The Courage to Teach
I was introduced to Palmer's book by a participant in a series of workshps I give on Teaching, Learning, and Technology. This participant said that my coverage of pedagogic and technologic issues would be augmented by dealing with the personal factors a teacher brings to a course. Having read Palmer sveral times as I offer these workshops, I can say that it is probably the single most important text I have found in my extensive review of literature on teaching and learning. This opinion is supported by the comments of people in my workshops, who universally agree that reading it has changed their approach to teaching in a positive way. I cannot recomment it more highly.

2-0 out of 5 stars Gets better as it goes....?
I'll preface this by saying that I'm a university teacher who cares deeply about teaching, which I guess must be why this book was recommended to me in the first place. The early chapters I found simply intolerable, heavily reliant on unexamined truistic claptrap about self-knowledge, the soul, etc, etc. The whole book is overwritten and florid, like the inside of a greetings card. It is hard to be genuinely profound in that sort of prose, and I wished that Parker, who is clearly a wonderful and thoughtful teacher, had had the courage to write in something approximating the language of normal speech.
5-0 out of 5 stars Takes Courage to Read It!
A moving, poetic, and inspiring work on the art, profession, and calling of teaching. "I am a teacher at heart, and there are moments in the classroom when I can hardly hold the joy" (p. 1). Palmer builds a theoretical framework of teaching based on integrity, authenticity, humility, community, hope, and love. Offers great hope to those temporarily mired in the minutia of teaching, as well as a frighteningly stark contrast for those not truly called to teach. Leaves little room for lukewarmness or doubt. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Living Your Strengths: Discover Your God-Given Talents and Inspire Your Community
The transaction went perfectly smooth!

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Stars for Potential
We have just begun to use this text and accompanying workbook and video at our church for a seven-week study to determine our God given talents and calling. Apparently this material is also used in business for the same purpose. The initial process is to go online and take a strength finder assessment (approx. 30-40) minutes. This assessment then provides the user with a ranking of their top five strengths. Note: Each book has a unique code that can be used only once to take the assessment. The results from that assessment is then the basis for the remainder of the study, e.g., six weeks in the workbook. I have not read through the entire book. Most of the content is concerned with describing the thirty-four "themes" (e.g., strenghts). I would not recommend purchasing the book without the accompanying "Journey" workbook - and I would think that doing this on your own (with the book and workbook) would be valuable but not as vaulable as doing it in a small group.

5-0 out of 5 stars great stuff
I appreciated the way this book helps staff find the focus of their strengths. It's a great way to help people know what others already know about them. I highly recommend this for a staff retreat.

2-0 out of 5 stars From the Same Minds That Brought You Joel Osteen
I purchased Eldredge's "Wild at Heart", and I didn't think it was scripturally sound. I was given "Waking the Dead" as a present, so I tried to read it as well. I finally gave it up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This book by John Eldredge is wonderful. It was recommended to me and now I'm recommending it to others. The four streams he touches on one doesn't often come across, and the examples he gives one can relate to.

4-0 out of 5 stars Waking the Dead that are Wild at Heart
I like this book much better than Wild at Heart, though I tought students from it for about half a year. The basic thing I've taken away from the books is that it teaches us to be open about our futures and grab some nostalga along the way. Waking the Dead like Wild at Heart focus on what most conservatives will call OPEN THEOLOGY. This approach to God creates a sort of open question as to the future and whether we have a hand in it. John frequently sets up statements that lead conservatives to view them as redefining God, His intentions and what scripture says.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wisdom and Warmth
As I read Jason Shulman's seed passages and reflections I felt the warmth of a very wise and caring father whose great joy it is to help his children understand their suffering and point them to a path of freedom.
5-0 out of 5 stars Who knew?
Who knew that God seeks me?Who knew that humanity is Divine? This book makes me want to be human because it illuminates humanity and begs me to be exactly who I am, what I am, and where I am.It doesn't tell me how to rise above it.It's truly an instruction manual for loving myself, and in that process, I receive God.

