5-0 out of 5 stars Wow you have to read this!!!
Reading this book has changed the way I have looked, felt and believed in life. I couldn't put it down, and everyday I keep thinking about it. I have shared with others the aw inspiring inspiration I have received. I am not one to read a lot of spiritual books or self help books. I have read a few but this one definitely surpasses any book I have read in a very long time. I am blown away. And it has made me take stock of my own life and my beliefs and it has shifted. I started thinking about whom in my life do I need to forgive. I truly recommend this book to everyone! We all need it especially now with what is going on in the world today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-changing story
I could not put this book down.I've read several other books on the Rwandan genocide and I really appreciate this one the most for breaking down a complex political situation/history into one that is easy to understand for all readers, not to mention one of the most emotionally touching books I've ever read. This book has changed my perspective on life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've read all year!
I love to read, mostly spiritual self-help books, and a few biographies. I would say I read about 2 books a month on average, sometimes more. Any way I simply could not put this book down. I felt as if I was experiencing everything she was experiencing, and I could not help but admire her faith in God. She reminded me how good God is, and how he can do the impossible if we just trust him. I plan to give the book to a couple people as Christmas presents this year, so that they can truly embrace how blessed they are. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Practice of Prayer"
This book is one of, if not the, best contemporary books on prayer, well suited to the ordinary Christian like me.While most other great books on prayer teach you the kinds, disciple and practice of prayer, "Prayer" by Philip Yancey talks about what prayer IS.As part one of the book states, prayer is essentially "keeping company with God".
5-0 out of 5 stars Balanced
I am a person who has greatly benefited from prayer after major injuries from an accident. Each day I live in the balance of acknowledging the miracles God did through the many prayers of my family and friends, yet living with the limitations/pain my injuries continue to force on me. I found this book to be nicely balanced between those two.
4-0 out of 5 stars Tough topic
Mr. Yancey tackles one of the more difficult aspects of Christianity and deals with many of most common questions and concerns about prayer. He assures us, several times, that we simply don't have all the answers, but he bases his beliefs on what Christ did and said. All his discussions are supported by Biblical texts. The material is challenging, however, he breaks it up with stories and quotes from many people working through the same enormous issues: why was that prayer answered, and that one not? for example. The book is also organized and chapters titled such that you can reread sections as life situations warrant. In the end, it is simply encouraging. There's no formula, no perfect prayer, no checklist. At a recent talk, Mr. Yancey was asked how we know if we're doing it right. His answer will stick with me: if you're praying, you're doing it right.Combined with his encouragement to keep on keeping on, this book on prayer should be inspiring to all. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars "A bit shallow compared to other books on prayer..."
I can't add much to previous reviews except to say that if you're looking for a solid, detailed instruction on how to pray effectively, this may not be it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Worst interpretation ever
I read this book years ago.My first impression was, "this seems like a lot to pull from such a small passage."I really felt that there was something wrong with it. A few months later, I read a textbook on Biblical Interpretation, and suddenly I could articulate what bothered me so much about this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars There needs to be a Zero star rating for books like this
I wonder what Bruce Wilkinson was thinking when he wrote this book. There is no way a top-notch theologian could squeeze 96 pages out of one verse and keep it focused solely on Scripture. Well, Wilkinson wrote that much, but he threw in so many examples from life that it totally took away the meaning of the verse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a wonderful book
I have found myself in some difficult situations in the past year. This book is wonderful and I use it as a tool to focus my life more toward God. I feel so much better after reading it. I completely reccomend it for those who need that spirituality in their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars I found what I was seeking
I am a newly practicing Christian, having found myself at a low point in my life.I was looking for guidance on delving deeper into a relationship with God and this book has given me new life.It is a remarkable book on how to deepen, strenghten, and improve your connection to God.I would highly recommend it.I take my time reading the chapters and slowly read the prayers. After praying along with the book, I am closer to God and I include my own "conversations" (prayers) :)

