5-0 out of 5 stars The Hit of the Holidays
All of our friends and relatives commented on how much they liked these cards and because each one is different, we enjoyed picking just the right card for the recipients. My husband insists on creative cards each year because he's in a creative field.I'm not sure how we're going to top these next year!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXQUISITE!
I purchased these cards at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and wish I had bought at least 3 sets.Every card I put into an envelope I want to keep for myself. Each card is truly a little gift!Additionally, I am glad they say Happy Holidays because I have many friends celebrating different things this time of year.I am going to buy additional sets just to have (or give as gifts) for next year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, thoughtfully-made cards!
I love these cards and am purchasing a second set since the first set was so popular and wonderful to give away!A previous reviewer had given it only 1 star because they said the cards don't say "Merry Christmas" and has nothing about Christmas inside. The latter is not true.If anything, there is a slight Christian slanton a couple of the cards: one with baby Jesus, one with a lovely pop-up Bethlehem and star, and one stained-glass window one depicting the Virgin Mary and baby (and maybe a few more I can't think of right now).A large majority of the cards can be given away to anyone of any religion celebrating the holiday season.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy Now!
The pursuit of God has fallen from its rightful place in our priorities today. A. W. Tozer was passionate about pursuing God and about knowing Him personally, intimately, and practically! This book challenges readers to live lives that are deeply impacted by the knowledge of God! Tozer reminds us that we are expected to reflect God's holiness in our character and in our conduct!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This book covers everything you might expect: Lutheran theology, comparison of major branches of Christianity, pointers to some interesting parts of the Bible, how to handle disruptive people in church, how to behave at various church-related events, what to bring to a covered-dish dinner (do Californian Lutherans really feature Tofu in their covered dishes?), and more.
5-0 out of 5 stars Whate Everyone should know about Lutherans
As a born and bred Lutheran living in the Southeast (where you drive by 15 "other" denominational churches before finding the closest Lutheran church) I find this book to be a necessity for people who ask the question, "Just what is a Lutheran anyway?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-Opening
This is the best commentary, for lack of a better term, on the 23rd Psalm you will find anywhere. This is not a typical commentary in that it discusses this doctrine and that doctrine, providing scripture proofs, presenting arguments, etc.. Rather it is an instruction book about sheep, shepherds, and the work of a shepherd, and when you understand that, the 23rd Psalm comes alive like never before. This will also give more meaning to many of the teachings of Jesus.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Good look at the Good Shepherd
Phillip Keller worked for eight years as a sheep owner and sheep rancher. In addition to that, he served as the lay pastor (shepherd) of a community church, spending time feeding and leading that flock of people for several months. Consequently, Phillip Keller is intimately acquainted through first hand experience with the life of a shepherd. This personal experience in shepherding manifests itself in his tremendous insights into the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep. This book definitely gave me an increased understanding of a Shepherd's work. This book gave me an even greater appreciation for my Shepherd and it encouraged me to an even greater faith in God's wisdom and ways. I highly recommend this book.

Editorial Review

In order to call themselves good Christians, many people have drawn overly flexible boundaries (unwilling to say no, always accommodating others' needs) or overly rigid boundaries (to the point of being righteous and judgmental). Psychologists and inspirational speakers Cloud and Townsend show readers how to set reasonable boundaries in order to follow the true path of Christianity. This book has become immensely popular, most likely because it makes personal boundaries easier to define and is filled with spiritual purpose. Some cautions: the format can be overly self-helpish for such a complex discussion and the authors at one point imply that judicious spankings may be an acceptable form of setting boundaries with children. However, many Christians will probably find themselves grateful for this biblical context of boundaries. Read more