5-0 out of 5 stars A New Roadmap to the Divine
If God is - Always-Present-Everywhere - and is most desirious of being Found, then our Relationship with this Being is unalterably different from the way that most of us approach it.This is a book that is profound in its simplicity, its depth and its wisdom. It is a human roadmap to that which is paradoxically both BEYOND US and yet at the same time may quite possibly represent our ultimate Identity. In my opinion, it is must reading for anyone whose Spirit and Consciousness is so engaged. ... Read more

Our Sunday School class is finishing The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg. It has been a big hit.(We also studied his book If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat a couple years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. People still refer to its themes.)

Editorial Review

We know the shadow by many names: alter ego, lower self, the dark twin, repressed self, id. Carl Jung once said that the shadow "is the person you wouldrather not be." But even if you choose to hide your dark side, it will stillcast a shadow, according to author Debbie Ford. Rather than reject the seeminglyundesirable parts of ourselves, Ford offers advice on how to confront ourshadows. Only by owning every aspect of yourself can you achieve harmony and"let your own light shine," she explains. "The purpose of doing shadow work, isto become whole. To end our suffering. To stop hiding ourselves from ourselves.Once we do this we can stop hiding ourselves from the rest of the world."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant brilliant book!
I thought I was happy, I thought I was mature. I was looking for another challenge in life, so I picked up this book to see if there was anything useful. Whoa! This book made me realize that I have a whole other side to myself that I was not aware of. It made me understand what really being whole as a person is all about. I cannot say enough about this book! Thanks to this book, I feel I can really see the positive and negative sides of myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars The foundation for emotional healing
This book outlines how to go from trying to change the parts of yourself that you don't like to seeing the wisdom that those parts bring to your life. In my opinion this work brings you back to emotional wholeness and helps you live a life that you are inspired by, what could be more important than that?

5-0 out of 5 stars Free Yourself From Judgement
Shadow work is important work. This book is written in simple language, and is a great introduction to the subject. What do you have to lose - it's insightful, can be read in an afternoon, and it just might deepen your understanding of yourself and others.I recommend this book highly, especially to people who care about personal development. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Worst interpretation ever
I read this book years ago.My first impression was, "this seems like a lot to pull from such a small passage."I really felt that there was something wrong with it. A few months later, I read a textbook on Biblical Interpretation, and suddenly I could articulate what bothered me so much about this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars There needs to be a Zero star rating for books like this
I wonder what Bruce Wilkinson was thinking when he wrote this book. There is no way a top-notch theologian could squeeze 96 pages out of one verse and keep it focused solely on Scripture. Well, Wilkinson wrote that much, but he threw in so many examples from life that it totally took away the meaning of the verse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recovery from G_d's point of view
This copy of G_d's Word has so many helps in it for those in a recovery group or attempting recovery on their own.By using the indexes in the back of this Bible, the reader can zero-in on the facets of each of the Twelve Steps and find an appropriate Scriptural principle. Each Step is illustrated by several passages in the Bible, along with commentary by Dr. Stoop. This is not a study Bible, in the customary sense, but a Bible that will cause the recoverer to study what G_d wants to do in her/his recovery. The New Living Translation is easy to read, but I usually read a word-for-word translation along with it (NASB, NKJV, ESV), so as to not miss a thought!

I have been using Yoga Nidra in my teaching work for years and find this CD to be a very useful addition, informationally and practically as far as the meditation included on the CD is concerned.