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME & POWERFUL "watching your soul-USInG THE SWORD of the SPIRIT"
The Scriptures tell us to keep watch over our souls, but most of us women are so used to caretaking for others, even in our prayers that we forget to even pray over ourselves! (to pray HIS WORD daily for others check out "ALPHABET PRAYERS the Power of Praying Scripture into the Hearts You Love").
5-0 out of 5 stars Praying God's Word
This is an excellent source for a prayer group. Our church has been using it and we are learning alot from the way it was written. It is a wonderful book and I would recomment it to a group or a single reader. CB

5-0 out of 5 stars Praying God's Word:Breaking Free from Spiritual Strongholds
This book may become a Christian classic. The subject matter is drawn from two of Beth Moore's Bible studies, Breaking Free and Living Free, which would be advantageous but not necessary to complete before beginning Praying God's Word.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and Honest
I bought this book on a whim after seeing it in our youth minister's office. I knew my prayer life was fizzling, largely due to the non-stop speed of my schedule, so I stuck it in my purse to read... on the go. What I really appreciated about this book is that it's not filled with pious, over-used Christian catch phrases and fluffy, vague proclamations of reverence. Hybels works within the realm of God's reality. Furthermore, while I never think God should be reduced to formulas, the practical structure Hybels suggests is so helpful in nurturing a relationship with the one who keeps Jupiter spinning. At a few points he suggests writing out prayers, which I found works extremely well for me as this is how I best express myself. I resent the fact that some may disregard the value of this book because of it's "simplicity." I believe it is practical and to the point, something everyday people can work with. And I don't remember religious scholarship ever being a requirement to come before God, where we are only children.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent beginner resource
We used this as a church-wide study. Most folks loved it.It's really a great resource for folks who do not have much of an understanding of prayer than asking God for what I want.I found it perfect for that kind of person. It's not heavy on the psychology or complexity of prayer, but gives an excellent introduction into prayers of silence and listening.Great for a broad audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Men! This book has Enriched Mt Life!
Wow, I don't know where to begin. I'm in the middle of a marriage crisis as I'm writing this. My wife has left our home and I was needing some answers. This book has taught me how to connect with God and learn about my marriage and my wife as well as the giving me insight into how my wife thinks and functions. The 20 chapters are incredibly informational and easy to read and understand. Guys...you've got to read this book in order to learn how to help your wife and increase your relationship. In the end, if my marriage fails, I will walk away with a wealth of knowledge about how to assure that I'll never get into this predicament in life again.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Cliches
Yuck! After the first chapter of non-stop cliches and stereotypes I stopped to check Stormie's credentials. There are none, unless selling lots of books makes your books great. If you believe that logic, keep eating the healthy food at your favorite fast food joint. With the high rate of divorce in this country, advice from an amateur is not welcome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-Opening
This is the best commentary, for lack of a better term, on the 23rd Psalm you will find anywhere. This is not a typical commentary in that it discusses this doctrine and that doctrine, providing scripture proofs, presenting arguments, etc.. Rather it is an instruction book about sheep, shepherds, and the work of a shepherd, and when you understand that, the 23rd Psalm comes alive like never before. This will also give more meaning to many of the teachings of Jesus.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Good look at the Good Shepherd
Phillip Keller worked for eight years as a sheep owner and sheep rancher. In addition to that, he served as the lay pastor (shepherd) of a community church, spending time feeding and leading that flock of people for several months. Consequently, Phillip Keller is intimately acquainted through first hand experience with the life of a shepherd. This personal experience in shepherding manifests itself in his tremendous insights into the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep. This book definitely gave me an increased understanding of a Shepherd's work. This book gave me an even greater appreciation for my Shepherd and it encouraged me to an even greater faith in God's wisdom and ways. I highly recommend this book.