Miniature edition. Not until you get to the book size at the bottom of the page is there any indication that this IS NOT the complete Boundaries book.Yes, I'm angry--I didn't get what I ordered!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Total Farce
When I ordered this book I was led to believe it was based on the science of mental health. What I found was that it was a book on Christian values, Bible verses, and virtual preaching. Instead of sound psychological protocol I was given Bible classes. I am not anti-Christian, or anti-religion, but I don't expect to buy a book on psychology only to find it is about two men's religious values. I returned this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Brevity is its greatest virtue
A simplistic and self-serving rant?A paean to Theory X?Or was the author just a little cranky that evening? One thing it is not is a work worthy of the "timeless classic of motivational literature" tag that has been applied to it.It is not the first nor last time that passion will be mistaken for profundity. The author's Apologia in this edition starts with "This literary trifle...", he need have gone no further.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Clarion call to a slumbering church to be faithful ambassadors of Christ
John Piper opens this book with these words, "The Bible says, 'You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).' I have written this book to help you taste those words as sweet instead of bitter or boring." Piper's book is a call to impassioned discipleship for Christ and His Gospel. It is a summons to a slumbering church and to half-hearted disciples to wake up, and savor the joy of our salvation, and live life with an eternal perspective. As faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, we must recognize that we must eschew the worldly desires, and exemplify Romans 12:2.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great read, challenging and encouraging at the same time!
If Green Bay Packer coach Vince Lombardi were alive today writing a book as a follower of Christ, this would be it.Lombardi was a demanding coach who not only trained his athletes for success on the gridiron, but in life as well.Piper expects nothing less than greatness from his readers - and greatness defined not by the world's standards, but by the transcendent principles that truly give this life meaning and purpose.Piper is equally challenging and encouraging - a great mix that makes the book enjoyable to read while at the same time hitting you over the head with a 2 x 4 (in love, of course)!
5-0 out of 5 stars WARNING - This book will change your life!
We selected this book for our college and career small group study based on having heard good things about John Piper.I've read dozens of "Christian Living" books from numerous authors, but this one is one of the best. It's both easy to read yet deep and intellectual. It will show you the fallacies in our thinking that we have swallowed and point you back to Biblical thought process.Highly recommended for any age - new Believer or ancient Saint. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Any Book With A Tartan Cover Can't Be Bad...
Advice of both the common sense variety and the kind based on bitter experience is offered here in this pocket-sized volume. Non-controversial, cutesy-but-true helpful hints make up the bulk of its alleged 511 suggestions.