A friend recommended this CD. I do not know the author, either. I have used it daily for the past month and love it. I like the fact that there is only a voice directing me through the meditation, it helps to focus. If I use it a night, I fall asleep immediately and sleep without interruption until morning (unless my cat wants to be let out early). Alternatively, I use it in the late afternoon to relax from the stress of the day, before beginning evening chores. I am a yoga practitioner and have also felt its benefits in my asana practice. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars supernatural indeed!
Since I'm a conventional "sceptic" of the pro-establishment variety, reading and reviewing this book was a real challenge. Graham Hancock is a controversial "alternativist" writer based in Britain, but constantly on the move all around the globe (and beyond?). Real Egyptologists, archeologists and historians usually regard him as pseudo-scientific. Indeed, his books are filled with all the stuff we sceptics just LOVE to hate: hyper-diffusionism, pyramidology, the face on Mars and (surprise) the Illuminati. "Supernatural" is Hancock's latest work. In some ways, it's even crazier than his earlier ones. But in some other ways, it's actually better. Yes, my Satanist friends will be surprised that I of all people said that...
5-0 out of 5 stars But where are the Unicorns?
The premise: Paleolithic man painted some scenes that had no basis in everyday experience. Therefore the models for the paintings came either from his imagination or from hallucinations percieved during trace states. The images depicted are archtypal altered state of consciousness visions that can be reproduced in minds of modern humans. Conclusion: Altered states of consciousness are a gateway to an alternative reality. The notion of "conciousness as receiver" is a fascinating way of interpreting hallucinations. Unfortunately, if one carries that concept to its obvious conclusion, it opens somenew interpretations of disturbed brain biochemistry, including schizophrenia. It's no wonder Hancock expresses an element of fear when he experiments with hallucinogens. Losing ones grip on "reality" is scarey for a reason. I wouldn't mind snapping a photo of the Loch Ness Monster, but keep it out of my swimming pool, please. Is Cryptozoology folklore, or an alternative Safariland? Are all hallucinations "real", or just those that introduce us to aliens and faries?
5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I've read this book twice, I love it. I think it throws more lite on Zecharia Sitchin's series, What I mean is that it could better explain what the Summarians were witnessing! "Forest of Visions" by Alex Polari De Alverga gives Graham more ammo on what he is talking about! I was hoping he would touch on "We,The Arcturians" by Dr. Norma J. Milanovich, It seems to fit right into what is going on in the book "Supernatural"! I've read all of Graham Hancocks books,The Man is not afraid of so called mainline science. "Underworld" was great and made sense! I would put this man right up there with authors like James Mitchner !

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotional Health--A Long Time ComingFor The Body of Christ
I'm reading Emotionally Healthy Spiritualityfor the second time. This book aligns with my spiritual belief, as well as my personal belief system, that emotional health should be--no, must be--integrated into the body of Christ so to promote true spiritual maturity. The book, as some people may believe, is not saying that we should live or be driven by our emotions, but to address them.Avoidance is a curse to emotional health.Given my past experience, I wholeheartedly believe that emotional health is one of the major keys to spiritual growth. However, Peter Scazzero is the first pastor that I know of who has articulated the issue--and well!
5-0 out of 5 stars This will change your life if you let it!
I have read few books that caused me to stop - make time to re-read, weep, journal and pray about the impact they were having on my life. This book is THAT powerful. It is deeply personal, both from the author's point of view and to where it takes you, the reader. The stories shared vividly illustrate Scazzero's points and I have never seen the relationship between emotional maturity and spirituality so deftly woven together. Great find!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another step toward Emotionally Healthy Spirituality
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality builds upon Pastor Scazzero's previous book - The Emotionally Healthy Church. Although there is some repetition in the beginning part of this book, Mr. Scazzero further develops the 6 principlesoutlined from his first book using more personal examples and revealing a fresh passion to effectively help the reader move from theory to a changed life. I agree with the author - what good is it to provide more information, or even preaching material (that is all some Pastors will see) if the result is not a changed/transformed life? Only time, and responses from those who read this work will tell if the author's intention was fulfilled.

3-0 out of 5 stars I found it rather slow-moving
I listened intently but was unable to get beyond the first two CD's -- perhaps I've already heard too much motivational, success-oriented, self-help kinds of things, but this one lacked enthusiam and anything new. Content was OK.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!Easy to follow, deep to ponder.
What do you want?Joy? Happiness? Money? Fulfilling relationships?I've tried many workshops, books, classes, even a social work degree, but none have made attaining the things I want in life as easy or fun as Abraham has in this set of CDs.As Jerry Hicks reads the information, you are guided through 22 fun and effective exercises or processes to use to attain all your desires. Fun and Effective! And I really enjoy his voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this!!
Was absolutely thrilled w/ the book, so got the CD for my husband, he found it as wonderful as I did, would recommend it to anyone who is searching for something more.... in there lives. ... Read more