This is a very powerful book on the gift of prophecy.Goll's writing has been cross-referenced with scripture throughout the book which gives creditabilty to this study. This book particularly helps those who have received the gift of prophecy giving a deeper understanding about the power of God and the purpose of visions in ministry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seeing vsInterpreting
As God has led me on an sight filled path since 2001 the difficult part has often been discerning, "What does this mean?" and "What do you want me to do?".Thankfully Christ has often carried me and kept my path in tune with His intentions despite my glaring imperfections. This and the spiritual fruit that ensues is what a relationship with God through Christ is all about.
5-0 out of 5 stars Scripture supports this book's content...
Bold statement? Perhaps--- since truth speaks for itself. In contradistinction to one review, I've seen nowhere in the bible where Cain is accused of sexual sin or of substance abuse. Any exegesis or etymological study does not support this supposition. It was the heart-attitude of Cain which was the "sin crouching at (his) door".

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive and easy read!
This book was tremendous! It is the perfect book for the believer who wants a deeper, more effective prayer life. Dutch Sheets is funny, engaging, and his book reads like a conversation over brunch! I can't say enough about this book. Do yourself a favor, buy the rest of his books because once you read this one you will be hungry for more. I did and it was WORTH it!

5-0 out of 5 stars An inspirational book on getting the most out of prayer
Michele Howe Dutch Sheets --- prolific author, international speaker, and senior pastor of Springs Harvest Fellowship in Colorado Springs, CO --- speaks his heart's desire on matters of intercession, prayer, and hope for the United States. Sheets's text is heavy on the biblical how-tos of effective prayer in matters both personal and governmental. He details in each of his 14 chapters the step-by-step mental, emotional and spiritual stances Christians must take for their petitions to make a significant difference in today's world and in light of eternity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Capturing the Spirit
It is so important to know that we are not alone when we are in crisis. Kimberly Winston has captured the vision and the goal of the Prayers & Squares ministry. The idea that there is a tangible form of prayer with a quilt as the vehicle has touched a nerve across the nation. We are connected to the quilt recipient and to God by the knots we tie and the prayers we say as a community of faith. Kimberly powerfully describes both how it is done and how lives are changed when that person is covered in prayer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its subtitle should be "THE Guide to the Prayer Quilt Ministry"
At a recent appearance, Kimberly Winston joked that she took on writing this book because she is not in any position to turn down work. A religion reporter for her newspaper, she had grown a tad jaded about faith, especially her own. As she worked on this project, however, she found her edginess waning and her comfort with being a spiritual person returning. One might surmise some prayers were answered.
5-0 out of 5 stars Prayers and Squares
I was pleased to find out about this book from an Orlando Sentinel review. The book shows how women (and some men) use their crafting efforts to benefit others. They take their quilting, knitting, beading and combine them with prayer or in some way make them an expression of their faith.

5-0 out of 5 stars 60-70% water we are
Given Mr. Emoto's spectacular photographic evidence and the power of his own personal convictions - the mere act of reading his book and looking at his pictures makes the reader a better person. One might think that the effect would begin to become less exciting, but it never seems to. The inclusion of his grandchild and kitten is, as always, irresistible. I found the reports from praying adults about how they are most comfortable especially interesting. Meanwhile, the local water, despite alleged benefits of our water treatment facilities, leaves us with highly polluted water anyhow. So, we've been labeling our water and ourselves with the word "love" and conducting our own experiments with the water that we use - including bottled water and wash water. Just imagine if we can actually love ourselves to a 60-70% capacity! If enough people do this - and then love our neighbors too - even our politicians (whether we favor them politically or not) - we COULD change the world - we CAN change it - little by little. First a couple of people, then more, then more - finally the 100th monkey, so to speak. What's to lose?Let's try.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection ofWater Crystal Images
This is a beautiful and lovingly done collection of Emoto's water crystal photos. Most of the pages are simply a large color picture with a brief description of the circumstances of the image. The focus is on positive and vibrant images (the result of water molecules taking on and reflecting the vibrations of events, symbols, printed words, pictures and sounds) with only very few showing the contrast of ugly aborted crystals. I'm pretty excited and blown away by the implication of all this. Many of these pictures seem sublimely profound and magical in their expression. Sometimes I wonder if its too good to be true, but it is beautiful and life changing none the less.