This little book is just full of those positive affirmations people keep telling you to tell yourself to improve your own life. I picked out several new sayings that I really loved and I also noticed several old sayings that I have always cherished. 5-0 out of 5 stars Father to Son to.......
I gave this book to my husband to give to our older son.
5-0 out of 5 stars a new father's best gift
I am 26 and I just became a father. I still feel like a kid myself. Someone gave me this book for a birthday present.I read it to see if these were letters I would send my son. They are not really letters but more like essays or thoughts. This man says so many things I wish I could say.He helps me understand what is important in my life, what is important to teach my boy when he gets old enough.I don't always agree with Kent Nerburn's thinking. But I think he is very wise.I wish my dad was like him.I hope I can be a dad like him.He knows what is important in life.He doesn't just preach or lecture. He unfolds his thinking with stories from his own life.Sometimes he made mistakes and he tells us.He learned. Now he is teaching me so I can teach my son.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This book is nice, sweet, and somewhat insightful. But I wanted a book that spoke more of the relationship between a father and a son. The vast majority of essays/chapters in this book could have been written by anyone for anyone. For example, Nerburn warns of the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and extols the virtues of giving. But those lessons could have been taught by a mother to her daughter, a priest to a parishioner, or an uncle to a nephew. Many other essays in the book are similar in that they contain no unique perspective on the father-son relationship. (What does the "Power of Art" have to do with fatherhood?)This book reads like Chicken Soup for the Soul. In my opinion, the other reviews overrate this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Women's Lives, Women's Legacies - a radiant guidebook
I'm a woman who's been blessed with a long and varied life. I've always wanted to share my experiences with my nieces, and to offer them my hard-earned wisdom so that they might move into womanhood a little better informed than I was. I've also had an inner desire to be seen and valued by them. 5-0 out of 5 stars Women's Lives, Women's Legacies - Bravo
Women's Lives, Women's Legacies is a powerful tool to jump-start your own story and to share it with others.I found it thought provocing - answering questions about oneself, one's history, and future a wonderful communication tool.I enjoyed thinking about my naming process, secrets, values, and spirituality. The format of the book could be used in ways most suited to how I saw my own legacy.Being newly married I answered the questions for myself and then asked my husband about himself and his family-I learned new things about both.Whether you are married or single, have children or none, you will find your place is this beautifully written soul-searching book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings forth women's wisdom
I am a writer, counselor, and teacher in my 60's, married for over 40 years, with grown children and one grandchild. So I can recommend this book especially to midlife and older women. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
By giving you an understanding of how the person with alzheimers views their world, this book helps the caregiver make life a little easier, happier, and more meaningful. It also reduces the stress and frustration of the caregiver because you gain knowledge of how to handle situations that before were a struggle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for anyone touched by dementia
Jolene Brackey spoke at the nursing home where I work with patients with dementia. She is an incredible speaker and author. This book has so many wonderful ideas for nursing home workers and people who have loved ones with dementia. It is very reader-friendly and easy to understand. Jolene includes many real life examples to illustrate her ideas. She has a sense of humor and a sense of compassion that radiates with every chapter. I've used her ideas and had amazing success in my job. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to appreciate people with dementia. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Let's do the time warp again!
What a wonderful, nostalgic look at Christmases past.I was surprised to learn that some gifts and traditions came into being 20 years before I was born (1954), and because I lived in Germany until first grade, there were some toys, decorations and treats I never knew existed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful nostalgic book!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure Trove of God's word
This book sits right on my desk and I reach for it to provide much encouragement and timely motivation. The words within are indeed "more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb." (Psalm 19:10) 4-0 out of 5 stars God's Words are Powerful Tools of Change
Although I do not consider myself a "true" Christian in that sense, reading this book filled me at once with thankfulness, inspiration, and fulfillment of God.Various biblical quotes are convenientlycategorized for you, from subjects such as Faith to Forgiveness.Eachheading has at least a page of quotes to bring you closer to God's meaningand intentions for those subjects. At such a modest price, I suggest youkeep one book tucked away for personal guidance and buy another one for afriend who needs spiritual lifting. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars From the Author of THE LITTLE PRINCE
This is a very tiny book of excerpts from the writings of Antoine de Saint-Exupery, who wrote THE LITTLE PRINCEbut also much more. The book is a great gift item. You wish it were much longer and that the quotations were cited, so that you know where to go to read the context. Beautifully produced and bound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for all adults.
This is a must read for all adults. There are so many explanations about emotions and the meaning of love and respect for other humans. After all, we are a disgusting species considering what we do to each other and what we do to ourselves.I am a better man for reading the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible!
This book was given to me when my husband passed away.I read it and was comforted. However, it was not until I re-read it a year later, that I really understood it! Needless to say, i ordered several copies for my sons and friends who have lost partners. This book made me realize that it was ok to "be a broken shell".

5-0 out of 5 stars A unique way to express compassion
There are few books or cards that adequately express compassion to people who have endured or are experiencing tragic loss. This small, beautiful book offers genuine words that express the honesty of heartbreak as well as the hope of healing.I received it as a gift when a loved one died suddenly, and I have purchased several for friends who are struggling with grief. This book would also be appropriate for someone who has any type of loss, such as shattered hopes or expectations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book to be shared!
When I wanted to share this wonderful little book with the women from my church I put together a program. I found about 20 pictures of the sea that I have taken and the same number of shells ( some broken ) I presented it like the books of our chilhood. As I read the book out loud I would, on occassion, say "pass" and they would pass the picture and the shell to the person next to them. That way they were able to visit the sea and feel the book as well as hear it.Read more