Editorial Review

"Long before we do anything explicitly religious at all, we have to do something about the fire that burns within us," writes Ronald Rolheiser. "What we do with that fire, how we channel it, is our spirituality." From the opening chapter, where Rolheiser eloquently compares the burning spiritual fire of Mother Teresa, Janice Joplin, and Princess Diana, readers will be fully engaged in a unique and altogether fascinating discussion of Christian spirituality.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Astounding
Simply astounding work. If you're a baby-boomer Catholic, you know how it felt to be caught between the fifteenth and twentieth centuries when Vatican II changed the face of the Church.Ron Rolheiser was certainly one such person. The Holy Longing bridges the gap between the old and new Church. He describes in modern thought and language a wonderful way to be a spiritual "adult," and the role of community in the growth of that spirituality. I think the essence of the book come from these two quotes:
5-0 out of 5 stars Spirituality at its best
A must read for anyone on the journey for spiritual enlightenment.Ron helps one to define ones journey in simple terms that everyone can relate to.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Holy Longing: The Search for A Christian Spirituality
This is a challenging book . Rolheiser poses a lot of questions that most of us have but don't want to ask . He doesn't just supply pat answers , but makes us work to arrive at answers for ourselves . Every priest , pastor and minister should read this one . ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hit of the Holidays
All of our friends and relatives commented on how much they liked these cards and because each one is different, we enjoyed picking just the right card for the recipients. My husband insists on creative cards each year because he's in a creative field.I'm not sure how we're going to top these next year!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXQUISITE!
I purchased these cards at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and wish I had bought at least 3 sets.Every card I put into an envelope I want to keep for myself. Each card is truly a little gift!Additionally, I am glad they say Happy Holidays because I have many friends celebrating different things this time of year.I am going to buy additional sets just to have (or give as gifts) for next year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, thoughtfully-made cards!
I love these cards and am purchasing a second set since the first set was so popular and wonderful to give away!A previous reviewer had given it only 1 star because they said the cards don't say "Merry Christmas" and has nothing about Christmas inside. The latter is not true.If anything, there is a slight Christian slanton a couple of the cards: one with baby Jesus, one with a lovely pop-up Bethlehem and star, and one stained-glass window one depicting the Virgin Mary and baby (and maybe a few more I can't think of right now).A large majority of the cards can be given away to anyone of any religion celebrating the holiday season.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration to examine your own belief system
When I first received my copy of "This I Believe," I had no idea that it was actually from a popular 1950s radio show of the same name.Originally, "This I Believe" was hosted by Edward R. Murrow. It was aired throughout the United States and became so popular that two volumes of the essays were published and hit the Top-10 Bestseller's list for three years.
5-0 out of 5 stars maybe exactly what you need right now
I've been working too much lately, getting into my car at night with my head still swimming about all the things that are going on at the office. I try not to get like this, but sometimes, especially at this time of year, it's hard not to. Someone sent me a copy of an interesting audiobook though and I wanted to share a bit about it with you. Listening to it in 15 minute snippets on the way to and from work these past few weeks has turned me around.
5-0 out of 5 stars This gets 88 Stars - This I believe!
From Barbie to Pizza Dudes, Helen Keller to Colin Powell; one for each extraordinary essay in it.FYI, I had the most amazing introduction to this book by attending a review in Chicago, where its origins were recounted in person by the editors (as detailed by the "armchair" reviewer below). To my delight, Studs Terkel presented his thoughts (yes, THE Studs Terkel...can you believe it?..he wrote the foreword) and two of the essayists (Eboo Patel & John Fountain) read their stories to us. It was a cold evening, but I left with a warm heart and two signed copies, and will be buying many more to share with all my good friends who remind me so much of the remarkable people in this book, and for myself who is struggling to become one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Living a Joyless Christian Life?
This book revolutionized the way I approach God and seek to serve Him. The author clearly and thoroughly related how we can find true joy in every aspect of our walk with the Lord. I especially enjoyed the chapter on worship, because it helped me become more passionate in my expressions of worship to God.
5-0 out of 5 stars Solid, enduring Christian writing of the highest order
You can trust the writing of John Piper to convey the truths of scripture through solid Biblical interpretation, experience living the Christian life, references to historical, proven Christian writers and a comprehensive approach to discipleship.
5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for All Christians
Has it really been twenty years since John Piper first released Desiring God?I had been thinking recently about abiding in Christ and the nature of desire, as well as the upcoming Together for the Gospel conference which Piper will speak at, so I thought it would be a good time to re-read this modern-day classic.
